We're back and working hard on what we feel are some big missing pieces of SNØ. I am currently working on a control remap system that will give SNØ much better control customization options and accessibility for players using custom controllers. It's a brain bender of a task, which is why it’s taken a bit longer than usual. While you wait for the next update, we thought we'd share our future plans for SNØ. Here is a list of what we have planned before summer hits: 🪂 Quality of Life Update - Major update including remapper + other quality of life updates 📼 Retro Update - Regular update, with a small surprise 🏔️ The World Gen 2.0 Update - Major update including brand new biomes, a more varied terrain generation and new skin patterns (SNØ will be backwards compatible with already saved mountains) 🚀 Porting - After the summer we'll start looking into getting the game ported to consoles! We hope you want to help us reach it🙏 Happy hunting! 🐣 Best Alex SGSNØ 1.0.01.84 - HotfixApr 10, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsFixes 🏂 Snowboard achievements - Fixed issues with both snowboard achievements. They are confirmed to work now ☃️ Post death lag - Fixed issue where snow particles could sometimes cause severe performance drop THE SNOWBOARD UPDATE 🏂Apr 9, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsThe snowboarder is finally ready 🏂 - our most requested feature in SNØ by far! It took a lot of work to get right, but I think we got there in the end! Also... ✨ SNØ is on SALE! ✨ SNØ is part of Sport-acular Festival and discounted by 30 % until Wed, Apr 16, 10 AM PDT (7 PM GMT+2) About the new snowboarder The snowboarder plays very similar to the skiers - same stats, same scoring logic, mostly same everything. But due to the nature of a snowboarder, it does come with a couple of unique quirks that sets them apart from the skiers: 🧭 No "backwards" - Instead of riding switch like a skier, a snowboarder will just turn their head and keep on riding facing forwards. We had to rewrite our procedural posing components to account for this new, bidirectional behavior. 🤠 Helmet - We quickly noticed that a snowboarder carries around significantly less gear than a skier. To compensate we decided to give the snowboarder a helmet! Not only does it balance the color composition, it can also fly off during a crash! (No, it will not save you 🤕) 🔦 Bidirectional headlight - The snowboarder will always face in the direction of travel, and therefore their headlight will too during pitch black nights. 🦘 Bidirectional unstuck jump direction - When riding at very slow velocities the jump is angled slightly forwards to help you gain some speed. The skiers have a defined forward facing direction, while the snowboarder's forward is defined by the current travel direction. ↔️ Goofy/Regular - Someone made us aware that stance could be a sensitive topic! But we had to choose one, and we chose goofy (right foot in front), simply because it looks best in the main menu. But we acknowledge both riding stances, and so we threw in an extra achievement in honor of all you regulars out there 🤙 Here are some other things that are new in SNØ 1.0.01.83 Additions: 🏂 Snowboarder - New playable character! 🌨️ New weather type - Some mountains now feature heavy snowfall, without going full snowstorm 🎿 Leaderboard rider icon - The leaderboard now indicate the rider used to achieve a score Changes: ✒️ Calligraphic snow deformation - Skis/boards now deform snow like flat tipped pens 💥 Improved grind effect - Grind sparks light up the environment Fixes: 📸 Photo mode bug - Game should no longer crash on some Mac devices when taking a photo If you have any feedback on the new snowboarder, suggestions or other thoughts, please let us know in our Discord! 😄 See you in the mountains! ⛷️❤️🏂 Best Alex SGSNØ 1.0.01.71Apr 7, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsSmall update addressing an issue with this week's Peak Of The Week challenge. Two extra mini fixes hitched a ride. Fixes: 🏔️ Fixed issue with Peak of the Week mode 🏅 Reset Peak of the Week leaderboard full of 0 scores 👐 Fixed bug that made it possible to unlock "Look Ma', No Hands" achievement despite leaning with help from gamepad triggers ☃️ More responsive detection of death by falling below snow SNØ 1.0.01.67Apr 5, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsAn update addressing collider issues, the final small score balancing tweaks (hopefully) and a slight performance upgrade. Plus some other stuff. Here are all the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.01.67 Additions: 🏆 Two new achievements - specific for the soon to be released snowboarder ⚡ Improved performance - PC and Steamdeck only. SNØ now runs at a stable 60 fps on Steamdeck at Very High quality setting Changes: 🐬 Rotation scoring yield more points 🔄️ Full rotation scoring yield less points ☁️ Big air scoring yield slightly more points 🦘 Land on obstacle scoring yield slightly more points 🌟 Other minor score adjustments 🎮 Made steering while grinding more powerful ☃️ Better whiteout detection - Whiteout now requires that both feet AND torso is below snow ⛑️ Forgiving torso collision detection* - Torso collider will not trigger death if it hits an obstacle that is the same as the one you are currently grounded on. 📸 Steam screenshot "location" now mentions the current mountain seed 🤐 Improved model and walk cYcle on on mountain #. Fixes: 🌳 Obstacle collider optimization - Double checked all obstacle colliders and made sure they fit their visual model. Oak tree colliders in particular were significantly improved 👻 Phase through obstacles bug - FIXED! 👕 Seasonal trigger bug - Fixed a bug that caused seasonal skins to be unlocked outside of season *⛑️ Forgiving torso collision detection: This is a response to the Phase through obstacle bugfix. The bug was caused by a line of code designed to make landing on obstacles at very steep angles more forgiving. When landing at such steep angles, the torso tends to touch the obstacle, triggering the kill. Removing this line of code made the game feel too unforgiving. My solution was to simply whitelist the collider you are currently grounded on so that it will not trigger death if the torso hits it. However: Obstacles can consist of many colliders, and touching any of the ones you're not currently riding on will still trigger death. Also, the head collider will always trigger death, no matter what. Hope you like the changes! As always, if you have feedback on anything, please let us know in our Discord! 😄 Have a terrific weekend ☕✨ Best Alex SGCOMING SOON - Snowboarder 🏂Apr 2, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsA LOT of you have been requesting a snowboarder for SNØ! So we made one! 🏂 It was TRICKY but it was worth it! We studied footage of snowboarders, poses and at one point I found myself balancing on a plank in the office to try and get a feel for the posing (spoiler alert: We're not snowboarders). We also did a fair amount of tweaking of our original movement and posing logic, and tested on people we know who actually snowboard 🤙 We think we got it now, and we gotta say: Snowboarding is really fun 🤩 The snowboarder will be made available as a playable character in the full version of SNØ on April 9th! Best Alex SGSNØ 1.0.01.61Mar 28, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsThis is an update that aims to fix SNØ's scoring system (read more about why the old system broke in our previous post), plus some fun new additions! Here are the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.01.61 Additions: 👑 POTW Champion slot - New slot on Peak of the Week leaderboard featuring last week's winner Changes: 🔗 Near Miss - Chain bonus for near miss scoring 🌳 Land On - Chain bonus for land on obstacle scoring 😶‍🌫️ Full Rotation - Full rotation score bonus now grow at a non-exponential rate 🐬 Rotation - Rotation scoring yield more points the more upside down you are ⏲️ Score counter linger time - Continuous score counters (near miss, rotation, big air, swooping, grinding and trick) linger slightly longer on screen before cashing in ⌛ Multiplier growth - Multiplier now takes slightly longer to build up over time, but... ⏩ Multiplier growth - ...you now get a multiplier build up bonus every time a new score counter appears on screen 🐇 Rabbit score multiplier - Bumped and extended rabbit bonus multiplier 🛠️ Various minor tweaks to some score and multiplier values Fixes: 🛑 Grind scoring bug - Fixed bug causing grinding on objects with no friction (the ones intended for grinding) yielded no points. 🎮 Grind Steering bug - Fixed bug that made it impossible to change grind angle by gamepad trigger steering 📦 Instant collider activation - Attempt to fix the bug where players sometimes clip through entire obstacles New achievements: 🎿 Reckless Riding II - Achievement awarded for chaining together 10 near misses 🌋 The floor is Magma - Achievement awarded for landing on 20 obstacles without touching snow 🔥 Apocalypse - Achievement awarded for landing on 50 obstacles without touching snow Data management The rebalance makes it harder to reach incredibly high scores. That's why this update also need to do something about the existing high scores. Therefore, as part of this update: ⚠️ The global leaderboards will reset When booting the game for the first time after updating, the game will also 🏅 Clear your personal best score for mode Score Attack 🏅 Clear your personal best score for mode Infinite Run Disclaimer: We know our own game quite well, and we believe that the new scoring system will enable a wide range of viable scoring strategies. However we're a two man team - and we do our best - but we simply do not have the capacity to test every in and out of the scoring system on every available mountain, so we can never guarantee 100 % that our scoring system does not contain overpowered exploits. The next week we'll be extra open for feedback regarding the new scoring system. If you discover what you believe to be a broken strategy or other things you want to give feedback on, we really appreciate it if you let us know in our Discord! We hope you appreciate the changes, and we look forward to see you claim your spots on the leaderboard again! ⛷️🏔️🌟 Best Alex & Christer SG COMING SOON - Score Rebalance 🌟Mar 26, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsOne month! ☝️That's how long it took you to break SNØ's scoring system. For us it has been a real pleasure seeing our community discover the best scoring strategies (strategies we couldn't even imagine), and search for mountains providing the best scenarios for exploitation. Two weeks ago (exactly one month after SNØ's release) Nevir posted this on our Discord: The Godspin We realized quite early after the release of SNØ that we would have to do a score balancing patch at some point. The "Godspin" (demonstrated in the video above) quickly proved itself to be a superior scoring strategy. It exploits the fact that full spin rewards grows exponentially, and for weeks we have seen Godspin dominate the leaderboard. But we want SNØ to be fun for everyone, and allow for a wide range of playstyles and viable scoring strategies. So in service of the game - and everyone playing it - we have finally decided to go through with the rebalancing patch. We have been reluctant to go through with it, both because we didn't want to spoil the fun for our top players, and because rebalancing comes with a couple of "kjipe"* consequences for everyone. The point is, we don't take this lightly, but with Nevir's score overflow run we feel there are no reasons left to not go through with it. Consequences of rebalancing To ensure everyone doesn't end up with unobtainable leaderboard scores and personal bests, the patch will include: Wiping the global leaderboards Clearing local high scores for Score Attack and Infinite Run (Longest Zen Distance will be kept). Since the next update will reset all scores, we just wanted to give you a heads up. We hope you understand why we do what we do, and if you are a competitive player we also hope you are a bit excited for a fresh start. More details about the specifics of the rebalancing patch will be posted in the patch notes as the update goes live. We're aiming for this weekend 🙏 Best Alex SG *Kjipt = Norwegian word for sad, unfortunate, lameNEW GAME MODE 🏔️✨Mar 20, 2025 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45011250/54513b22329372590abb49158682af29629cbe49.gif About a week ago we dropped our new game mode Peak of the Week (POTW), and I felt like sharing with you how it works and why we added it. What is it? Peak of the week is a mode that presents everyone with the same challenge on a weekly basis. The challenge is generated from a seed that renews every week, and it consist of the following three, randomized elements: Mountain seed, game mode (Infinite Run or Score Attack) and rider. Every challenge also comes with its own new leaderboard! 🌄 The weekly challenge renews itself every Monday at 7.00 (UTC) 🌄 Why is it? Honestly I picked up the idea from deep within our forums where SmogBruh suggested a daily seed and leaderboard. I immediately liked the idea and we soon got the same suggestion from other game developers in Trondheim. It just seemed like a good idea - and one that shouldn't be too hard to implement (big plus). We had already felt how special some mountains could become if they only got a little bit of history. I mean, after visiting some of the top scoring mountains from the leaderboard, I could almost feel the presence of the riders who've been there before, although there is no actual trace of them. Sending everyone to the same (randomly selected) mountain should be able to evoke a similar feeling. We also liked the idea of combining this with a leaderboard that resets regularly, as it would allow more players to experience the thrill of achieving a top score on a global leaderboard. At the same time we were a bit skeptical to the whole thing. We didn't want to risk losing the simple, minimalist, no-nonsense core of SNØ. To put it bluntly: I despise modern retention mechanics, and "daily seed" felt like playing dangerously close to stuff like "daily rewards" and other dark design patterns, stuff that we have deliberately avoided through the development of SNØ - and our lifetime as game developers really. So we decided to make the seed renew on a weekly basis instead of daily. We think it makes the mode feel less urgent, less "pushy" and honestly I think it makes it more meaningful, allowing mountain specific strategies and discussions to form in our community. There is also nothing special to gain from participating in POTW regularly, so there's is no need to worry if you "forget" to play. The only value you get from POTW is (hopefully) a feeling of being part of a shared experience, and maybe get pushed out of your comfort zone by having to adapt to a mountain that might not fit your favorite playstyle. Who knows, maybe you'll discover some new tricks or survival strategies on one of the weekly seeds? Final thoughts In the end I think we struck a good balance with a fun mode that mixes SNØs core features up in a new way to give an accessible, shared competetive experience, without demanding too much attention. Also I'm very glad we didn't settle for the mode's working title: "Weekly Run". I always wanted to call it...SNØ 1.0.01.46 🏔️✨Mar 15, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHere are the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.01.46 Additions: 🏔️✨ Peak of the Week - New mode presenting players with a weekly challenge consisting of a randomly picked mountain, mode and rider. Everyone gets the same challenge, and every week the leaderboard resets. Renews every Monday at 07.00 (UTC). More about this in its own post coming soon! 🎮 RT/LT Spin - New input option (for gamepads only) that overrides the classic "hold trick to change spin axis" behavior. Instead it maps the third spin axis to the triggers. This new spin method is enabled by default. The classic method can be enabled in the options menu. ☁️ Cross platform support for Steam Cloud. Save files should now sync between PC and Mac* Changes: 🌱 Exposed seeds - Custom named mountains now also show their numerical seeds in the mountain generator list 👑 Zen PB - Your personal longest Zen ride is now shown in the main menu 🔮 New UI element for changing rider - Preparing for cool things to come 🔊 Labeled audio sliders Fixes: 🐬 Flip bug - Doing flips while riding switch and holding trick will now boost your spin in the correct direction 📸 Attempt to fix a bug that caused game to crash on mac when taking a photo in photo mode. Not verified yet. ⛷️ High score rider data - fixed a bug where the wrong rider id was uploaded as part of the leaderboard meta data, causing a lot of leaderboard entries to have the monoskier stored as the record setting rider. Old leaderboard entries may still hold incorrect ids, but all future entries will be correct. 🎮⌨️ Optimized and more snappy detection of changed input 🅰️ Font size adjustments on the following UI elements: Challenger name, final score subtitle and "Stuck?" text 📖 Localization fixes and improvements - Improvement of Russian, and fixed a missing Turkish translation *☁️ Steam Cloud Warning for Mac Users Now that Steam Cloud supports cross platform saves, players who have been playing on both a PC and Mac should expect a message telling them their Steam Cloud is out of sync. Syncing it means choosing which one of your save files to keep, sacrificing the other in the process. I know a lot of people get attached to their skins, so if you don't want to lose them in the sync process, here's a couple of options: 🛌 Disable Steam Cloud for SNØ in the Steam game properties ⛷️ Make a note of all the skin seeds, and go claim them again! (Recommended option. This will unfortunately not work for your seasonal skins) 🧑‍🔬 Advanced option that will preserve even seasonal skins. Proceed with caution (I take no responsibility for any data loss caused by attempting this solution): Take a backup of the save file about to be sacrificed by the sync process (for good measure, I recommend you take a backup of your preferred save file as well). Download the SNØ Demo and disable Steam Cloud for it. Play the demo a couple of rounds, and the quit it. Now replace the SNØ Demo save file with backup you took of the save file about to be sacrificed. Now boot the full game....SNØ 1.0.00.91Mar 1, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsNoticed an issue with some skin patterns. Also it felt wrong to let seasonal skins block access to all the standard skins. Here are the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.00.91 Changes 🐰🐰 Made it possible to collect standard skins during seasonal events. To get both, simply catch two rabbits on the same mountain Fixes 🎨Adjusted some wrong offset and scale settings on some the TRD WSC 2025 skin patterns Best Alex SGNew skins available! 👕✨Mar 1, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsTrondheim - our home town - is hosting the World Skiing Championship 2025, and the whole city is turned upside down! We just boarded the hype train, and figured we should so something fun with SNØ - it being a locally made skiing game and all! 🙌 So we dropped a couple of seasonal, time limited skin ingredients into SNØ's procedural skin generator! We added patterns and colors inspired by the graphic profile of the ongoing championship as well as some patterns featuring symbols unique to the City of Trondheim👑 ✨ The event TRD WSC 2025 is active right now and will end on March 9th (UTC) ✨ So how do I get these skins? Seasonal skins are collected just like before - by catching rabbits! In the skin selection menu you will notice that seasonal skins are tagged with an event name - indicating that it will not be possible to recreate if the seed is played after the event has ended. I don't like these new skins! You can still collect normal skins during a seasonal event. Simply catch 2 rabbits on the same mountain, and the second rabbit will unlock the normal one 🐰🐰 Hope you find some stylish outfits - happy hunting! 🐇 Best Alex SG PS: If you find a very cool outfit or have a suggestion for improvements, please share it with us on our Discord or in the Steam forums! PS2: We are in no way sponsored by or affiliated with the championship. We just wanted to so something fun 🥳 SNØ 1.0.00.87Feb 28, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsA small weekend update addressing issues with the procedural trick system and dropping some new, time limited skins! Here are the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.00.87 Changes: 👕 New, time limited collection of skin patterns and colors - active from now through March 9th 2025 (UTC)* Fixes: 🪂 Deploying glider now correctly resolves the trick score. Deploying glider too soon after trick will still negate the score. 🤹 Removed a bug where the tricks could sometimes get stuck and keep scoring points as long as glider was deployed 🖥️ Photo mode UI now scales correctly on super ultrawide screens So, what's the deal with this sudden appearance of time limited skins, I hear you ask? The short version is that Trondheim - our home town - is hosting a big international skiing event right now., and everyone is hyped! We thought it'd be fun to join the festivities with by making some skin patterns for SNØ inspired by Trondheim and the ongoing event (this is not a sponsorship thing btw, we're just caught by the hype 😅) More info coming soon. For now all you need to know is that you collect these fresh new skins just like before - by catching rabbits! Have a terrific weekend ☕✨ Best Alex SG SNØ 1.0.00.67Feb 25, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsBased on feedback and observations of people playing SNØ this last week we have made this small patch to address a couple of issues - mainly an issue with our implementation of multiplier growth rate - along with a couple of smaller tweaks and fixes! Here are the things that are new in SNØ 1.0.00.67 Changes: 🌟 Base multiplier growth rate now factors in progression down the mountain as well as time. Max multiplier growth rate by time is same as before - as long as you don't linger 🪂 Swoop-points can not be lost anymore (no more *clonk* sound)! Instead you will be awarded bonus points for a successful swoop-up* 💨 Gliding close to ground now whirls up snow. This also indicates you are close enough for scoring swoop-points ⌨️ New controller glyphs for lean input, indicating both WASD and arrow keys can be used Fixes: 🔦 No more flashing lights bug during pitch black night on Mac! 🐇 Rabbit trails updated with correct trail material - glows brighter, making them easier to pursue 🌌 Glider lift will start to decrease at very high altitudes, preventing death out of thin air Hope you like these changes! If you encounter any more issues in the mountains, please report them on our Discord or in the Steam forums 🤙 Best Alex SG PS: Swooping = glide close to the ground ↘️➡️↗️🪂SNØ is Steam Deck Verified ✅Feb 22, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsSNØ is officially Steam Deck Verified! 🤩 We have aimed for seamless compatibility with the Deck from the beginning, so getting this recognition from Steam holds huge significance for us and feels like a validation of all our hard work 🥹 It's a bit embarrassing, but when Christer shared the news that we had received the email with the verification results, I literally jumped form my seat, clapping my hands in what can only be described as childlike joy 😅 It’s these moments that remind us why we pour our passion into what we do ❤️ {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45011250/0b40e25a05b080c4df77c04afbd5593a0fbea39c.png ☝️Excerpt from the mail we received from Steam Big thank you to everyone who reported from your Decks that SNØ ran smoothly! 🙌 If you want to read more, here is Christer's post about How we optimized for the Deck!
