It all begins high atop the mountains of the Sanctuary Islands, where something feels different this year. After you enjoy the beautiful views, you might notice the Elder Manta—a long time guardian of the sea—circling nearby. It seems even they can sense the unease below. Darkness has disrupted the ecosystem, polluting the waters and endangering the birds, mantas, and manatees that call it home. Creatures are trapped in this growing threat. The Darkness doesn’t just linger—it notices you. It clings to you as you move, slowly draining the color from the world around you. Even the world’s light seems quieter, dimmed by something just beneath the surface. And that presence is changing. Each week, something new stirs in the depths, drawn to the disturbed waters. Some are small and sneaky. It’s about discovering how much light a single act of kindness can bring. And this year, your efforts can ripple beyond the game world. Sky continues its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ridding the world’s oceans and rivers of plastic pollution. The majority of in-game items available for purchase during Days of Nature will support real-world cleanup efforts in oceans and waterways. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44120852/7c6741ce3ba27b88530ca7bfa74c889d13336213.jpg These charity items will be specially designated in the in-game shop, and a little more than half of the list price of these charity items sold will be donated. Of the remaining amount, 30% goes to platform fees (charged by app stores), and 20% supports development costs. Since 2021, the Sky community has raised almost $2.5 million for this vital cause—proof that a little light can go a long way! That support has helped remove plastic waste from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, contributed to river cleanup projects through The Ocean Cleanup’s Interceptor program, and supported the testing and operation of large-scale ocean cleanup systems like System 002. These efforts are already informing the next generation of solutions being developed today. Plus what would this time of year be without two of Sky’s most vibrant events: Days of Nature and Days of Color. And for those Sky kids out there who have wished they could fit more items into the Nest to create the most amazing room, café, sculpture, or plushie museum ever—well, this update has a new feature that can help you out. Season of the Blue Bird What does it take to heal a heart? Sky’s newest Season brings back a family of Spirits who are on the search for a legendary blue bird said to have the power to heal sadness. Join them as they search for this creature to lift a weight from the heart of a young child, and as you complete Seasonal Quests, you’ll gradually discover the true nature of the Blue Bird. As you spend time with this group of Spirits, they’ll teach you new expressions, and each offers a range of items reflecting the story of the Season—capes, outfits, hats, boots, and more, plus two Ultimate Gifts! The Season starts on April 21 (all times PDT, UTC -7) and continues through July 6th. Days of Nature For three weeks beginning April 28, a new form of Darkness traps Light Creatures who need your aid. Swim to set them free, and they’ll grant you Light in return for your kindness. Different Light creatures appear through each phase of the event—but beware, because Dark Creatures have also arrived, and they lurk beneath the waters, on the lookout for unsuspecting Sky kids! Each day, gather Event Light to forge up to five Event Tickets per day—plus, 15 one-time bonus Tickets are hidden around the event area. These can be used to unlock two of this year’s new cosmetics: the Ocean Waves outfit and the Ocean Manta hair. Other items include the Ocean Sea Foam Set in the in-game shop, which captures the shimmering beauty of water in both a cape and a pair of boots ($24.99). Items from previous years are returning with the tides too—the Nature Wave Mask and Nature Wave Scarf will be offered for Candles and Hearts, respectively. For details on other items, check out the patch notes from previous years! Days of Nature has always been a time to give back. Sky continues its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ridding the world’s oceans and rivers of plastic pollution. During the Sky x Le Petit Prince Encore event, the Little Prince invites you back to the stars to experience his timeless story again. For those who have been not-so-quietly hoping, the complete set of Little Prince quests is returning, now presented in full color. Providing the best experience for our players has always been our focus here at thatgamecompany, and we want to thank our beta testers who have helped us on this journey. We’re excited to share some changes in how we handle beta moving forward to further improve how we work together and build an even stronger connection with our testers. Sky has grown so much over the years. Our teams have tried to balance changes to the development and production process with the demands it all puts on the studio’s beta testing structure—which has been mostly unchanged since 2018—but it was clear that we needed to evolve the process to make improvements. Starting on March 20th, we’ll be restructuring our beta program to improve feedback collection, enhance security against hacked leaks, and create a more efficient testing process which will allow us to partner more closely with our testers. As part of this transition, on this day all existing beta access will be removed and beta accounts will be reset. Players interested in participating in the beta program can apply through an open application process, and we’ll select testers from the applicant pool when participants are needed. Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) required: Testers will need to sign an NDA, meaning no beta footage or content can be recorded or shared outside of designated private beta channels on Discord. Discord-focused testing community: Our official Sky server will be the center of feedback, conversation, and reporting for everyone participating in a round of testing. This was a tough decision, as we have relied on our entire beta community who has always been there for us. Lighting is back to normal in places like the Valley of Triumph’s Coliseum and Daylight Prairie’s Sanctuary Islands. Days of Treasure Shovel prompt only displays when player is close to it. Applied some basic laws of physics to the shovel so that while it can dig up treasure, it cannot pierce a hole into the very fabric of the world that a hapless player could fall into. Fixed a missing text hint when attempting to unlock a Dye Blessing spell without having enough Event Tickets for it. Restored missing dialogue that should display after gathering all six Event Tickets from the daily event activities. Season of Radiance Continues More colors are on their way to herald the second half of the Season! All the varieties of Colored Light become available with the remaining Seasonal Quests, and the Radiance Guide and their friends invite you to use the dyes you collect to add your own personal, and colorful, touch to your favorite items. Once you complete all of the Seasonal Quests, the Radiance Guide offers the chance to unlock a new and uniquely shaped cape in exchange for Hearts. (This will remain available to unlock even after the Season ends on 23:59 Sunday April 6th—all times Pacific). Dye-Related Updates, Too! This update brings some improvements to how dyeing works: A number of hats as well as face, neck, and head accessories are dyeable now. The dye selection menu now has symbols associated with each color for easier use. Numbers were added to the dye button to correspond with the amount of dye needed to dye a region of an item. Days of Treasure: Prizes Await on the Horizon A mystical chart be showin' the path to secret loot! Sky’s newest event comes ashore from March 3rd through 16th for every adventurous Sky kid. Two teams of Spirits (who you may recognize from past Seasons) will appear in a different realm every day, each hoping that you will help them on their hunt for buried treasure. Teleport to the teams’ location from the guide Spirit in Aviary Village or Home, and then choose which team you’ll help that day. Take a look at their magical map for a clue for where your search will take you, borrow their shovel, and then set out on the search! The Spirit teams are competing with each other to see which one will receive the most help from Sky kids. At the end of the event, the winning Spirit team will send a special thank you message (and reward) to all Sky kids’ inboxes, in gratitude for your support. Gain up to five Event Tickets each day from Event Ticket Light rewarded when you discover the Treasure. There are also 15 specially shaped bonus Event Tickets that can be found throughout the event, several in each of the Days of Treasure locations. Days of Love returns, bringing something mysterious for Sky kids to discover together. From February 10th through the 23rd, Days of Love sparkles and shines in Jellyfish Cove. An amethyst-colored meteorite will fall from the starry skies and land on the beach, and working together will be the best way to reveal its gifts to Sky kids! Use certain emotes near the different clusters of the meteorite to see what effect they have, and you didn’t hear it from us, but you may notice different effects if you use emotes with friends. Take note of how the meteorite is affected—not only will that lead you to find what it holds, it’s a great way to gather Event Ticket Light, too! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44120852/63c534fddf238cecf040769725735f0de0ef1dd2.jpg Up to four tickets’ worth will come from the meteorite each day. For curious and intrepid Sky kids, keep a keen eye as you stroll and soar along the coastline because there are also 15 bow-shaped bonus Event Tickets located in the area to find throughout the event! Use Event Tickets to unlock a new hairstyle and a crystal prop (perhaps once part of the meteorite itself?)—the prop even glows depending on what emotes nearby players use. Over the course of Season of Radiance, eight different base colors will become available to gather from special Dark Plants in the realms—some colors will be more common than others. Use these base colors as their own dye, or mix them to create a total of over 70 colors! In 0.28.0, most capes, masks, and outfits (e.g. pants, dresses, tunics) have dyeable areas; items in other categories, such as head and neck accessories, are planned to become dyeable in 0.28.5.
