We totally get that this pricing is unconventional for Steam, and we truly accept all the criticism. Whispers in the West is more of an experiment than a commercial project. We are humbled by players’ preference to purchase all the cases at once - we truly didn’t expect this. So, we feel it's important to communicate our thought process, and we hope to deliver more value to our players in the future. The team behind this little game How the team behind Whispers in the West was formed is a story in itself. In 2021, in an already competitive job market, the hiring freeze, as a result of the pandemic, made it challenging for graduates to get started in the games industry that year. So we formed Team Dissonant - almost all the team were recent graduates - and we wanted to make our own game. Here came another challenge, we all work remotely and we had never met in person. Fortunately, we had games - we played many online multiplayer games together, as well as traditional murder mystery games over Discord. We loved murder mysteries and were surprised to find out there were very few options to play this type of games online, in particular, without the need for a game master (GM). So we decided to take on this challenge - creating an online multiplayer murder mystery game that can be shared among friends and can be played without a GM. This is not a typical "first quest" for a group of graduates - mostly for the challenges that come with multiplayer games, even experienced teams don't easily go down this path; not to mention the fact that there were so few multiplayer narrative games. The team did such an amazing job in making Whispers in the West a reality. And we are so grateful for the help we received along the way, namely, UK Games Fund and Wings. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/0adfcb6faec9728bb7ee057752fe6aba1ebf19fa.jpg The pricing of Whispers in the West The core game of Whispers in the West is priced at $4.99, which includes all the content of the free demo plus an hour-long case, The Break-in. All the subsequent cases are offered as DLCs, each priced at $6.99 - however, you can get all the DLCs in a bundle at a massively discounted price, about $25 depending on where you are, which offers 6 - 8 hours of gameplay - and your friends can join the game completely for free - a much-loved feature. If you play a case with three more friends, after the bundle discount, the cost to each player is ($6.99 - 38% bundle discount) / 4 = $1. We firmly believe games are better when shared with friends, that's why we make sure "Friends always play for free" in Whispers in the West. Whether it's the core game or the DLCs, as long as a case is owned by one of the players, other players can always join the room for free (using the demo). So, if there are two or more friends you like to play games with, the cost of each case for ea...Hot fix: We fixed an issue in the Giraffe caseJan 28, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHey, detectives! We have some important news about the Giraffe case. **A sneaky bug was tripping you up on Day 2, and we're truly sorry for the disruption!** We owe a huge thanks to the eagle-eyed players who helped us track it down. This one's entirely on us – a silly mistake on our part. But the good news is, **we've just pushed a hotfix to fix the issue** If you had to leave the case unsolved before, now's your chance to dust off your magnifying glass and give it another go. We promise, the story's definitely worth the second look. **P.S.** This fix should work for most of you, but if you're playing **offline**, you might need to hold tight for a bit. We're working on a new build just for you, and it'll be with you as soon as possible. We know how frustrating bugs can be, and we take testing seriously. We meticulously comb through every build before it hits Steam, but sometimes these little critters sneak past us. Rest assured, we're constantly learning and improving our processes to make sure your detective adventures are as smooth as possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding. And as always, if you encounter issues that impact your game experience, please do let us know in the Community Hub. Narrative or story-driven games are traditionally a single-player experience. However, with the rise of social narrative games, you don’t have to be a lone wolf any more. Social narrative games are all about experiencing a story with your friends along for the ride, often making choices about how things will play out. We wanted to share some that have been getting us excited - -TickTock A Tale for Two {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/05bf464fcfa786e04694251f987ae3ffe56bd039.jpg We’ve found that playing a puzzle game with other people in the room is an inevitable recipe for frantic gesturing at the television screen, amiable bickering, and an altogether excellent time. TickTock: A Tale For Two does a great job of accentuating this experience by providing each player with differing information and requiring their communication to succeed. It’s interested in being cosy and involved in a way that similar more party-oriented games like Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes fundamentally aren’t. It’s well worth a look. -King of the Castle {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/cef37caad4165f8b929d351f4ed52918e95c97ea.jpg King of the Castle really plays to the strengths of its medium. By casting you and your friends as monarchs and nobles, before setting you loose scheming against each other, it invites players to bring themselves into the game and build stories and jokes on its excellent foundations. It can be as crunchy as the legacy boardgame meetup you’re still struggling to schedule or as breezy as your lockdown Jackbox sessions. Best of all, it’s full of surprises. -As Dusk Falls {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/d4ebad63c34f029861952468192a1d2f4a2dc78b.jpg As Dusk Falls is an award-winning entry in the genre of “films you’re supposed to talk over”. There are tons of opportunities to argue with your friends over precisely what to do, and with a maximum of 8 people playing at once, you can get pretty raucous with it. These multiplayer cinematic adventure games feel like they’re developing in an exciting direction, and we can’t wait to see more. -Whispers In The West {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/f642ca26dc67551f7d23638be16b3c1e9149e05f.jpg Whispers In The West is our own multiplayer murder mystery game. In it, teams of up to four players investigate crimes in the Old West in real time. It’s all about splitting up whilst constantly communicating and comparing information. Where was the mayor at 10 am? Why does the butcher stammer when you ask her about her seasoning? What’s that spooky sound in the mine? And did everyone hear it? Whispers In The West is a party game that invites players to immerse themselves in the goings-on of the small town of Brimstone one 20-minute mystery at a time, in an ongoing story that plays out like a classic murder mystery television show. -Chronicles Of Crime {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/d2cc5cbb08cc7f059153048628b4530dcd9dd5b1.jpg If a traditional face-to-face social experience is more of your thing, Chronicles Of Cri...Steam Mystery Festival Wrap-upMar 14, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThe Steam Mystery Festival came to a close recently and we loved watching streams of our game. We were actually in the Wild West over the festival and thought it’d be an idea to send out postcards to those who played the game live. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/2ab860d4bc82d0bbce4c7aacf7869dbf818154c5.jpg As well as participating, we managed to sneak off to investigate some truly wonderful mystery games also taking part in the festival. Here are some of our favourites: The Case of the Golden Idol {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/e1b9d5a789478a898a70ad523369cf4fe2029f5b.jpg Something genuinely new and fresh, and with fantastic pixel art, The Case of the Golden Idol leaves the investigating firmly in your hands. Search for clues, motives and murder weapons and put them together in your notebook to solve each case. But get the wrong choices, and it’s curtains! We LOVED it. Grimfield Mystery {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/c62bf3812753a3c0fe5e5f8fe0a6421d98e9fc46.jpg Cute and beautiful on the outside, deep and macabre on the inside! Grimfield Mystery features the small village of Grimfield, where the mystery is its middle name. The protagonist Lucas goes along with the wishes of his paranormal-loving parents to check out the local forest, and a new floating hand later, Lucas goes on his adventure! A Lonely Cabin Trip {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/f363ea22460836c0e672c24f619f2f91bedcb59a.jpg When has a solo visit to an isolated island ever gone well? A Lonely Cabin Trip takes this premise and invites you on a psychological horror adventure with a genuine mystery to uncover. Have you visited before? It all looks familiar, but it shouldn’t, should it? There are different ways to solve problems with several endings too, plus it looks gorgeous! Wayward Strand {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41825657/b38dd6ffffcaf5ba70393d03a229463072fc9469.jpg This story-rich adventure left us wanting more. We have to learn about the lives of those living in an airborne hospital, explore the area and generally collect our stories for the school newspaper. Time continues for everyone, so if you don’t investigate one strand of a story, it’s gone til your next playthrough. A wonderful delight of a game. We spoke to so many players, both old and new, who played Whispers in the West during the festival and saw a lovely bump in wishlists too! Thank you to everyone who tried out our game. You can still play the demo and wishlist the game now! Come over and join our Discord: https://discord.gg/E9GvTQqvYu
