The new season arrived earlier today, following two-and-a-half hours of maintenance. The downtime was necessary to deploy patch 1.2.0, the game's latest. But that's not all; as promised, the game's first battle pass has also arrived. As with most other live service games, The Cycle: Frontier's Fortuna Pass is made up of free and premium tiers. You earn progress by simply playing the game. If you'd like to unlock some special character and weapon skins, you can purchase the pass for 950 Aurum (~$10). The game soft-launched with a pre-season on June 8th, so its transition into the first season seems to consist largely of the launch of its Fortuna battle pass. More info here: https://thecycle.game/news-and-media/the-cycle-frontier-twitch-drops With that out of the way, let us dive into the changes and fixes from Patch 1.2.0! CHANGES The creature spawn for the Dead Scientist mission was adjusted – there will be at least 5 creatures that are always spawning. We adjusted some of the loot and enemy respawn timers. We did another tuning pass for our matchmaking buckets. You can now craft Altered Nickel. 5 common Nickel are required for that. B9 Trenchgun, Rusty B9 Trenchgun, and Shattergun got adjustments to their spread. Hipfire Spread increased from 3.5 to 5.5. ADS Spread increased from 3 to 5. Rusty AR-55 damage reduced from 13 to 12. AR-55 damage reduced from 13 to 12 Manticore damage reduced from 13 to 12 Note from the design team: We really appreciate the feedback we’ve gotten so far and keep getting when it comes to balancing. Keep it coming! We see it as a dialogue with the community to get this right over time, and as the season progresses. With that in mind, when it comes to balancing late-game gear, we’re still watching data and feedback to see how things develop over time,...The Cycle: Frontier - Hotfix 1.1.2Jun 20, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHi Prospectors, the following things are included in today's hotfix: Tightened our internal anti-cheat measures Fixed some item exploits Fixed some abusable exploits (e.g. Pickaxe) Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. Dev Update - Pre-Season PatchJun 16, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsThe Cycle: Frontier - Patch 1.1.0Jun 15, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings Prospectors, Community Team here, it is time for our first patch! Thank you everyone for your patience and your great feedback. It is wonderful to see so many of you tread the soil of Fortuna III and be so active in our community. There are some things that we need to iron out and that we’ve put our focus on, though not everything is part of Patch 1.1.0 as some things will take a bit longer to solve. The friend list, for instance, is a super tricky topic. There is a workaround, however: make sure to set your Steam friend list to “public”, this should do the trick in the meantime. We are sorry that some of you encounter issues like crashes, getting kicked back to the station, or other nasty things that prevent you from having fun. It would be great if you could enable “ENABLE GPU CRASH DEBUGGING” in your options to help us identify additional problems. A lot of these problems are tackled today, yet there are also various reasons why these things can happen: An unstable internet connection, Programs that interfere with the connection or visuals (net limiter or GPU / graphics enhancers), And of course, cheats. As I just mentioned cheating, we tuned our values in the afternoon and there should be some visible improvements. It is clearly an ongoing fight, and we can already see large improvements on all fronts compared to our previous betas. We will of course continue to tweak our systems along with new updates. We would also like to mention one thing that’s at the top of our to-do list: a reconnect feature. Performance is another topic that is not optimal for some of you. We found some things that we can fix, that are currently tested and that will be part of the later patch 1.2.0. We’ve included some improvements for 1.1.0 already. Talking about 1.2.0, this will also include some smaller adjustments to some of the weapons. With that said, time to dive into the content for Patch 1.1.0: Changes Gorgon Ammo Counter received an update. You can add a key bind to mute incoming audio (while hearing Kazoo Kid on your stream might be nice, some other things are rather nasty and those can vanish with a quick press of a button). We updated some of the in-game melee weapon icons. Small adjustment to the rail of the Advocate so optics will look a bit nicer now. Faction Campaigns received some love, and some of the hint texts and mission images received an overhaul to hint at the correct location. Mods and Beacons unlock properly as well now. We’ve also adjusted some of the quest requirements to make them less annoying. Adjustments to the Fortuna Pass Banner on the station – it looks a bit shinier now. A whole bunch of changes to our systems (Tech Tree, Shops) to make interactions with these smoother and more reactive. Hopefully, you will encounter fewer issues with them after the patch. Tuned Ledge Climbing a bit. Climbing will feel smoother now. We will continue to monitor the situation. Bugfixes Fixed an issue with the starting quests, as some player...The Cycle: Frontier map: What you need to know to surviveJun 14, 2022 - PC GamerThere are a couple of maps to choose from when you first drop into The Cycle: Frontier. The update will include the following: Stash Overflow was adjusted - If you hand in a contract or job you will be able to receive the reward, no matter if the stash is full or not, to prevent you from getting blocked. Adjustments to the currencies for some countries that showed wrong numbers. This Hotfix also is the framework for some of the fixes of bigger issues coming in Patch 1.1.0 and there is the possibility that the Hotfix already prevents your quarter upgrades from failing, if you were affected by it. Thanks for your patience. Have a great day and see you on Fortuna III!Free Escape from Tarkov like game The Cycle launches "pre-season"Jun 8, 2022 - PCGamesNThe new Escape from Tarkov-like free game from the creators of Spec Ops: The Line is finally out on Steam, as The Cycle: Frontier pre-season has launched. While The Cycle: Frontier season one release date doesn't hit until late June, the FPS game is out now and progress carries over into the season start. The Cycle launched on the Epic Games Store in early access all the way back in August 2019, and developer Yager has steadily worked on the full release since then - transforming it into the PvPvE multiplayer game The Cycle: Frontier. Well, it's finally out, albeit as a "pre-season" release two weeks before the full season one launch. The Cycle: Frontier is essentially a space game version of Escape from Tarkov, set in "a dynamic sci-fi world featuring persistent maps and seamless matchmaking" according to the press release. The pre-season allows players to give the game a try and level up a bit before the full season one starts, a bit like a beta, except Yager says that there will be "no wipe" so players can keep their progress. The pre-season event is effectively a soft launch for the shooter, but the first season kicks off in earnest on June 22. The Cycle: Frontier is an extraction royale PvPvE shooter, essentially a lighter, more accessible take on Escape from Tarkov in a sci-fi setting. While this may be a soft launch, characters will not be wiped when June 22 arrives. Outside of the Fortuna Pass battle pass, which launches on June 22, you pretty much have access to everything the game has to offer if you start playing now. If you want to support the team, Yager has four types of Welcome Packs available for purchase - all at 25% off their normal prices during this period. It's a formula that Yager has been testing for a few years now, and it'll properly release in June of this year, with a preseason starting on June 8th before the proper launch and Season 1 on June 22nd... A free-to-play PvPvE shooter that takes a few cues from Escape from Tarkov, The Cycle: Frontier's release date has been revealed - it'll be touching down June 8. Your goal in The Cycle is pretty simple: you land on an abandoned planet, grab all the resources and goodies you can get your hands on, and then catch a ride on the next evac ship off-planet. Easy, right? Naturally, there are some problems: the surface of Fortuna III isn't completely barren, for one thing. It's populated by ravenous wildlife, all of which would like to find out what humans taste like. The Cycle also draws some inspiration from Hunt: Showdown, in that giving away your position by firing your weapons can be a deadly decision itself. If the fighting gets too hot, you'll alert other prospectors to your location, and they may very well show up to take what you've scrounged. Read the rest of the story... Yager's The Cycle: Frontier, the promising sci-fi take on Escape from Tarkov, has a release date. After two major closed beta tests, the developer finally revealed that PC players on Steam, and the Epic Games Store will be able to drop in on June 8. This is when the pre-season begins, effectively a soft launch for the highly-anticipated shooter. The first season will kick off in earnest two weeks later: on June 22, bringing with it the first battle pass. Despite a lack of blowout ads and sponsored streams, the game has found success organically on Twitch, as well as Steam. At the time of this writing, Frontier is Steam's most-wishlisted free-to-play game. Both beta tests were limited, but they still managed to grab over 900,000 players. Until then, take good care of yourselves Prospectors, and never forget: Fortuna favors the bold!DEV DIARY – PART 12 – GAME DESIGN TEACHINGS FROM CB2May 19, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello Prospectors! I am Noise, the Lead Game Designer for The Cycle: Frontier. I know that my name is not as fancy as some of our coolest team members (looking at you here, Marvelous Breadfish) and that you most probably never heard of me before. It’s because I'm *that good* at hiding around on Fortuna III. Now that Close Beta 2 has ended, we felt it was important to discuss our teachings from the CB2 and draw a picture of the future lying ahead for The Cycle from a design perspective. WHAT WAS OUR INITIAL APPROACH? Let's talk a bit about how we approached this beta on the design side. Thanks to Daze's wonderful work, we had a lot of commitments and a very clear creative direction about where we wanted to bring the game to. I won’t go into details here because that would be way too long; to keep it short, let’s say that we wanted wondrous feelings of exploration on a completely alien planet, tense uncertainty, unexpected adventures & outcomes, surprising events, and of course friendships and betrayals made along the way. In that regard, we firmly believe that we achieved all the goals that we set for ourselves within this given time frame. But now with CB2 rolling out, many of our hypotheses were put to the test. With a combination of business intelligence, community sentiment, and player feedback, we have a much clearer picture of what we need to do next – all this thanks to you folks! From now on, we will be able to focus on making the game better in every way, starting with the worst offenders and moving from there to smaller topics that we still consider worthy of note. SO, WHAT DO WE PLAN TO DO FOR RELEASE? Right now, we are concentrating our efforts on several crucial points for release: Power progression Weapon balancing Campaign Matchmaking Dungeon Social And who's best to speak about those changes, if not our experts on those topics? Let me introduce to you Kril and Rumble! WEAPON BALANCING AND GEAR POWER PROGRESSION Hello, I am Michel aka Kril, Game Designer in charge of our lovely creatures and our deadly weapons, among other things. I will do my best to walk you through our reasoning for the changes we plan to make regarding our PvP combat. During our Closed Beta 2, we gathered a lot of great feedback from all fronts. Some of them we addressed with our weekly patches which allowed us to better figure out the impact of our changes almost instantly. Now that the BETA has ended, we are taking the time to look at the feedback and the data we received from our different patches in order to evaluate the best course of action for release regarding our PvP. Here are the different topics regarding weapon balancing and power progression that we feel were the most important: POWER PROGRESSION The fact that the power progression curve gives a big advantage to better-geared players was a big point of frustration for most of you. We understand that it doesn't feel good at all to lose all your gear without a chance to be able to fight back, or rathe...Closed Beta 2 Patch 2.5Apr 20, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHi Prospectors, Patch 2.5, our last patch for this closed beta is gonna be live tomorrow with the following fixes and adjustments. Thank you for your patience Prospectors and thank you for participating in Closed Beta 2!STATE OF CLOSED BETA & PATCH 2.4Apr 12, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHi Prospectors, Today's entry is going to be two-fold: we're planning to have our weekly beta update tomorrow and, as usual, are ready to share our patch notes early with you. You will find them as a second part to this page. But first, we'd like to include a few words about the current state of the beta and, more importantly, its very near future. STATE OF CLOSED BETA Let's start with a few words about our ongoing beta. We've been going strong for about a month by now and are still seeing thousands of Prospectors dropping on the surface of Fortuna III on a daily basis. We're still constantly amazed and excited to see so many of you enjoying our game and sharing your feedback with all of us. It's been a huge help to our development teams, allowing them to confirm which points they should focus on and release those much-needed weekly patches. As usual, deep thanks to all of you out there! But again, we are more than aware of all the issues that have been emerging since the start of our beta. We are laser-focused on fixing all those as soon as we can and want to make sure the game will reach a finely polished state at release. The bad news is, we feel more time is needed to accomplish that and we won't be releasing this month. The good news is, we definitely have time to run this beta for a while longer, granting you access to the game for longer and allowing us to keep working on our current build. In other words, our Closed Beta 2 will be extended for another week, up to April 25th. A further announcement about the release date will be published soon enough, so make sure to keep an eye out for that one! CB2 PATCH 2.4 And now onto our second part: tomorrow's update and all you need to know about it! We aim to have the maintenance at 10 AM CEST / 7 PM AEDT / 4 AM EDT on the 13th of April. Please remember the ingame announcements are currently not working, you will lose your gear if you are on the planet when the maintenance starts! ADJUSTMENTS • The drop pod sequence of a player will only start if they have finished loading to prevent getting killed while your game did not load • "Start mission" was changed to "Accept mission" • As outlined in our last blog post, we are testing some changes to squads.
