Too many games disappear entirely, with hardware becoming obsolete, games being removed from stores, or being shut down. It means we live in a constant 'now', unable to look back on history properly, never truly learning from the past. Thankfully, some games facing closure are fighting that, with indie ARPG Wayfinder returning to ensure it can continue to be played. Read the rest of the story... Welcome to the Wayfinder Echoes Update! What is The Echoes Update? When online games such as Wayfinder reach the end of their service, they tend to disappear forever. Having all played titles that have gone through this cycle, we wanted to take a different approach. We cherish the world our team has created and the characters we've introduced to our players, and we don't want them to be lost in the Gloom. Before leaving Early Access and releasing to 1.0, we'll introduce Matchmaking, a new Wayfinder, a new zone, housing expansion and many more features. The future beyond that is up to you, the player. We're incredibly excited to bring the Echoes Update to our Founders starting today! During this time, we'll be looking at bugs and feedback while we work towards a day 1 patch for new players when Wayfinder returns to Steam on June 11th 2024. Namely, when it comes back to Steam there will be no microtransactions or an always-online requirement. Airship Syndicate admits that Wayfinder has had a "rocky past" during its Steam Early Access launch, but sees this pivot as better for the game and its players, especially compared to a complete shutdown. How do we go about improving Wayfinder while keeping the game alive forever in a sustainable way? Removal of Online Requirements. Wayfinder will be removing all online requirements and will be a single-player game with optional 3-player co-op. No queues, no login, no accounts. You can choose to play solo on your Steam Deck while on the go or engage in peer-to-peer co-op with friends from your home PC. We realize this is a big shift, but a necessary one to guarantee that the game is around forever. This also means that all progress will not be carried forward due to saves being local and not on a server. This major change will be the basis for what we’re calling Wayfinder's Echoes Update. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/233f75ad88727701ce716033ab4c9170d69f094c.png One Price, not microtransactions. Removing the online requirement wasn’t our only major change. The industry has also shifted in recent years. With more and more games coming out, they’re all fighting for player’s time and attention. Players have more to play than ever, and they’re being asked to log into multiple games to check their daily quests, look at a store rotation, and be drip-fed content. Players today are more apt to outright purchase a game they know is full of content and also respectful of their time. In the Echoes Update, we’ll be charging one price—$24.99 USD during Early Access (increasing upon full release). No in-game microtransactions or in-game purchases, just one price. Founders who have already purchased the game will have access, and all the exclusive items included in each pack. Our Founder’s Packs will not be going back on sale. For anyone that supported us by purchasing in-game Runesilver, we’ve converted that Runesilver into a new in-game currency used to acquire exclusive cosmetics. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/98166ebc4bdaf31d8584b176538d58dcf17d0572.png Major Gameplay Changes. These aren’t the only changes, though. We’ve touched every major system in the game, and as a result, the gameplay is not only more refined, but through our various playtests with those outside the studio, the game performs and plays better than before. Some of these changes include all weapons becoming randomized drops with various slots, armor now having stats and being collectible, thousands of cosmetics and housing items available to collect, the removal of the grind to get new characters, eased requirements for awakening characters, increased housing item limits, adding four difficulties to choose from, incorporating traditional RPG talents into your progression, and much more. This update will also launch with the latest Wayfinder: Grendel, as well as brand-new Hunts and a new Overlands zone (three times the size of our last!) that’s overflowing with content ...Darksiders devs regain control, halt sales of online RPG WayfinderApr 8, 2024 - PCGamesNThe future didn't look too bright for Wayfinder, the online fantasy RPG game from Darksiders, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar creator Airship Syndicate, just a few months ago. Its publisher, Warframe makers Digital Extremes, announced late last year that it was closing its publishing division and, as a result, would no longer be involved with work on Wayfinder. Now, however, Airship Syndicate has regained control over its project, halted sales of the Early Access game, and recommitted to further development efforts. Read the rest of the story... Until this moment, Digital Extremes has remained the publisher of record on Steam and PlayStation. We now begin the process of transferring those responsibilities to Airship. We know Wayfinder had a rocky launch, but we still believe in the game and the world we created. When we founded Airship it was to create great games in compelling worlds, with memorable characters and adventures. With those core principles in mind, we've spent the last several months working behind the scenes, challenging some of the core ideas in Wayfinder and creating an experience that remains consistent with our standards and beliefs. We did this while keeping in mind that we want to respect our founders and excite new players - all while staying feasible as a business model for us as a new independent publisher. We plan to share these changes soon, but we aren’t quite ready. Due to these changes, we’ve turned off new sales of the game for the time being. Those who have purchased Wayfinder can still access and play as normal with no interruptions. Airship is committed to keeping Wayfinder active and vibrant. There will be major changes, and major improvements, but we have no plans for it to disappear like so many online-only games we’ve all played and loved. We think Wayfinder can be something special, and be around to play forever. Thank you so much for your support. Stay tuned to our social channels for more information in the next 4-6 weeks. Pause menu now displays the correct scaled power level. Store Bundle thumbnails will no longer show only one item on the featured page. Added a Fast Travel flyout menu, which is a list of unlocked Signal Fires to choose from. This can be accessed from any zone map. The Character Menu now has a new visual presentation, including detailed tooltips for Character Stats. Performance Added Performance and Quality modes in graphic settings for Console Shaders are now pre-loaded when the game starts. Continued performance improvements to both Skylight and The Highlands. Various improvements to how the inventory loads and replicated across servers. The character menu has been reworked resulting in improved performance through menus. The game will now default to Medium settings on first launch (this will not effect current users, only users starting the game for the first time). Wayfinders & Weapons We have introduced a new system for soft targeting which will increase responsiveness to the direction the player is inputting. This should reduce cases where nearby but off-target enemies are selected over enemies which are on-target but further away. Art of War passive now stacks properly on Warmasters, regardless of the weapon type you are using. Abilities that consume all momentum give 1, 2, or 3 stacks of Art of War depending on ability level. (Abilities that combo (like Gladiator Slice) will give 1 stack of Art of War per execution, totaling 3 stacks for a full combo.) (Wheel of Pain is special in that it drains Momentum over time, but there are two points during the drain that will trigger additional Art of War procs. If Wheel of Pain is held for its full duration, it generates a total of 3 stacks.) (For Bullet Storm and Volcano, they should now generate 1/2/3 stacks based on charges used.) (For Dual Striker abilities, they now trigger 3 stacks of Art of War.) The healing effect from Bloodsong's ability Wheel of Pain now scales with both Weapon Power and Ability Power, in-line with other weapon ability effects. Fixed an issue that caused Grim Harvest's ability Bone Geyser to scale entirely with Ability Power. It now scales evenly with both Ability Power and Weapon Power, bringing it in-line with other weapon abilities. Hellswarm’s ability Volcano has been improved.. again! First off, we’ve swapped the budgets for Resilience and Weapon Power, so Hellswarm will now have much more Weapon Power than before. (Now fires exactly 5 meteors per Locked and Loaded charge.) (Meteor damage increased by 20%.) (Meteor blast radius increased by 10%.) (Meteor drop rate increased by 150%.) (Meteor landing area reduced by ~50%. Meteors should now land in a more tightly-packed area.) Fixed a bug with Umbros where the Resilience and Weapon Power budgets were swapped. Bloodsong's ability Wheel of Pain now causes guard-broken enemies to stagger on hit. Tooth and Claw's ability Shre...Patch Preview: UI + Balance UpdatesFeb 5, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsUI Updates The Character Menu has had a facelift, and removes tabs for submenus which can be accessed via a button grid below the gear slots.Players can also navigate the stat window to see information on each stat, and how it affects their character + loadout. Mouse users can hover directly over the stats, while gamepad players can enter stat focus mode with a button. With this update, we are also experimenting in the Character Menu how tooltip style popups look and feel when navigating the menu with a mouse. We would love to hear feedback on this. Minor update to the Affinity Menu allowing Perks access through tab navigation, instead of hidden as a submenu accessed through a hotkey. Inventory Upgrades The Inventory has also had a little facelift, as phase one of a few cool updates to come. First off, grid item entries showcase a new visual style, and information display that should make it a little easier to read the rarity, power level and populated Echo Slots that a given item may contain, in the case of Accessories. Multicraft Gone are the days of spam-clicking Grey Gloomstone! Players will now experience the greatly improved crafting tech for all Imbuembents, Gloomstone, consumables and future craftables! Improved World Map Players will now have the ability to travel to any discover Signal Fire in any zone via a single button press sub-menu via the World Map. Balance Adjustments GAMEPLAY IMPROVEMENTS Defense Overhaul In this patch we’re changing the way damage reduction from Physical Defense and Magic Defense is calculated. Previously damage reduction was calculated by comparing a Wayfinder's Physical or Magical Defense to the base Weapon or Ability Power of the attack hitting them. This caused two problems. Firstly, this method meant there was not a single damage reduction percent value to show players, as the amount of damage reduction granted by Defense varied from enemy to enemy and attack to attack. Even worse, this method of calculation made damage more spikey. Low power enemies like fodder or low power attacks like multi-hits would have a lower base Weapon/Ability Power and thus percentage reduction against them would be greater. But the opposite was also true, with boss attacks and heavy strikes having drastically lower damage reduction. For these reasons, we have changed how damage reduction is calculated. Now, rather than comparing defense to the base power of an attack, defense is compared to a standard value based on the enemy's Power Level. With this system, the damage reduction percentage given in the stats page is the percentage reduction against attacks from same-level enemies. Damage reduction percentage will change slightly when fighting enemies at a higher or lower Power Level, but it will be far more consistent with this system than it was previously. WEAPON BALANCE CHANGES Hellswarm Buffs Swapped Resilience and Weapon Power stats so Hellswarm will have much more native Weapon Power Volcano now fires exactly 5 Meteors pe...Patch Preview: Performance ImprovementsJan 23, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsSubtitle: Six Major Changes to Enhance Performance and Stability It’s time to optimize! We hope players have been enjoying the first iteration of the Job Board Preview. We are actively reviewing and planning adjustments to the system based on the mountain of feedback provided by all of you. Our next patch will include quite a few job-related fixes and changes, thanks to the community’s help. As we showcased in our Q1 Roadmap, this patch will primarily focus on optimizations rather than content. We remain committed to securing the foundation of the game, and we’ve heard players loud and clear: you want better performance, fewer disconnects, and a more stable experience. The team’s big hope with this patch is that we’ve made a significant leap forward in terms of the client’s overall responsiveness and stability. Shader Precompilation: Upon startup, we will now perform shader precompilation right away, as opposed to when you encounter content. This will significantly reduce hitching, stuttering, and input lag when encountering certain abilities, enemies, and biomes. Skylight and Highlands Asset Optimization: Our tech teams have conducted numerous passes of optimization in areas like Skylight and the Highlands, reducing dense amounts of geometry and assets. A major HLOD (Hierarchical Level of Detail) pass was completed to “trim the fat” of excessive assets causing unnecessary processing burdens. Lighting Overhaul: We have overhauled the way we process lighting, reduced complexity, minimized overlapping lights, and removed shadows on light sources that were unnecessary. This has resulted in a significantly lower processor burden when rendering illuminated areas. Quality and Performance Mode Added for PS5: This highly requested console feature will allow PlayStation 5 players the ability to choose between higher graphical fidelity or an improved frame rate, achieving a near-locked 60 fps. Improvements to Asset Loading: We have increased the buffer period for asset streaming regions, which will result in significantly less hitching when traversing large areas with lots of details and players. This will have a greater impact on machines that are closer to our minimum requirements than on higher-end machines. Backend Inventory Optimizations: Our netcode has undergone significant improvements to inventory tracking in an effort to reduce server and transaction loads. This includes optimizing the amount of player data sent to the server, cutting instances of required bandwidth in half in some cases. We hope this significantly reduces disconnects for players who have logged many hours into Wayfinder and have very large inventories (long playtime history = lots of histories and logs). We have also performed a major optimization of multiplayer data infrastructure, which will reduce server load, hitches, and potential disconnects when players with excessively large inventories join a server you are on. As January comes to a close, we want to again thank all of ...Patch 0.2.3.1Jan 19, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsRemoved Runesilver toast remaining on the screen after traveling Removed Eventide info page popping up every time the player travels Added Objective marker for the job objective Arcane Brewer Added Waypoint marker for the job 'Threat Display' Added waypoint on Gloomsphere imbuement slot and location for "Mutated Expeditions" daily jobs Fixed Balgrim Sappers and Reapers not counting towards the "Balgrim Reaper" objective Fixed an issue where players were unable to accept the job 'Precise Brewer' from the Job Board Fixed an issue where Weekly Quest completion were not fully registering as being completed Removed prompt from approaching Eventide portal location Removed access to the Eventide Portal travel menu Removed Vale Shard and Winter Queen Shard Fragment from Echo Matrix Job Board Preview is LIVE! & Q1 Roadmap UpdateJan 10, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello Wayfinders and Happy New Year! The team is back and recharged from the holidays, and we are ready to introduce the next set of features into Wayfinder! We discussed at the end of last year having more meaningful updates faster, and this is the first real test of that adjusted philosophy where we are releasing content a little earlier than “done” so we can solicit feedback before fully releasing it. The goal of working alongside all of our players remains the same: Make sure things are both functioning as well as fun and rewarding. Going forward, we’ll be calling these events/features in this state “Previews.” The Job Board Preview is LIVE! The goal of the Job Board Preview is to provide players with another source of XP for the player’s Wayfinder and Weapon, as well as their Reward Tower. It’s also a place where you can get some memory fragments, gloomstone shards, dyes, cosmetics, and more! Do you find jobs fun? Do you have ideas for jobs? Did you find a bug associated with the board or the rewards? There will be a dedicated Feature Upvote Board specifically for answering these questions and posting whatever other feedback associated with the Job Board during this preview. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/ceea1ae81db684815298c7fc2bb1c5baa6f82cf1.png NOTE: As we have previously mentioned, this was the most efficient and direct path towards earning Reward Tower keys, and as such, we have also adjusted Reward Tower XP rates down slightly and will be monitoring them in the short and long term. We are excited for players to jump in today, tackle some of these jobs to help out the citizens of Skylight and share with us what you think at https://jobboardpreview.featureupvote.com/ ! Q1 Roadmap As we discussed last year, we have a big year planned for 2024. We recently updated our public facing roadmap. We also discussed a lot of these systems, as well as introduced you to faces behind the Discord names you see on our final 2023 dev stream we had last month. If you haven’t seen that yet you can view it here. While things are always subject to change since game dev is hard and always shifting, we are currently on track to deliver the following in Q1 of 2024. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/ce2ffafe456a7795bbc3f0bee91e0fbecdd03ad9.png Job Board The foundation version of this system introduces daily and weekly rewards for players. Rewards include Gloomstone Shards, Memory Fragments, Reward Tower XP and in the future; exclusive items and cosmetics! Armory Rank Armory Ranks are a new form of progression. When you level a weapon to 30, you’ll gain an armory rank. At certain ranks you can expect to gain bonuses such as base weapon stat Increases or weapon echo capacity. You can also unlock additional tempers granting more echo sockets. The max Armory Rank for now will be 20. Archetype System When implemented, the Archetype Accolade track will have you earning bonuses such as increased max equipment level, affinity points, and archetype specific passives as you pla...v0.2- Eventide is LIVE!Dec 16, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsPatch 0.2 - Eventide The team has been working tirelessly to prove to the world their capabilities and commitment to bringing Wayfinder as both Developer and Publisher. The result of that heroic effort - over 2,000 bug fixes, performance improvements, combat rebalances, Wayfinder reworks, system implementations, content enrichments, additional cosmetics and much much more. With that we say goodbye to Version 0.1 of Wayfinder, as this is indeed deserving of us moving to 0.2! Important Notes: This update is a total repackaging of all of our files and assets. Download and install may take longer than usual. When you start the game for the first time, shaders will recompile which may results in reduced performance for a minute or two before retuning to normal. The game now requires an SSD. Patch Highlights: Awakening System (Part 1) - A major implementation for late game progression for players in Wayfinder. Upon reaching maximum level, Players can collect & craft Awakening Stones to add a new echo slot, increase echo capacity, as well as buff to all of their stats on Wayfinders and Weapons. Right now the current cap is 3*. In the future we'll be expanding this system to 5* as well as implementing archetype levels and other horizontal progression for your Wayfinders and their entire archetype. Performance - We know performance has been a huge pain point for many members of our community, this is the first of many patches were we’ll directly be working on performance + optimization. This patch delivers hundreds of improvements on backend optimizations as well as client changes that have a dramatic impact on overall performance. We aren't done with improving performance, but this should be a huge leap in the right direction. Senja Rework - As the Last of the Iron Sisters and Champion of the Imperial Arena, we didn't feel as though Senja was packing the punch we envisioned. Senja players should expect some major improvements to Sejna’s mobility, durability and offensive capability! These aren't only stat adjustments, but sweeping buffs/reworks to her core kit of abilities. Event Timers on the map - No longer do you have to guess when events are happening or how long world bosses will be up! Our v1 of this system has timer markers on the map. In the future we'll be adding names as well as more info there about drops, progress etc. Rifle Subclass Reworks - The goal with this subclass rework is to incentivize creative loadout compositions, depending on the challenge Wayfinders face. Rather than have every rifle weapon essentially perform similarly asides from their weapon ability, we want each subclass to have a distinct utility to distinguish themselves. Shotguns - Significant break power and close quarter splash damage Rifles -Mid-range Low break but high broken DPS Railguns - Long range single target burst Stat Rebalance - We want player builds to be diverse and interesting, with clear benefits for investing in the full spectrum of offered stats. Specif...December Patch PreviewDec 4, 2023 - Community Announcements2023 might be winding down, but Wayfinder isn't! In fact, we're happy to announce that our largest game update ever will be hitting soon in December. This update contains over 2,000 fixes and changes to the game and brings us from v0.1 to v0.2!. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/a968d79c9c6bd2f2db626ab0dcc3c2378ef3d6ce.png We've said all along that we believe actions to speak louder than words so we hope that this shows our dedication to Wayfinder. Some of these 2,000 changes include: - Performance + UI improvements - Weapon + stats rebalance - Ability to earn cosmetics in-game - New customization options - Senja rework - Ranged rework and so much more! Today we'll preview some of those changes below. Brand new customization! ⚔️Fully Customizable Weapon Dyes 🔥Two new Wayfinder Dye Slots (including Heroic Kyros' FX!) We're speeding up Sword & Shield + Scythes' attacks! We also made changes to parry, and weapon abilities now scale 50/50 with ability & weapon power resulting in more interesting ways to build your Wayfinders. All of our ranged weapons are getting adjustments. This includes more defined subclasses; each with pros and cons and each having a unique buff when landing a perfect reload. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43315175/41a8a3b5b1cb4a071e739159c5e454adbc99a16f.jpg A trickster told us that you want more coins... Some materials are difficult to farm, so we are standardizing some drops across Lost Zones, and guaranteeing rewards from the Trickster! Multiselect + Echo display in UI Have a ton of accessories? Find selling them more painful than The Reaver King? We've revamped the sell window to display echo types as well as selling multiple items at once! XP Resonance Caches Those XP caches you've been gathering since Early Access launch are probably piling up by now. XP caches will be enabled in v0.2! So why not use them?! Character and weapon caches can fast track leveling those new Wayfinders and weapons! New Music + combat sounds 🎧 Immerse yourself in the serenity of the snow laden Highlands and Skylight. New festive music, as well as improved real-time audio feedback when in combat so you can actually hear crits, parries and more! (Shout out @Koud3x for the rad art! For those that may have missed it, this jump to v0.2 is not Season 2. We are pausing our Seasons as we go ahead and reassess our release calendar as we take over the publisher role. This doesn’t mean that content is drying up, in fact the opposite.
