Maintenance patch and one significant balancing change: On Explorer and Story mode purification effects had their effects doubled again - that is, Blessed Water and co now reduce x4 as much corruption compared to the Normal mode. The reason for this is the same reason as the doubling effect was introduced initially: If a player wanted to take his time (a design goal for Explorer and easier) and also not continue down on the corruption route, this would cause corruption to accumulate. While Soul-Break is disabled on these difficulty modes, effects such as the stat debuffs remain. A purification factor of 4 means that through buying the 3 x Blessed Water restock every 20 days (=10 Corruption from 20 days, and =-12 Corruption from the Blessed Water), you can effectively reduce the time-based corruption gain to 0 on these difficulty modes given sufficient money to buy Blessed Water. Since Explorer is not supposed to trivialize the game and only soften up the time-aspect, the gold increase of Blessed Water should prevent a true "infinite" corruption reduction. On story mode where trivialization is okay, the massive amounts of gold you get should allow you to continously fuel the corruption reduction if so desired. It's a bit of a risky balancing change due to the risk of overtrivializing Explorer Mode since the corruption reduction can also be used to get a lot free Star Knightess usages, but based on my data it should be fine, so I want to give it a try. It's already been nearly two months since the game's 1.0 release, sheesh, time flies by fast. Post-1.0 Roadmap Those who have been following the game's development on other social media sites, probably already know on my post-release plans. In this post I want to summarize the main important points for the Steam audience including a roadmap of future updates and a sneak-peak on what we have been up to over the past month (besides bugfixing). For the 1.0 release I largely focused on producing a coherent, complete game within the scope of my available resources in terms of budget and development time. As such, I focused on features that would ultimately always serve the purpose of bringing the player closer towards the Corruption Ending or the Victory Ending. Since our resources are limited, my artist can only produce art so fast, that of course means focusing on certain aspects, while having to cut out other nice-to-have options. The focus of the post 1.0 development (or "2.0 development") is to focus on those aspects that I had to cut. I based this development approach a bit on how Larian Games developed the games Divinity: Original Sin 1/2. In a similar way, you can think of the end of the development road of 2.0 to be a sort of Enhanced version. Don't expect a lot of new content in terms of new main storylines. The main story is definitely finished. The focus of 2.0 will be on: More choices - Different costume choices. More reactivity - Better reflection of Aura's current corruption status, more ending variations. More replayability - New game modes. Longer lewd event chains - Various characters will receive more events for their event chain so you aren't forced to pick ones you don't like to further Aura's corruption and can instead focus on the ones you do like. Besides working on Star Knightess Aura, I am also currently in the process of starting up my next game. The plan is to work 50% on SKA and 50% on that new game. That in particular allows my artist (I will be using different artists for the different games) to produce content at a faster pace than I expand the game. This would allow us to increase the art density in the existing game. Currently I am working on the first post-1.0 major update (Version 1.1 "Maid Bad End") and expect that it will need about 3-4 months of work (with the first one done in March). Due to the 50% time investment, I expect it to finish in about 4-6 months, so about August - October. For the roadmap over roughly the next two years, I have roughly planned to put the following updates: 1.1 "Maid Bad End" 1.2 "Roland Bad End" 1.3 "Hermann & Other Repeatables" 1.4 "Companions" I have focused the planning around the extra lewd chain event expansions, but that doesn't mean they are the only thing that will be worked on for them. Besides a bunch of bugfixes (hopefully fixing the last broken achievements), this patch mostly focuses on one major goal: Introducing a simple modding system. When installing external mods to the game, Steam had kept reverting them when updating. I had hoped that I solved the issue in the 1.0.1 patch by improving the organization of the files that were prone to causing conflicts, but it appears that checksum mismatches alone can be enough to trigger steam reverting files and thus all "installed" mods. The new mod loading system I have implemented over the week was originally planned for 1.1.0 as I don't want to implement high-risk features like that in patch releases and it's very likely I have overlooked something and will have to do a hotfix over the weekend - but its support for adding game modifications without overwriting old files should finally fix the problem of steam reverting mod installations for good. I have also seen various players create their own changes to the game. Some people reported issues of game crashes when steam would try to trigger an achievement. We were able to identify two possible cases where this can happen and fixed them - I hope that these fixes will cover the crashes for everyone who had them. The most common case seemed to be when starting the Game.exe from the steam folder instead of using the steam client. I hope we are doing everything 1000% the Steam way now, but due to my inexperience of creating working with the Steam API, I cannot promise that we covered all of our bases. There is a second bugfix here for a potential lock that would prevent certain Earth scenes from triggering. But in the reporter used a cheated save and I wasn't able his issue on a test playthrough, so I don't think it's possible to replicate the state in an uncheated state. But if someone else did somehow manage to suffer the same issue, the implementation is more robust now. As of yesterday, I released the beta build of the game and also locked in the final Steam release date: Feb 7th is the date! I literally cannot change the date anymore in the steam UI, so from this point going forward, that's the definitve release date! Furthermore, I also updated the demo to the new 1.0.0-beta-1 build. There is no important new content in it - however, a bunch of quality of life improvements, polish work and bugfixes made their way in. In particular, the World Fog feature, which puts a fog effect on parts of the world map which have not been unlocked, should help to avoid new players getting lost in the early game. The remaining work on the game is now 99% more bugfix and polish work. Let's hope the last two weeks until the release can give us more wishlists so we can break into New & Trending on release day! Steam NEXT FestFeb 4, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsStar Knightess Aura will be participating in the upcoming Steam NEXT Fest with a demo. I wanted to give some brief information on the demo (that has been up for a couple of months now). In the demo version, you can play the first Chapter OR up to 40 days OR up to the end of a certain main plot event in the game. In total, I think it's about 10h~ of playtime. The build itself was created and submitted to checking by the Steam team in October and is a bit older (based on 0.35.0), so if you have maybe seen some more character graphics and similar things, don't be surprised they aren't in the Steam demo version. The demo will most likely remain up until the release day. Whether it will remain up after that isn't clear to me yet, as I'm not sure what kind of maintenance implications that would have. Anyways, I hope for anyone newly discovering SKA in the following weeks that you have a lot of fun! :)
