Resident Evil 2 / Biohazard RE2 "1-Shot Demo"

Impressive new VR mod brings first-person, motion controlled gameplay to Resident Evil 2 RemakeNov 7, 2021 - EurogamerAfter more than two years of tinkering with the RE Engine, master modder Praydog is close to releasing a VR mod for the Resident Evil 2 remake that boasts motion controller support and the ability to play through the game in either third or first-person. While this mod is yet to be released to the general public, myself and a handful of other VR fans have been given access to an incredibly impressive early build, which you can see in action in this week's episode of VR Corner. Rather than playing through Leon's campaign, which has been featured heavily in other videos about this mod, I've decided to slip into Claire Redfield's signature red leather jacket for this Let's Play in order to show off a fresh perspective. In it, I make my way through the Gas Station and Raccoon City Police Department portions of Claire's chapter using the mod's first-person mode for added immersion. It promises to be a busy one - debuting footage from the likes of The Witcher Season 2 and Cuphead - but first there's a look at the opening three minutes of the streaming service's CGI Resident Evil series ahead of its release in July. Known as Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, this animated adaption takes place several years after the events of Resident Evil 4, with Leon S. Kennedy once again serving as the US president's bodyguard - which would probably seem like a walk in the park compared to his usual adventures if it wasn't for the threat of an imminent zombie outbreak. Claire Redfield also plays a role in Leon's latest adventure, embarking on her own investigation as (the supposedly canon) events unfold, and if you're curious to see how proceedings kick off, you can do that via the first three minutes of the show below. It's the first of a handful of themed promotions that will be taking place throughout the year. At 15 years old, Gamesplanet would be legally allowed to watch movies that feature strong threat and horror according to the BBFC - and that certainly applies to some of the games it has chosen to feature in the latest sale. The best offer of the lot is the lowest ever price we've seen for Resident Evil 3 on PC. Now, while the remake of the PS1 era survival horror didn't quite get the blood pumping as much as Resident Evil 2, it still has its moments of brilliance. At a massive 75 per cent off? We'll take that. Kennedy. The CG-animated series is set to debut on Netflix at some point in 2021, and chronicle a new adventure for the Resident Evil 2 stars. Floppy-haired Leon looks as dashing as ever in leather, while Claire wears her typical red jacket, most recently seen in last year's great Resident Evil 2 remake. It's shaping up to be a beautiful game that sees the consoles push higher-end features of the foundation RE engine for the first time, and it also sees the developer make some fascinating technical choices for both the vanilla and enhanced consoles. Meanwhile, the PC version opens up a vast array of possible settings, but based on the experience the demo delivers, the top-end experience does require some meaty hardware. So just how does the remake push the RE engine harder than before? All versions of the demo showcase a filmic per-object motion blur, each surface that is smooth enough receives screen-space reflections, and the game makes extensive use of volumetric lighting and a bokeh depth of field. We'll be looking at the final version more closely to fully confirm this, but the lavish volumetric effects look quite a lot like the frustum voxel aligned type we have seen in many games this generation, giving any and every light a chance to illuminate the fog. When all of those effects are combined together, we are looking at a highly atmospheric and smooth-looking game - and that is just the environments. Character modelling is also top-notch with realistic animations both in and out of cutscenes, and a lot of weight and physicality - from the way zombies react to the velocity of your gunfire, all the way down to the subtle animation on Leon's hair as he trudges down the dark hallways. There are other technical tricks designed to showcase the high fidelity assets: when you bring the camera on around Leon up close, the game spawns a tight shadow-casting light directly above his head, following the camera. It may not be physically correct, but it serves to highlight the lifelike details of the player model - another neat trick for the smoke and mirrors that is real-time rendering. But while Resident Evil 7’s release crushed all previous games in the series on Steam, its peak of 20k concurrent players was only good enough to rank the new game at #19 on Steam during its launch and #75 overall in 2017. Now, based on hourly player counts for the new Resident Evil 2 "1-Shot Demo," the franchise looks to finally be ready to return to its former glory as one of the biggest new game launches of 2019. Over the weekend, RE2’s demo brought in a peak of 11k players on Steam; which just about tripled RE7’s peak of 4k players for its "Beginning Hour" demo back in 2016. Prior to RE7’s successful launch, RE6 was the biggest new game in the series over the past decade with a peak of 12k players on Steam. While other games in the franchise such as 2015’s RE HD Remaster, Revelations, RE0, and RE4 HD Edition all failed to ever break 5k concurrent players. With RE2 Remake having so many already playing the demo, demand seems to be just as high as ever, and the official launch in two weeks on January 25, 2019 is on track to become the biggest launch yet in the franchise.Resident Evil 2 Remake trailer shows off two fan-favourite charactersJan 14, 2019 - EurogamerLeave it out, Leon. Call it a day, Claire! We all know the true heroes of Resident Evil 2 - and now Capcom has finally let us see them in all their remastered glory. It's only Hunk and Tofu! Yes, Hunk - the permanently masked mercenary who has popped up throughout the series, and whose identity has always remained a mystery. Well, it turns out players have found easy workarounds - and of course the speedruns have begun. Somewhat hilariously, once you've used up your 30 minutes on one account, you can simply load the demo up on another account on your console and play all over again (we've verified this works with our own tests on PlayStation 4). You can do this as many times as you're willing to create accounts across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam. PC players have come up with ways to reset the demo timer, but these involve tinkering with Steam itself, which you may not feel comfortable doing. If this happens, please select the "Recommended" graphics preset. If cutscenes stutter or if your display flickers, set HDR Mode to Off. In other news, we are happy to announce that both the demo and full game supports 21:9 aspect ratio ultra wide monitors. Edit: Demo is now live worldwide: https://store.steampowered.com/app/961440/RESIDENT_EVIL_2__BIOHAZARD_RE2_1Shot_Demo/ Resident Evil 2 remake demo lasts just 30 minutes and then it's game over foreverJan 8, 2019 - EurogamerCapcom has announced a demo for the Resident Evil 2 remake - and it lasts for just 30 minutes. The "1-shot" demo, which goes live on 11th January for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, is set on a 30-minute timer. This means you've got half an hour of playtime before the demo ends - and once your 30 minutes is up, that's it. No starting again for another 30 minute shot to see if you can get further into the demo. It's a one and done job. The 30-minute 1-shot demo, which starts with rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy trying to escape from the R.P.D. station, is certainly a bold move from Capcom, and I imagine it will annoy plenty of people who are hungry to play more. But it'll get tongues wagging, and it'll be interesting to see videos of playthroughs to see how far players get with their one and only stab at the game. Read more…
