Spring Update v1.06.1107 | Out NowApr 15, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsThe Spring Update for Skirmish and Multiplayer is out now. In case you missed it, we released a Dev Diary a few days ago that went in-depth on today’s update. The main highlight is a new feature: the Army Management tool, which allows you to create your own unit and army presets for Skirmish and Multiplayer modes. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/73462f6750726fe2c495438c09bc85e4db9287c2.jpg This gives you more freedom to set up and customize your reinforcements, just like in the main campaign. You can add new weapons, armor, and engine upgrades to vehicles, as well as additional weapons and abilities to infantry units. We hope you enjoy this new addition. Let us know what you think. Below you’ll find the full changelog for the update, have fun and enjoy the game. Changelog: • Added army editor where players can create their own army presets for each faction and use them in Skirmish and multiplayer matches. • Added weapon upgrades for Movement and Founders helicopters in Skirmish/Multiplayer modes. • Fixed an animation issue with infantry on client side in multiplayer. • Fixed several rare random crashes. • Fixed all known issues with Chinese fonts. • Minor AI fixes in Skirmish/Multiplayer. • Fixed minor pathfindingDev Diary - A look at the upcoming updateApr 11, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsWelcome back to the Resistance! It is time for an information dump on some upcoming updates and new content for the game. Check out information on the soon to be released Army Management Screen for Skirmish and Multiplayer, as well as some new bits of information on the upcoming Conquest Mode and some player questions answered too. Skirmish and Multiplayer Army Management Update It’s the Mid 2020’s, when in Terminator: Dark Fate, we are told that the Machines will rise up. Are we now entering the period of Machine Rule? Is the world on the brink yet? Well, one thing we are on the brink of is the new update for the game, that sees army customisation for Skirmish and Multiplayer introduced. Next week, we are releasing the new Army Management tool for Skirmish and Multiplayer games. This allows you to create new army presets, customising units and squads that can then be used either in Single Player Skirmish, or when you go head to head with other players. The new Army Management tool has the same customisation seen in the main campaign, allowing you to add new weapons, armor and engine upgrades to vehicles, and to add additional weapons and abilities to infantry units. Customised units become ‘presets’ within your army roster, that can be called during reinforcement. There is a set amount of ‘preset points’ within each army to balance the amount of customised units you can field, keeping the balance of armies fair. Either duplicate an existing Army set up and customise that duplicated version, or create a new customised army from scratch. Each new customised unit has its own new points cost. So, crank up a unit to the max, it may become twice as expensive as its base unit. For example, in the images below, there are 2 sets of Rangers units. The first is the default, that costs 800 points, the second, a rangers squad with an additional Laser Sniper Rifle and a full suite of additional abilities (Bullet Rain, Powerlifter, Marathon Runner, Chameleon and EMP Devices) that costs 2180 points. So there is a direct balance between cost and enhanced abilities. But it does allow you to hone various units to maximise their battlefield potential. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/f299f650b9b34683db3143835ec1ab1c49353cf5.jpg {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/a51dcc187b60b08711ea39f5245895b7af43c26f.jpg Each new preset can be called just once during a battle, but quickly duplicating presets in the Army Management Screen allows multiple versions of a unit to be easily created. And fear not, the base, default version of a unit can be called upon during reinforcement as many times as you wish, so running out of unit types if you haven’t created multiple presets of each won’t happen. The Movement also is improved with this new Army Management screen as it now allows you to pre-set up tractor and trailer combinations, so trying to hurriedly link up a tractor and trailer during a multiplayer game is no longer an issue. The example below shows a customised Tractor Truck, with a He...What’s in store for 2025Feb 21, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsWelcome to the Resistance! It has been a year since we released Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance and I wanted to touch on the year just gone, and the year ahead of us. First off, I would like to give a personal thank you to all the players who joined us on the journey. It’s been great seeing your feedback and thoughts. This feedback helps us shape the game as we move forward. 2024 - Legion Arrived So, we released the game on 21st February 2024. The last year saw new Skirmish and Multiplayer modes added (Assault, Scavenger, Domination) as well as a number of new maps. We also brought a new campaign Map into the fold, letting us find out a little more about Kondo’s wife. The year ended with the release of “We Are Legion”, the new campaign DLC that saw the story continue but from the perspective of the Machines. We were truly happy with the response that the DLC got, and it was great fun seeing people's reaction to the story and where it went. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/a37a37d3dba09bd3438e2c0511fb9a67a0e0513c.jpg 2025 - Legion Rises So, in the Dark Fate movie, Grace tells Dani that Legion arises in the mid 20’s. So, get ready everybody because we’re almost there. But what have we got planned for the game for 2025. We have officially released this year's Roadmap and I want to explain a few of the new features, DLC’s and updates that we will be releasing this year. But, just to outline, many of these are still going through phases of development, so please don’t send the killbots after me if anything I say is changed in the final releases. Early 2025 RTS Fest Demo Let’s start with the past. We released a demo earlier this year in January for the Steam RTS Fest. This demo included 1 mission from the main game, and the first mission from the new “We Are Legion” DLC that was released in December 2024. The demo also included the ability to join multiplayer games, with the hope that we’d get a few people fighting each other online. We have been trying to highlight the multiplayer in the game, but we honestly do find, due to the game being primarily a single player campaign and so with the majority of players playing the campaign, that with the pool of players looking for multiplayer games at any point means that the MP lobbies often seem empty. Multiplayer is something that we continue in trying to improve, as the multiplayer gameplay is such fun for players who want to go head to head. There are groups on Discord and Steam that regularly play Multiplayer, so if you are interested, see if you can hunt them down. SPRING 2025 Multiplayer and Skirmish update The next update that is coming this Spring will include new functionality for Skirmish and Multiplayer. One new feature the team is adding is customisation elements to the Reinforcement functionality. This allows you to create your own unit and army presets, alter available units and generally much more freedom in the setup of reinforcements within both Skirmish and Multiplayer. This takes some of the n...A new demo is available nowJan 20, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsThe Steam RTS Fest has begun and you can now play a new demo for Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance. Mark here again, Senior Producer on Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance. Looking at my watch, we are only hours away from the release of the new DLC, “We Are Legion”. I cannot tell you how excited I am for it to be released so that you can play as Legion, and control its machine hordes against humanity! As mentioned in an earlier Dev Diary, the storyline in “We Are Legion” follows on from the story in the main game. So, I’m aware that there may be a bunch of players who haven’t completed the full campaign, with Alex Church and T-Force. As the DLC picks up threads from that story, I’ve decided that this Dev Diary is going to be a short story recap of the first campaign, so that, if you have completed it, there is a quick refresh for your memory, and if you haven’t completed the first campaign, this will catch you up (though, I would always suggest finishing the story in the main campaign to get the most out of the new DLC). And of course, there will be spoilers below. The game begins in Atlanta, one month after Judgment Day in the Dark Fate timeline. The city is destroyed, and Legion’s machine forces are overwhelming the last remnants of the US military. A police officer, Officer Stevens, takes it upon himself to save some surviving civilians, and in doing so, help steer the remnants of the army in a retreat. At the end of this prequel mission, Stevens is brought into the remnants of the army by a high ranking Military officer, who informs Stevens that ‘the government, the president, everyone, has gone’, and that they must build something new (more from this military officer later). We next see Stevens 10 years later, in the fight against Legion. Now a Major in the Founders force, a faction composed of the remnants of the US military. Major Stevens is bringing Lieutenant Alex Church (our main protagonist) to a Founder’s outpost for one of his first commanding roles. What follows includes a Legion convoy with human prisoners, Church making the decision to return to the Founder’s base, Haven, with the prisoners, and a subsequent attack by Legion, with Haven base ultimately being lost. This leaves Church and his small team of Founder survivors cast into the wasteland, with Legion hot on their trail. With manpower low, the team, nicknamed ‘T-Force’, start to make an allegiances with The Movement, made up of a militia from the civilian survivors who have banded together to fight back against the Machines. During this period, T-Force also meets ‘The Integrators’, a cult of humans that worship all things technology, to the point of speaking and acting like machines. They see the way of the Machine to be the true way forwards. As a faction, they scavenge technology and produce hi-tech weaponry and equipment, often splicing human and Legion tech together to make hybrid weapons and vehicles. Partly nomadic, there are Integrator settlements scattered around the south of the US. T-Force’s fight continues, alongside The Movement through New Mexico, ...Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance: We are Legion - Dev Diary #2Nov 22, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello, Mark here again (Senior Producer on the game), back with the next Developer Diary for Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance, with the new “We Are Legion” DLC just a few weeks away from release. As you can imagine, we are all busy polishing the various missions, and very excited to almost be at the point where you can play the new levels. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/6d45e912b0e4932f47724c4ecaece9f81c18ba7b.jpg The first diary last month answered a number of questions that some of the community posed, and this one follows up with further answers to even more questions. So, let’s get hear some of the questions you asked. I loved the challenge, playing as the “underdog” with T-Force, vs Legion. How will the DLC make playing Legion challenging with them being ‘realistically’ more powerful than other factions? Playing as Legion and not just relying on numbers or technical superpower Well, there are times where you do get that feeling of ‘over whelming the humans’ with sheer numbers of forces, especially on the easier difficulty levels. Playing on the lowest difficulty level, I find that there is an element of more traditional ‘group and attack in force’ RTS tactics. This does change on the higher difficulty settings though. But, even with a large, powerful Legion force, there are more advanced human adversaries that Legion fight against. You have probably seen from the shared playthrough of Mission 3 that there is a mission where you are attacking an Integrator camp, with their more advanced weaponry. And now, after Galveston, the Founders have more advanced weaponry (as you saw through the base game with basic vehicles being upgraded with plasma cannons and similar). So, even if you are fighting humans, their tech has been upgraded for a more difficult fight. How will the units be transferred from mission to mission? Will there be supply factors as per the base game, or something else? What factors will influence the “Reserve” points during missions? The player has a small core army that is taken from mission to mission in a Carrier. This can be customized and changed between missions. Alongside this, there are the research abilities and the blueprints functionality that I explained in the last dev diary. There are also Production units that Legion will provide at given points during a battle, depending on certain criteria. These are gained from ‘energy’ that you gain from performing various mission objectives. So for example, if you capture an Integrator power center, you may be given 5000 units to purchase more Legion reinforcements during the battle. Will the new Legion campaign be similarly linear as the base one or more open ended with different possible endgame outcomes? The original campaign had a few branches and decisions that ultimately impacted on the final few battles, especially with the final battle at Galveston, dictating which ally forces you received. There are less branching opportunities in “We Are Legion” when it comes to campaig...Slitherine Next & We Are Legion DLC: Mark Your Calendars for December 10thNov 14, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsDecember 10th is just around the corner, and we can't wait for you to experience the "We Are Legion" DLC. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3227830/Terminator_Dark_Fate__Defiance_We_are_Legion/ To celebrate the launch of the first DLC for Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance, we're gearing up for the Slitherine Next event, packed with exciting content about the game and much more. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1839950/Terminator_Dark_Fate__Defiance/ During the event, we'll share details about next year's content, upcoming DLCs, and of course, the official release of "We Are Legion". I’m Mark, the Senior Producer on Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance and here’s the second part of Dev Diary #1 https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1839950/view/4483989494757851439 Does this campaign follow the T-Force Story, or is it separate? Yes it does follow the events that occurred in the main game (which is why, anybody who has completed the first story may get more out of it than if you haven’t finished the main story, though we do give enough ‘backstory’ for any players starting the DLC without completing the main game). We see the ongoing story from a different perspective, and we hopefully answer a few questions that were remaining from the first story too. (Did somebody say Prototype?) And will we see any returning characters from the main game? Well, that would be telling….. (but yes, we do!). Is the new Campaign set in the same locations as the first campaign? As the story is continuing, we do begin in some very familiar locations. A lot of the new story does occur around the southern US states but as anybody would have seen in the announcement trailer and free wallpaper, we also are moving to some other locations in the US too, that are outside of the initial US map we provided. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/ec72a5b9db2f8be34a2ef4e397e6a92110057c03.jpg Are there any new Multiplayer or Skirmish Maps with the DLC? For the DLC, there won’t be additional maps given for Skirmish or MP. But, as we move into the new year, we will continue adding campaign maps into the Skirmish and Multiplayer lists as we have done through 2024. So, expect to see maps from the DLC appear in Skirmish and MP updates throughout 2025. There are also some new features that will also find their way eventually into Skirmish & Multiplayer. For example, the army customisation that I mentioned above may appear in some form (setting up your army before a battle!). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/0536e1b6199dca698c0e8c827d6ef77cf8ad763c.jpg Is there new music? There have been new, Legion themed tracks produced. There are 12 new tracks in the DLC, to get you into the ‘Legion vibe’. What were the difficulties with coming up with characters for the machines when they have been mostly "Shoot first ask questions never" throughout the franchise? This was definitely a challenge. We were aware that if the whole campaign was an emotionless machine speaking to you in binary, it may become frustrating. So, there are a couple of ‘human’ elements injected into the story, alongside Legion. So whilst you are ‘Playing Legion’, as we’ve seen in the first game, there are times when Legion will call upon human factions to help their cause (Chihuahua for example, or the occasional Founder!! (no spoilers)). So, missions will not just be Legion speaking to you like an angry answer machine. I hope that you have many more questions and we would love to answer them. So, if you want to learn more, there is a strong community on the official discord channel where I’m always about answering...Watch the broadcast and play the demoNov 6, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsMake yourself at home and watch the community play Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance. So here we are, a few weeks out from the release of the first major DLC. We are releasing “We Are Legion” on the 10th December and are all very excited about getting it out to you all to play. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/96c2c66c18b96746428611da8e1be0eb366cfd25.png I wanted to answer some of the questions that players in the community have been asking about the new DLC. I find that it's a fine balance of giving information, but not wanting to spoil the story or the experience. As the new DLC is story based, in the same vein of the first T-Force campaign, I would still want players to have surprises and shocks as they play. So, I will do my best not to give too much away (in the knowledge that I’m sure there will be streamers out there that will stream the game before you’ve played it - do try to avoid spoilers). Here we go: Why a Machine focussed DLC? As we have said, the new DLC is going to be Legion based, with you playing the side of the Machines. Why did we choose this, rather than just continuing with the story in the main game? We saw a lot of community comments early in the game's life-cycle about “Wouldn’t it be great to play as the Machines!”, and early on decided that we would like to provide that too, but to an extreme. So, the path of the first DLC was formed. Will there be more human campaigns? Yes indeed. The plan is, as always, to see the journey from the first game story through to where we see the future war in the Dark Fate movie, with the Resistance fighting Rev 7’s & 8’s (and getting their asses kicked), but eventually, getting to a point where they are hopefully ‘winning the war’. This will see more advanced human tech and equipment (hovering drop ships, augmented resistance fighters like Grace, etc), and more advanced Legion units (Rev 7’s splitting themselves and morphing bladed weapons and tentacles). We plan continuing the story of Alex Church as he helps bring the Resistance together, as well as bringing in other forces to join, from both internal (and external) of the US. I guess the question is also, “Will there be more ‘Legion focussed’ campaigns?”. I can answer that by saying, if you enjoy “We Are Legion”, then there would definitely be the option of more similar campaigns in the future. If everybody hates it, then maybe not. Are we getting new Legion Units? This is the most asked question since the DLC was announced. Well, there are new units in the game, but these are primarily given to other factions (mainly the Integrators, as many sharp eyed players may have seen, in the gameplay reveal, the Integrators are sporting new weapon platforms). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/694e586c0cc46a794530cf73403c5471b14955c7.pngIntegrator Armored Carrier with Legion plasma weapon {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41646712/8abd2fd77c05a1b1795ef9e92bbbd6206ee1fbf3.pngIntegrator Platform: A Legion Hunter Platform, converted to manual control and mounted on a semi-trailer w...Demo is available againOct 29, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsWe’re excited to announce that a free demo for Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance is once again available on Steam, offering a thrilling glimpse into this gritty, fast-paced RTS. Update v1.04.995.1Aug 28, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi everyone, There is a new Terminator update available. This should fix some issues related to the new two maps that some players have been experiencing. Here is the small Changelog: On the Canal map, some buildings that were impossible to enter have been fixed. The rest of such buildings act as decorations - their design has been slightly changed to make this more obvious. On the Island map, a building where squads could descend under the landscape has been fixed. On the Island map, path issues on some stairs have been fixed. In the Nueva Tortuga mission, the difficulty of the duel with the squad of furies has been reduced. Increased the number of slots in the last reinforcement of the Final mission (Galveston) so that the player can call all of their units.
