Fullbright Presents TOILET SPIDERS has hit 1.0!Nov 27, 2024 - Community Announcementshttps://clan.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/images/32980586/ab17c9dfba6fcef29b273a16517cead18719e9b6.png They're out of Early Access, y'all... Since the initial Early Access release, the first entry in the Fullbright Presents series of short, strange games now features a new intro and ending sequence, new notes to find and Achievements to achieve, plenty of bugfixes and performance improvements, new spooky scare moments, more usability and controller features, and... Commentary Mode?! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3098700/Fullbright_Presents_TOILET_SPIDERS/ I'm excited to bring this weird game out of Early Access with the 1.0 Update. Here's the latest in Version 1.0: Randomized Scripted Scare Moments: The spiders have escaped their toilets... Players have requested more life to the facility in between bathrooms, so as of v1.0, you may now encounter unexpected events during your playthrough. Keep your eyes peeled... Along with the controller vibration that was added in the last update, there is now DualShock 4/DualSense controller light support on desktop! If you have a PlayStation controller handy, give it a go. "Resource Peek" ability added! I got tired of having to pause the game to check my light bulb/flashbang count when entering a bathroom, so now you can hold R1/Tab at any time to "peek" at what you have in your pockets. Super rare spider kill variant, by request (of a five-year-old.) Exactly one out of the 100 spiders present in the facility has now learned karate. Commentary Mode! Like all Fullbright games, Toilet Spiders now has a dedicated Commentary Mode. Just toggle it on in the options and a selection of Commentary icons will appear throughout the facility. Activating them will give you a little insight into the inspirations for the game, how it was made, how it works under the hood, and other little bits and bobs! It was fun to make and I hope you'll enjoy learning a little bit more about where the game came from. I mean, Half-Life 2 just did it, why not us? Oh, and there's a new Achievement for finding all the Commentary nodes in one run as well. https://clan.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/images/32980586/df8ac0e3af0553c285321831a62f0222db94d565.jpg From this point forward Toilet Spiders will be in maintenance mode-- so if you run into any major bugs, let me know in the Steam discussion forums. And if any new translation languages come in, I'll add those in an update as well! (If you'd like to do a translation into your language and be credited in the game, take a look in the Steam discussion forum for instructions.) Alright, thank you Volunteers-- and good luck!A New Fullbright Game is Available... Right Now!!Oct 17, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsIt’s in Early Access for just $5.99— with a launch discount of 17% off, and an additional discount if you complete the Fullbright Collection bundle! In the Summer issue of the Fullbright Newsletter (which you should sign up for if you haven’t!), I introduced the concept of Fullbright Presents: an ongoing series of small, strange, lo-fi games I'm producing as a solo developer, to be released into Steam Early Access as they roll off the production line. And now, just a few short months later, here it is! This isn't a super-rough alpha Early Access launch either, the game is actually a pretty polished version of itself. There's a little more in the way of features and content to add, balance to improve, and bugs you'll help me find that I'll need to fix, but really at its heart this is the game as it's intended to be played. So, what is this game you might ask? Perhaps the real place to begin with that question is: what is a Fullbright game? With Gone Home and Tacoma, and even Minerva's Den, which is the proto-Fullbright game in many ways, these games at their core have been about humanity: the human side of the characters' experience, understanding who they are as people, what events in their lives shaped them, and in the end how their experiences might relate to our own lives, outside the game. Whether it's Charles Milton Porter's attempts to overcome immeasurable loss only to have to learn to accept and move on, Sam Greenbriar's struggles to reconcile her own identity with the expectations and prejudices of her peers and her family, or the crew of Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma banding together in the face of impossible odds and learning to rely on each other in spite of their many differences— these are games about people first, and through learning about them, perhaps we learn just a little bit about ourselves as well. Anyway, the new game is called TOILET SPIDERS, enjoy! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3098700/Fullbright_Presents_TOILET_SPIDERS/ You may be asking yourself: “What?” And to you, my answer is: Toilet. Spiders. https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/32980586/90e95a72974f315c5a2bef53c6db632769404a2b.png Truly excellent cover art and logo by Markus Bülow In brainstorming ideas for Fullbright Presents entries I've gone far afield, sketching up concepts for cinematic vignettes, digital travelogues, job simulators, single-room immersive sims, and yes, one darkly comedic, play-the-odds, randomization-based arachnid-centric non-combat survival horror game. But Toilet Spiders didn't come strictly from my own imagination: my five-year-old daughter Juniper actually gave me the idea, when one day she speculated about what if a spider jumped out of the toilet and scared grandma— and of course my immediate response was, well I could make a video game out of that. Now the game is out, and if you're able to complete it, you'll see that Juniper gets the first line in the credits. The idea for the game ended up aligning with a number of other...Annapurna might be entering their own acquisition age after buying Gone Home, Neon White and Cocoon co-devsNov 17, 2023 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunBeloved indie outlet Annapurna have made their first-ever acquisition in the video game space, snapping up the studio responsible for co-developing a number of their biggest hits. This time, Tacoma is up for grabs, the interstellar sleuth ’em up from the studio behind Gone Home. Isometric hack ‘n’ slasher Next Up Hero is free too. The pair of ’em are yours to keep if you grab them by this time next week, at which point they’ll go back up to £15 a pop. (more…) Here are next week's free games from the Epic Games StoreJul 16, 2020 - PCGamesNYou've probably heard by now that the Epic Games Store has gotten into the habit of giving away free games every week or so, and with the occasional hiccup here and there, this has been going on for about a year and a half now. Starting today, you can get the excellent Torchlight II free of charge, which means we now get a peek at the games that will be on offer next week: Tacoma and Next Up Hero. Tacoma is a forensic sci-fi adventure from Fullbright, the studio that made Gone Home. In Tacoma, you explore a empty space station, searching for clues about what happened to its missing crew. Over the course of the adventure, you'll learn about their private conversations and communiques, their inner lives, and what wound up on happening that led to the station being abandoned. It's not a long game, but it's beautifully realised and quickly draws you into the lives of its ghostly characters, who you'll mostly hear in echoes and footage reconstructed from surveillance cameras and other data. It's certainly worth a look, and at the low, low cost of completely free, it's a steal. Read the rest of the story... Comment with your reasons why, and next week it may be struck off. May day! May day! It’s May Day, get it? I constructed this list of the 7 best distress calls in videogames so I could make this joke, and I refuse to back down now. Even if the 1st of May is associated with pagan spring festivities, and nothing at all to do with things going badly wrong in space or at sea. Even if the piece of radio lingo “mayday” has more to do with the French term “m’aider” than the one day per annum on which Morris dancers are allowed out of their cages. I refuse to acknowledge the longwindedness of this joke, and invite you to read this list article with a similar bullheaded attitude. You’ll enjoy it more that way. (Warning: some spoilers for the games mentioned.) (more…) Big patch, small update!Dec 19, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHi there! If you already own Tacoma, you may notice a large patch from Steam today. But, despite the patch size, it should keep everything pretty much exactly as it was: we've updated the game to be compliant with MacOS Catalina's new security requirements, which required upgrading the game to a new version of Unity-- which means practically every file got touched in the process, causing a large patch size on Steam. But, everything should work the same, just maybe running a little smoother, with a few bugs fixed that we found along the way, and better compatibility for Xbox and DualShock controllers. If you see any issues with the new version, please let us know on the tech support subforum! https://steamcommunity.com/app/343860/discussions/5/Edge of a DecadeNov 8, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsGone Home makes Edge Magazine's list of "The 12 Games that Defined the 2010s!" https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/32980586/c4a5b20291dd7259fd592998de8c8bdedef149e8.jpg 2019 is coming to a close, and with it the end of a decade. It's from Fullbright, the developer of Gone Home, and that pedigree shines through: "While a lot of sci-fi from that era has a cold, nihilistic view of mankind’s place in the universe, Tacoma has a heart," Andy K. wrote in his 84/100 review. "As a game about piecing together a story, it’s immensely rewarding." If that sort of critical applause doesn't convince you to try it, maybe this will: It's free right now on the Humble Store. Until March 24 (or while supplies last), just go here, click where it tells you, and they'll hook you up. Interestingly, while most Humble giveaways come as Steam keys, this one is DRM-free, meaning you'll download, install, and run it as a standalone program. You might even want to burn it to a DVD. Just like the old days! Oxenfree and Tacoma are free todayMar 21, 2019 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunNot every problem in games needs to be solved by shooting, stabbing or going very fast. Sometimes you just need to stop, listen and talk things over, like in Oxenfree and Tacoma, two lovely story-driven games that you can snag free right now and keep forever. Contemporary teen ghost story Oxenfree by Night School is the current fortnightly giveaway over on the Epic store, full of sass and supernatural weirdness. Sci-fi mystery Tacoma by Fullbright is a little more grounded and quiet, letting you explore the lives and recorded dialogues of a space station’s crew after some manner of space-disaster. Grab them on Epic and Humble respectively today. (more…) Gone Home dev's sci-fi narrative adventure Tacoma is currently free on Humble StoreMar 21, 2019 - EurogamerShould you be in the market for some video game amusement this weekend, and are hankering for the very specific combination of critically acclaimed sci-fi narrative adventure that is also free, then you might like to know that developer Fullbright's enjoyable Tacoma is currently available for zero pee on the Humble Store. Fullbright, in case it slipped your mind, first turned heads in 2013 with its spookily atmospheric family-drama-meets-house-nosy Gone Home, and Tacoma sees the developer expanding on that game's exploratory storytelling with a bunch of new ideas. And also space ships. Tacoma is still very much in the realm of walking simulator, so your mileage may vary, but it's a little more hands-on than Gone Home. As you explore the game's deserted space station setting, the lives of its wonderfully defined crew - and the mystery surrounding them - unfold through a mix of environmental storytelling and audio-visual logs - the latter playing out across different physical spaces within the ship, encouraging you to wind back and forth and move around to eavesdrop on these last recorded conversations. I liked it a lot! Read more The Joy Of Tacoma s recorded conversationsJan 29, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Tacoma is a game about a world that never stops watching. Corporations have achieved vertical integration on a near-total level, functioning as distinct economies running on contract workers and loyalty points. You go to the Amazon school, you work at your Amazon job, you get paid in Amazon points. The characters of the game are so consumed by the anxiety of keeping up with this treadmill that they don t have the time to think about what actions they could collectively take to improve their material conditions, let alone act on them. And of course their every waking (and sleeping) moment is logged on company servers by an inescapable Augmented Reality surveillance system.
