We have pushed out a new update, containing the following improvements: Numerous text tweaks in all 12 languages, thanks to your feedback. Option to move phrases by clicking instead of dragging. Ability to zoom into text in close-ups (we introduced this in the previous patch, but forgot to document it!). Better controller support. Now, the settings menu contains controls mapping information, and there are button prompts when the game detects a controller. Fixed Z-ordering bug that sometimes made collected words visible through menus and puzzle panels. Improved visibility of certain hotspot highlights. Some puzzles now accept alternative words as correct, to reduce the number of cases in which the player has figured out the answer but is deemed ‘wrong’ for using the unintended word. Basic mod support, which allows for easier extending of the game with features like fan translations. Patch 1.1.0Dec 2, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsIn this patch we have addressed the following issues: Removed white frame in full-screen mode. Achievements should re-trigger when you visit a scenario, if you did not receive the correct achievement after finishing a scenario. Removed ability to break the game on Steamdeck using full-screen toggle. Now there is a zoom functionality (accessible using mouse-wheel or button Y on a controller). Display settings are stored per device, instead on the cloud. External controller disconnection should not remove Steamdeck inputs anymore. A few minor typos fixed in the texts. The Rise of the Golden Idol available now!Nov 12, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello Detectives, We’re thrilled that The Rise of the Golden Idol has now launched! Out on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, this sequel builds on the world we introduced in The Case of the Golden Idol and draws us ever deeper into the mystery of the eponymous relic. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2716400/The_Rise_of_the_Golden_Idol/ But why a sequel? What more is there to tell? Let’s unravel the development of The Rise of the Golden Idol together… The Idol rises again There is so much more of the story of the Golden Idol to explore. We wanted to see where we could take the story and how the Idol’s power might be influential with a whole new cast of characters and in a very different setting. Against the backdrop of growing enlightenment and cult panic, The Rise of the Golden Idol takes place 200 years after the unspeakable fate of the Cloudsleys in The Case of the Golden Idol. Now in the 1970s, the legend of the Idol has all but faded into the annals of history and myth, as global political tensions and societal unrest dominate headlines. In a period of great change, one thing remains constant: the desire to utilize such a powerful artifact to reshape the world. We wanted to explore how a more modern world - with phones and television - might influence a person’s use of the Idol - and how the Idol might influence that new setting. With 20 new cases to untangle, brand new players will be able to step into Rise without having played the first instalment, while players of the first game will definitely be able to pick up some subtle references. Whether you’re a veteran detective or a newly minted investigator, you’ll find yourself immersed in the world of the Golden Idol. A refreshed visual style If you’re familiar with our first game in the series, you will notice that the visual style of The Rise of the Golden Idol is different to that of The Case of the Golden Idol and its DLCs. For The Case of the Golden Idol, we focused on pixel art to invoke the adventure game vibes of games of old, a familiar visual language for indie games. For The Rise of the Golden Idol, we decided to focus on exploring a different style more familiar to co-founder Ernests, who has a background as a painter. While the visual style of our second game is different, its essence in the characters and environments are still a very recognizable, signature Golden Idol look. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44781302/69e2e205003d57d1118c85c3b6ae053dbcd1efe6.jpg New era, New UI One thing we wanted to achieve with The Rise of the Golden Idol was for players to have the ability to explore more complex puzzles and have more freedom in how to solve scenarios. Developing Rise in a new engine gave us the opportunity we were looking for to achieve this: a UI overhaul. We redesigned the game’s UI and moved from the Exploring - Thinking panels to independent panels where players can track the clues they’ve found, characters they’ve encountered, and fill in the story panel separately. This m...Release timing, pricing, and the future of the Golden Idol seriesNov 8, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello Detectives, We have some news to share ahead of the game’s launch next week regarding release timing, pricing, and future plans. Release Timing The Rise of the Golden Idol will be releasing worldwide on all platforms November 12, 2024 @10AM PST. The Nintendo Switch release has been hit with an unexpected delay in a few territories and will now be releasing on November 14, 2024 @ 10AM PST. Pricing & Looking Forward The Rise of the Golden Idol will be launching at $19.99 or Steam's regional recommended equivalent. For the first week we will also be offering a 10% launch discount, so take advantage of that before it is gone. Additionally - today we are announcing that we will be continuing to support The Rise of the Golden Idol throughout 2025 with new content. There are a ton of additional standalone stories we want to tell set in the Golden Idol universe, and we found that the best way to tell these stories is through four self-contained DLC chapters - called Investigations. Similar to the DLC released for The Case of the Golden Idol, these are optional side content and are not required to conclude the story in The Rise of the Golden Idol. Rather, these are for fans who want more puzzles, more characters, and more mysteries to solve. Each of the four Investigations chapters will include at least four new cases to solve. On top of the base game’s 20 scenarios - that is a lot of sleuthing. Our roadmap has a sneak peak at the first Investigations chapter and when you can expect all future content to drop. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44781302/289379ee65a83e1a5be7b5332dca277155c63093.png These will be available for sale individually as they release for $5.99 or as part of the Detective's Pass, a discounted pack of all four chapters and the complete soundtrack for $17.99. We will also be offering a permanent stacking discount for owners of The Case of the Golden Idol, so that you can pick up The Rise of the Golden Idol and all future content at an even cheaper price. We can’t wait for you all to dive into the next installment of Golden Idol when it launches next week. - Team Idol Release Date Reveal, Extended Demo, and Case ReduxOct 10, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello Detectives, We have lots of exciting news to share for new and returning fans of Golden Idol. You should be prompted to update the next time you launch the game, and choose either the classic or Redux version to launch. While this update features no new playable cases or scenarios, it introduces a number of new features that make it a smoother experience overall. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1677770/The_Case_of_the_Golden_Idol/ Here are some highlights from the Redux update. 12 supported languages: English (US) French Italian German Spanish (Latin America) Spanish (Spain) Portuguese (Brazil) Japanese Korean Polish Turkish Chinese (Traditional) *Chinese (Simplified) will be made available at a later date. New UI & Hint System Returning players should notice an overhaul to the UI, which should improve readability and navigation, especially at smaller resolutions. Additionally, there are now markers that indicate what objects can be interacted with, so no more guessing or using guides when you get stuck. Steam Deck Support Support for Steam Deck is now in beta. In addition to running smoother, the UI and text should now scale to appropriately fit the screen size. Once the review process completes, The Case of the Golden Idol will be listed as a Verified title on the store and in your library, a process we expect to take a few weeks. For Nintendo Switch Owners - The new release of The Case of the Golden Idol: Complete Edition will need to be manually claimed on the Nintendo eShop, and is free for all current owners. This rerelease includes all of the above changes and addresses an infrequent issue that caused some players to lose all save progress. And finally… A thanks from Team Idol & Playstack for all the support for the Golden Idol over the past couple years. We hope you enjoy the demo and can’t wait for everyone to check out The Rise of the Golden Idol when it releases next month.
