We are back! After spending the last few months in the content mines, it's time for us to report on our latest progress. While we’d love to show off details from the next chapter, It’s getting increasingly harder to do so without spoilers, but rest assured: you will get to see all of it on release. That’s why we decided to do a bot reveal special for this devblog instead, so here’s a peek at just some of the new bots: https://i.imgur.com/mjRNUxd.png https://i.imgur.com/Wrh9fvN.gif https://i.imgur.com/nI3j33U.gif https://i.imgur.com/ANxmgRK.gif https://i.imgur.com/D5DuNon.gif https://i.imgur.com/JoGXfek.gif Yellow Totebot Get ready to re-adjust your base walls or crank your vehicle’s engine a bit higher when you see this new bot jumping into the scene! Originally designed as a fully autonomous power trowel, the Yellow Totebot has since gone renegade. Now, it stomps its way across the planet, eager to flatten any Mechanic it sees, no matter how many ceilings and floors it has to smash in the process. https://i.imgur.com/Xivl3Uv.png https://i.imgur.com/0ZAv4lb.gif https://i.imgur.com/LaeUqzE.gif https://i.imgur.com/OPhPDVO.gif Blue Totebot Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water…Originally designed for offshore drilling, the Blue Totebot has since decided to become an underwater torpedo instead. To make matters worse, it can also move fast enough on land to catch up with any Mechanics that aggravate it, so watch where you dive! https://i.imgur.com/LAEpbLs.png https://i.imgur.com/pRkxjwB.gif https://i.imgur.com/KHKo4aS.gif https://i.imgur.com/iEAl2NK.gif Red Totebot We’ve teased this clanker before, but we’ve never shown him in action until now. Originally designed to clear away mine shafts using explosives, some of the Red Totebots have since wandered up to the surface. When they encounter a Mechanic, they will ignite their payload before rushing at their target, and they won’t stop until they’ve reduced their target (or anything standing in their way) to smithereens. https://i.imgur.com/7i8iytO.png https://i.imgur.com/WJpWoBr.png https://i.imgur.com/sCb4hBX.gif Green Tapebot You’ve already seen this little bot on our Twitter. Once, this unassuming clanker would only bubble wrap fruits and veggies, until the latest firmware update made it run amok. Armed with a roll of weaponized bubble plastic, it might not pack much of a punch by himself, but a bunch of them can ruin any Mechanic’s day! https://i.imgur.com/nx5XFc6.png https://i.imgur.com/JGFIrBg.png https://i.imgur.com/PTF3Xzp.gif https://i.imgur.com/NE93z6d.gif Yellow Tapebot An elegant bot for a civilized age, the Yellow Tapebot was perfectly harmless, designed to keep everything neat and tidy in storages by painting labels with its special four-color ink. New devblog, coming though! It’s been a busy month for us, as we have been moving the Scrap HQ to a bigger and better office; the team out-grew the old space, and things were getting as cramped as a Woc Crate. Not to mention all the exciting new additions we have been making to the game that we can’t wait to share with you! So let’s get to it!

https://i.imgur.com/buFOWf7.gif Minerbot What’s that coming up from the mine? It’s a new bot! Introducing the Minerbot: Scrap Mechanic’s first flying bot! These heavily overworked bots are flying on fumes: after all, they’ve been digging random holes underground in every direction, slowly overheating for who knows how long. If spotted, the Minerbot will spray any Mechanics it detects with a shower of rocks. While Minerbots are not as accurate or alert as the Tapebots, they can become very dangerous, very quickly in large numbers. But even if you do shoot them down, watch out; Minerbots can still crash into you! The Minerbot is shaping up to be something that can even top the current bots. https://i.imgur.com/TlDwrw3.png https://i.imgur.com/7qRzpO4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EXXRpkR.jpg UV Grow Bed Plant a farm underground or on your creations, with the aid of the new UV Grow Beds! This new farming item gives you greater flexibility than ever, in exchange for electricity. But be careful: bots can still find you and your precious crops, so you’d better encase those veggies in some sturdy material. And while you’re at it, why not make a gun turret, for good measure? https://i.imgur.com/OkbCVFm.png https://i.imgur.com/GKVqHFF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZqYcXAA.png https://i.imgur.com/zh4Wb8u.gif https://i.imgur.com/7rgRmBV.gif https://i.imgur.com/hoOpC9z.gif New Lighting System This has been a long time coming, and it’s almost done: the lighting system in Scrap Mechanic has been completely reworked for the next chapter. This significantly improves the game’s visuals and further optimizes the frame rate for players. Now, you can enjoy better performance, even with higher resolutions like 4K. We can now run double the amount of light sources and are no longer limited to 24 cast shadows anymore; any light that casts a shadow can now render in real-time. But wait, there’s more: we now also have volumetric lighting in our engine that looks stunning. Even the particles are volumetrically lit! This all helps create the look and the mood that we always wanted to evoke in Scrap Mechanic, especially in the next chapter.

https://i.imgur.com/HRVbmL7.jpg Builder Quests We know that the world of Scrap Mechanic Survival is very pretty, but that it’s also pretty empty at the moment. The Challenge Mode update is finally here along with a bunch of other exciting additions! Initially, our focus was just to wrap up Challenge mode. However, we ended up adding a lot more than that. We ended up with a much bigger and better update that we hope has something for every kind of Mechanic. Here are a few highlights from this update: Challenge Mode 10 new challenges have been added, for a total of 50. Complete them all and unlock a very special Stuntman outfit that will prove that you have the chops to be a true Scrap Mechanic. Bots in Challenge Builder Give your custom-made challenges some more oomph with the new Character Spawner part. Spawn bots inside the Challenge Mode and create your own tailor-made shooter or any kind of challenge you can come up with! Survival Tutorial If you’re new to Scrap Mechanic, you might have trouble coming to grips with Survival mode. With that in mind, we have put together an onboarding experience that lets you learn the ropes that’s both fun and easy! The start of the game now includes a series of quests that teach you the basics, as well as the new Builder Guide part that helps you build a basic vehicle from start to finish. Optimizations Ragdoll simulation for knocked-out characters has been greatly optimized. This makes big bot raids run a lot smoother when a lot of them ragdoll at the same time. We have also worked on character collision detection, in order to further improve the game's performance. Improved Mod Support We have worked on greatly improving Mod support, so Modders can have a much wider range of options and possibilities than ever before. Our goal is to allow you to pretty much create your own games within Scrap Mechanic. To show that off, we went ahead and made our own little mod, called Scrap Mechanic Golf. To play it, download it from the Workshop. Then, head to the Game Mode selection and click the new Custom Games button in the upper right corner! What are you waiting for? Get out there and hit ‘em straight! https://i.imgur.com/2bAZnLe.jpg Scrap Mechanic Golf Also! new Mods by talented Mod creators are already starting to show up on the Workshop. This time we would like to highlight Raft Mechanic. A really impressive mod with quests, new parts, tools, and more! If you enjoy Scrap Mechanic and Raft, then this is a great mod to check out. Let's give these skilled creators some love! https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1829037288468061056/69CCC9BB3F2C1A7E108BFCD3178D3F3F62B968CE/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false Raft Mechanic Enjoy Mechanics! This has been on our secret to-do list for a very long time and we finally got around to making it happen. This new part lets you drive like a normal seat while also allowing you to freely turn it in all directions, as well as letting you build anything you like on the front: arm it with a mountable spudgun or equip it with drills for precision digging underground! These are just a few examples of all the ways you can use the Turret Seat. We had a ton of fun testing this new seat and we're confident that you will have a blast using it as well. https://i.imgur.com/Eyi0QYH.png https://i.imgur.com/vjvcL6o.png Sawbot We are showing off a few new helper bots in this dev blog, but this one is our new favorite. Previously, we revealed that wedges are finally coming to Scrap Mechanic. If you're looking to get wedges in survival, you will need to get your hands on this aggressive assistant! Just feed it any type of blocks you want and the sawbot will cut them in to perfect scalable wedges. https://i.imgur.com/bxUnQGJ.png https://i.imgur.com/mVGqkCz.png https://i.imgur.com/5C1EJvJ.png https://i.imgur.com/1BJIpoK.png Secret underground locations A lot of work has been done on the new underground locations and we still have a few left to get done. Here are some new places that we’ve been working on for the next chapter. We can’t go to much in to what they are so we leave it up to you to speculate for now. https://i.imgur.com/lFLxIYB.png Multi-component kit Whether you're looking to upgrade your gear to top-tier quality or craft some of the new items that you’ll find underground, you are going to need better component kits. The Ore Collector will gather rocks that you will mine underground and when it’s full, it will feed its payload to your newest helper ...Devblog 22 is here!Sep 17, 2021 - Community Announcementshttps://i.imgur.com/O60peaj.png Hi Mechanics! It’s that special time again when we open up and show off some of the content we’ve been working on at the Scrap Mechanic HQ. This is probably one of the most exciting devblogs we’ve done in a while, as we will be showing off our new digging system! We’re sorry for the long wait, but the features in this devblog have been in the making for a while. We’ve also been working on a lot of story-related things that we don’t want to spoil for you, so we won't reveal everything just yet! So let’s crack open a sunshake and dig in! https://i.imgur.com/C2mi8al.gif https://i.imgur.com/KpuBNJJ.gif https://i.imgur.com/vbfBCMR.gif https://i.imgur.com/A6EU5Uj.gif https://i.imgur.com/c5Qeg5r.gif https://i.imgur.com/NYi1lY7.png https://i.imgur.com/U5SCBdc.png https://i.imgur.com/UU4sWzm.png https://i.imgur.com/QAFLi1V.png https://i.imgur.com/nuUrJfM.png https://i.imgur.com/goRaYL8.png Underground digging and exploration The new chapter will come with a brand new island, housing a huge, collapsed mine and a massive mystery. The new location that you will get to explore will contain a lot of new content and underground biomes. Once in it, you will have to create a mining vehicle and start digging for resources while uncovering small and large cave systems. Some parts of the mines will require special types of drills to get past. In some cases, explosives will be needed. We put a lot of work into making vehicle digging into a fun and creative experience! Here are a few shots showing underground digging and exploration in action for the first time. You can also get a first glimpse of a very dangerous place: the underground station. Keep in mind that these shots don’t have the correct lighting and particles yet; everything will look better in the final version. https://i.imgur.com/UxjU5iY.gif https://i.imgur.com/eMUpYto.gif https://i.imgur.com/UBG6Sdr.gif https://i.imgur.com/oKynkvM.gif https://i.imgur.com/pUeaqyC.gif Sticky Wheels Update Here is a little update on the Sticky Wheels we’ve shown previously. We really love how they turned out! They work really well and have a nice, gooey look when you drive. You will definitely need these when digging in the mine. They will most likely have a pink/purple-colored goo by default instead of the yellow/green shown in the GIFs. We are also looking into letting you paint them in other colors. Currently, the Sticky Wheels are using chemicals as a resource, but we are still testing them out, so we can get the perfect balance between consumption and use-time. https://i.imgur.com/X4j4VaZ.gif https://i.imgur.com/Keg99vJ.gif https://i.imgur.com/c7pNN33.gif https://i.imgur.com/9fenvzQ.gif https://i.imgur.com/3SlhSzK.png https://i.imgur.com/CxfDTme.png Cablebot Update The Cablebots are really starting to shape up. The idea of this Q&A is to be informative and to not leave you hanging, while we are working on the next chapter. We have focused on your most commonly asked questions, as well as a few fun ones. Let us know if you would like us to do these Q&As from time to time in the comments below. Story & Next Chapter Q: When is the next chapter update coming? A: The honest answer is that we don't know yet. The next chapter is a big, ambitious update with a lot of new locations. New bots to fight. New interactive parts to craft with and new game mechanics. We don't want to commit to a release date just yet. If we did, we would be forced to cut corners later on. It would also stop us from adding new ideas that would make it better if they came up. We will make sure that the update is really fun to play and that it offers a lot of hours of playtime before we release it. It could be later this year or next year. But we are working on it as fast as we can, without cutting back on quality. A rough guess would be that we are 50% done. We will keep making dev blogs to keep you updated on our progress. Q: Will the scrapyard biome shown in some screenshots and concept art be added in a future update, or is it scrapped? A: The scrapyard biome shown in dev blog 13 is not really scrapped, but it is put on hold for now. The reason is that we took the story in a more interesting direction and the scrapyard didn't really fit as the next location. However, it might be included in a later update. We still have a lot of really great ideas for the scrapyard setting. Q: Will the next chapter bring an "end goal"? A: The next chapter will, for the first time, introduce a lot more story elements to Survival. The end of chapter will definitely answer a lot of questions. So yes, there is an end goal. Q: How many chapters are you planning on releasing and is there going to be a Scrap Mechanic 2? A: We don't think there will be a Scrap Mechanic 2. Mainly because there is still so much we can add to Scrap Mechanic now, when it comes to chapters. As long as a lot of players are playing Scrap Mechanic, we will keep adding to it. Upcoming Mechanics, Features & Fixes Q: Why is Scrap Mechanic lagging sometimes? Are you planning on fixing the lag when 2 large creations touch? A: We had an issue answering this question since it's pretty complex and hard to explain in depth without getting too technical. So we are glad it was brought up here, so we can try and give a longer and more in-depth response. First, it's important to say that Scrap Mechanic is a very difficult game to make. There are no limits to what you can do. At the same time, the game has physics and multiplayer as well. So it's a game that can always be improved and optimized. But since the beginning, we have been determined to grab the bull by the horns and stick to this path to create something unique and interesting. Scrap Mechanic is a game that runs on ou...Update 0.5.1Mar 31, 2021 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/11471984/01459a509dc273d3bb90923b30eeb2e98eed2880.png Hi Mechanics! The Creative Mode update is finally out and we are already looking into some additional fixes. Today we took care of a few reported crashes and some other issues. Bug fixes Fixed an issue where world builder worlds from previous versions of the game did not work. Fixed Connect Tool connection highlight color. Fixed a crash that could occur when clients joined the game with a tool equipped. Fixed an issue that caused creations to be missing on the first load of old save files. Modding Fixed a crash that occurred when loading invalid harvestable renderable json. Creative mode update 0.5.0Mar 30, 2021 - Community Announcementshttps://i.imgur.com/CIwzlIN.png Hi Mechanics! Creative mode Update 0.5.0 is finally here! New creative mode worlds Welcome to the new and updated creative mode! Not only did we make it look better to go hand in hand with the survival world but we also finally added water to the creative terrain. All trees can now be cut down and rocks can be drilled. Excellent for testing out ideas for your creations in Survival mode. We also gave the flat world an updated ground texture. The new one should give a much better sense of movement and speed. New capsules Both bot and animal capsules have been added to creative mode. Place them on the ground then shot or hit a capsule to release them into your world. There is a lot of fun things you can do with these. Check the useful chat commands below. Bot combat Paint bots in different colors and see them attack each other. This new feature is great fun and allows you to set up large bot fights. The red tape boat also got a slight redesign to make it easy to see the difference between blue and red when painted. We are very happy with this new feature turned out and we are excited to see how you use it. Gameplay tab and physics quality slider We added a new gameplay tab in the in-game options menu. This tab will let us add a mix of settings in the future for the player to adjust their gameplay and performance. First up is the physics quality slider. This slider is great for when setting up larger bot battles or when you are doing something where a lot of loose parts and blocks fall on the ground. It’s however not useful for creations with bearings unless you want to make wacky creations. This is just one stab towards making the game run even smoother and better. More to come! Custom main menu You can now decorate your main menu by pressing the blue pen icon on the bottom. This will take you into the main menu world where you can build. You can also spawn your favorite creation from the lift and have it on display. Currently, the main menu does not support moving bearings and is only for static creations. New useful chat commands Lastly! We also added a lot of fun and useful commands for creative mode. /night - Set night /day - Set day /noaggro - Bots do not aggro players /noaggrocreations - Bots do not aggro creations /aggroall - Notifies all bots of player position /popcapsules - Open all bot and animal capsules /killall - Kills all spawned units /place tree - Places a tree in creative mode /place stone - Places a stone in creative mode /place birch|spruce|leafy|pine - Places a specific tree type /dropscrap - Enables or disables Scrap Metal loot drops in creative mode (default off) /restrictions - Allows removing restricted objects in creative mode, like tree parts. /clear -Removes all creations from the entire world in creative mode. New devblog, coming through! There are more bots incoming in the next chapter: While traveling deep underground, you might encounter the cablebots: they travel in big numbers and love digging holes with their cable clippers. No one knows why the cablebots are that deep in the first place yet; perhaps you will find the answer to this mystery in a future update. Until then, you had best prep some chests with potatoes and dust off that spudgun; you’re going to need it. https://i.imgur.com/dKz9eIc.png Quest are coming Progress on the new quest system for the next chapter is moving along. The quests in the chapter will guide you through the story while letting you continue playing at your own pace. We will also be adding a dialogue system to the game, letting NPCS talk to you! We love how it feels and where it's heading. Here is an image of the player taking an incoming call. https://i.imgur.com/goVJ8od.png https://i.imgur.com/hVFr3UH.png Digital clock We have started work on a new interactive part. The next chapter will introduce a clock, so mechanics can check the time, anytime, whether they’re driving or at their base. But that’s not the best part about it: the clock will also allow the mechanic to set a specific time for it to interact with a trigger. Thanks to it, you should be able to set a time for your base defenses to turn on or off, so you can keep those uninvited nighttime visitors away! https://i.imgur.com/DAgT4vV.png https://i.imgur.com/x1Aga7h.png https://i.imgur.com/GGVmwKz.png https://i.imgur.com/nJq4upc.png Creative mode update In the Creative Mode update that’s just around the corner, we will be updating the terrain to include the same props as the world of Survival Mode. You will now be able to cut down trees and test out new ideas for lumber- or rock drilling-based creations. We also added water to some of the tiles, as well as a water border around the creative terrain world, so you can go on boat races with your friends! We also updated the flat world ground texture, since the old one was a bit out of date against the game's new visuals. We have also slightly increased the map size of both the terrain as well as flat world. You will have to create a new world to get the updated terrain however. The new props and water will not show up in old worlds. https://i.imgur.com/Tcd3L8e.png https://i.imgur.com/lVA3W7b.png Decorate the main menu Some mechanics might have been wondering about that odd background platform that is sitting in the middle of the main menu. We’re finally putting it to its intended, original use: mechanics will now be able to enter that world so they can build and decorate their main menu, simply by click...Devblog 20 is here!Dec 22, 2020 - Community Announcementshttps://i.imgur.com/goVbLKM.png Calling all Mechanics! 2020 is coming to a close and we’re here to end it on a good note with a special devblog! Here are some of the things we’ve been working on since the release of Scrap Mechanic’s Survival Mode earlier this year. To start, we have been hard at work on the next chapter and we will be announcing its official name at a later date. But until then, here are some of the things we managed to liberate from the Scrap HQ’s secret drawing board! https://i.imgur.com/fOicyRd.png https://i.imgur.com/d6EKxCH.png https://i.imgur.com/YrGSNdu.png https://i.imgur.com/YJqsZPQ.png https://i.imgur.com/VzYRYd5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/31Y52y6.png Going underground This new location includes new adventures and gameplay options that we can’t wait to share with you! This new chapter of Survival Mode adds new quests and NPCs that will take you to the next stop in your journey: the mining island. For the first time in Scrap Mechanic history, you will be delving deep into the planet’s mines, to uncover new, big secrets! Here’s a sneak peek into some features and concepts of the underground that are currently in progress. https://i.imgur.com/ZmdtuOU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/m2BjClw.png https://i.imgur.com/kImsEkt.png https://i.imgur.com/E3R6oCa.png https://i.imgur.com/gJH16iS.png https://i.imgur.com/8jytLvN.png https://i.imgur.com/IfhNZ5w.png Trash Bot It’s a good thing Scrap Mechanic doesn’t come with Smell-O-Vision! Introducing the biggest bot we’ve made so far: the Trash Bot. This smelly clanker is the very first boss of the game! Rumour has it that you can find it on the Warehouse rooftop, collecting junk. If you do run into him, you’d best have your spudgun at hand or you will end up in the trash with the rest of the smelly produce! https://i.imgur.com/SMi4k0l.png https://i.imgur.com/HpqafLv.png https://i.imgur.com/nqoW7cf.png Sticky wheels New update, new parts.
