Groovy skins and an insightful Explorer make their debut with The Storm's Wrath. Introducing Björn Cool and collected, Björn is ready to help his team and Mother achieve their objectives. Dual-wielding Hakkas and utilizing the keen senses of Bestial Rage, Björn is a melee master, fighting up close and personal. Björn’s signature weapon is the Hakkas - deadly weapons perfect for decimating close quarter opponents. Dual-wield these lethal ice picks for a one-two punch with additional bleed damage finishing off low health enemies. Upgrade his weapon to wield a different weapon type with exciting attack variations. Quickly hammer your opponents with a lunge attack or use a spinning ax whirlwind attack to easily take down a mob of enemies. For those who prefer a slightly ranged option, upgrade to a throwable Hakkas that sparks a lightning chain reaction between enemies. Björn’s signature ability, Bestial Rage, is ideal for his preferred close quarters combat. Activating his ability will show enemy players on the map, allowing Björn to track down his prey. If the enemy is already in sight, use the increased movement speed to get within range and take down your opponents with quick melee attacks and improved Stamina recovery. Björn will be in the Shop starting March 23rd. The Storm's Wrath The next highly anticipated season arrives shortly! Unlocking the Battle Pass immediately grants your first reward, introducing a brand new skin line - Jae’s Wet Works! No downtime is expected for this hotfix. Here’s what to expect in this hotfix: Bug Fixes: Fixed: Twitch Drops rewards sometimes didn’t display in the client Fixed: No Salvage dropped after defeating Bulwark. Bulwark now drops Salient Q-Vault Fixed: Several instances where players get stuck and were unable to move Keep Warm, Midwinter Fight and Flight UpdateFeb 23, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsExplorers, We’ll be performing an update on Thursday, February 24th at 8 AM PT / 4 PM GMT. Downtime is expected to last for two hours and the servers will be unavailable during this time. Here’s what to expect in this update: New Enemies Outlander Boss: Bulwark A new, terrifying boss, Bulwark, roams the frozen wasteland. Unlike other Outlander bosses, Bulwark isn’t found just in Outlander Outposts. Like Sluka, Bulwark can be found in any location as a late game boss. Bulwark is a hard-hitting, heavily armored Outlander armed with two sturdy shields and heat seeking rockets and traveling with Elite Outlanders. Proceed with extreme caution and consider attacking from the sides and rear if you can’t shoot through his shields. Nightmare Wolves The wildlife in Cascade Springs can be dangerous to the unaware - especially a pack of hungry wolves. Even more deadly than the wolves you’re used to facing is the Nightmare wolf. These special wolves are stronger and fiercer than normal wolves. Pay attention after killing a pack, as a Nightmare wolf could come back from the grave to haunt you… New Items With this update, we’re introducing two new Craftable items. These items can also be found in caches in Cascade Springs. Portable Fire Staying warm is key to surviving this frozen wasteland. The cozy Portable Fire provides AOE (area of effect) warmth for you and your teammates to chase away the chill. Unlike the Thermal Boost, this item does not stack in your inventory. Carrying multiple Portable Fires will prevent you from carrying other items. Lightning Grenade Perfect for dealing with a mob, the Lightning Grenade releases arcs of lightning that bounces between enemies. Jump Cannon There are several ways to get around Cascade Springs: use a vehicle, walk, run, or slide! Keen Explorers will find a new way to explore the world and collect the data Mother requires via Jump Cannons! Running onto a pad will launch you into the air, flying you towards your next destination. The direction for the Jump Cannon is fixed, so if you decide to make the leap you’ll need to head where the winds of fate take you. Rumor has it that careful maneuvering can lead some enemies to use a Jump Cannon; however, trying to jump a vehicle will end in failure. Game Changes Reload Indicator We’ve added a reload indicator underneath the crosshair. You can quickly tell how close you are to reloading your weapon and getting back into the fight! Who Killed Me In a hectic fight, it may be difficult to determine who killed you - and how. We’ve improved the UI in Spectator Mode to call out exactly how you died and by whom. XP Feed Improvements You earn XP for different actions like collecting Data and killing enemies, but it’s hard to track how much XP you earn each time. With this update, you’ll see how much XP is earned for each action slightly below the reticle, making it easy to know how much a Bloatbile kill is worth. Letty EMP Jump Jump Cannon’s aren’t the only way to leave the ground! Poi...Season Interlude ExtendedFeb 9, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsExplorers, The Season Interlude was originally planned to end on February 16th. There will be downtime during this update, which is expected to last 2 hours. Here’s what to expect in this update: Shotgun Damage: “We’re fixing the crazy shotgun damage.” Currently, shotgun damage isn’t in a healthy spot. This is largely due to recently fixing a bug associated with our anti-cheat measures which caused shotgun damage to increase. A secondary cause is a recent optimization change. We halved the number of pellets and doubled the damage per pellet, leading to a net zero change in damage. Coupled with the anti-cheat fix, this led to the perception that damage had increased. With this hotfix, we’re lowering the damage for all shotguns, to compensate for our anti-cheat measures. This tuning change should bring shotgun damage to its intended level. We will continue to monitor the damage output for all shotguns, to ensure that the compensation tuning is sufficient. Bug Fix: Fixed: Sometimes when a player jumps on a hearth, they are teleported to another location Fixed: Players unable to pick up items from rooftops covered with snow Fixed: Improved accuracy when firing the sniper rifles after sprinting Fixed: Incorrect collision model after driving over a bridge Fixed: Outlanders can get stuck in the gap between the solar panels at ‘Array’ Fixed: Several instances where Kali’s cape moved unnaturally or clipped through her body Fixed: Several instances where the First Frontier Cruz skin clipped unnaturally Fixed: Unnatural movement for Halden’s Classic skin during some emotes Join the Festival!Dec 1, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsIntrepid Explorers, Winter has truly come to Cascade Springs. Say hi, have fun and remember to dunk the devs! The Coming Months For ScavengersOct 21, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHi Explorers, @JoshingtonState and @ModularMareBear here! It’s been a while since we’ve written one of these, so we just want to start by saying that we’re massively grateful to everyone in the community for your continued passion and excitement for everything the team here at Midwinter is working on. We all feel very heartened to have such a fantastic community behind us all the way. Now, as we get closer to the end of the year, we wanted to give an update on a number of different things that we have going on here at Midwinter. We know that you’re all very eager for news on consoles, new features and the upcoming full release, so we wanted to address what the coming months looks like and where we’ll be focusing our efforts to the benefit of improving the Scavengers experience for everyone. 2022 IS THE NEW 2021 The first thing - to get it out of the way - is that we are no longer targeting general availability for Scavengers on PC in 2021. That means that we will be remaining in Early Access through the rest of 2021 and into the new year. There are a number of decisions behind the shift but it ultimately comes down to our commitment to quality. We’re a small development team, and it’s important to us that we do not compromise when it comes to the player experience. We’ve always stated that Early Access is (and continues to be) an extension of our previous testing cycles. As we reflect on the journey to date, we all feel that the transition to full release needs to be a meaningful advancement from where we are today. Which leads to the question... WHAT’S NEXT? Over the coming months, we are going to do everything we can to raise the bar when it comes to Scavengers. To do that, we’ve had to be honest with ourselves with how we approach development and support the title as it stands today. To be frank, there are going to be fewer updates as the team focuses on what we feel will be exciting and momentous updates to the game that will take shape in early 2022. What does this look like? The future of Expedition mode: We’re making big changes to the core mode in Scavengers, and that’s why we need to focus our attention on getting it just right. What we can tell you right now is that we’re striving to make matches feel less repetitive, and give you a more dynamic experience every time you hit the snow. We’ll be revealing more details about this in the weeks ahead. At the end of the month, we will be turning off Horde Mode. We know that this will be disappointing for some players, and it is not a decision we take lightly (and it may return at some point in the future). However, we have seen a steady decline in player numbers for the mode over recent months, which made it less viable to support it going forward. This extra team bandwidth will be put towards enhancing the game's core experience. There will be fewer ScavLab events in the future. We have been working closely with Improbable’s London studio on ScavLab over the past several months. However, goi...October 21st UpdateOct 20, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsExplorers, We’ll be performing an update on Thursday, October 21st, around 8 AM PT / 4 PM BST. So, every week, we'll share our thoughts on some of the top community feedback topics that we’ve been seeing on our platforms. We may work on some of these for a future update; some of these could be part of a long-term plan and might not have a date for when they’ll arrive in Scavengers. Others, we may be investigating or considering adding, but can’t promise that you’ll see them in the game. Finally, for some, we want to continue hearing your feedback and thoughts on them, to ensure we’re considering the right way to approach it. Let’s break them down: Interesting: We’re interested in adding these to the game and are currently looking into how it might work. We don’t have any definite plans, so they may or may not be added in a future update. Rescue Beacon & R.A.S.P: Currently, there are a plethora of Rescue Beacons available to loot from caches, leading to maps littered with R.A.S.P evacuation sites. The number of Rescue Beacons available is tuned a bit too high right now. We’re working on adjusting the quantity that you can find in the world, to...September 15th UpdateSep 14, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsExplorers, We’ll be performing an update on Wednesday, September 15th, around 8 AM PT / 4 PM BST. Controller Sensitivity When we reduced the controller sensitivity, we read many comments that the sensitivity was too sluggish, especially when turning. There are now 20 levels of controller sensitivity to select from The highest sensitivity level is a little over twice as sensitive Bug Fixes Fixed: Player sometimes gets stuck in a slide animation Fixed: Already purchased Shop items incorrectly shown as available Fixed: Growth Cluster map icon shows the incorrect color when the Keeper is engaged Fixed: Gorthokk is sometimes unresponsive Fixed: Clone Kit sometimes spawns players underground Fixed: In Horde Mode, AI enemies sometimes do not spawn correctly, ending the wave Keep Warm, Midwinter This Week’s Dev FocusSep 13, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsExplorers, Check out our latest Weekly Focus blog! We’re bumping up the sensitivity at the highest level to almost double what it is now. You will have 20 different sensitivity levels to select between once this change goes live. Improvements to Fog of War: Last week, we introduced Fog of War, which limits visibility on the map and mini-map. This week, we’re working on improving some Fog of War functions. Bug Fixes: We’re continuing to investigate and fix bugs and issues that crop up. When that happens, we’ll try to explain a bit of our thoughts around design. Scavengers will be unavailable for downtime starting at 8 AM PT / 4 PM BST. This downtime is expected to last for approximately 1 hour. R.A.S.P Evacuation You know what to expect from matches by now: teams of Explorers collect data for Mother on Earth with a single Dropship sent to evacuate the survivors after the Expedition is finished. But while competition is a healthy part of the experience, we wanted to re-evaluate that approach, exploring new strategic opportunities for different playstyles. R.A.S.P evacuations are being introduced to Expedition Mode, and offer Explorers an emergency evac route, allowing those who have completed their mission to leave on their terms. How to Use the R.A.S.P Explorers can use a Rescue Beacon to summon a R.A.S.P Rocket during a match for a quick evac with their Datapoints. A Rescue Beacon can be found in Item Cache (Backpack icon) camps. While you can store more than one Rescue Beacon in your Inventory, they do not stack. When a R.A.S.P is summoned, there will be a global announcement within the match and an icon will appear on the map, alerting allies and enemy players. Interact with the R.A.S.P to start the evacuation sequence. After starting the evacuation sequence, you have 20 seconds before the R.A.S.P leaves the planet. Anyone, allies or enemy players, who are within the evacuation zone when the countdown ends will be extracted. Datapoints, EXP & Salvage When you leave on the R.A.S.P, any Datapoints that you’re carrying will be banked. If any teammates don’t extract with the R.A.S.P, your banked Datapoints will contribute to their score when the match ends. You’ll earn EXP based on your performance and amount of Datapoints banked up to when you extract. If all teammates leave on the R.A.S.P, then you’ll EXP for all collected Datapoints. However, if anyone is left behind, you won’t receive credit for any unbanked Datapoints that they are carrying. You will only extract with the Salvage collected by any teammates leaving on the R.A.S.P. You can read more about the adjustments made to how Salvage is awarded below. Salvage Changes Originally, there was only one way to earn Salvage: by extracting on the Dropship. However, since the launch of Early Access, we have made it a bit less punishing, adapting it so you could receive Salvage not just by extracting, but also if you were eliminated or left on the planet. Since then, we’ve added additional ways to earn Salvage and Research materials and components through Challenges and Battle Pass rewards. And in this update, we’re also adding a new extraction method with the R.A.S.P which will allow you to extract before the Dropship arrives. These additional ways to earn Salvage and make progress on your Research projects have established a more meaningful and rewarding experience. To reflect that, starting with this hotfix, you will need to successfully extract in order to earn Salvage. You will keep...
