The publisher has now confirmed that WildStar's servers will be going offline permanently on November 28th. "At launch, the Carbine team delivered a deep, engaging, and spectacularly fun game full of outlandish adventures on the most legendary planet in the universe," a new post on the WildStar website explained, "And it has been our great privilege to share those adventures with all of you over the last four years... Unfortunately, as you may have heard, those adventures are coming to an end. It's never easy to say goodbye to something, especially something that has meant so much for so many - but the WildStar game service will close on November 28, 2018." Despite WildStar's looming demise, NCSoft says it plans "to do everything we can to honor the WildStar community" prior to servers shutting down. As confirmed when news of Carbine's closure broke, that will include offering refunds on all real money purchases made since July 1st this year, and on prepaid Signature Memberships that run past September 26th. In an attempt to recognize your dedication and love for WildStar and for those of you who have come to call Nexus your home, here are our plans from now until the servers close: Refunding Recent Purchases All real money purchases have been disabled on the website and in-game store. Refunds for the purchases will be processed by October 3, 2018. Real money purchases (including Protobucks, C.R.E.D.D., and Signature) made since July 1, 2018 will be refunded, and we will also process refunds for prepaid Signature Memberships that still have time remaining past September 26, 2018. C.R.E.D.D. that remains unused and where the account holder has been active within the last 90 days will have their C.R.E.D.D. converted into equivalent NCoin for each unit. C.R.E.D.D. that has been used to redeem Signature and where remaining active days extends beyond September 26, 2018 will be reimbursed in NCoin for each day remaining on a prorated basis. Steam purchases have been disabled, and all purchases made on or after July 1, 2018 will be reimbursed in full. Steam users who made purchases through Steam using funds from their Steam Wallet will have the funds returned to their Wallet. Steam users who used other payment methods will be issued refunds to their original payment method. If there are any issues, please contact the Steam Support team. If you have any questions regarding refunds, or if your qualifying recent purchase was made with a non-refundable payment method, please read through our Sunset FAQ before contacting Customer Support. Final Update The final update to the game was released today, which introduced a few changes aimed at ensuring you can enjoy everything WildStar has to offer. Any Protobucks you have will be converted to Omnibits at a 1:1 conversion. Omnibit drops are being increased. The Omnibit cap has been raised substantially. All in-game store items will be purchasable with Omnibits. All seasonal store items and rotating costumes/mounts will be available on the store. All Signature Station items will be available on the regular store...WildStar developer Carbine Studios is shutting downSep 7, 2018 - EurogamerNCSoft has confirmed reports that it's shutting down WildStar developer Carbine Studios, and that support for the sci-fi MMO will come to an end. In a statement provided to Kotaku, NCSoft said that it was closing Carbine Studios, as of September 7th, and that it was beginning the process of winding down WildStar in order to "ultimately shutter the game". The publisher noted that it was still identifying the teams that would be responsible for bringing WildStar to a close. "These decisions are very difficult to make", it said, "and we are in the midst of shifting as many of our teammates as possible into other roles within the organization." NCSoft also confirmed that it would be refunding any purchases that WildStar players have made between July 1st this year and the date that the MMO's payment system is shut off. For the first time ever players will be able to join their Housing plots together to create an otherworldly neighborhood with near-limitless customization possibilities. Before you plunge head first into this rich new feature, let’s cover some of the basics that’ll put you on your path toward expert Community planning. You can think of the logistics of Community membership as similar to belonging to a guild, and your Community can be entirely independent of your guild (if you’re in one). Various ranks can be set for Community members, beginning at the top with the leader, to customize permission sets and determine who has the ability to make a number of key decisions that shape the Community. And while up to a maximum of 20 characters may belong to a Community, it’s important to note that no more than five Housing plots can be actively displayed within the collective Community plot. In addition to the five Housing plots, there’s a common area to which multiple members can contribute decorations to help tie the neighborhood together. Express yourselves! To get started with founding your Community, speak with the Protostar Community Director located in Illium and Thayd in front of each city’s Housing display. Just be sure to give some thought to naming your Community! It’ll cost 50 Platinum or 600 Service Tokens to register, so it may be worth making arrangements to split the cost among the people you’ll be inviting to be your neighbors. A character may only belong to one Community at any given time. To that end, if you’ve always dreamt of building a shared living space for your alts, and you have the funds to unlock a Community by yourself, more power to you! At its core, the Communities system is designed to be a social feature, but solo Communities are an option too. August 14–21Aug 14, 2017 - Community Announcementshttp://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/23645541/d7a1ee75946bff40dd469c2d30e046b3322de3d3.jpg The Coalition of Galactic Scientists (CoGS)—a group of scientists from both factions who believe the search for the missing Eldan is too important to let a galactic conflict get in the way—are looking to further their research into Sim-Cores. These holographic simulations left behind by the Eldan not only allow adventurers to experience simulated stories, but could offer clues as to the disappearance of the Eldan. To this end, the CoGS are offering rewards for anyone who can complete Sim-Core simulations (widely known as Adventures). By completing Adventures during Sim-Chase you’ll earn Hardlight Shards—solid pieces of data extracted from Sim-Cores—and trade them to Exchanger Krova for CoGS Sim-Cards. And CoGS Sim-Cards aren’t just for show! There are those in CoGS who need them to further their own research, and are willing to trade rare cases for them. Trader Jonjo can be found in the capital cities to trade your CoGS Sim-Cards for rare housing plot décor pieces. Of course good ol’ OmniBits can get you CoGS Sim-Cards in bundles from the In-Game Store, as well as two unique cases only available during select times of the event, which may contain a vast array of different and incredible items. What’s New The Sim-Chase begins at 10am PDT on August 14 and ends at 10am PDT on August 21. In that time, more than a few Ekose ships have crashed on the surface, leaving lots of stray Eko Particles to be collected. Eko Particles are so valuable because they can only be detected when exposed to certain types of stellar radiation, meaning they can only be found on Nexus when the planet's trinary suns align perfectly. That time frame is known among Ekose traders as the "Space Chase." Embrace the Chase Need a quick refresher on how this all works? During the Space Chase, every time you complete an Expedition that's within your level range you'll earn Eko Particles that you can trade with or sell to other players. You can then bring them to Exchanger Beno, who will exchange them for valuable Eko Chits that you can then trade with Collector Torio for exclusive spaceship housing décor items, as well as all-new rewards this time around! Want to skip the step where you complete Expeditions? Just buy Eko Chits at the In-Game Store using Protobucks or OmniBits—Collector Torio doesn't care how you got the Chits, as long as he gets his hands on them! With any in-game event, it’s important to us that your participation feels especially rewarding and relevant to the content being highlighted. One issue with the current Chase events is that a bulk of the rewards are valued housing customization pieces gated behind activities that aren’t necessarily geared toward the dedicated builders out there. To address this we’re going to be phasing out Chases and introducing a new, more fitting event to offer the décor sets and many other housing pieces previously found as Chase rewards. Embrace the Chase Before we get to the new event, we’re going to spin up each of the Chases for one last hurrah. We hope you’ll enjoy and take full advantage of the Chase finales, especially if you want to collect the rewards they offer sooner rather than later: Dungeon Chase: July 3–10 Battle Chase: July 17–24 Space Chase: July 31–August 7 Sim-Chase: August 14–21 Full details for each Chase will be posted with the launch of the event. New Event! Residential Renovation After the Chase events are indefinitely paused, in a future update we’ll be introducing Residential Renovation! Players will help housing designer and renovator extraordinaire, Sara Conavius, by completing a variety of activities to earn currency which can be traded for rewards. We’re currently planning to run this weeklong event once a month, and rotate former Dungeon, Battle, and Sim Chase rewards each time—this means rewards from each former Chase will be available on a three-month rotation. Protostar’s Gala Winterfest Extravaganza – Get caught in ...WildStar Player Count Launch Numbers from SteamJun 18, 2016 - GitHypWildStar’s first launch generated a massive amount of hype as many believed that developer Carbine Studios’ debut game could be the one true MMORPG to finally dethrone World of Warcraft. With seventeen former WoW dev team members, it seemed like WildStar could at least compete with Blizzard as the king of MMOs' playerbase declined. But just like all other big budget MMOs that came before it, WildStar burned bright for only a brief period and quickly faded out of the massive multiplayer picture soon after its release as players lost interest.
While NCSoft never released official player count data for WildStar, the sales numbers and other drastic changes such as merging servers, switching to the free-to-play model, and laying off about 40% of the studio have all been clear signs of the game struggling since its original launch in June 2014.
Now, two years later, WildStar has re-launched on Steam where we can finally see how many players come online each day via the Steam client -- giving us a much better understanding of just how big the world of Wildstar really is.
In its first week on Steam, WildStar had an average player count of 2,755 players per hour. While the game managed to crack the Top 50 games at its peak with 5,011 simultaneous players, over the course of the past week the player count has been very slightly trending down and is currently close to falling out of the Top 100 games on Steam.
