Update 1.1 Teaser & Beta AnnouncementMay 31, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHey pilots! Hope you are all doing well! It's been exactly 1 month since our full release and we've been so happy to see the response from you all! A lot of gratitude for all the feedback and reviews you have left us, they've helped tremendously. Following that, we're excited to announce that the game is doing well enough for us to continue improving it and adding more content with free updates, starting with the 1.1 update coming in two weeks! Update 1.1: Coming Soon! We've been pretty busy during release month fixing a lot of the major bugs and crashes that have been reported, but now that things have stabilized a bit better we will be slowling down our rate of patching to work on bigger content updates. Here are some of the planned new content that will be available in the 1.1 update: Sandbox Settings: We've added a bunch of customization features since release based on player feedback (such as save-scum mode for example). To expand on that, I've decided to create a whole menu for more customization of the game. Included in the new sandbox settings will be new options inspired by player feedback such as: - Add more granular post-Apocalypse challenges with smaller steps in between each difficulty. - Post-Apoc no longer shortens each act. - Ban specific bosses from appearing (great for achievement hunting!) - More... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43223353/61080667b692c6d08974dee967ad096b3e1a7d2b.png Did someone say they want more ascensions?? Just to make it clear, the DEFAULT difficulties will not change, but we will be adding new options to customize the difficulty for players. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43223353/bd8b1e180cb8bae9296f4e53ddbe6c65fdbbb33d.png I'm personally pretty open to allow players to play the game the way they want to play, so if it's not too hard to implement I don't mind adding new options based on suggestions! I should warn that the new card pack might be based on a potentially controversial mechanic haha, but at least with the Sandbox Settings you'll be able to ban specific packs from appearing too, so if you don't like the new pack you can disable them from in-game! Beta Build We will be opening up a beta build (probably on Monday) to start playtesting the 1.1 update. More information about that will be shared on our Discord and QQ groups. The beta will also only be available in English and Chinese. Starting from now, we will also likely be pushing updates and the usual patches to the beta first, before updating the main build. Will update when we figure out what's going on. Sorry about that! UPDATE - Update is live again! More bug fixes! And we've reworked some of the Hemophage as well. Hemophage 2.0 Based on feedback we're smoothening out some of the awkward parts of the Hemophage, and allowing more options to deal with it so it's not a pain to fight. No longer becomes Immune while splitting (you can keep hitting it with repeated cards to deal more damage, but it will split into more Hemocytes) In the "Final phase", no longer recombines with Hemocytes and only keeps 1 HP. Added more text for describe the Hemocytes. Reduced total HP again. Delayed attacks (like Titan Rocket or Auto-Bombs) now correctly trigger before the Hemophage absorbs its Hemocytes. Other: Fixed issue with our save backup system, wasn't working for certain OS versions. Fixed bug where you reload into an empty hand Fixed bug where some boss timers don't show up Repeated self-drop cards now keep their rarity (like Claw Trap) Pilot Album now unlocks correctly with Daily or Challenge wins Fixed Sygyzy counting twice for Xenn's Relic Fixed a couple softlock involving skipping cutscenes Fixed a softlock involving pressing mutliple buttons at once during unlocks Fixed Old Comet, now doesn't trigger when played. Fixed bug where Nessie stops moving. Nessie now heals the tile directly in front of it each turn on Phase 2. Fixed bugs where Nessie's attack isn't correctly displayed when rerolling during an attack Fixed generation error where you reroll into the same encounters at the start of an act. Fixed True Ending working with dailies or challenge on Mac Fixed Boss room not appearing if you have too many relics Fixed Eclipse not ending when there are no more waves or enemies. We're almost done with all the major reported bugs! There's a few things we're struggling with (looking at you performance issues), but we're making progress. Save File Backup System: We implemented a backup system that will backup your progress (unlocks, achievements, etc), so that if you lose your main save file, the game will automatically grab from the backup file and restore your progress. This is in anticipation of enabling Steam Cloud saves for Mac, because Steam WILL delete your save files without warning. In 1 or 2 weeks we will enable Steam Cloud saves on Mac, so if you are on a Mac, you should definitely play at least once on this patch to make sure your unlock progress will be saved. You will likely lose your run history and any on-going run, so please do backup those if they matter to you! We've tackled many of the easier "game-breaking" bugs and crashes so now we're onto the harder ones. We're aware of some screen resolution issues, lag and stuttering / freezes, those will take some time to solve - sorry about that, but we are investigating. Notable changes in this update include: Losing during Act 4 now counts as a Victory Added a toggle for "Pause in Background" (default is to not pause now) Shelled's Immunity now only triggers during your turn. Added an Cancel prompt on the top right screen for when you are stuck in a selection and must cancel. Much Love, The Pengonauts Team 1.0.4 - Roxy's RevengeMay 5, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsFirst up, a warning: IF YOU ARE PLAYING ON MAC, BACKUP YOUR SAVE FILES. We will be adding Steam Cloud support to Mac soon, but are unsure how it will affect the game if you played on multiple devices. Our apologies if something happens to them! For anyone looking for save files for the MAC version. It's at "/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/com.Pengonauts.StarVaders". --- Hope you all had a great weekend! Got some great feedback from a very wide range of types of players, they've all been super useful! We're only 3 people on the team (2 programmers and 1 artist), so it will take some time to fix everything, but we're hard at work! Here are some of the notable changes in this patch: Roxy's New Starting Deck 5x Shift 2x Fire! 2x Triple Fire! 1x Nova Bomb Roxy is the weakest pilot on higher difficulties, but her deck is great to introduce the game with - so what I did was keep the tutorial deck the same, but changed her deck after the tutorial run. Gunner struggles a lot because of their weaker movement, so I brought Triple Fire! into her starting deck as an extra AOE option that can target further invaders. Vengoid+ Vengoid+ now moves erratically, instead of giving Shields. Vengoid Plus is one of the hardest invaders to deal with in Post-Apocalypse +, there's not a lot of time nor leeway to deal with them and the Shield makes it much more tedious to fight against. Shield was a boring ability anyway! Erratic movement now challenges the player in a slightly different way while still keeping the identity. Hemophage Hemophage fight has been quite confusing and difficult for a lot of players, and a very long fight as well. We've cut down their health pool, updated their description, and added more visual indicators to be more clear that the "purple" hemocytes should be destroyed since those are the ones that will channel doom. To balance this change, we've also shortened the turn limit. True Ending Fixes and Improvements The Overseer fight for the True Ending can occasionally be a big pain point for players, particularly if it's the first time they encounter it - it doesn't help that the transitions are kinda badly implemented timing-wise. I've made changes to address some of the issues: (from patch 1.0.3) You now draw 3 cards and reset energy on phase 1 -> 2 transition. On each phase transition, you now keep all your puppets. (If they were in the "head" zone, they move to the bottom side of the grid) The "Assist" cards that drop as pickups to help on the final turn have a glowing visual indicator now. I've added more descriptions for the final phase for the Hearts and the Blooms. Phase transition's timing has been improved so that you don't get screwed if you overheat / use an end-of-turn attack to trigger the phase transition. Other changes: Noel's Novalanche now costs 1. Added backup loggerdata in case of steam cloud issues. Changed order of Act 3 invader unlocks for smoother complexity ramp (Void Rifts before Pulsars) Fixed Magical Gun not...1.0.3 - Day 2 PatchMay 2, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHeya, another day, another patch. We really appreciate all the bug reports and the feedback that's been coming in! Some notable changes in this update include: A new Save Scum extras option that makes it so when you exit and resume an encounter, it starts from start of the fight instead of where you left off. Overseer Phase 2 transition now resets your energy and draws 3 cards for you Tweaked some of the encounter algorithm to create less "really bad" encouters. Other: Fixed gamepad input resetting when rewinding Fixed a Nessie task engine crash when it eats a bomb in phase 2 Fixed Chain Lightning and Translocate, now playable without summons Fixed Salve causing everything to become free when combined with Cold Star Fixed not having any rewards anymore when using Infinite Rerolls to reroll rewards for a long time Fixed some visual bugs in the glossary involved artifact & their completion stars Fixed a few localization issues Fixed Red Brand showing up in double artifact reward Attempted fix on inconsistency in achievement for not picking up artifacts Hypermode Shun now correctly starts with 2 Battery. If you are still in a run and it is still not working you might need to delete that run from the main menu (or abandon the run). New Gameplay Options Added a button in the settings to unlock only pilots and the daily run Added an Extras option to made Chrono Rewinds during the encounter NOT reshuffle your deck. Added an Extras option to give infinite Chrono Tokens. Other Added an option to remove the "F2 Bug Report" prompt Buffed Noel, she now starts with an Artillery Fire! Pilot Bio Name: Sura Place of Birth: An ungoverned corner of earth Bio: Garu and Sura grew up in a poor family, in an ungoverned corner of the world. Both were born with a major defect - Sura was born blind, and Garu mute and deaf. As a result, their family quickly judged that they would be more of a burden than a boon, and so the two were abandoned at a young age and left to fend for themselves in the world. To make a living for themselves, they became performers. Their trust was so strong, that together they could accomplish feats that others could not even with all of their senses. Their talents were so impressive that they were eventually noticed by the Mech forces, and chosen to become pilots in the fight against the invaders. Sura's unique Artifacts allow her to harness Stinger cards alongside her Keeper abilities. Having unique artifacts and cards for each pilot really helps build diversity during your runs. Sura has some interesting cards like Hydrate which reduces the cooldown of each Spell by 1. This gets +1 repeat for each Flow card played this turn. Compared to the Gunner and Stinger, the Keeper plays differently on the battlefield --Instead of a typical Mech, the Keeper possesses the entities it can summon! Pilot Bio Name: Iris Place of Birth: Irkutsk Zone 3-LR Bio: Thrust into a motherly role from a young age, Iris grew up as one of the older kids in an orphanage. She spent her days helping the orphanage's director, a kind man named Qasim, and playing with the younger children there. However, one child's anger resulted in a devastating explosion causing a huge fire. Qasim rushed in to save as many children as he could but found himself buried under the debris. Iris tried her best to lift him out but wasn't able to save him. He ordered her to leave him and look after the children. In the aftermath of the accident, Iris is covered in burns but still alive. Tasked with the responsibility of protecting the other children, and frustrated with her own powerlessness to save Qasim, Iris makes the decision to sacrifice her human body in exchange for a robotic one. She lost the ability to feel from her prosthetic limbs, but in return has gained superhuman dexterity and strength. Dark Medal - At the start of each fight, permanently add a Chant to your campaign deck Wild Magick - After you cast a Spell, reduce its cooldown by 1. Then, destroy another random Spell on cooldown. Iris' artifacts are all about channelling her energies as a powerful spellcaster! Having unique artifacts and cards for each pilot really helps build diversity during your runs. Iris has some interesting cards like Consecrate which has her destroy the topmost Spell, but draw +2 cards and receive +2 Mana the next turn. Pilot Bio Name: Hali Place of Birth: A small coastal town. Bio: Hali was born in a small coastal village. The village didn’t have many other children, so Hali often found herself playing alone in the ocean, making friends with the denizens of the sea. As such, the ocean became a source of comfort and a place of escape for Hali. Whenever she felt frustrated, angry, or sad -- the ocean was always there. A safe place. A place for her to escape from her worries, a place that did not judge her. As an adult, Hali took it upon herself to protect the ocean that she loved so deeply. She dedicates her life to protecting the reef from any threats that face it. Her village is too small to come under government rule. As such, they are self-sustaining and do not have the same level of support and regulations as the rest of the modern world. Bio: Kaia’s home is Atelane, a man-made ocean city located in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. The people of Atelane spend most of their time under the surface of the water exposed to blue-tinted sunlight, which has caused them to develop a slightly blue skin color. When she was still young, Kaia discovered stories about pirates, freely sailing the seas and going on fantastical adventures as they pleased. She was fascinated -- all she’d ever known was Atelane, and so she envied the pirates who had the freedom to explore the ends of the Earth without worries or constraints. Kaia spent her teenage years with a deep longing for an adventure outside of the confines of Atelane. She would stand atop the city’s ocean level observation platforms and longingly gaze at the empty ocean, dreaming of the magnificent and diverse cityscapes of the world that she had only ever seen on screens. Pilot Bio Name: Shun Place of Birth: Earth's largest metropolis, Shin-Tokyo Bio: Shun was born into one of the richest families in Shin-Tokyo. His parents run a megacorp in the city. As a result, he had a relatively easy and carefree life. He spent most of his time gaming -- because of his family’s status, he never felt the drive to do anything more meaningful with his life. That all changed when he turned 18, when it was discovered he had a rate, incurable heart disease. This diagnosis sent him into a depressive state, and he would rarely leave his hospital room. He is granted a second chance by a medical breakthrough: the Medusa. The Medusa uses electrical impulses from jellyfish organs to deliver the right biological signatures to the heart. Pilot Bio Name: Zeke Place of Birth: Earth's largest metropolis, Shin-Tokyo Bio: Zeke is the brains behind the first Gunner Mecha and is the son of one of earth's leading nuclear researchers. To the world, Zeke's father was the pioneer behind nuclear reactor miniaturization, a technology which enabled the manufacturing of mechas among other things, but to Zeke, he was too focused on his work and often absent. Holding his father in the highest regard, Zeke was desperate for his approval and, thanks to his father's affluence, enrolled in the most prestigious academies. During his time at university, Zeke created a device he dubbed 'The Machine' enabling mechas to repair themselves by siphoning undamaged components to repair damaged parts. Despite his academic prowess, Zeke is yet to receive his father's approval, and has buried himself in his work until he achieves his aim. For Zeke, excellence isn’t just a goal -- it’s a requirement. Like father, like son. Pilot Bio Name: Noel Place of Birth: Antarctic Settlement (Approximately 20km from Nuclear Crater) Bio: Despite living near the nuclear crater, a relic of the Extinction War, life was relatively worry-free for Noel and her younger sister, Eira. They were accustomed to seeing Mechas from an early age as they worked to insulate the colossal icebergs that the people of Antarctica called home. However, it wasn't long before a strange illness emerged. At first, the symptoms were hailed as the next stage in human evolution, allowing those afflicted to drain the heat from nearby objects with a simple gesture. But this supposed blessing wouldn't last forever. Over time, their bodies would be unable to retain heat, eventually freezing them where they stood. The unlucky ones affected became known as 'The Frozen'. Noel manifested her powers at 24 years old, just as she was finishing her studies in biomedical sciences. With her future being stolen from her, Noel struggled with her place in the world, resigning herself to her fate. It wasn't until her sister developed the same symptoms two years later that Noel dedicated whatever remaining time she has left to research her illness and find a solution. When the invasion began, Noel was prepared to defend her Antarctic homeland, but also had an ulterior motive to study the aliens in the hopes of finding something to help cure herself and her sister. Bring the Perma-Frost Noel's illness offers her a range of unique tactical moves on the battlefield. Ice projectiles have a devastating effect on enemy units with the added bonus of providing some home comforts from Noel's Antarctic homeland. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43223353/72ecb0b13b915763ba9cda3ff06fab9be6712382.png Perma-Frost - Your rightmost card is unburnt and becomes Frozen when your turn ends Cold Star - When the encounter begins, gives Frozen to 2 random cards in your hand. Your Frozen cards count as Burnt cards, and vice-versa. Iceberg - When your turn begins, make Frozen cards in your hand free. Frozen cards are Noel's specialty. They aren't discarded when a turn ends so can be queued up for maximum effect. Like with all our pilots, having unique artifacts and cards really helps build diversity during your runs.
