Space sim Star Wars: Squadrons is indeed free-to-play as of now - but you better be quick, because it's only for the next 48 hours. Star Wars: Squadrons released in 2020 and was immediately lauded for being a fresh and enjoyable update of classic Star Wars sims like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and - erm - X-Wing vs TIE Fighter. Given that it's also one of the only triple-A Star Wars games to be released by EA - and that a sequel probably isn't coming anytime soon - it's good that Squadrons exists. Now anyone who doesn't own Star Wars: Squadrons - and didn't pick it up as part of an Amazon Prime Gaming deal in October - can now try the latest Star Wars space sim entirely for free on Steam (thanks VG247), although only for the next two days. Amazon has unveiled its October Prime games lineup, which is headed up by Motive Studios' 2020 space combat game. Launched just under a year ago, Star Wars: Squadrons sees you take to a galaxy far, far away in the first-person cockpits of starfighters across the Galactic Empire and New Republic navy. The game was pretty warmly received by critics, currently sitting at a score of 79% on Metacritic, while our very own Ian Boudreau gave it a nine-out-of-ten, concluding that, "after such a long wait for a successor to X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Star Wars: Squadrons feels like a lucky shot with a proton torpedo". EA Play finally heads to Xbox Game Pass on PCMar 17, 2021 - EurogamerAfter a delay of several months, EA Play is finally making its way onto the PC version of Xbox Games Pass - and it's doing so tomorrow. EA Play first popped up on Game Pass back in November, but there was a caveat: the games were only available on console, so those hoping to access EA games on PC (either through Game Pass for PC or Ultimate) would have to wait. The PC versions were scheduled to arrive in December, but the launch was delayed until sometime in 2021. As detailed in the official update video, those hoping to access EA PC games through Game Pass will first need to sign into the Windows 10 Xbox app, then click install on an EA Play game. This will bring up a prompt to install the EA desktop app. You can then head back to the Xbox app to install the game - at which point you'll be asked to log in with your EA account. We will monitor the effects of this change to see if further adjustments are needed. We’ve also tweaked some components that deal with targeting and visibility to give more impact and importance to the timing of their use without decreasing their effectiveness in key moments. A-/X-/U-/Y-wing and TIE fighter/bomber/interceptor/reaper boost activation cost increased by 60% Increased Squadron Mask cooldown from 20 secs to 28 secs Decreased Squadron Mask duration from 10 secs to 7 secs. Targeting Beacons: Increased cooldown from 30 secs to 35 secs.
