How are you doing? I am Chyaya who made this game. As mentioned in the announcement in December last year, Tree of Life will be hidden from the Steam store for the last time on January 31, 2021 (PST). Tree of Life was sold in the Steam store for 5 years and 8 months, starting with Early Access in 2015. If you purchased the game, you can always download the game through the Steam library, even if it is hidden from the store after today. It's a cold winter here. How are you doing well? I am sorry that we stopped developing Tree of Life in March of 2019 and did not say hello often because we focused on the sequel. As the head of this project, I feel a great responsibility for the unsatisfactory part of the game service for 4 years. There are two main things I learned while making Tree of Life. The game belongs to the player Tree of Life was the first game I ever sold, and I was conceited of its little success. As a result, I arbitrarily updated the game and did not listen to community's opinions. But the game belongs to the player, neither mine nor the developer's. This is the biggest thing I've learned. We will operate the service with as much effort as making a game. We were initially a team of developers, so we lacked the know-how of running online games. We patched the game in one direction without getting all the players' opinions together. We fixed the good part of the game for improvement (We thought it was) and made it disappointing for those who like it. In the sequel, adventurers can open the server themselves, so I think you will be able to play the game in a variety of ways that love Tree of Life. In the future, we will collect community's opinions in various ways, focusing on providing new content and ways to enjoy the game. Last time, we talked with the community by revealing the plans and intentions for the sequel. I think you still have questions about my intentions, so I will try to answer the questions community often ask me. Q1. What happens to Tree of Life when the sequel is released? Tree of Life's servers will continue to be maintained. However, many people have expressed concerns about selling the game in a situation where follow-up support is not available, and I agree with it. Therefore, the game will only be sold until January 31, 2021, and the Tree of Life will be hidden from the store. If you have previously purchased the game, we will keep the server. So that you can always download and enjoy the game again through the library. Q2. Why did you create a new game without updating Tree of Life? Tree of Life was created using the In-House engine I've been making since 2012. The engines are getting older, and the game gets more and more complex over time. It took a long time to maintain the engine. So we couldn't update the game's content often enough to satisfy our players. About the Current status of Oddone games and our future planJun 23, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsHello, fellow adventurers This is Tree of Life DEVs. First of all, we would like to apologize to you for our late reply and lack of communication so far. In recent years, the company has been going through numerous obstacles and nasty stuff. Due to such a harsh and chaotic environment, we couldn't afford to try active communication with you guys. However, we always kept on eye on opinions you have given us, and we decided that it is time to tell you guys about the current status of our company. As we have mentioned, due to the various crisis triggered by unfavorable factors including COVID-19, Oddone Games is now under significant financial threats. To overcome the crisis and maintain our team, we had to get investment, and its term was to develop a new game. Developing a new game requires numerous financial and human resources, but as you might have known, Oddone Games is a small developer with less than 20 people. Under such a harsh environment, we cannot promise you to show you new updates on Tree of Life in the meantime because it would be almost impossible. Furthermore, Tree of Life has been built based on the engine we developed, and it takes a long time to fix even a very simple error. So, since most of our staff has to work on the new project, it is hard for us to handle CS quickly for the moment. It was a really cruel decision for us, too. Tree of Life is not only a game but the life work that all DEVs put their youth and passion. However, if we couldn't maintain the company and team, it would be impossible for us to keep the Tree of Life also. So we had to make a tough decision. However, we can tell you that we have never forgotten Tree of Life. Oddria, our new game is a spiritual sequel of Tree of Life which adopted many features from the original. Though for now there is Treasure Hunt mode only, but we are designing the sandbox mode that anyone who have played Tree of Life can easily enjoy! Of course, we are aware that many people will not satisfy with such measurement only. So, we set a plan to restart further update on Tree of Life as soon as the company return to self-sustaining status and expand the team to take the project. For now, we cannot promise its exact timing, but we definitely have a concrete plan about it. It is no wonder that you guys get frustrated and angry on us, and we are always sorry about it. To make up for it, we will never give up and keep up our challenge until we make Tree of Life and Oddria classic that can make you guys proud. Please trust us. Thank you
