This should prevent performance issues in some circumstances, specifically when a large number of achievements was already unlocked. Note that this issue surfaced due to changes in how Steam deals with repeated achievement API calls, and this change affects many of our prior releases in similar ways. We are committed to patching all affected releases, but this has taken some time, especially for cases where we need to re-build games for which we already archived various development resources. SYSTEM Battle System The game builds on the seamless transition between field battles and command battles introduced in the previous game with new mechanics that can be used in both: Cross Charge & EX Chains! As a bonus, the party member that you swap in will have enhanced attack power for a period of time. - EX Chains EX Chains can be activated by fulfilling specific conditions during command battles. Once these conditions have been met, using a craft or normal attack against a stunned enemy will automatically activate an EX Chain! This allows party members with SCLM activated to launch a simultaneous attack that will also impact nearby enemies, dealing massive damage. In addition, the Topic System allows players to gain an advantage in battle by using conversation topics as bargaining chips. These topics can be obtained by interacting with other characters throughout the city. The game also features the Alignment system, which allows players to change their character’s three unique attributes and influence characteristics such as their status, the forces they fight with (or against), and even how the plot unfolds. This update includes all the localization improvements which are also available for other platform versions of the game, and we took this opportunity to improve the encoding quality of all English and Japanese voice files on PC. Update English text, images and all other assets with various localization fixes and improvements. Re-balance English voice lines. Improve encoding quality of all Japanese and English voice lines. Improve support for Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync. Various other minor fixes. Note that, primarily due to the increase in audio quality, this update increases the storage requirements of the game by roughly 2 GB. While we expect this patch to improve the situations for all users, with the great variety of hardware and software configurations available on PC this is not always guaranteed in all circumstances. Since one of the first questions in the comments in patch notes for Reverie is frequently concerning fixes to various text issues which are not PC-specific, I'd like to note here that these are still being worked on for all versions of the game. We will of course integrate these fixes as soon as they are available. And of course, in the unexpected case that this patch breaks anything on your particular PC, note that you can always revert to earlier versions of the game by selecting them in the Steam "Beta" menu. Here are the full patch notes: Fix a deadlock which could occur on some systems in rare circumstances, leading to the game becoming stuck on a black screen during loading / scene transitions. Sorry to those that were affected that it took until now to resolve this -- we were unable to reproduce it on any of our internal or external test systems until now. Fix a softlock issue in a small subset of battles, where very high frametime spikes (i.e. when performing an elaborate craft or art on a slower system) could lead to characters falling through the floor. Improve vertical culling of objects on an interior map. Fix the alignment of the battle turn counter in ultrawide aspect ratios. Fix a specific late-game button prompt. Fix the "Millennial Trove" shop name in its header. Fix two separate instances of potential crashes on some systems in the Magical Girl Alisa minigame. Disable AVX in order to support very old or lower-end CPUs. Improve GPU-bound performance in VR by 20% or more by leveraging the hidden area mesh. Fix the button prompt shown in the battle change tutorial (yes, we missed one). PC Version Features and Behind the ScenesJul 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi everyone, Trails into Reverie is releasing soon, so we want to provide some more information about the specific features of our PC port, and also a bit of a behind-the-scenes tour regarding its development -- for those who are interested in that kind of thing, and in hearing why Reverie's PC port was quite a bit more challenging than we initially expected. PC Feature Overview Since Trails into Reverie is, at a game systems level, a clear descendant of the Trails of Cold Steel series, I think it makes sense to start with a list of PC features returning from our ports of those games. I'll try to keep this one short since it's nothing new, and you can read up on our ports of these games elsewhere: Arbitrary resolution support, including all secondary render targets Unlocked framerate support up to 360 FPS Support for MSAA, and optional transparency supersampling Ultrawide aspect ratio support Additional and improved shadow filtering and quality options Extended draw distance options (including an option for unlimited draw distance) A FoV adjustment slider Various smaller graphics settings, to e.g. toggle individual post-processing effects, increase their quality, or enable anisotropic filtering {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40784472/a03ef373eb955fec025d3cd291bfabf531225f08.png In addition to these returning features, we have made the following major improvements compared to the Trails of Cold Steel ports: Fully action-based input rebinding: for our port of Trails into Reverie, we completely replaced the input system, moving from a controller-focused underlying system to a semantic-action-based system. What this means in practice is that you can e.g. have different contextual mouse/keyboard bindings in many different contexts, which do not always have to follow the controller layout in a uniform fashion. It also means that you can bind additional direct actions not available on controllers due to lack of space (e.g. directly using S-breaks in battle). Of course, all menus and help/tutorial screens will still show the correct button prompts for whatever binding you chose. An in-game settings menu, with all options applying immediately. This also includes some other new options that you might recognize from our recent Crossbell releases, for example the ability to customize the behavior of the game when it loses focus (e.g. when you alt-tab out). Greatly improved arbitrary aspect ratio support, now also supporting aspect ratios narrower than 16:9. The latter primarily targets 16:10 as found on some monitors and notably the Steam Deck, but even 4:3 should generally work, so knock yourself out with that CRT! (Take care not to do so literally, given the weight of those things.) More about the trials and tribulations of actually making this happen later.
