The best knives in PC gaming historyJul 17, 2019 - PC GamerA knife is an embarassing backstab, located deep behind enemy lines, to demonstrate just how much better you are at a particular shooter than your helpless prey. A knife is an aesthetic signifier, letting the rest of the party in an RPG understand that you'll be the one skulking around in the shadows scoring crits with each ambush. A knife is a backup hail mary when the durability bar reaches zero. A knife is the moment a Street Fighter match against Cody gets serious. A knife is the weapon you only see in cutaway stealth-kill animations, as Ezio or Talion demonstrate the many ways to remove a brain from a body. Point being, knives are perhaps the most dynamic armament in video games. Assault rifles and rocket launchers essentially work the exact same way in most games, but knives can either be a last resort or the scariest thing in the world depending on the universe you're playing in. That's more than enough justification to celebrate 10 of the best knives in gaming history. Some quick housekeeping: Daggers are knives. Shivs are also knives. When in doubt on the sword/knife dichotomy, we generally aired on the side of the language in the name itself. (See: Monster Hunter World's fairly hefty "Hunter's Knife.") If you want to get into an ontological argument about what should and shouldn't be considered a knife, please meet me in the comments below, where we can hash things out or stage a dramatic switchblade fight on a bridge. Dual Hidden Blades - Assassin's Creed 2 With the first Assassin's Creed, the big stunners were the crowd tech, the climbing system, and the undeniable cool factor of jumping off a ledge onto a guard with a wrist blade shiv to the neck. Assassin's Creed 2 flirted with edgelord territory by letting you wield not just one but two wrist blades, but in the end it just worked, perfecting the series' defining weapon. It's just such a simple pleasure, walking between two guards and giving them a simultaneous neck tickle.  Butterfly Knife - Team Fortress 2  This is the single reason your Team Fortress comps constantly get stuffed with too many Spies. Simply put, there are few better sensations in FPS than the disguise/backstab tandem. It's worth it, even if you only pull it off once every three billion tries.  Twin Daggers - Dead Cells The first time Dead Cells truly resonated with me was when I picked up my first set of Twin Daggers, which let me slice-and-dice through the Toxic Sewers with unbelievable ease, in a way that seemed natural with the rest of the game's incredible napalm-inked Blade Runner aesthetic. I can't be the only one, right?  Hunter's Knife - Monster Hunter World You could set off into the jungle with heavy bowguns, or arcane charge swords, or claymores big enough to make Cloud Strife himself blush. Or, you could be a real mensch, and take on the wilds with nothing more than a meaty knife and an iron shield....RGL.gg Traditional Sixes Season 6Jun 12, 2019 - TF2 Blog The largest competitive League in North America is about to get a bit bigger. The longest running format in competitive TF2 history will have a new home this Summer. RGL.gg is starting up a traditional 6v6 on July 23rd. We are happy to announce that we are expecting a prize pool of $8,000 and already have a starting Invite team list of Froyotech, Ascent, Ford Gaming, Kings Crew, Dunk Masters, and more... But don't worry, you don't have to play against Froyotech. We are expecting to have 5-6 divisions based on skill. So everyone can play in a match which is fair and competitive. Doesn't matter if you're brand new to competitive TF2 or a seasoned veteran. Everyone has a place in our league! For players who are playing in our Open division (players who are newer to comp), that division is completely free to play! For all of the divisions above, they all will have a prize pool with a reasonable division entry fee. You can find more information about that on our registration page. Open will play once a week on Wednesday nights and most other divisions will play twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you need help finding a team, go to our registration page and click on the tab "Need help finding a team?" for information on how to find a team to play with. The Sixth season of Prolander will be concluding Sunday night at 9:30pm Eastern. Cat Noises is the current reigning champions of Prolander from Season five, but Froyotech is back and looking to have the crown return to their head again. These teams met earlier in the season on borneo in, arguably, one of the best regular season matches in tf2 history. (You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3rIyROpzgE) Every round was so competitive and close, with victories, at times, coming in the last moments of the game. This was the first time that a Froyotech team was defeated, ever, in a Prolander match. However, this is not a one map series. Cat Noises will need to win two of the three maps to be able to keep their spot on the top. That'll be a tall order with how well Froyotech, lead by b4nny, adjusts their gameplay mid-series. During the semi-finals this season, Froyotech lost the first map against Prevail in a tightly contested 2-3 match. However, in the following maps Froyotech dominated Prevail on Ashville and Upward. So that is the question that will be asked this Sunday. Will Froyotech continue their streak of having never lost a Grand Finals in Prolander? Or will Cat Noises be able to gain another victory over Froyotech to win in back to back seasons? Find out this Sunday at 9:30 pm Eastern on http://twitch.tv/RGLgg You can also subscribe to our youtube channel to watch the VOD if you cannot see the match live.
