The Last UpdateSep 26, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsSo I have been sitting on my hands thinking about posting my current thoughts on the project for a few months now which is why I have been largely silent, and its been a pretty long grind and quite honestly I don't think I'm any closer to finishing than I was a six months ago, people following the Development thread have been seeing that as a common theme since Ive had to go back to work full-time. I add polish and more bugs appear, the scale of the project is starting to wear me down, and the only thing carrying me at this point is not disappointing you all. I am thinking about my options as realistically I have been creatively stuck here for quite awhile, feeling stuck between being unable to deliver/recover the project after Mike left & money ran out, due to time constraints of only working on the game a day a week and the sheer scope of the project, and disappointing those both financially and emotionally who invested in the early access idea of the game and only received half the game we intended to deliver. I gave it my best shot to recover the project after team died. I really did, for years. So I am throwing in the towel. Ive given it a lot of thought the last few months how to proceed knowing I couldn't finish the project on any sort of decent timeline myself, and knowing I personally couldn't refund you, I have a potential solution. Two years ago I started offering free copies of my older concept games on Steam for anyone who had purchased the Under the Ocean, and while it was not what you originally wanted, it went a little way to bridging the divide that I wasn't making games just to cash in and bounce. I want to extend that for my entire lifetime. Whatever games I create in the future, for life, just email me [email protected] with your Under the Ocean receipt and I will send you a key. I'm am going to need some time to recover from this but I want to start creating small concept games again, it is why I started making games and it is how I will end it. I want to start to tackle smaller projects that I can realistically finish between working a job and being a decent father, and I hope you join me for the ride. Maybe one day Under the Ocean will live again. As I mentioned before, this IS NOT playable as of yet (or even very nice or anything yet) so this is really only for people who want to follow progress more than a complete playable game. It is going to take time to get the quality up to the standard of the previous builds. If you have any questions hit the forum link above, I it is harder for me to monitor the announcement comments than the forum. Cheers guys thanks for reading!Sad / Important news.Feb 9, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsDue to some people missing the hugely disappointing news, effective a few days ago, Mike has left the project leaving just me, I will be restarting the project from scratch, details below. I wont go over the specifics, hit the links below for the details. Important news regarding Mike leaving the project: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227720/discussions/0/604941528491274865/ In-Development builds: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227720/discussions/0/606068060818398271/ Multiplayer, and bringing things togetherDec 17, 2014 - Community Announcementshttp://oi59.tinypic.com/1692r6s.jpg It's no secret that Paul and I are struggling to get this update out, and nobody is less happy with the situation than us. By far the largest problem is the complexity of the net code. Since we started the 3D update, we transitioned across to an open world streamed world, and keeping tens of thousands of objects synced between computers, each with their own unique properties and state, has been a major challenge. The streaming world has required many months of performance optimizations, but it works decently. The multiplayer has had a similar time investment, and it's not even clear how much more time will be required. http://i61.tinypic.com/fo3vgx.jpg In the interests of getting the game out, we've decided to shelve the feature for now. It's clear that we need to hire a dedicated programmer to work on it, and that's both financially a problem, and doing so right now would delay the project even further. The hooks are staying in the code, so we can revisit it at a later date. Single computer couch multiplayer, of course, will work just as before; the game plays great on the couch with some Xbox controllers. http://i62.tinypic.com/4ux7qx.jpg We're also opening up our Trello workspace, so you can see our day to day progress, and Paul's going to write a post on what still is required with a link to the Trello ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/227720/discussions/0/619574421252940000/ Alpha 9 ProgressDec 29, 2013 - Community AnnouncementsWe are hard at work on alpha 9 for a few months now, which will introduce a whole pile of new features and changes to the game that will reshape the game from current builds with features that have been suggested by the community (multiplayer, classes, new view & new graphics, goal based gameplay, new crafting system and a whole pile of other features), details can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227720/discussions/0/846963710989952580/ and a screenshot of progress here: https://twitter.com/Farmergnome/status/411164973537042432/photo/1 Due to the scale of this update we are expecting this to take a few more months to be ready for consumption, I will be updating the alpha 9 thread in the link above with all progress as it moves forward and my twitter ( @farmergnome ) with screenshots and visual progress. After this update we will be back to our update a month schedule. Thanks for your patience guys and girls!Whats next for Under the Ocean?Jul 11, 2013 - Community AnnouncementsLots actually!
