Freedom Games stands as one of the top indie publishers on Steam. This collaboration won't just rejuvenate Kingdom Wars 4; it will also provide us with the resources needed to continuously enhance and refine KW4. We're eager to unveil all the forthcoming updates, starting with today's 38th update. Update 38 Today's substantial milestone update brings numerous gameplay improvements! We've focused on enhancing quality of life, addressing various balancing issues and bugs, and refining AI, pathfinding, and various other aspects. Here's a closer look at what Update 38 has in store: Resolved various pathfinding and unit behavioral issues during sieges. Fixed a major issue with certain ranged units and siege auto-targeting citizens during town sieges. Redesigned auto-resolve features on the world map. Auto-resolve no longer removes zero-strength units. Weak units like peasants, chickens, and siege now almost always survive if the player's army wins auto-resolve. Fixed major issues with military units not leveling up in auto-resolve. Balancing improvement to world map army/strength – support and some siege units no longer contribute to strength. Enhanced visual effects on levels and the world map. FX now appears immediately when loading a new instance of the world map or levels. All cinematic text windows now have a proper background, making reading cinematic text easier. The space key no longer pauses the campaign map, as it was confusing players in the video. Major redesign of the RTS build-up and battle UI – it now displays all available units, buildings, and techs, but they are greyed out until researched. The Marshall/Military window now shows the name of the town instead of the region for attacked player assets. Palisade gatehouses in RTS are now clearly marked with flags for better visibility. Starting and newly created armies now move away from their spawn point, making them easier to find and select. Removed looted skull symbol from looted towns once they are no longer looted. Significant improvements to campaign AI across the board. Resolved all issues where players or AI couldn't invite armies into battle. World map AI now spawns fewer armies, but they are stronger. World Map AI – dual armies now consistently attack together. World Map AI now spawns double armies closer to each other. World Map AI will no longer deploy triple and quadruple armies. Increased invite range for multiple armies for both players and AI. Fixed numerous issues where armies or towns behaved oddly on the world map, such as towns and armies not correctly interacting. Redesigned from the ground up it`s our biggest and most ambitious title, taking place in 16th - 17th centuries this game focuses on early gunpowder warfare and scalable gameplay - playing as a landless mercenary captain and scheming your way to the crown. There`s a lot of very exciting tech and improvements going into Renaissance Kingdom Wars, and over the coming months this also means that we`ll be copying some of these improvements into Kingdom Wars 4. So you can expect very meaningful monthly or even bi-weekly updates in the coming months and that should help bring KW4 more current - both with gameplay polish, ui improvements, performance and some visuals upgrades as well. From reworked combat, pathfinding, improvements to game light, to reduced loading time and so much. With that said - let`s take a closer look at what this milestone update 37 brings: Various polish to the main menu Main menu buttons now have a mouse over and click animation Changed the loading screen - so that dead rising loading screen is not shown anymore Major improvement to tasking battalions Greatly reduced input lag when tasking a lot of battalions in busy combat Greatly reduced world map loading speed - in many cases it would take 5-6 seconds instead of 10-12 as before Fixed major issue with world map where some towns would take additional minute to show up on the world map Various optimization to loading levels Fixed issues with world map gameplay during first minute of play having occasional issues interacting with towns Final rework of the world map camera zoom - it`s not quick and smooth Final improvement to the in-game camera zoom and controls Major update of the in-game light scheme Fixed major issue with it being hard to see units during rain, nighttime or winter Reworked cavalry forces - they are a lot more effective now Cavalry Trample ability is a lot more useful now with cavalry unit taking up to 30% less damage Major redesign of melee combat Instead of units just have a couple of melee attack animations they now have several attack animations Fixed a major design flow in melee combat where units would drop shields and other weapons on the ground Various other improvement to melee combat Various cavalry troops now use different animations for attack - like mounted knight with lance, or chevalier with sword Fixed last issues w...Update 36 - ImprovementsNov 6, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, We have a solid update 36 for you today, in which update we focused on various visual improvements as well as a usual set of fixes and polish. With this big update we focused on areas that most of our players ask us to improve things - camera controls AI, balancing and everyone favorite unit - Royal Guard. Game`s difficulty and overall flow has been greatly reworked - to make startup a lot easier, but then to quickly crank up difficulty, with world map AI being a lot more aggressive and intelligent. We`ve also reworked how personal time is used to enter RTS mode, it`s now capped, but a lot more powerful. In addition we have various world map GUI improvements as well. And finally - we have resolved couple of issues where world map AI was cheating to keep up with the player. New realistic approach makes AI have weak spots, but it makes up for it in other ways now. Hope you`ll enjoy the new and improved gameplay flow and experience. This update also includes some bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Lets take a closer look at what today`s update 33 has in store: Fixed server asking for login in the main menu Fixed major exploit allowing player to easily make peace with all Kingdoms Cost of improving diplomatic relations through gifts is now much higher Fixed major bug with Empire victory condition not working Victory conditions are now a lot easier - Empire requires defending 12 nations instead of 25 Ultimate victory condition now requires defeating 24 nations instead of al 48 Fixed issues with being unable to defeat some nations Improvement to Kiev nations with correct town ownership on the world map Plague campaign events are now a lot more spaced out on the world map All events play-through now takes 20 campaign years instead of 11 Improved interaction between armies and cities Increased radius at which armies can interact with cities - heal units and recruit units or attack cities Increased radius at which armies can invite other armies into battle Greatly increased starting resources Update 32 - Major ImprovementsSep 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, We have another major update for you. With the 32nd update we looked into fixing one of the worst remaining issues with KW4 - occasional crash when changing levels or engaging in extremely dense combat. This issue was coming from game using too much visual memory - that we managed to finally find a perfect workaround. As a minor inconvenience - you will notice half a second load times when creating new campaign or using Diplomacy window. In addition today`s update includes better stability, decreased loading times and improvements to the fundamentals of gameplay and performance. You will also notice improvements to world map interactions between cities and armies - fixing a number of rare issues - like armies not getting invited into battles, or clicking on armies or towns to attack not working correctly. Also please keep in mind that we are migrating to a new server hosting provider this week, and expect online features of the game to be offline until September 12th or so. Now lets take a closer look at what today`s update 32 has in store: Minor changes and improvements to Dead Rising DLC Dead Rising DLC loading screens updated Foundation work for the upcoming Kingdom Wars Prologue stand alone edition. To start things of we have finally reworked the look of world map armies, as well as improved interactions with them. They are easily visible and selectable now, and no longer come with delayed selection or other issues. In addition we had a big pathfinding improvement. Units are a lot more responsive in battle now, tasking units and calculating paths is a lot faster now, and units perform much better when being ordered a new target or to withdraw from an active melee battle. And finally this update includes a good deal of balancing work across the board. Lets take a closer look at what our 31st update has in store: Reworked how armies look on the world map Army is now one easily visible and selectable unit instead of a battalion Fixed various issues with army selection delays Transition between army and ship when leaving port is a lot smoother and faster now Pathfinding and unit tasking performance improvement Tasking large number of battalions now takes at most just over 1 seconds – instead of several seconds Large groups of units tasked are a lot more responsive Fixed some issues with units getting stuck while tasking Fixed some of the very rare crash issues when switching between combat and world map Improved tasking units away from combat – they stop fighting and pull back faster Re-balanced the income generation of buildings on the world map Most resources producing buildings generate a lot more silver while on the world map Rebalanced town happiness calculations - building make cities happies Rebalance of cost and effect of various world map actions and conditions Increased the cost of creating new armies Rebalanced late game units - they are a lot more affordable Late game units now have much lower upkeep Update 30 - Milestone UpdateJun 1, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, We have a major 30th milestone update today that greatly improves a lot of areas of the game. To start things of we have completely redesigned the game rules with diplomacy, nation relations and starting conditions for new campaigns. This creates a much better and dynamic experience that`s also more historically accurate and a lot more logical compared to the original KW4 setup. In addition today`s update comes with a lot of fixes to some of the remaining issues and bugs across the board, delivering a much better gameplay experience. In addition this update fixes a few important issues across the board- like hamlets not leveling up and scrolling the camera. First and foremost – the long awaited Dead Rising is finally ready. It took us quite a bit of time, and a number of delays to get this DLC ready for our players as Kingdom Wars 4 game engine performance just wasn`t able to handle it, thus we had to take a detour and spend nearly half a year improving the games performance. But we are finally here. We also focused on fixing last remaining bugs and balancing. In addition this update includes a lot of work on the Dead Rising DLC that is not currently enabled. For our next update we are bringing you Dead Rising DLC. With performance finally on a decent level after over a year long delay we can finally deliver on this. Though please keep in mind - to properly experience Dead Rising DLC you would need at least a mid-range system with SSD due to an extremely large number of undead that the game keeps track of and controls. We are expecting Dead Rising to launch next month. New new features, improvements, polish and balancing, and an additional game mode long requested by our players - playing "What if Plague never happened?" scenario. And yes - Undead Rising is right around the corner as well! This update also does wonders for performance and fixing last remaining game crashing issues. We have also added support for Portuguese language that has long been requested. And we also added various cheat codes both for campaign and skirmish. The changes include lots of GUI improvements, long-requested info popups with stats for the world map, a lot of balancing polish. On top of that we have redesigned the auto-resolve system, improve a lot of translations, and did a huge rebalance of both combat and world map gameplay and stats. Please keep in mind there will be a follow-up update by Monday, adding couple of very awesome new features and visual GUI improvements that weren`t ready in time for today`s update. And a note about Dead Rising DLC. Not sure if you`ve seen our other updates about it - but if not - the reason it was delayed so long is performance issues with Kingdom Wars 4. We spent months fixing these from August until this update, and glad to say that it`s finally resolved. So with this major roadblock out of the way I`ll be sure to rush the work on Undead Rising for February launch. Finally can share the good news that final obstacle has been removed.
