Sailaway The Sailing Simulator

Confusion about upgradeMay 16, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThere still seems to be confusion about updating a previously bought Sailaway 1 license to Sailaway II Let's be clear once and for all: There is nothing that Sailaway 1 users had in October 2019 that they do not have access to anymore in Sailaway II. Without having to pay anything. This was settled 7 months ago. https://steamcommunity.com/app/552920/discussions/0/1637549649095491847/ It is sad to see that people are still deliberately posting negative reviews because they think they need to pay for an update.Sailaway 2.08Dec 13, 2019 - Community Announcements- Fixed some of the issues with special characters øöé (in some cases it will help to type the text again, because it was stored incorrectly in the database) - Added a tiny button next to the Depth indicator to overrule the depth. This will help sailing areas that have incorrect depths. It only works if you're not in a race or challenge and do not have other people on board. It also doesn't work when offline. - The measurement tool in the map didn't always show. - The foils on the Imoca would show water splashing up at the extended position even though they were half or fully retracted. - Badges didn't always show in the leader board - The stars in the night sky were aligned wrong - The last position of the boat in the boat chooser showed N/S instead of E/W next to the longitude - The effect of the traveler on the angle of the mainsail was reversed - The texture and customization settings of the mizzen stay sail on the Ketch were not not saved correctly Sailaway IINov 4, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsA major update of Sailaway is released today. All existing users will automatically update and will take all their boats, groups and team memberships with them. Full release notes can be found here https://sailaway.world/cgi-bin/sailaway.world/post.pl?p=releasenotes The update contains a full rewrite of the multiplayer communication, the physics, the terrain rendering and the handling of trimlines. This makes the simulation better, smoother and more fun. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/27578180/e7185e7a2be3ac566570cd5eef04c44e252e0d3a.jpg Information about The Irregular Corp and SailawaySep 10, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHello Sailaway Pioneers, The Irregular Corporation has been honoured to work alongside Richard over the last few years to help bring his passion of sailing to more people but that journey for us has now come to an end as our existing publishing agreement expires. This might be the end of our journey with Sailaway but Richard has lots of exciting plans to continue to improve Sailaway moving forward so we hope you continue to enjoy your time with Sailaway, Richard and most importantly, sailing. The whole Irregular Corporation team wishes Richard and Sailaway the best for the future and we look forward to what is coming next! Happy sails, The Irregular CorporationWorld Editor v2.0.02Mar 20, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings Pioneers! We have made some improvements to the World Editor. Here's a list of what's been changed. What's New! Map loads faster now. Land renders faster and has a higher resolution. Improved land textures. Satellite imagery is used to make a difference between the rendering of desert areas and more fertile areas. Accumulated snow is now related to the actual temperature as well as terrain height. OpenStreetMap buildings and objects are constantly repositioned to keep them at the correct position with respect to the camera. OpenStreetMap buidings that are not situated on land are disabled. Added editor for seamarks. We hope to see you out on the waters soon! Happy sailing everyone! The Sailaway TeamSailaway v1.1.09 - Greetings From Sailaway!Dec 17, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings Pioneers! We have just crossed the Atlantic Ocean and we really wish you were here! We're just writing to tell you that with our latest update you can now show everyone where you've just sailed to - as a postcard! Capture some amazing screenshots of your voyage and email them to your friends and family! What's New! New Features and Changes The screenshot utility now shows your screenshot in a window. Screenshots can be emailed as a postcard to a friend! Challenge organizers can now exclude very fast racing boats to prevent them from taking up the top places in the rankings. When sailing offline, the foils, keel and waterballast are now also auto-adjusted when the autopilot is following the laid out track and the boat has to tack upwind. Goose-winging when sailing down wind has been made a lot easier. Added keyboard shortcuts to flip waterballast, foils and keel. Bug Fixes The camera would sometimes shake when you were controlling a trimline. Some users notified us of boats becoming too unstable when going downwind. Shortkeys were not disabled when you entered the name of a trip in the trip library. A new update has landed and it's going to turn your world upside down! Have you always wanted to see what the underside of your boat looks like? Well now you can! Your boat can now be tipped over by waves - why not find a storm and find out? Or attempt to not find out. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27578180/3e000895d6799644bde08fbbf8fd8d3c6463b3a6.png New Features Foils, Waterballast and Canting keel can be controlled in the navigation window and has a direct effect on boat heel. Your own body weight and that of your crew now has effect on boat heel. Avatar images of the crew members are displayed at the position they are seated when you hover the mouse over it. Waterballast has effect on wet surface and waterline. Keels are tilted visibly. Foils and keels of other boats are now synchronized. A 3rd instrument has been added to the navigation window. It becomes visible when the window is made wide enough for it to fit. The instrument shows GPS position, depth, VMG, windshifts and heel. Computation of boat heel used to have damping at greater angles to prevent boats from tipping over. This damping is removed, and boats can capsize now. Heel is computed with respect to the horizon instead of the boat as it moves in the waves. As one of the results, boats can also be tipped over by waves. When the boat is visible on the map, the optimal course and shortest distance to the location under the cursor are shown. (The optimal course uses the curvature of the earth). https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27578180/80e57077a53b81cb2dd49545968531d3f4abc555.png Changes Foil drag incorporated in the speed algorithm, which makes it disadvantegeous to extend foils at low windspeeds. Foil lift now has more effect on boat wet surface, and angle in the water. Foils give more lift and the nose comes up a bit more. Boat heel has an increased effect on drag, which reduces boat speed. Computation of sideways drift is altered and produces more drift now. Wind drag computations have been altered, which makes planing boats a bit slower downwind. Polars have altered slightly due to the new heel and drag computations. Color correction has been changed so that there is less saturation at night, but better visibility. Bug Fixes Navigation window would be displayed above the top edge of the screen after a screen resize. Bottom and top part of navigation window had incorrect height after a screen resize. Latitude lines on the map where a few seconds off near the poles. The displayed angle of boat heading in the map was incorrect near the poles. Gennaker was raised too soon in auto sail mode. Boats would tend to dive down too much. Waterlevel under the boat is artificially lowered to prevent it from showing though the cockpit bottom. But the amount now gets reduced as the (foiling) boat sits higher on the water. Foil lift was not yet implemented in boats of other sailors that were visible on your sc...Have you played Sailaway The Sailing Simulator?Nov 29, 2018 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. (more…) Sailaway Update v1.1.07Nov 20, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello Pioneers! A new update has docked and as always, we have added a few new additions and fixes. But we have also added one thing that we know sailors have wanted for a very long time... Polars! What's New in 1.1.07! The main menu screen to switch boats now uses the same scrollable interface as other menu options. When selecting a boat, you can choose between team boats and your own boats with a list box. The images of the boats in the main menu are replaced by automatic screenshots of your own boat. All boats in the main menu have an Info button that displays a window with the dimensions of the boat and a computer generated polar diagram. The items in the listboxes in the main menu screens now have the correct height. When quitting the game, all settings that influence sailing offline are checked and displayed on screen. Sometimes going over the start line or passing a buoy is correctly detected by the game and communicated in chat, but not registered in the database. If an error in the connection or handling of the web request occurs, the game will now retry the registration. The display of the boat's log can now be switched on and off in the map. All the map buttons that belong to editing, resetting or selecting voyages have been moved into a small submenu. Automatic adding log entries is now blocked when a tutorial is active. When you hover the mouse over a waypoint in the map, the shortest distance between that waypoint and the previous waypoint is displayed. Badges for completed challenges were not always awarded. Spanish translations of trim info tab have been edited by Tonique. Join the Discord crew! We have a Discord server with a dedicated area for all our Sailaway fans! The Sailaway Team Sailaway Update v1.1.06Nov 5, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello Pioneers! We have added some great new features, and made some bug fixes. What's New! New internal registration system for race results and challenge results. New ranking pages for races and challenges that include ranks like "Best sailor of the month", "Best sailor per class", "Best heavy weather sailor", etc. The boat now runs aground gradually when the bottom scrapes the ground. It suddenly slows down and tips forward. Waypoints would become corrupted when a new waypoint was added and removed without ever releasing the mouse. The order in which Terrain Edits were applied to the world was random. They are now applied in the order of their resolution. The smallest edit areas with the highest resolution are now applied last and thus overrule any previous terrain edits with a lower resolution. When checking the depth below the boat a lower resolution of the heightmaps was sometimes used when a higher resolution was not yet downloaded. Occasionally this resulted in incorrect running aground messages. Sometimes the rows of a list were displayed on 1 line. Especially the list of badges in the user profile panel showed this problem often. A new workaround for this bug has been implemented. Please let us know if the problem persists. OSM buildings previously failed to load. Join the Discord Family We have a Discord server with a dedicated area for all of our Sailaway fans! The Sailaway TeamSailaway v1.1.04 and World Editor v1.0.06Oct 17, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHey Pioneers! There have been a whole boat load of new fixes and improvements that have gone into both Sailaway and the World Editor. We have also added a new voting system for edits made using the World Editor. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27578180/aee5ad338348f6be938d5a7b6d6725de3b21dec8.jpg Sailaway v1.1.04 Added about 50,000 new buoys and lights from the OpenSeaMap database, including the ones that were registered as a building instead of a singlepoint node. Yellow lights where imported from the OpenSeaMap database as white. The height of the light beacons was previously incorrect. Fixed glitches on the teak deck of the catamaran. Toggling through the camera positions would skip the helmsman position. Camera was not stable when a line was selected while sailing in tall waves. World edits are now indicated with a white rectangle in the map. World edits have an info panel that is accessible by pressing the white "i" in the map. The info panel offers the opportunity to contact the creator and/or report the edit. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27578180/031a07001ea2c0f77152ca760e114e73bda63a89.jpg World Editor v1.0.06 Deactivate function has been removed. In World Edit list, the text "deactivated" is shown when an edit has been downvoted. Deselecting an 3D object is now possible. When you add a new 3D object when nothing is selected it is possible to remove an OSM building without selecting a 3D model file. Happy Sailing! The Sailaway TeamSailaway v1.1.03Oct 15, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello Pioneers! We have a new update for you all. Plenty of fixes and improvements here for you to jump on board with! When the boat runs aground, it was teleported to some nearby position with sufficient depths that the server located for you. Now the boat keeps track of its own positions and when you press "help me please" after you've run aground, the boat is teleported back in its footsteps. When the camera was in orbit mode, changing the angle to look up from below the waves would not only limit the camera to stay above the water, but also move the camera closer without zooming in. This is now fixed so the camera stays above the waves but the distance to the boat doesn't change. When the camera is in orbit mode, the focus point can now be moved with the WASD/arrow keys and by dragging the mouse while holding down the right mouse button. When the camera is moved away from the boat, it will be detached from the boat and can then move around freely. The World edits are ordered on publication date so that the terrain heights from the latest edit will overrule earlier edits for the same region. Only published World edits are now applied. In the previous version published Word edits by other users + all your own world edits were applied, but this was confusing. The 2 featured races that are shown in the main menu, will now also contain user-organized races. Tall buildings were rendered behind the sky layer There were background processes that downloaded detailed maps, while they could use an already downloaded low resolution map instead. The size of the wait cursor has been reduced and it will appear less frequent Happy Sailing! The Sailaway TeamWorld Editor 1.0.05Oct 9, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHey Pioneers, Just to let you know, we have fixed a couple of issues with the World Editor. When inserting a new WorldEdit, the insert was executed multiple times. When an OSM building was selected to be replaced by a user-created 3D model, the building was not always removed. The select panel, with a list of OSM objects is now ordered on the distance to the placed 3D object. Thanks again for all your support! Removed the 2 extra winch handles on the hydrofoil 32' Offshore Racer Happy Sailing The Sailaway TeamSailaway Update V1.0.12 - A new boat and some fixes!Jul 18, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHey Pioneers! It’s been awhile but hopefully what I have to share today is worth the wait. First off, big news, it’s a new boat! A beautiful 32' Offshore Racer with hydrofoils, inspired by the Figaro Beneteau 3. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27578180/4974be2cd2527a9d7bdceac3ff59cd636cc29d09.png We’ve also fixed a boatload of bugs and as some you may already noted we’ve made a change to leave the offline sailing penalty in the players hands. Now the organizer of the event is in control whether that penalty is on or off. Full Patch notes Added the new hydrofoil 32' Offshore Racer. Changed routines for particles, floatation, boat friction and boat stability to accommodate hydrofoils. Boat names were sometimes partially occluded by the hull of the boat. Small bugs in displaying lines that are being controlled. The list of lines to be controlled with the Q/E keys no longer shows trim lines for sails that aren't raised except their halyard or furl line). Helping hand button no longer pulls lines of sails that aren't raised. Helping hand now says: Easing genoa halyard from 100 to 0% to make the genoa more round. Improved autofocus feature. Saving and restoring the size of the navigation window sometimes resulted in wrong sizes and wrong positions. Extended the theoretical global sailing area from S80 - N80 degrees to S89 - N89 degrees. The penalty for offline sailing in long distance races and challenges can now be set by the organizer of the event. The color of foils were not copied onto the boat when a Steam workshop item was applied. We are still working away hard on the map editor and we’ll giving you more information on how you can influence the direction of this in an upcoming update. If you have a bug you'd like to report from this update, please follow the guide for 'How to report a bug' and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum. Happy Sailing, The Sailaway TeamSailaway Update V1.0.09 - Sharing your voyages with ease!May 3, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello Pioneers! Since our last update opened up challenges to everyone, there have been plenty created which has meant we needed to divide these up a bit better to make things easier to find. In addition, we have also made it possible to share voyages from your library with other sailors so if you have a good trip saved now is the time to share it with others! This update includes the following fixes/improvements: The Challenges menu is now split into Official, Long, Medium and Short challenges. The Races menu is now split into Official (upcoming only), User Created (upcoming only) and Past Races. Both the Challenge and Race menus now show the total distance of the course. Both the Challenge, Race and Voyages menus now have a search box. Saved voyages can now be shared; shared voyages will now appear in the Voyages menu under Activities. Voyages will also show their total distance The shader for the map and trim tab of the navigation window has been modified to support older versions of DirectX and OpenGL, this should allow older hardware to see the previous map update changes that were made. Anchored boats should now stay in place. Player created badges should now display properly on players boats. Skill level preset has now been moved to its correct place under 'Settings for all your boats'. Adjusted the offline sailing routines so that online sailing is more worthwhile. Work is ongoing on a new boat and we can't wait to share some more details on this in the near future! If you have a bug you'd like to report from this update, please follow the guide for 'How to report a bug' and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum. Happy Sailing, The Sailaway TeamSailaway Update V1.0.08 - Player Created Badges & Challenges!Apr 5, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello Pioneers! We have always wanted to provide more options for players to make their own mark on Sailaway, the first steps were with player created races and liveries and from today we have expanded this a bit further with more to come in the future. This update includes the following fixes/improvements: Players can now create their own challenges, like the race system before you can access this creation via: https://www.sailawaysimulator.com/player-created-events/ These challenges will have their own leaderboards. Players can now upload their own badges to be given as rewards for both races and challenges. Fixed the bug where the text in the stats tab in the user profile was overlapping. Fixed a bug that caused some new users accounts to not get created correctly. Fixed a rare bug with data importing to the backend servers. In case you missed them, Richard has recently published a couple of blogs on some of the things he has been working on recently: Improving the map Improving trim line selection Both worth a read if you are interested in the challenges of developing Sailaway. If you have a bug you'd like to report from this update, please follow the guide for 'How to report a bug' and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.
