The Sims just got official merch and it's about as pricy as the average expansion packNov 22, 2023 - VG247The Sims has a new official merch store and, provided you’ve got a decent amount of disposable income to spend on things with green diamonds on them, it might be worth checking out. Surprisingly, given how notorious it’s been for charging players an arm, a leg, and the rights to their first-born children for expansion packs, this is the first time the series has properly delved into the merch zone. Unsurprisingly, some of the goods on offer will set you back a pretty penny, as is often the way with official merchandise. If you head on over to The Sims Shop, you’ll find a bunch of different items designed to appeal to the kind of people who’ve disposed of more poor sims than they can count by deleting the ladders from swimming pools. “From hoodies to socks, we've got you covered from Plumbob to toe,” as the Tweet from the official Sims account announcing the shop’s arrival put it. We made ourselves, built a beautiful little home, and adopted a cat. I became a professional writer or something, and they went into the Music Industry. We sputtered and blustered when our Sims declared to us, through the magic of in-game whims, that they wanted to get married. I quickly red-X ousted those desires from our Sims minds. Instead of acknowledging their desire for wedding bells, I had our Sims adopt a dog. That sinking feeling remained, however, and much like the incisive qualities of predictive text and pre-cog algorithms, I began to question how serious our relationship was. Electronic Arts is offering a Sims 4 Rewards program that will unlock emotionally influential bonus content for owners of the previous Sims game. A total of 13 Sims 4 Rewards are up for grabs, based on how much Sims 3 content you own. The base game nets you the "Let There Be Plumbobs" award, "Plumbobs" being those green diamonds used to identify selected characters; each owned piece of DLC brings with it another reward, like "Whatever the Weather" for The Sims 3: Seasons, or "Enchanted Aurora" for The Sims 3: Supernatural. And if you own all of it, you'll also be granted the bizarre-looking "Ultimate Freezer Bunny Award." What specifically these rewards do isn't known just yet, but EA says each of them "will affect your Sims' emotions and personalities in a unique way." The bonuses will unlock automatically the first time The Sims 4 is launched, as long as the required Sims 3 content is attached to your Origin account. The Electronic Arts-sponsored sale concluded yesterday with a grand total of $10.5 million in sales according to the Humble Bundle Twitter account. More than 2.1 million bundles were sold, with almost all of the proceeds (tips to the Humble Bundle organizers are the only exclusion) going toward charities such as the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Watsi, the Human Rights Campaign, the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. The Sims 3 indulges in flights of fancy with a new dragon townMay 10, 2013 - PC Gamer Looks like we'll be able to re-enact parts of Game of Thrones in The Sims 3 now, with the introduction of a new dragon-themed map—I wonder how to say "oh god help me it's eating my face" in Simlish? Judging by the trailer, the new town's taking some inspiration from the much-loved book series and show, with long flowing gowns, steely-eyed good-looking guys, and some supernaturally inclined tattooed people making an appearance. And then, of course, there's the cute baby dragon, delightfully roasting some poor dude in a quiet countryside valley. Dragon Valley, its elven residents, and an adorable red dragon become available on May 31 at the Sim store. It's $25 for the standard bundle, but an upgraded bundle for $35 will also net you a theme-appropriate "Celtic Lands" furniture and decoration set, as well as a slew of SimPoints to spend in the store. It seems like a steep price to pay, though, when you could just sell your slave army. After nearly two hundred expansion packs* for The Sims 3, Maxis is finally moving on to the next generation of The Sims. The predictably named The Sims 4 will be coming to PC and Mac in 2014, the company has announced. (*Not true. Exaggeration.) Here's the original announcement: The Sims franchise is fueled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world. Their continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world's most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide. There's no mention of "connected" or "always-on" or "social" in the announcement. We're certain that Maxis wants to avoid a repeat of SimCity's launch fiasco--but who knows what kind of design they'll take next for the next trap-people-in-bathrooms-and-watch-them-die simulator. Update: The Sims 4 is an offline game. In an updated post, Maxis points out that The Sims 4 "celebrates the heart and soul of the Sims themselves, giving players a deeper connection with the most expressive, surprising and charming Sims ever in this single-player offline experience."
