It's been a busy time since the release of the game. Lots of updates, changes, and improvements. And you all helped us make them. We just released another update with some interesting and big changes that we bet you all will enjoy. Here they are: Steam Cloud working across Win/Mac Freeze powerup now creates a frost wave that expands, no longer a whole map freeze Added word collecting mini-game! Now you will receive coins once you collect words in Arena maps. Definitely a challenge Greatly reduced inverse steering drops Bug Fix for when train wasn't following the mouse while a mouse button was pressed An error message is shown when trying to use incorrect control type (using keyboard when controller is plugged in for example) An icon on dominating player's name is shown Domination mode to help identify and hunt them down! So that's this update. Not an insignificant one, eh? And most of the updates were like that. Let us look back at the changes and fixes since the release: Fixed buggy controls for when playing with a controller Active Powerup indication on the train, with indications before they end Hall Of Fame! Collisions with walls improved greatly across all levels (iterated many times) Fixed and improved indication of the Domination mode leader Button cooldown timers Joystick control mode when Follow is selected in Settings Controller support for navigating menus When player boosts, turning speed remains the same, but the radius of the turn is increased Added text notifications for team towers when teams reach 30%, 50% and 80% points. Fixed incorrect domination leader being shown. Fixed crash when exiting game on Windows. Fixed spawning on Saws 20% dead zone for joystick and triggers Some font adjustments Singapore server added MUSIC! Balance tweaks on many maps Cooldown timers for the switches Large improvements to how bouncing works Some glitchy quests and many other small issues are now fixed. Not a bad list, we'd think. And this is just since release, with lots of small tweaks that are not even on the list. The changes we've made since the beta launch has is huge! So, now with all of this, we believe the game is at a point where it's much, much better and more fun. Ever since the game has been approved on Greenlight in 2013, there was a sense of "this would be fun to play with more people". This feeling remained and was the driving force for the last year before the release. Even though there was a big gap in development and a lot has changed since 2013, this has not, and when getting back to Squake we knew what needed to be done. At this point, the original concept is so different to what the game is now, that it feels like it's almost Squake 2 that's been released. With all that said, there's another thing that we'd like to bring attention to. The game is now way cheaper! A relatively small patch for today. The list of changes is: - Fixed buggy controls for when playing with a controller - Now active Powerups are indicated on train, with indications before they end - And the big one - Hall Of Fame! The Hall Of Fame is currently tracking two stats but we are considering expanding the list (with reason). If you have any suggestions - shoot! That is pretty much it for this week. Some changes and fixes for the weekend. As you may have already noticed, this week we've adjusted quite a few important things this week. Among these: Collisions with walls improved greatly across all levels - quite a big quality of life improvement and some of you have said so. Fixed and improved indication of Domination mode leader - so this one is a smaller one but important nonetheless. Added text notifications for Team Towers when teams reach certain progress points - similarly to the Domination leader tweaks, this one did improve the game in a small but significant way. Button cooldown timers - this did make matches less hectic, didn't it? Lots of fixes, tweaks... Oh, and music! Yes! Thanks again to Maks_SF Quite a lot of changes happened this week. And they were important! Well, so are the ones for today: Added a new Joystick control mode when Follow is selected in Settings - This mode should give much better precision to all of you playing with a controller. Try it out, let us know what you think. Added controller support for navigating menus - pretty self explanatory, really. As always, give us feedback on this :) When player boosts, turning speed remains the same, but the radius of the turn is increased - The train used to become hardly controllable after boosting before and this change fixes that issue. Please let us know what do you think about it. - Balance tweaks on many maps! - Cooldown timers for the switches. Now you can't turn them on/off repeatedly any more. Even buttons need some rest. - Controls: They just got better. Large improvements to how bouncing works. It's been a long journey for us, which started back in 2013 when we completed Steam Greenlight with your help. And it still continues! Thanks a lot to all of you for your support and feedback! Speaking about SQUAKE itself, the new version we launched yesterday as you could see, contains lots of new stuff. A rather big update has been pushed today. Some fixes, adjustments and such, but most importantly: - Capture The Flag mode. - Chat within game rooms. It sends and receives messages. Revolutionary! No, really, it's nothing too fancy, but it is there for you to enjoy. Just press that big "Enter". CTF is currently available on one map only (Space Point), but it wont stay like for long. Adjustment to other maps, along with new ones, are coming. It might have, ghem, issues so we hope you will let us know about them. Fixes will be made quickly! A thing to note also, is that you can change your control method between keyboard or mouse follow in the About section. There will be more soon, but in the meantime... See you on the field! They are: - Fixed trains moving all over the place when another player is using mouse control mode. - Quests have been reset. Previous system didn't allow adding/remove quests. So we have... - Added mouse follow control mode. It can be enabled in 'About' tab in main menu. - Game Controller: left and right triggers now turn the train - Reworked main menu tabs logic. They behave more naturally - Domination timer is now 1-10 instead of previously 0-9 - Domination: current longest train is marked with a cup on the right side scoreboard. - Team Towers: shows numbers in top-center of the screen when somebody brings dynamites. - Fixed quest slide out, it doesn't hide when mouse is on the edge of screen As you can see, some changes are minor and others have a bit of a bigger impact on gameplay. The rate is such, actually, that we would need to hire a few more people to give the keys away before Christmas. For that reason we unfortunately have to limit the time until which you can request a key.
