It's also a game that is a bit hard to explain. It's a node-based open-world, procedurally generated RPG, with perma-death, but also not... To make it easier to decide whether or not you should buy the game: play the demo. It's a pretty unrestricted piece of the game. You can quest, adventure and explore three regions of the world that the game generates especially for you. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1095040/Unexplored_2_The_Wayfarers_Legacy/ Before playing the demo, you could read these tips: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1095040/view/3336616951943536051 Or watch one of these introductory videos that explain the basics of the game very well: Unexplored 2 is now availableMay 28, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsDear players! More than five years after the release of Unexplored, the sequel launched on Steam. Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy shares a lot of design goals with its predecessor, it has the same lead designer and same composer, but all in all, Unexplored 2 is a different beast. For starters, it's fully 3D. Characters have two eyes (which I jokingly say it's to be able to perceive the aforementioned third dimension). It's outside (mostly, but dungeons are still a big part of the game) Combat is way less important. RPG mechanics are more important. The amulet of Yendor now is the Staff of Yendor (which you carry with you all the time) (and which you have to destroy eventually) A new approach to perma-death... https://store.steampowered.com/app/1095040/Unexplored_2_The_Wayfarers_Legacy/ https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/26255/Unexplored_2_Digital_Deluxe_Edition/ Anyway, here's a video explaining it better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfa4bNJkWZE We'd like to thank you all for playing Unexplored 1 and making this super ambitious sequel first a possibility and now a reality!Rogue-lite adventure Unexplored 2 has launched in early accessJun 11, 2021 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunThe sequel to rather good rogue-like Unexplored is exiting the development dungeon and heading out into the world of early access today. Action RPG Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy continues with Unexplored's excellent generated worlds but with a new legacy system and a very, very pretty look. It's just launched in early access with plans for new quests and other content. I admit that small fellas holding up torches in front of giant doors is one of my favorite game genres so Unexplored 2 is really calling my number here. This update introduces new gameplay mechanics, new creatures, and new environments, as well as a host of other tweaks and improvements. Back us on fig.co/unexplored2 to get your name in the credits and receive instant access to the pre-alpha demo. Check out the trailer to see some of the new content: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1095040/Unexplored_2_The_Wayfarers_Legacy/ Unexplored 1 Linux & Mac We have a working build for Linux and Mac and are looking for a some time in our schedule for a proper Linux-release. For Mac: we need to investigate a little bit further since Unexplored uses a library that will stop functioning on MacOS in the not too distant future. Unexplored 1 Save Bug We're aware of a save-bug in Unexplored 1 that seems to hamper progression for a few players. So far, we have been unsuccessful in reproducing the bug, which makes it impossible to fix. If you've been hit by this particular bug, please let us know what you were doing before it occurred. That may help to solve it.Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy to explore the surface next yearJun 10, 2019 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunAnother reveal during E3’s PC Gaming Show, Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy is sequel to one of my favourite action-roguelikes of all time. The original Unexplored was purely limited to subterranean dungeons, but the sequel is expanding the action out into the wider world, and assembling adventures that span multiple generations, hence the ‘legacy’ part of the title. The sequel has a completely new look, upgrading from minimalist 2D to sharply shaded top-down 3D. It’s out next year, and developers Ludomotion are running a Fig crowdfunding campaign with a demo for backers, though it’ll still get made even if it’s not fully funded. Below, the debut trailer. We are proud to announce we are hard at work on Unexplored 2: the Wayfarer’s Legacy! The game was just revealed during the E3 PC Gaming Show, and we’re so stoked to be able to share this with you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR_CXZGECt0 And as you can see, the sequel is a big step up from the original. If you want a very early demo, or just want to follow the development closely, back us on fig: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/unexplored-2 You can also wishlist the game on Steam, here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1095040/Unexplored_2_The_Wayfarers_Legacy/ Here’s JD explaining our plans for Unexplored 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLSSmmbW6QA Unexplored 1 on Steam We would like to thank everyone who bought and played Unexplored 1. There are more of you than we could have hoped for! Having to turn our attention to Unexplored 2 means saying goodbye to its predecessor. We feel the current build of Unexplored is a solid one and provides hundreds of hours of gameplay. Yes, there is the occasional bug and a few players seem to be particular unlucky. For that we’re sorry, and we’re currently looking if it's feasible to create another update for Unexplored 1 on Steam. Unexplored started it’s adventure, here, on Steam, back in 2016 when Steam Greenlight was still a thing. The game got green-lit in less than 11 days, which was exceptionally fast. We later launched Early Access, and that move paid off. Big time. The amount and quality of feedback we received from early players proved to be invaluable. The game’s so, so much better off due to player feedback, that we never wanted to go without. That’s the main reason for going with FIG Open Access. Steam has become a bit crowded and FIG is offering a great opportunity that we wanted to seize upon. We’re proud of the Game of the Year-mentions by PC Gamer, Rock Paper Shotgun and Vice.com. But most of all we’re proud we made a game that entertained tens of thousands of people, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands (!) of hours. We hope to see you in Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/25870505/6bdcdc7fe042ac95ff3bd611dbc17b44d926ccf5.jpg Unexplored mod BOILINGHOT lets you delve at your own paceFeb 18, 2019 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunMuch as I love Ludomotion’s real-time roguelike Unexplored, I’m acutely aware that a lot of people bounced off it because it’s a lot to process all at once. Enter BOILINGHOT, a SUPERHOT-inspired mod by “YellowAfterlife” which might just help the less twitchy amongst us. As with the stylish first-person shooter, time moves at a crawl – ten percent of normal – but speeds up to the game’s usual frantic pace when you’re swinging a weapon or moving. Below, a trailer for the mod, plus some thoughts on the nature of slowdown in games as a system and accessibility aid. That's the principal behind super cool game Superhot. Vlad 'YellowAfterlife' wrote a little mod that puts that same principle into Unexplored. See it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNpEsA_0j4U You can download the mode here: https://yellowafterlife.itch.io/boiling-hot Checkout the source code here: https://github.com/YellowAfterlife/BoilingHot The mod was inspired by a little video we released a couple of days ago in which we show Unexplored at 10% of the recorded speed (here's the youtube-version): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hEFa9Zg4Xc Here's Vlad's original tweet on the mod: https://twitter.com/YellowAfterlife/status/1097209848918409217Unexplored releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in FebruaryFeb 4, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsWe're pleased to announce that Unexplored will launch on PlayStation 4 on February 19 (NA) and 20 (EU). We may not be hanging around there as much as in the beginning, but we do read your comments. The game is nearing it's second birthday, so we hope this is one of the final bug fixing updates we need to push. Game Balance Tuned down the number of Nightmare Boars. However, we've recently updated the game with a number of optimizations and bug fixes and will continue to do so. We'd like to thank everyone who posts bugs and feature requests in the forum. We do read them all, and we do really appreciate them! We're going to release the game for Linux sooner or later. The Mac-release has become somewhat uncertain due to the fact that Apple decided to get rid of OpenGL. We'll keep you posted on this.Unexplored s free Dark Ritual DLC is like playing reverse roguelike CluedoAug 1, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunUnexplored remains one of the best real-time roguelikes out there. Inspired heavily by the tactile but stat-lite Brogue, it inspired a gushing review from Adam, and was one of my Game of the Year nominees for 2017. It was great back then, and thanks to developers Ludomotion’s steady content updates, even better now. Today marks the release of the third and final major free DLC – The Dark Ritual – after a long period of beta testing. It’s an odd one, stretching the game’s story and map-generating systems into an offbeat Lovecraftian murder-mystery. This is yet another way of playing Unexplored and this time you arrive at a Cultist's mansion to stop them from summoning a Great Old One! Gather clues about the nature of the ritual, and find the right method to stop them before it is all too late. Every time you change locations, time advances, and as the clock approaches midnight, foul magics start tearing at the very fabric of reality. After installing you find The Dark Ritual in Special Runs in the menu. As always: let us know what you think in the comments! Update We've also pushed an update live which focuses on performance. The Cyclic Dungeon Generator now takes less time and the game uses less memory. This should decrease stutters and increase smoothness while playing. 10% discount on Unexplored: Unlocked Edition for Nintendo Switch As of today you can pre-order Unexplored for the Switch! Podcast: Being a critic makes games better (and worse)Apr 19, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunOh no. Somebody sound the journalists discussing journalism klaxon. Rattle it as loudly and furiously as possible, because the RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show, is talking about how being a critic changes the way we play. Don t blame us, blame listener Aleksei, who sent in the theme as a suggestion. But please also forgive Adam, because it s his last showing on the podcast (he s leaving RPS next week) so he deserves a bit of self-indulgence.
