Each week during Loot the Universe, Borderlands 3's planets will take turns becoming a bastion of better drops, with specific types of Legendary loot having increased chances of dropping in one of that planet's zones. And of course, you'll get to keep all the bonus Legendary loot you find during these mini-events! Just like last year, each planet's affected zones have their own dedicated Legendary weapon type (Pistol, Shotgun, SMG, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, or Heavy), and may also have increased chances for Legendary gear types (Class Mods, Artifacts, Shields, or Grenade Mods). It'll be up to the community to discover which kinds of Legendary loot drops where, so mark your calendars: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36934327/3d782b5c25a024d8ac0128cd32c31b853d261de2.png Week 1 (9:00 AM PT August 12 to 8:59 AM PT August 19) - Pandora Week 2 (9:00 AM PT August 19 to 8:59 AM PT August 26) - Promethea Week 3 (9:00 AM PT August 26 to 8:59 AM PT September 2) - Eden-6 Week 4 (9:00 AM PT September 2 to 8:59 AM PT September 9) - NekrotafeyoCELEBRATING TWO YEARS OF MAYHEM!Aug 13, 2021 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36934327/68888530aa15fb46c1a69f5a1fa56bce0567f925.jpg Two years since launch and Borderlands 3 is still going strong, all thanks to you—the Borderlands community. There's a ton of exciting stuff coming your way in the Crossplay Update, which goes live as a free addition for Borderlands 3 players today, June 24! Here's everything you need to know about what's in it, including crossplay functionality for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Mac, Stadia, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the return of the Cartels seasonal event, endless seasonal events, a new level cap increase, and the finale for the True Trials mini-events! CROSSPLAY Starting today, June 24, we’re excited to bring crossplay to Borderlands 3 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Mac, Stadia, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. There has never been a better time for you and your friends to experience the shooting and looting mayhem together. Crossplay between the aforementioned platforms is made possible by SHiFT Matchmaking, and you'll be greeted by an opt-in window when the Crossplay Update is live. Regardless of whether you choose to enable or disable Crossplay, you'll be prompted to set a Crossplay Display Name, which is required for SHiFT Matchmaking functionality. Your Crossplay Display Name must meet the following requirements: Must be a unique name not already in use by another Borderlands 3 player Must be between 3-16 characters long Must start with a letter, and is limited to a-z, A-Z, 0-9, or non-consecutive underscore, hyphen, or period/full-stop characters You can change your display name on your personal account page on the SHiFT website, or in Borderlands 3 via the Social menu option from the main menu or pause menu. Simply click Social, switch to the SHiFT tab, and change your Crossplay Display Name in the Account Details section. THE REVENGENCE OF REVENGE OF THE CARTELS The fan-favorite seasonal event is back! Bring the fight into round two against Joey Ultraviolet and his gangs of underlings, tearing apart their scenic Villa Ultraviolet mansion in the process. Starting today, your Saurian pal Maurice aboard Sanctuary III will recruit you for another dose of revenge on the brutes who broke his arm (again)! If you played the Revenge of the Cartels event in 2020, The Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels works just the same. Maurice will ask you to eliminate Cartel Operative enemies, who can be found in areas from the base game and campaign add-ons alike; they're easy to spot because they wear bright neon duds like the '80s never ended. Slaying an Operative activates a dead-man's switch that'll warp in some Cartel Thugs looking to avenge their blasted buddy. Once you've dispatched enough Cartel Thugs and collected Hideout Coordinates from their corpses, Maurice can open up a portal to the main event: a raucous showdown at Villa Ultraviolet against the Eridium Cartel kingpin himself, Joey Ultraviolet. The Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels features a new...WEEK 6 - TRUE TRIAL OF SUPREMACYJun 17, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsWe're in Week 6 of the event and the True Trial of Supremacy is here! In a tweet sent this afternoon, Pitchford said that while a Borderlands 3 update had been prepared for release "that includes full crossplay support across all platforms", PlayStation will ultimately not be included. Pitchford did not detail why, upon submitting the patch for certification, Gearbox was then forced to remove crossplay by the game's publisher 2K. Did Sony suddenly decide to take issue with the game's long-promised crossplay becoming a reality? Or did Gearbox and/or 2K decide not to play by Sony's rules? Pitchford has so far chosen not to elaborate. Read more WEEK 2 - TRUE TRIAL OF CUNNINGMay 22, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsDo you have the build to outsmart the True Trial of Cunning? REVENGE OF THE CARTELS RETURNS JUNE 24!May 12, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsYou've taken on all kinds of challenges in your time, Vault Hunter, but do you have the skills and end-game gear to beat the Guardians' True Trials? During the True Trials, a six-week series of limited-time mini-events, the final boss in one of the Proving Ground Trials encounter will receive massive buffs to their damage and health. We're talking health totals in the billions, akin to Hemovorous the Invincible, the raid boss introduced in Director's Cut. All these challenges lead up to the return of the fan-favorite Revenge of the Cartels seasonal event, which goes live on June 24! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36934327/913b8f1e0b9671f472958e40927c56bc4e40ca6f.jpg For the next six weeks, one Proving Grounds Trial per week will be selected to become a True Trial, and only the most elite Vault Hunters should even think about taking it on. Without a top-tier build and loot, it's going to get rough in there—so newer players may want to avoid whichever Proving Grounds Trial has been selected for that week's mini-event, as the boss buffs can't be deactivated for that weekly duration. Should you prove victorious in your battle against the amped-up final boss, your reward will be two Legendary items handpicked by the Borderlands 3 development team. There are two possible pieces of loot each week, one from the base game and the other from an add-on. In addition, the chest at the end of each week's True Trial will be full of Legendaries, regardless of how quickly you completed it or how many objectives you scored! The rewards will change each week, but one will always be from the base game's loot pool, while the other will be from one of Borderlands 3's six add-ons. Note that if you don't own a particular item’s respective add-on, you'll be able to claim your hard-earned loot but won't be able to equip it until you own the add-on it comes from. A new True Trials mini-event will be activated every Thursday from May 13 to June 24. We'll update the schedule below as each week's True Trial is revealed. It's all leading up to The Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels, giving you another chance to thwart Joey Ultraviolet and his gangs of loyal goons at the lavish Villa Ultraviolet hideout. The Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels is just one of many exciting updates coming on June 24, so be sure to check back for more info as we get closer to the big day. Until then, good luck in the True Trials and try not to get absolutely flattened by those final bosses! Jack Black joins Borderlands movie cast as ClaptrapFeb 11, 2021 - EurogamerDirector Eli Roth's Borderlands movie adaptation continues to pick up the pace with today's news that yet another big name has joined the cast, this time in the form of Jack Black, who'll play the Borderlands series' irrepressible robot Claptrap. That's according to The Hollywood Reporter, which quotes Roth - who previously directed Black on the movie The House with a Clock in its Walls - as saying, "I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth. Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen". Black joins an already star-studded cast for the movie adaptation of Gearbox's much-loved comedic FPS, and will perform alongside the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Jumani star Kevin Hart, and Cate Blanchett (another The House with a Clock in its Walls alumni). Read more Borderlands movie signs up Jamie Lee CurtisFeb 8, 2021 - EurogamerGearbox's Borderlands movie continues to hoover up an improbable roster of Hollywood talent, this time with the news that Jamie Lee Curtis has officially signed on to star in a key role. A film adaptation of Gearbox's popular post-apocalyptic comedy shooter was first floated all the way back in 2015, but it wasn't until last year that the cogs started turning in earnest - with the surprise announcement that Hostel director Eli Roth would be at the helm. More unexpected still was the news, arriving last May, that Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (who starred in Roth's 2018 adaptation of The House with a Clock in its Walls) would be taking a leading role in the Borderlands movie as Lilith, described as a "siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills". Read more Borderlands 3's Viewership Has Dropped 93% in its First Two Weeks on TwitchOct 2, 2019 - GitHypGamers were thrilled back in March when Gearbox Software officially announced Borderlands 3. But a series of cryptic tweets from Gearbox's CEO, Randy Pitchford, led to us predicting the game would launch as an Epic Games Store exclusive and upset a large portion of its fan base. Sure enough, Borderlands 3's release did end up becoming an Epic exclusive that sparked outrage among PC users; but that didn't stop streamers on Twitch from playing and helping Borderlands 3 hit #1 on Twitch on its launch day with a peak of 205k concurrent viewers. Now, just two weeks after the game's release, the hype for Borderlands 3 seems to have completed died down with an average of only 8.6k concurrent viewers per hour -- a quick decline that has resulted in BL3 already dropping outside of Twitch's top 20 most watched games and a 93% decline in viewership compared to its first weekend. More recently, Pitchford tweeted that Borderlands 3 player counts were “about twice-as-high” as Borderlands 2. Yet, neither Gearbox nor Epic have revealed any real numbers regarding the actual player counts... leading to speculation that BL3 could have seen peaks around 150-200k concurrent players on the Epic Games Store. Gearbox also still has plans for Borderlands 3 to be released on Steam in April 2020 where it will likely debut in Steam's top 10 and help revive the game after its controversial start on PC. But it looks like we'll have to wait until then for any official player numbers. There’s a High Chance Borderlands 3 Could Be an Epic Games Store Exclusive (If It’s Revealed in 2 Weeks)Mar 13, 2019 - GitHyp

Yesterday, Gearbox posted a cryptic message on Twitter teasing a big announcement in just two weeks on March 28. And so far, all signs (literally) seem to be pointing to the reveal of Borderlands 3 at PAX East.

With gamers recently voicing their frustration over EA and Bioware’s troubled launch of Anthem and often citing Borderlands as a shining example of how developers should properly make a loot shooter, now is without question the perfect time for Gearbox to jump back into the spotlight.

But with most fans getting caught up in the excitement of Borderlands 3 finally being revealed, many PC gamers are beginning to worry that the game could become another Epic Games exclusive…

Something that’s highly possible, considering Gearbox teamed up with Epic at the end of 2017 to bring the physical version of Fortnite to stores for $59.99 (before the game exploded in popularity as a free-to-play battle royale).

With the last Borderlands game using Epic's Unreal Engine 3, BL3 will most likely be on UE4. And in doing so, Epic would cover the 5% royalty fee on their store that Gearbox would have to otherwise pay on Steam. This would result in a 35%/65% split in revenue on Steam compared to a very enticing 12%/88% currently being offered by Epic.

This also wouldn’t be the first time that Gearbox made an exclusive deal using the Borderlands brand. Just last December, Gearbox upset PC gamers by teasing Borderlands 2 in VR, only to then reveal it as a PlayStation VR exclusive that could eventually come to PC at some point in 2019.

Around that same time in December 2018, Gearbox's CEO, Randy Pitchford, also made multiple comments on Twitter that hinted at a potential new deal with Epic, saying, “I am excited to support the Epic Games Store” followed by, “Their leadership on this front is welcome and due.”

Pitchford's comments went mostly unnoticed, until just two days ago when a user replied to what he said back in December, resulting in a new reply from Pitchford that has also gone unnoticed and should have Steam users worried: "Who cares which store you get your games from?"

After the disappointing launches of Aliens: Colonial Marines and Battleborn, and even allegedly being scammed out of millions of dollars himself, Gearbox and their CEO are often finding themselves surrounded by controversy. And after after so many financial problems, Gearbox could now be in the position to easily be courted by Epic.

Although Pitchford’s comments seem to be very pro-Epic as of late, Borderlands 2 still ranks among Steam’s top 50-100 games, with peaks of over 10k concurrent players at times, despite being released almost 7 years ago.

Hopefully, the long tail found with Steam’s loyal player base is enough to keep it on Steam and we'll see Borderlands 3 released simultaneously on all platforms (whenever it actually launches). But with Microsoft also revealing yesterday that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming soon to Steam, Epic is surely looking to keep up their current momentum by stealing another one of Steam’s most played franchises like Borderlands.
