Deciding What to Adapt First When it came to deciding which expansion from 4th Edition we wanted to bring over to 5th Edition first, we wanted to make sure we made the best choice possible for us as developers, and for you, our players. With 16 expansions to choose from, we had a lot of different elements to consider! Thanks to 10 years of people playing Talisman: Digital Edition, we’ve got a ton of information about how players tend to play Talisman, the expansions they most often turn on/off during a game and much more beyond that. We also knew that certain expansions would take longer to implement in 5th Edition than others, so the complexity of the mechanics in the expansion was something we considered too - for example, implementing The Clockwork Kingdom and its crafting system into Talisman: Digital 5th Edition would be a much bigger undertaking than adding The Sacred Pool. After looking at all our options, we settled on starting with The Reaper for a multitude of reasons. First of all, it’s a relatively simple expansion, from a mechanics point of view. It doesn’t add anything overly unique to the game aside from The Reaper himself, instead building upon the kind of mechanics already present in the base game. Instead of adding new mechanics, it instead adds balance to the adventure deck enhancing the base Talisman experience. Secondly, we found that it is one of the most commonly enabled expansions among Talisman: Digital Edition players, even when players only enable a handful of expansions. Not only that, but across the different demographics we sort our players into (solo, online players, regular playgroups etc.), The Reaper saw consistently high usage across all of them. Also, The Reaper was the first ever expansion we released for Talisman: Digital Edition all the way back in 2014, so it felt a bit poetic coming back to it as our first remastered expansion for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition! This isn’t going to be a simple case of swapping out artwork and updating some rules though, as we’re going to be bringing a wide range of overhauls and new features to the game, alongside adapting all the changes and updates brought with the physical 5th Edition. Over the 10+ years since we originally launched Talisman: Digital Edition here on Steam, the game has gone on to become a favourite for millions of players across the globe. We’re hoping that making the base game of Talisman: Digital Edition free-to-play will introduce the game to a whole new wave of future Talisman fans. We’re rolling out this announcement to make sure we you all an advanced warning that this change is going to happen. If you’ve already bought the game on Steam within the last week, you can automatically refund it via Steam Support, for example! We also figured that a lot of you would have questions about this change, so we’ve put together a comprehensive FAQ that should hopefully answer any questions you might have! If anything hasn’t been covered, I'll be in the comments here on Steam replying, and you can reach out to us on all the different places we are online! Talisman: Digital Edition - Free to Play FAQ Why are you doing this? Talisman: Digital Edition has been out for more than 10 years at this point, and over the years we’ve occasionally offered the game for free - either through giveaways or temporary free-to-keep periods on mobile. We’ve also had a close look at how players tend to play Talisman: Digital Edition, and we think that lowering the barrier to entry for the base game will bring in a whole new wave of players, and leave us in a better position to support Talisman going forward. What changes can I expect to see once Talisman: Digital Edition is free-to-play? Very little! We might make a bit more use out of the news section on the main menu to direct you towards cool stuff we’re working on here at Nomad Games, but other than that the Talisman: Digital Edition experience is going to stay the same as it was (toads and all)! ːTalProToadː What features/content will be available for free, and what will I need to buy? You’ll be able to play with the Talisman: Digital Edition base game, and we’re not going to put anything behind a paywall that was previously already in the base game. So you’ll still be able to play online, single-player against AI and access your Nomad Account. You'll also still be able to play with your friends, so if you've got buddies who've never experienced the joys of Talisman - now they've got no excuse! Will there be any in-game advantages for players who previously purchased Talisman? Absolutely not. As random as Talisman can be, it’s important that everyone is treated fairly and have exactly the same odds of success or failure. This applies to dice rolls, card draws and everything else in the game. No player will ever be given an advantage over another in Talisman: Digital Edition, no matter if they’ve previously purchased the game or are a free-to-play player, or for any other reason. Check out the full list below: Fixed a crash that was caused by clicking on the Omen Tracker icon when there's was no current omen Fixed a crash that would happen at the end of round when Kallind was discarding Adventure cards from the board Fixed a crash caused by there being no valid player when evaluating whether any spell could be cast at the beginning of a turn Fixed a potential crash when the game tries to get the Strength/Craft value for a card that's not an Enemy Fix for a crash caused by the Shapeshifter using their ability against a ghost, then winning their battle at the Crown of Command (talk about specific! 👻) Fixed a crash that would sometimes happen when trying to view all cards on a particular location Previously, you'd sometimes be able to join greyed-out lobbies that you shouldn't have been able to join if you clicked fast enough. We've now made it so you can't join those lobbies, no matter how fast you think your clicking skills are. Fixed a crash caused by stealing things from inside something else. e.g. Stealing from within a Bag Of Carrying. (Turns out stealing from pocket dimensions causes universal collapses, who knew?) Fixed a crash caused by displaying a log message after something has been stolen from a player, when the original player who had their card stolen is no longer in the game We've updated the AI so that it should no longer use its last life to gain gold. Money is important, but it's not THAT important Previously, Thieving Piskies would be removed from the board after a battle. We've updated our Piskie trapping technology, so they will now stick around after a battle Fixed a crash caused by trying to bring a player back into the game after they had died, when they had trophies Fixed the 'End of Days' cards not being properly added to the board when loading a save Fixed the Ageless Talisman not buffing player stats correctly Fixed the Jin Blooded being able to incorrectly bind spells cast by Ascendant Divine Fix a crash caused by switching to view the inner region in the Challenge For The Crown ending Fix a crash caused by moving a Terrain card that has a Denizen on it Fixed the AI not using the 'Amateur Inventor' card properly Removed the infinite loop in the Battle Royale ending caused by the loser having 'Flail of Blood' And that's it! Thanks for your patience while we worked on this patch, and for supporting Talisman! ːheartːTalisman: Digital Edition Patch - 05/06/2023Jun 5, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi Talisman fans! ːBlueTalismanː Today we rolled out another patch for Talisman: Digital Edition across all platforms. General Fixes: If you quit and resumed the game, you were prevented from using spells against the Lord of Darkness on the Treasure Chamber space. As much as the Lord of Darkness would have liked to keep this bug in, we’ve now fixed it so you can properly cast spells on him. Occasionally, the game would hang and get stuck when there was a Stand Off during the Battle Royale ending. This has now been fixed, so your battle royales can continue with no interruptions. We fixed an issue where finishing an online game would cause a “Lost Connection to Server” message to pop up. We’ve also fixed Steam Cloud saves not syncing correctly - your saves should all now save to the cloud properly, so you can continue your games on a different PC. Previously, the reward for the 'Defeat 100 Demons' challenge was giving people the wrong title. It has been fixed to be the correct title, so demons will now be appropriately intimidated by you. Crash Fixes: We’ve rolled out some more crash bug fixes in this patch, including: A crash caused by using immobility and spell call when playing with the Sprite character. A crash that happened when you pressed the ‘Delete Account’ button when you didn’t have a Nomad Account. An occasional crash when reloading player account avatar images.
