Stardew Valley: The Board Game goes back on sale on this weekNov 1, 2021 - PC GamerOn February 23, Stardew Valley: The Board Game was revealed to the world. On February 24, Stardew Valley: The Board Game completely sold out. Unsurprising, perhaps, considering the non-stop popularity of the idyllic farm-life sim, but still very disappointing for fans hoping to take a more analog journey through the valley... Unfortunately, the first batch went fast - but those that missed out on the initial run now have a second chance at acquiring the game, with orders re-opening this Wednesday. Online orders will once again only be available for shipping within the US, but Barone says he's teamed up with a number of distributors in the UK, the EU, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand this time around, and that copies will be available directly from local stores in these regions. "It's not possible for us to keep track of which stores specifically," he adds, "so the best way is to contact your local store and ask if they are carrying copies. For those within the US, the Stardew Valley board game will be available for purchase online from 12pm PST on Wednesday, 3rd November. Do note, however, that orders may not be delivered in time for Christmas given ongoing issues impacting shipping. But it's almost Halloween, and it's tough to imagine a better way to spend the holiday than surrounded by pleasant ghosts encouraging you to create delicious chocolate. Luckily, Stardew Valley modders have it covered. The Haunted Chocolatier mod by Edu Anttunes is available on Nexus Mods, and it will bring a bit of cocoa flavour to your farm. It introduces cocoa trees, and four new recipes: cooking chocolate, chocolate bars, white chocolate bars, and simple truffles. It also replaces a few bits of furniture so you can decorate your abode with ghosts and chocolate cauldrons. Not quite the full Haunted Chocolatier experience, but certainly a cute way to change up your Stardew Valley decor. The real Haunted Chocolatier will have you gathering ingredients in a fantasy world, using them to make fancy types of chocolate, and then selling the results at your chocolate shop - though the game's still early enough in development that the details might change. Haunted Chocolatier is in development, but don't expect to be playing it any time soon. The debut teaser trailer looks like it will scratch a whole lot of Stardew Valley itches, but instead of farming, you'll be gathering ingredients to make chocolate. Maybe even haunted ghost chocolate. It looks very much like Stardew Valley, but it appears to have a much greater focus on Zelda-style combat and overworld exploration. We see the lead character exploring a fantasy world through a mysterious portal, then apparently returning to a haunted castle to interact with characters and, er, make chocolate. Haunted Chocolatier is "evolving organically as I develop it, so I'm not sure where it will go," Barone explains in a blog post. "But at its core, the gameplay loop involves gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop. Of course, there's a lot more to the game than that, but I don't want to get too deep into at this early stage, partly because I don't want to be tied down to any particular concept of what the game is." We've been waiting for years to hear what Barone would work on next after spending so much time developing major free updates to his farm life simulation. Managing your energy levels in the chill farming simulator is central to the game's appeal of growing in harmony with your limits, and taking the time to cook a hearty meal pays off with more stamina than munching down a slab of corn. But what if you actually tried to cook Stardew Valley's meals in real life? It's more complicated than you might think. TikTok user The Queen of Sauce, or Ali, has already created 30 of Stardew Valley's food offerings, with another 50 to go. Speaking to GamesRadar, though, she reveals that the most challenging part so far isn't the sheer amount of recipes there are, but that some ingredients just don't exist, while others don't go together. Ali reveals that the Strange Buns have been the most challenging dish for her to recreate for those reasons. You've got to make them with periwinkle and void mayonnaise, and the latter doesn't really exist. The TikToker also has plans to re-imagine the recipe in time for Halloween to give it a much sweeter taste. Read the rest of the story... You come to Pelican Town not just to fix up your grandfather's old farm, but to rebuild your life into something more fulfilling and meaningful. Stardew Valley is, however, more than five years old. While the game gets an update here and there to keep it fresh, we like to check out what the modding community is getting up to keep the game vibrant. One of the more recent mods to capture our eye is xiddav's Little Red School House mod, which is also about rebuilding. This one adds an old, broken school to Pelican Town, which you can find near the playground. You'll need to take fixing it up into your own hands, though, by fulfilling the special orders board. You'll notice a woodpile near the ruined school, which is where you'll want to take the items needed for the special order. Once the school is complete, it'll hum with life. Penny, Jas, and Vincent will attend, though you won't see Leo just yet. Xiddav explains that they haven't met Leo in-game yet, so they don't want to spoil anything for themselves, which is fair! Oh, and perhaps most importantly, there's a class hamster called Russel. Read the rest of the story... It's only natural, then, that a modder adds a pinch of chaos every now and then. We once reported on a mod that adds a horde mode with homicidal scarecrows, but the most recent fan-made addition to catch our eye is more about arena-based combat. XxHarvzBackxX's Arena Challenges mod introduces a new location where you can go to defeat monsters for rewards - are you not entertained? The challenges range in difficulty but you'll be rewarded for your time and effort. The modder explains that you can find the arena by heading to a door in the mines. Once you enter, you'll be brought to a lobby of sorts. There you'll see a chap at a desk who will whisk you away to the arena after asking a slew of questions. If you complete the challenge, you'll get a reward that's proportional to the difficulty you selected. The modder doesn't give much away about what prizes are on offer, though they're "very valuable". Read the rest of the story... Stardew Valley sales have reached yet another massive milestone, as the farming RPG has surpassed 15 million copies sold. That's impressive enough, but perhaps the most notable part is that the game's success has not slowed down a bit - in fact, thanks to its continued releases on a wide variety of platforms, Stardew Valley has sold more in the last two years than any point before. PC players got Stardew Valley on February 26, 2016. The game was an instant hit, and sold one million copies in the space of two months. Console versions followed in late 2016, and the Switch port landed in October 2017. By January 2018, SuperData reported that the game had sold 3.5 million copies (via GamesBeat) - and that's before the iOS port launched later the same year. In January 2020, the official site was been updated to report that Stardew Valley has sold 10 million copies worldwide. Now, a year later, it's been updated again to report 15 million units sold. Once again, my childhood obsession with Harvest Moon 64 has been vindicated - yes, the world has at last seen that farming RPG games are good, actually. Read the rest of the story... It won't be Stardew Valley 2 or a farming game, but will be "kind of similar" and should be announced "fairly soon". However, don't expect to see another Stardew Valley update anytime soon as he's focused on this next game. Yesterday Barone and Zach "UnsurpassableZ" Hartman hosted the first official Stardew Valley Cup, all four hours of which can be seen on Twitch. At the end of the stream, Barone answered a number of questions from fans, and obviously, the topic of his new game came up. Barone doesn't go into too much detail, but it does give a clearer picture than fans have had since the game was announced in 2018. In terms of look, Barone confirms that "it's another kind of pixel-art game" with "a top-down perspective similar to Stardew Valley". He also admits that "in some ways, it is kind of similar to Stardew Valley," but adds that, gameplay-wise, "it's also not a farming game... it's something different." Read the rest of the story... And what Lightyear Frontier is missing in galaxy-spanning scale, it makes up for with Stardew Valley-style farming. Lightyear Frontier puts you on an alien planet with a mech suit you can use to tame the wilderness. You'll be able to cultivate crops and build a farm to protect your resources from weather effects and the ravages of the local wildlife - though it seems the creatures of this planet are herbivores, as they'll mostly be interested in eating your vegetables, not you. You can use the resources you harvest to upgrade your mech for further exploration on the planet. A host of alien ruins are around to discover, with an eons-old mystery there to drag you along for the ride - a ride you can enjoy in four-player co-op, as well. Read the rest of the story... Stardew Valley developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone popped up midway through tonight's showcase for a bit of a natter, confirming toward the end of the segment that his much-loved village life sim would be heading to Game Pass for PC and Xbox some time this autumn. Also still awaiting a Game Pass arrival date is the adorable Pupperazzi, a first-person photography game that - as you may have already surmised from its title - tasks players with taking cute snaps of (and petting!) canines as they go about their doggy lives in a colourful holiday paradise. We still don't know what's next for Stardew Valley, but during today's interview, Barone says "I could probably continue working on Stardew Valley forever, with the amount of ideas I have. I love the world. I love making it better. I feel like it's a never-ending thing I could do, to make it better. I just put those ideas in these updates and keep the game going, and it's been fun."
