The Free Starter Pack will give you access to the Training Center and the core feature set of Train Sim World 5 features (more on this tomorrow) that aren't tied to route-based content. This pack won’t provide you with any routes on its own, so if you’re interested in the new Train Sim World 5 content, you’ll find more value in our premium bundles that include the routes and locos we’ve covered, and you can find breakdowns within our TSW5 Bundle FAQs. However, if you already play Train Sim World on the same platform and account, you will be able to bring any compatible add-ons you already own into Train Sim World 5 and play them with the newest features. On top of being a fantastic way for new players to begin their TSW journey, this is also a good benefit to existing players. The Free Starter Pack allows you to: Access new add-ons released after the launch of Train Sim World 5, even if you have yet to purchase a core bundle. Update any previously owned compatible routes to their current remastered variants (West Somerset Railway, Cathcart Circle Line or the upcoming Great Wester Express remaster). Explore any TSW patches you have missed on your favourite routes if you weren’t on the most up-to-date version of Train Sim World. Once you claim the Free Starter Pack, it is yours to keep forever, but as an important note, this offer to claim the pack will only be available for 30 days after the launch of Train Sim World 5 and therefore will expire on the 17th October 2024, so be sure to share the word! If you have any more questions, be sure to head to our TSW5 FAQs where you can see details on the Free Starter Pack, and much more!Train Sim World 4 Roadmap: October 2023Oct 3, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThe Train Sim World Roadmap {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/356bf938944b1d7c86f1c905b60f206392567156.png TL;DR (too long; didn’t read) summary A quick summary for those who don’t want to go through the whole article. If you’re into UK rail tours, high-speed record-breaking and the nostalgia of steam locomotives, then this article is for you as we delve into the details of Flying Scotsman, LNER’s Azuma, the East Coast Main Line and the brand-new Free Roam feature! And remember... Early Access begins tomorrow if you've pre-ordered Train Sim World 4: Deluxe or Special Editions. We've created a handy "What you Need to Know" Forum Thread that covers everything about playing for the first time tomorrow. East Coast Main Line An important artery of the British rail network appears in Train Sim World 4 in the form of a stretch of the East Coast Main Line. Much-requested by players and railfans over the years, this high-speed line has history, but continues to be a crucial part of today’s contemporary railway with fast, modern rolling stock to suit. The Route: Peterborough – Doncaster {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44534860/3c5e54a82ba796693c252546dc7e77595b0574a9.jpg The stretch of this line between the cities of Peterborough and Doncaster brings a variety of services and high-speed running as well as the longest end-to-end UK route to date! Along the way, the historic Stoke Bank marks the location where the world speed record for a steam locomotive was broken in July of 1938 - 126 miles per hour (203 km/h) by the famous Mallard locomotive. Eagle-eyed railfans may see the commemorative sign flash by both in-game and in real life. As if one record wasn’t enough, it was also through this part of Lincolnshire that world-famous locomotive Flying Scotsman broke the 100mph barrier on 30 November 1934. You can read further about Flying Scotsman’s inclusion in Train Sim World 4 further down the article. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44534860/77254e3827dfdf854794f25458bb87d5f5bfa3eb.jpg Doncaster was where Flying Scotsman was built 100 years ago along with other iconic locomotive classes such as streamlined Gresley Pacifics and diesel electric Class 56s. As well as an extensive railway history, the city today hosts DB Cargo UK’s headquarters. Peterborough’s place on the East Coast Main Line came as a result of circumstance when Lord Exeter refused to allow the line to be built through nearby Stamford. The city grew as a result, industrialising much in the way other locations did once the railway had arrived on its doorstep. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44534860/3d04650493d599beeeedde3e21734b5ede4af4a0.jpg Three intermediate stations are spread between the route’s end points facilitating high speed across most of the route. These are: Grantham: The home of England’s oldest biscuit recipe, Grantham Gingerbread. First made by accident in 1740. Newark Northgate: serving Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire. Nearby is Newark Flat Crossing, the sole remaining standard gauge flat crossing on the British railway network. Retford: Where the EC...Train Sim World 4 – Virtual Vectron, German Content & Creative Tools!Sep 14, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/d34349e3359c81e627454fb93e78605744dceaf6.jpg Train Sim World 4 is coming September 26th and with it some major improvements to popular creative tools as well a whole new way to express your artistic skills... Photo Mode! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2362300/Train_Sim_World_4/ In Deluxe Edition, German railfans will also get to try out the high-tech Vectron locomotive and see our previous Dresden – Riesa route in a whole new light (literally!). New Locomotive: Railpool BR 193 Vectron (Deluxe / Special Edition only) {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/55bd1d6db306ba15d9cefa9fd114248180337eaa.jpg We start with a look at a brand-new locomotive in Train Sim World 4: the Railpool BR 193 Vectron. Coming to the Deluxe/Special edition of TSW4, this latest addition to the fleet is one of the most high-tech, modern locomotives ever to feature in our games. The first Vectron series locomotive was presented at the Wegberg-Wildenrath Test and Validation Centre in Germany back in 2010. Those familiar with our Training Center from Train Sim World 3 (also a key feature of Train Sim World 4) will know that the layout is inspired by the same test track. Following testing, running and certification over Europe took place for Romania, Poland, Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Austria, Turkey and even a trip through the Channel Tunnel in 2013. In total, variants of the Vectron series are certified to run in 20 different European nations. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/09d67d92b4fb631185f2a81e40a3976e11dbaaba.jpg Railpool’s variant of the Vectron utilises 15 kV 16.7 Hz AC power for cross-border services in Germany and Austria. In Train Sim World 4, this is represented by freight services on Vorarlberg Line where trains cross the border just short of Lindau. Further services have been implemented into the new Dresden – Riesa timetable and both routes will utilise the new EANOS Wagons. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/7c80870eab4b6a011c89e4468e0da49c468de932.jpg Operating the Vectron requires using the myriad of screens and digital switches inside the complex, modern cab. Headlights, AFB, power limiting and much more can be changed or viewed across the four screens and for flexibility the speed dials can be moved from one screen to another using the many interactable buttons and options. Updated: Nahverkehr Dresden – Riesa {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/cc51c4dd0c8a29712547b61c7327e9e652ff44c4.jpg Available for free to players who already own the route when purchasing any version of Train Sim World 4. Otherwise, available in both Deluxe & Special Editions. Hosting Railpool’s Vectron and receiving the TSW4 treatment is the popular Nahverkehr Dresden – Riesa route Add-on. This comes complete with Vectron’s new timetabled services, volumetric skies, TOD4 lighting and the full set of Train Sim World 4 features. The Meißen branch, which was originally added in the TSW2 Rush Hour update, is also included. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/6497cf59a4990f6e580cb5181cd1...Train Sim World 4 – California Dreaming & PC EditorSep 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsTrain Sim World 4 is coming September 26th and with it, the ability to dream big and play your way. In this article we introduce more about the exciting new PC Editor (beta) and cover everything you need to know about Antelope Valley Line – our latest foray into California railroading. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2362300/Train_Sim_World_4/ Antelope Valley Line {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/044a35e9a0adccdc29d8f1d55987093a973a340d.jpg Our journey through California continues with passenger services, a cab car and a powerful, streamlined locomotive. Fans of California railroading may recognise the sun-kissed setting akin to our previous Peninsula Corridor and Cajon Pass routes and in many ways Antelope Valley Line is a happy marriage between the two. The Route: Los Angeles – Lancaster {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/f99543986c40a90c7cc92eb77ff89a0ccf421824.jpg Metrolink’s railroad network accommodates commuters, visitors and locals within the wider Los Angeles area, taking these passengers out to the wider suburbs and cities throughout California. The Antelope Valley Line has origins in the late 1800s and closed to passenger and freight traffic in the 1970s before being reopened as a commuter rail service in the early 1990s. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/57d63520a67c77d092a80afb522d18255928a9cf.jpg Trains depart the impressive Los Angeles Union Station – the largest passenger terminal in the Western United States – and head in the direction of Santa Clarita to the north, before turning east toward Palmdale and north again to Lancaster. A brand-new station at Vista Canyon is opening in 2023 and this station has been implemented in-game ahead of its opening in much the same way we did with University Station in Birmingham Cross-City. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/99bc1d345907a73461c7972c1822ea31b57d078d.jpg Like Cajon Pass, from Train Sim World 3, the Antelope Valley Line depicts the changing and challenging scenery of California railroading, starting in the built-up and heavily populated city of Los Angeles, before fading into rugged terrain, desert and the twisting curves and canyons of the wider LA County. At times players may think that they are in fact operating along a freight route, but with the joy of stopping at stations (there are 13 in total) along the way as well as switching ends and heading back using the cab car. The Locomotive / Cars Metrolink EMD F125 {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/176c6a8969c752b95c1d3ca85103496666437d97.jpg Flying the flag for all-American diesel traction is Metrolink’s F125 locomotive. Unique to Metrolink (a new operator in Train Sim World), the F125 is a relatively recent addition the USA’s wide variety of diesels, being built between 2015 and 2021. Its streamlined nose reflects its need to whisk passengers between stations on the line at speeds of up to 79 mph, rather than the sharp angles seen on most freight-hauling diesel locomotives. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/e892ccafd8a341559434a44a58487e6dacca1ceb.jpg Rotem Co...Train Sim World 4 – Introducing: Austria & New FeaturesSep 1, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/52943471b9edc5da2eadc64f8482bdb391b260db.jpg Train Sim World 4 is coming September 26th and with it a slew of new features and a brand-new country! We take a deeper dive into S-Bahn Vorarlberg: Lindau – Bludenz and some of the exciting new ways you can play your way. S-Bahn Vorarlberg: Lindau - Bludenz Our expansion across the European continent continues with our first ever Austrian route. A nation known for its tasty Sachertorte, classical music and its popular national railway operator: Österreichische Bundesbahnen, or ÖBB. The Route: Lindau – Bludenz {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/b17d924f2deac768add2e721ea399ec4706f84bb.jpg Dramatic mountains, verdant countryside and plentiful towns and villages set the scene in the far west of Austria, where the borders of neighbouring Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are not too far away. The northern end of the line at Lindau sits across the border in Germany, making this route a two-nation affair with some 6 km of German rails to traverse before heading south towards Bludenz. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/95986beca573f818e859e76806468486be6e2e0f.jpg 28 stations lie along the way, making for regular stopping points through the State of Vorarlberg. The route also includes the branch line that heads in the direction of Switzerland, stopping just short of the border at Lustenau, on the banks of the Rhine River. The inclusion of the branch line and nature of the services on the main line make this route feel like a complete network, encompassing everything that’s great about railways across Central Europe and its borderlands. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/8938ce7d04ad66a3d4d7d4b00a8eafd75c73566f.jpg Austria has long been a country that we’ve wanted to explore within Train Sim World and the love doesn't stop with Vorarlberg! A little further down the line, we have another Austrian route in our TSW Roadmap, which we'll be shouting about from the rooftops when it's ready to release. The Locomotive / Unit With the introduction on a new operator to Train Sim World, comes also a new EMU, the ÖBB 4024 Talent (or the Talbot Leichter Nahverkehrs-Triebwagen). Players of our previous German content will be familiar with the Talent family of units, with Deutsche Bahn variants of the Talent 2 featuring in Train Sim World Compatible routes Rapid Transit and Nahverkehr Dresden - Riesa (the latter of which is being upgraded for Train Sim World 4). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/2ae9b0917dd84828ef32dad3d55611e21d5a937a.jpg The 4-car ÖBB Class 4024 is a previous version built between 2004 and 2008 by Bombardier. Its responsive acceleration, braking and low floor make this railcar ideal for stop-start commuter services through the many locations featured in S-Bahn Vorarlberg and its similarity to variants from across Europe exemplify its ability to work cross-border services. DB BR 185 {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/c285e6a016a4a41123006f7ac48221064fe9e10e.jpg Included in the route is the DB BR 185 offering...The Train Sim World 4 Roadmap (Part 2) - August 24thAug 31, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/ee1915861913cc876dc6e3948c65545535362755.png Ding ding ding! Matt: "Train Sim World is built using our heavily modified version of the Unreal Engine 4 Editor, all the trains you drive and the routes you drive them on are built by the team with this tool. The PC Editor we’re talking about here is exactly that, it’s a special build of the editor that works outside of our development environment but otherwise is identical and will let you create any content you like, exactly like our team does...The Train Sim World 4 Roadmap (Part 1) - August 23rdAug 23, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/92a98050176d4363c656fa727096d50c0527e196.png Our largest roadmap ever is now available! Since the release of Southeastern Highspeed, filling the Thameslink-sized gap in the passenger timetable has been something that both us at Dovetail Games and the Train Sim World community have dearly wanted to do. Being based in the heart of Medway at Chatham, these modern and complex EMUs are a familiar sight to many of us as they run along the Chatham Main Line as far south as Rainham (Kent). The Locomotive / Unit {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/7dc518c2dbad7e031b16c45635356e7b1a5f0ca6.jpg The Class 700s began to enter service as recently as 2016 and were first introduced to Medway in 2018, making them one of the most modern trains to feature in Train Sim World. As a result, the cab hosts a feast of driver aids, screens and safety features to comply with the various requirements of its routes through London and beyond. Of note are the prominent RLU labels, reminding the driver that the train is a ‘Reduced Length Unit’. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/bd2c3deb8de2db06fc4d9c695f7310cec3b08ffd.jpg In-game, many of these features can be interacted with, from the options on the driver’s screens and light toggles, to the AC / DC power, ensuring that both third rail and overhead electric power sources can be utilised on various Train Sim World routes through Scenario Planner. For the passengers, the interior of each coach is represented in a way that reflects the variation to the seating plan found throughout the train and the bright, blue PIS screens display much of the information expected from the real-life trains. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/846ca47705e0a93721096852c8c23797ae59fb62.jpg Sounds are formed from a mix of sources to recreate the rapid cascading whine of the traction motors including recordings from other Desiro EMU models, Thameslink’s driver training facility and some assistance from Armstrong Powerhouse. Other details include the light atop the train shining back at the pantograph, the occasional appearance of the ‘Check Station Screens’ option on the exterior destination display and the rigid appearance of the seats that only regular Thameslink passengers will know so well. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42779272/dc59a6fede31fb26614a588aa233a5dfadf3ad16.jpg With so much to consider when operating these complex units, a full Driver’s Manual is available to read, detailing everything you need to know about the Class 700 in-game.
