We're happy to announce that anyone who wants to can now host their own community server! We apologize for the delay and thank everyone for their patience, we also want to thank the community members who helped us out with the beta testing. The guide on how to host your server can be found here: https://landfall.se/tabg-dedicated-server-guide In the guide you can also find the list of words allowed for the Server names - you can also request to add words through Git. We're excited to see what you all host and make! Community Servers BETA is now on the main branch!Nov 16, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! As you may know the community servers have been tested over the last couple of weeks on the beta branch, but we need more testers so we have decided to push it to the main branch. Everything is like the former build only now you have a handy "Server List" where you can find custom servers! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32927733/88a5275654b09b6a7830db91390330acbd5fb37c.png It's still a work in progress but we hope you enjoy the community's creations :) {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32927733/634d78e87274b62c5944f35b4984f20f624795f5.png Squad and solos are back!Aug 22, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! As you have noticed the servers have been all kinds of borked since we came back, and we're doing our best to fix them. We're also working to fix the reporting feature as it won't show up for certain players. If you do have access to it and encounter cheaters we would love it if you report them, so that we can take action. In the meantime, solos and now squads will be available! We will continue to work on the servers to get them back to normal, thank you for your patience!Servers are back online! EDIT: SERVER ISSUESAug 17, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsEDIT: There is currently an issue with servers but solos seem to be working so please enjoy that while we work on fixing things. Sorry to disappoint, we will try our hardest to sort this as soon as we are able. Aaand we’re back! Hello everyone, the TABG servers are now back online! We’ve rewritten the network architecture which should help with the previous issues, we’re also utilizing more of EAC:s features for (hopefully) more safety. The report function has been re-implemented so that you can report cheaters in-game again. We’ve also decided to completely remove the leaderboards based on feedback from the community, as well as to make win-farming less of an incentive to cheat. As for community servers, they’re still in the works! But need some more testing before we roll them out, more news about that is coming soon. We know this rollout may not be perfect so let us know if you're experiencing server issues and report them to [email protected] We’re hoping these changes will help with the issues the game has been having this summer, and we’re excited to start playing again with you all!The TABG servers are taking a break!Jul 3, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! As we talked about last week in this post, the game has recently been plagued by hacker and DDoS issues. Today we’ve made the hard decision to temporarily shut down the TABG servers while we work on the issues. This won’t really change much from the current state of the game, as no one can play even when the servers are up due to the attacks and hackers. While the servers are taking a break, we will continue to work on implementing community servers and possible solutions for the DDOS issues. This isn’t a measure we take lightly. Thank you all for your patience as we deal with this, we hope to have the servers up again sometime next month (August). We will see you then, A message from the devs about the server issuesJun 26, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! If you have tried to play TABG in the past couple of weeks you may have noticed that the servers have, for the most part, been down. The servers are currently experiencing a DDOS attack and we’ve been spending a lot of time figuring out fixes together with the server providers. DDOS attacks are quite complicated to deal with and there is no quick fix, but we want you to know we are taking this very seriously. Below are some commonly asked questions about what’s going on to hopefully shine some light on what we’re doing: Are you shutting down the servers for good? No, we’re not planning on shutting down the TABG servers for good any time soon. We’re working hard to get them back up and running as normal. Why don’t you get better DDOS protection? As mentioned earlier there is no quick fix for DDOS issues. We’re looking into a couple of options but it seems they would require a redesign of how the networking works in TABG which in turn would mean months of work, and we want to get the servers back up and running asap. When will you implement community servers? Currently dealing with the DDOS attack is taking up all of the time we could spend on making community servers. We are still planning on implementing them, especially since they may help with these issues but it will take a little longer. Will banning the DDOS attacker help? No, we’ve banned accounts that may be associated with the attack but anti-cheat does not mean that they cannot attack the servers. Why is someone doing this? We don’t know, it feels really shitty to bring down the servers like this when the community is quite small, to begin with. It’s heartbreaking and we don’t really understand why one would like to ruin things for thousands of people. Before we go we want to say a big thank you to the community members that have been helping us with information, it’s really great to see you all rally to help get the game back online. We would also like to thank you for being patient as we’re looking into these issues, we hope to have it sorted soon. Landfall Archives: 22 unreleased Landfall projects!Mar 31, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! It’s time for Landfall Day and this year we’re releasing not 1, not 4 but 23 different games and projects as its own little experience! Landfall Archives is a collection of every project Landfall and friends have worked on since 2016 that didn't make it to shelves but deserves to see the light of day. Landfall Archives is free and can be found here! For those asking: The custom TABG servers are on their way, as mentioned before no dev is actively working on TABG so the custom servers are something they work on in their free time. We hope to have more news about custom servers soon! In the meantime we hope you'll enjoy Landfall Archives! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32927733/532dc3d7c1e2e2d06e9a0bdce457c4bf04598994.jpg To celebrate Landfall Day most of our games are also 50-90% off on steam! So if there’s one you’ve been eager to play, now is the time. You can find all of our games here!New Anti-cheat!Feb 23, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! We just updated the game with a new anti-cheat, hopefully, it works well - otherwise, let us know! Late last year we were informed that EQU8 would now be exclusive to Splitgate and that they would shut down support for other games in February of 2023. We’ve been working to get an alternative up and running since. This patch also fixed one of the notorious dupe glitches! Thank you to the community members that helped us crack that one, we really appreciate you. 💗 Patch Notes: Added new anti-cheat Fixed dupe glitch News As we talked about in this post no devs are actively working on TABG anymore due to the game not being able to support its own costs. We still intend on keeping the servers up and running for as long as possible. However we have also figured out a way to set up community-run servers! Initially, we didn’t think this would be possible but in the work with the work we’ve done to change the anti-cheat, we figured out a way to do it. This means that the more tech-savvy players will have the opportunity to set up their own servers to run TABG, we hope to get it up and running in the next coming weeks. We will keep you posted on when that update will go live! And as always remember to restart steam and verify the integrity of the game files. Less than a year after going free to play, developer Landfall has announced that low player numbers mean it is "unlikely" the game will receive any further content updates... Read more.A message from the devsJan 31, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone, if you have been active in our discord or in the steam forums the following will not come as a surprise to you, but we thought it was time to put out an official post about what is going on with the game. As you know, the player numbers haven’t been great since this summer. The relaunch did not go as we would have liked it to. This is due to a lot of different factors, which we take full responsibility for. Initially, we had another studio on board to focus on the F2P aspects of the game like the in-game store so that we could spend our time creating new and exciting content. This didn’t work out and we had to remake the store ourselves causing us to not be able to add new content until a few months after the relaunch. If we would have been able to add more content and fixes early on, it’s likely that player retention would have been better. This combined with the anti-cheat issues, performance issues, and the AMD bug also affected the player count negatively. To counter the lack of players, we explored options to add bots and other features to the game to make the experience better and to retain players, but in the end, the development-sins we made in 2018 made such features very hard to implement. Essentially for the past couple of months, the game hasn’t been able to pay for its own development which in turn has led us to start working on new projects. We are unlikely to do any more content updates for TABG, however, we have no intentions of shutting down the servers any time soon. The game will still be up and running and we’ll still do the occasional upkeep for the servers and maintain the anti-cheat with updates from the anti-cheat devs. We understand that this is disappointing, it is to us as well. TABG has always been the game that was never supposed to be. It started out as an April Fools joke that we didn’t plan to update and ended up being a fiercely loved passion project for us. Thank you to the community that has stood by and advocated for this game, tested, suggested, beatboxed and crashed streams dressed as the French. More than anything you have helped us make the game into something bigger than what was meant to be. We are eternally grateful for you joining us on this wobbly journey! Anti cheat patchDec 13, 2021 - Community Announcements-Fixed issue with the anti cheat not detecting modified damage values.Small Memory Usage PatchOct 13, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsA small patch to hopefully reduce the memory usage to help run the game better with low amounts of ram. Testing out this solution to see if it solves the recent performance issues.Patch! Jarl Axe nerf, the inflatable hammer is back and Battle Pass fixes!Sep 21, 2021 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32927733/c953042f178c9f5b2688172b9b2017a10cbfeea0.jpg Hello everyone! Thank you for your patience. We are aware that there are more bugs than the ones solved in this patch, especially concerning desync issues and we thank you all for reporting them. Unfortunately, they are products of the game's networking code and would require an entire rework of the game. For now, such a big undertaking is unlikely to happen. We have also seen the requests to add the Brawl mode that was worked on in the early betas and announced by us as a F2P feature. We hoped that the F2P launch would bring in enough players to support another mode, as it has not done so, we have decided not to go forward with it. We are sorry to say that there are no current plans to add Brawl to TABG unless something significant changes. We want to be as transparent as possible about what to expect going forward and will keep you posted about TABG's future. We are sorry that we haven't been able to set expectations correctly in the past, we will do better. PATCH NOTES: Nerfed Jarl Axe damage with 30%, now takes 2 hits to kill a standard health player. Inflatable hammer readded into the item spawn pool. Fixed issue where some items were missing for players who bought the Battle Pass. Fixed a bug where changing the keybinding for playing the catchphrase didn't actually change it. Some Anti-cheat fixes. As per usual remember to restart steam and verify the integrity of the game files.Duos are back!Sep 6, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsThank you for your patience, duos are now back in TABG! Heads up that you may experience longer wait times in all modes due to this change. We currently don't have any more information about future updates, we will discuss them in the next coming weeks as development is starting back up again after the dev teams break. We're also waiting on a bigger anti-cheat update from EQU8 addressing the current issues and reports. Make sure to restart steam and verify the integrity of the game files. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32927733/1e2156c4d0ba723c5985ca740fc60da8ec2c62d7.png TABG Hotfix #3Aug 2, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsSmall TABG Hotfix #3 Fixed bug where catch phrase volume was not affected by the master volume setting. Older games like The Culling have completely died out, while the former champ, H1Z1, has been left struggling with only a small fraction of its former player base.
Fornite has been the only game capable of surpassing PUBG’s success in 2018, while other new games on Steam such as The Darwin Project and Radical Heights have all unsuccessfully debuted on Steam in a highly competitive post-PUBG market.
Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, or TABG, has overnight become the hottest new BR game on Steam by mocking the genre and being free-to-own for the first 100 hours. In its first day on Steam, TABG ranked in as the #11 most played with a peak of 20k concurrent players – a number that almost doubled Darwin and Radical’s peaks of only 12k concurrent players.
[caption id="attachment_351668" align="aligncenter" width="770"]
Totally Accurate Battlegrounds' Concurrent Players on Steam via GitHyp[/caption]
Similar to Fornite’s epic pivot from co-op base-building to competitive multiplayer, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds actually started as an April Fool’s joke in which Landfall teased as a new mode for their upcoming game, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator.
Now the real deal, TABG’s developer honestly and hilariously describes the game on Steam’s very positive store page as, “A bunch of physics-based weirdos fight it out on an island, everything is silly and possibly a bit buggy.”
Time will tell if TABG can maintain players’ interest and if new players will be willing to plunk down $5 to play next week. One key factor is that popular Twitch streamers also haven’t started playing TABG yet… so there’s a good chance that the game’s population will increase even more once news gets out and some of Twitch’s top broadcasters begin promoting TABG to all their viewers.
The original game, TABS, still doesn’t even have an official release date on Steam. Now, after the developers jokingly released a sample of the game in battle royale form -- that only took them 3 weeks to make and has already crushed their previous games' releases -- they might be reallocating their team’s time to focus more on TABG ASAP.
