The vision was rooted in a love for both history and strategy gaming, with the aim of seamlessly mixing the best parts of grand strategy and real-time tactical battles into a single experience where you truly felt like the commander of a vast empire. During those early years Total War’s identity formed. The team were focused on authentic recreations of the most pivotal moments in human history from the Age of Antiquity through to the emergence of the great naval empires. As the genre evolved and our teams changed, we expanded into new territory by leaping into the fantastical; meticulously recreating Games Workshop’s iconic Warhammer World as a truly unique strategy experience. There have been triumphs and tribulations throughout the years, and we’re honoured and humbled to be one of the few video game franchises that get the chance to celebrate such a huge milestone. Our teams are hard at work fine tuning a program of content that not only shines a light on past games but builds the foundation for us to begin revealing what we have planned for the future of Total War. And yes, this means the reveal of new games and content. 25 years of Total War will begin with a look back at our legacy. Taking place from August until the end of November, we’ll journey through each series that has been released since 2000. Expect content like retrospective video interviews, developer livestreams, sales across our entire catalogue, as well as fantasy and historical multiplayer tournaments. We also want to make this a celebration you can get involved in, so we'll be hosting giveaway competitions, inviting you to ask questions of our developers, as well as spotlighting your favourite mods and content creators who have helped make the Total War community what it is today. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/4458423/b6e5e77e23906595528f385a024b26b119fbd6cc.jpg Beyond celebrating the past, we plan on welcoming the future of Total War in a big way. Behind the scenes, we’re in the early stages of producing the Total War: 25th Anniversary Showcase, the first video presentation of its kind in our history. Taking place in early December, this show will unveil the new games that you can expect to play in the near and distant future, as well as introduce you to the development teams making them. We’ll have more details to share as we approach the end of the year, but whether you’re a fantasy or history fan, there will be plenty to enjoy! It's safe to say, a large part of the game's enduring appeal is the mod scene. Rome 2 mods helped uplift the game when it wasn't at its best, and as the game matured these same creations helped keep things interesting with various overhauls, realism projects, and other quality of life changes. Divide et Impera is a long-running project that's currently the second most popular mod on the Steam workshop, and it's just got a new major update. You can read the full patch notes, but in summary this update brings new and improved units to a number of actions, new UI features for population and supply mechanics, new buildings, and some fixes for some long-running bugs that have been previously reported. In case you missed it, The Last Airbender: Total War is a total conversion mod that offers a custom campaign map and custom battle maps based on the popular Nickelodeon show. It has portraits and models for the five major characters, including Avatar Aang, as well as for some of the primary antagonists. Unique unit skins for each of the nations have also been rendered. The mod reached its beta milestone earlier this week, after a concerted nine-month development effort by the mod team. They're keeping things restrained for now, and will develop the mod depending on player feedback. The main campaign is set at the start of Book 1: Water, although there is another campaign that's set just after the genocide of the air nomads, where you get to command Fire Lord Sozin. The modification turns the strategy game into a battle between the four elemental nations of the world, Aang and Zuko right at the forefront. The Last Airbender: Total War will be a top-to-bottom transformation, turning all the available families and factions into the element-based kingdoms of the popular animated series, and replacing the models with the Avatar's beloved cast of characters. The plan is to have as many aspects of the animation as possible, letting you just straight up go to war, or play out your favourite pivotal scenes and moments of battle. The mod is unfinished, but according to the latest update from creator KurdishNomad on ModDB, a 2021 release date is on the cards. Two campaigns will be available: an open-ended one featuring Sozin as he leads the Fire Nation in the world war that frames the show, and the main plot, though only some of that will be playable at first, as KurdishNomad works out all the logistics. Since launch this game has struggled to forge its own path and find a way out of the shadow of its critically acclaimed namesake. Granted, following up one of the seminal strategy games of the early 2000s is no easy task, and so it's understandable that the sequel does not totally succeed in accomplishing such a lofty goal. Lacking either the epic civil war of the original Rome, the climactic endgame of Shogun II, or the looming narrative weight of Attila, the grand campaign of Rome II has always been a little flat around the edges. That being said, it did manage to grab fourth place in our list of best Total War games, and still commands a respectable player count, even after all these years and the newer games that have released since. Regardless, the Total War modding community is here to help. Boasting some of the most exciting player-created content of the series, the mods listed below help push Rome II from a good, but lacklustre sequel to a genuinely great strategy title worthy of its revered lineage. It still pulls in a respectable 5,000 players on average a day, which is about a third of what Three Kingdoms manages at the moment. We imagine that Rome 2 mods help with that, as does the decent DLC library. This is a comprehensive list of every faction, unit, and campaign pack ever sold for Rome II in order of release. Our goal here is to summarise the key points, along with details on what makes it stand-out as an expansion along with our general impression as to whether or not it's worth picking up. The golden rule here is that a decent sale can forgive most things, and Rome 2 old enough to benefit from high discount events now, but we still hope you find it useful. Also remember; Total War DLC's have become fairly factional/thematic, so your mileage can and will vary depending on what's on offer. Their initial recyclable boxes are made of recycled cardboard with recycled paper manuals too. This scheme will start in earnest with the launch of Total War: Rome II‘s new Enemy At The Games Edition, out next week.
