Ex-BioShock devs are working on a South Park gameJan 8, 2022 - PCGamesNDeveloper Question is the studio behind The Blackout Club and The Magic Circle and is made up of veterans of the BioShock series and the South Park RPGs - and is now working on a new South Park game, that may even be a multiplayer title. There hasn't been much movement on South Park games since the release of Ubisoft's well-received South Park: The Fractured But Whole RPG in 2017, although the show's animation studio is apparently working on its own game internally. Well, fans can look forward to another game coming, as Question just put up a job listing for a lead level designer for an Unreal-powered title "set in the world of South Park". The listing requires experience with "multiplayer level design work", so expect the near title to include or be exclusively multiplayer. Question's previous title The Blackout Club was a co-op game about a bunch of kids sneaking around a suburban neighbourhood, and while that has more of a horror focus that sounds very South Park to me. It's been four years since the last South Park game, the fantastic and still relevant superhero parody The Fractured But Whole, and it now looks like there's a new South Park game coming from creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone - and apparently South Park Studios will be developing it internally. It was announced this week on Bloomberg that the South Park duo of Trey Parker and Matt Stone had signed a huge $900 million deal with Paramount and ViacomCBS to bring a lot of content to their Paramount+ streaming service - including a lot of South Park, such as a new movie, six more seasons of the show, a whopping 14 spin-off features, and "a 3D video game". "We do whatever we want, and they are pretty supportive of it," Matt Stone said of their current situation with South Park. "We're the luckiest guys in TV in that way." Parker and Stone are financing it themselves, so will likely be even more heavily involved than they were previously. Read the rest of the story... (more…) South Park: The Fractured But Whole reviewApr 24, 2018 - EurogamerEditor's note: Ubisoft's South Park RPG hits the Switch today, so to mark the occasion we're returning to our original review, first published in October last year. For nearly two decades, South Park's creators have been working to a weekly production schedule. It's an inconceivable cadence that must raise stress and caffeine levels well beyond what medical professionals would endorse, but crucially it allows the show the agility to satirise events as they're happening in a way that most television can't. By contrast, South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been in development at Ubisoft San Francisco for over two years. Perhaps it's this fact, above all else, that best explains why it falls just faintly but consistently flat. It's not simply that the game isn't topical. The well-recieved Stick of Truth spent five years in gestation, after all, and didn't feel at all lacking relevance or bite back in 2014. But The Stick of Truth had the advantage of going first. It was the vessel for every observational gag about gaming that had ever occurred to Matt Stone and Trey Parker up to that point, and on those terms it was a real pleasure. Familiar RPG design met naturally in the middle with the series' humour and made a cohesive whole. But with the jokes about gaming already made once before, and South Park's defining current affairs-based humour kept out of reach by game development's longer timespan, The Fractured But Whole can't help but miss the mark. It's a game that listlessly re-tells the same 'gaming be like' jokes as its predecessor, changing tack only to give 2015's hot button issues like gentrification a real roasting. Like the TV show did.
