RuneScape Dragonwilds

Our Vision For The Future | A letter from our EP and our Creative DirectorJun 11, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsFrom Mod Dutch (Executive Producer) Hello adventurers,  I want to thank you for your overwhelming support for RuneScape: Dragonwilds since our release. Seeing your enthusiasm and excitement at our work has been incredibly motivating and we are excited to share more with you today.| Honestly, we did not expect that the game would immediately do as well as it did—it took us by surprise and, straight talk: we were generally expecting things to move at a much slower pace of uptake after our shadow drop in April. This meant that communication-wise, we were a bit too slow in catching up with the hype and the discourse, and what we learned from this is that we should have spoken to you a lot sooner. With today's blog it is our aim to start on a road of comms improvement. Expect regular comms from now on, and increased clarity about the progress we’re making. WE’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE (EXCEPT DEEPER INTO ASHENFALL, AND BEYOND)  Important to understand is how much the development team loves this game and how committed they are to do right by it. A lot of hours were lovingly spent on building the experience that players enjoyed when the game became available in April, and we are going to create more game, more content, more survival for you to enjoy. We will not say goodbye to this project (even if our silence suggested otherwise,) and all of us at Jagex stands behind our conviction that there is more Dragonwilds to build. More RuneScape adventure, more skills, more dragon-slaying, more quests and equally, further evolution of the game itself. At this point I cannot give everything away, but the intent is for Dragonwilds to be around for many more years, and to grow into a hobby game worth your time. We set out on this journey several years ago with a clear vision of what we wanted to make: a survival game that concentrated the RuneScape experience into something that could be experienced with friends, shared together cooperatively or alone, within a more compact, accessible way. Our vision hasn't changed, and we've not compromised on that. We're committed to shaping this experience into something truly worthy of the RuneScape name, while also making something that brings a fresh take on the Survival genre. We're listening to you (wherever you post your opinions,) asking questions when we can (player surveys,) and taking on your feedback.  Sharing our thoughts on future development this early will mean that you need to wait some time to play them, however, it is important we talk about them now for two reasons: 1) You know we're actually working on things.  2) We can hear your thoughts on them.  On that point, let's talk development.  WILL THEY, OR WON’T THEY? We’ve seen a fair few comments online that expressed a worry from players that we kicked this game out of the door and sent it out into the wilderness to get PK’ed, or worse, forgotten. The worry that we’d abandon Dragonwilds without improvement to the experience, without shipping additional, meaningf...0.8 Update | Coming June 17th!Jun 10, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsAre you excited? The studio says the vast majority of cuts are being made in "non-game development roles," and won't have any impact on the future development... This is going to be a regularly scheduled piece from us with the aim of checking in with the community. It's a look back at what we've done so far, tell you what we've heard from you (Spoiler: it's a lot.), and a chance to show you where we're going. Over a month ago now (can you believe it?!), we launched RuneScape: Dragonwilds into Early Access. So, let's take a look into what's been happening! Update When? In June, we're hoping to launch the first of what we consider "quarterly updates". The intention is to always deliver an update at the end of a quarter - so, what is a quarter? At the end of every 3 month cycle, you can expect an update from us. These are consistent targets we aim for that you can expect to land in your update box on Steam. These aren't necessarily tied to seasons, and aren't seasonal updates. We want to make sure that we're setting a reasonable and transparent expectation of when we're delivering updates. These are "Spotlight", or "Showcase" or "Tentpole" updates that will be hitting major targets on our roadmap. On the subject of roadmap, we've been hard at work, listening to your feedback and ingesting a lot of data. I'd like to invite you to sit down with our EP, Mod Dutch, to talk all about our Roadmap once 0.8 is released, and we'll be able to take a broader look ahead at what's coming. We'll share more about when that will be at the end of June. Right, that's a lot of talking about the future. Now, to the past! What Have We Done? We released what we've been internally calling "0.7" as our Early Access build of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. This is the heart, the foundation, of what we're aspiring to build with the game. Dragon-slaying, skill-spelling, survival-crafting goodness. We've had so much feedback, some of it really useful and insightful. We launched the game into Early Access with 0.7.1, and hotfixed a boatload of issues thanks to Mod Bakes and the QA Team. That put us at 0.7.1.4, before we launched 0.7.2. 0.7.2 toned down Velgar attacks, base raids and "Hunted" events, as well as fixing a bunch of crashes, bugs and shenanigans that were surfaced by you lovely lot getting to grips with the game. 0.7.3 added Cloud Saves, fixes to Velgar Meteor attacks, Quest Inventory fixes and a long list of adjustments to particular elements and issues we saw raised in the Discord and on our socials. Phew! And that brings us to here! So, next question from you will obviously be: What Are We Doing? 0.8, of course! We're working on a structure of releases that gives our (very small!) team time to focus in on the important stuff - we're currently aiming to have regular updates building towards larger-scale Major Updates (in this case, 0.10 - Fellhollow!). These tentpoles are the milestones of our year, so we orient ourselves around those. That sounds like a long time to wait between "content" updates but we consider these as expansion-sized updates, with quarterly beats be...RuneScape: Dragonwilds creative director says survival crafting has more in common with MMOs than you might think: 'It's almost like the genre was born from MMOs'May 14, 2025 - PC GamerWhen Jagex unveiled it was making RuneScape: Dragonwilds—a survival crafting game that cribs more than a few elements from its long-running MMO—I was curious, if not a little hesitant. I couldn't help but wonder how certain elements would translate cross-genre. Turns out, pretty well... Better fix for completing quests with a full inventory. No more chucking your materials before talking to Zanik! The Goblin in the Vertentis Kara Vault will be more noticeable I know that Goblins aren't famously talkative but Spitfoot is important, so we can't have you missing them. AI Status Effect immunities have all been checked & should be working correctly. Fix for ash log duplication in the Shattered Plains Whenever you see something like this, a wizard did it. Fixes to a few areas in the world where players can get stuck. Improvements to reduce client desync which means that ranged combat in multiplayer worlds should feel extra nice. Respawned bloodwood sap can now be gathered. This one's got us feeling all sappy. Controller - "LB" works correctly in the crafting menu. Continued localisation fixes for missing translations and cut-off text. A couple of typo fixes in quests and journal entries. Chests you are interacting with when you die are no longer locked forever. Listen, we know that Death has agreed to overlook your mortality while you're here, but there's clearly some things we didn't iron out with Ol' Boney first. XP balancing for Splinter. We saw some hair-raising numbers coming through from usage on this so we're tweaking to bring this down to a more reasonable place Beards no longer clip through helmets. Turns out our helmets can contain the mightiest beard! Blood VFX will be in the right place on smaller AI. Kebbits may seem cute but their teleporting blood was a little offputting. Your own gravestone VFX should be a different colour to everyone else's. More crash fixes. I'd sit and watch him play without ever understanding what was going on, but the little people wore funny hats which was enough to keep me captivated. Ghornfell Raids (Goblin Raid Parties) Cooldown increased from 2 in-game days to 4 days. There's actually a handful of these raids with different raid party compositions, but they average out to to 4 days now. Half as commonplace now. Ghornfell Base Raids Grace Period increased from 9 in-game days to 12 in-game days before the raid can happen. Chance to occur decreased from 10% to 5%, every event tick. Cooldown increased from 2 days to 3.75 days. Ghornfell Hunted Events Chance to occur decreased from 10% to 5%, every event tick. Cooldown increased from 1 day to 2.25 days. Velgar Events Velgar Meteor Barrages reduced from 5 to 2 per meteor event, addressing the drift towards tedium as this event outstays its welcome. "Poison Breath" event is now only poison breath strafing runs. Also included... Improved desync issues for clients when performing combat or gathering actions. Reduced frequency and intensity of Velgar events, and multiple events should not trigger simultaneously any more. Velgar and His Goblin Companions should give you some breathing room now. Quests awarding non-quest items can now be properly completed even if your inventory is full. World fixes to some geometry and LODs that weren't looking quite right. A couple of missing SFX issues resolved. All spells should now have a description within the spell wheel. Combat fixes where actions could happen without their representative animation playing. Bedroll no longer glints as though it is a resource. Bed is a treasure, but it shouldn't shimmer like one. Hostile AI is no longer immune to Bleed... (Except for Vault Guardians who can't bleed because... well... what would they bleed? Blood runes?) Multiple Crash fixes We've adjusted XP balancing around purifying water. Many Localisation improvements for unlocalised strings, text cut-offs and overlaps. A range of UI bugs have been fixed including some errors and inconsistencies with item names. A bunch of fixes around crashes and general stability. (Not building stability) How to complete the Goblin Diplomacy quest in RuneScape DragonwildsApr 23, 2025 - PC GamerTo begin the Goblin Diplomacy quest in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, you need to pick up the Bandosian Amulet from a goblin camp in the middle of a lake southeast from Bramblemead Valley. Defeat the goblins in that camp and head down the stairs. Your path will be blocked by thorny vines on the right, so you'll need to chop them down to get ahold of the Reliquary... First things first, we want to say loud and clear: We hear you, and thank you. You've been giving us tons of feedback, sharing your hopes, your wishes for future content, your voracious appetite for MORE DRAGONWILDS! We've seen so much creativity, your builds, your achievements and even fan art. It means the world to this team to be able to see things like this coming together thanks to your passion and creativity. A range of UI bugs have been fixed including some errors and inconsistencies with item names. A bunch of fixes around crashes and general stability. (Not building stability) We're aware of your feedback around so many other things, too, but we wanted to get this patch out quicker, to address these fixes, to then turn our attention onto more issues for our next patch coming in within the next two weeks. We're investigating feedback around Bloom, Graphical options and more, and we'll share more when we have more information from the team. Work is still ongoing with our aims to expand out more content for 0.8, too, and we'll hopefully share more around this as a standalone post later down the line. Stay tuned for that. How to complete the Restless Ghosts quest in Runescape: DragonwildsApr 23, 2025 - PC GamerRestless Ghosts is one of many obscure side quests you'll pick up while exploring Ashenfall in Runescape: Dragonwilds, specifically, when you visit the Crumbling Well in Bramblemead. When you're nearby, you'll be able to interact with the well by pressing E, which lets you retrieve the mysterious Ghostspeak Amulet, and immediately begins the quest... I jerk my head upwards, perplexed, desperately looking for the source of the commotion. Then a screeching, draconic roar reverberates through the valley around me. The trees begin to shake, their branches whipping in an unnatural wind. A shadow falls over Bramblemead as the scaly form of a huge green dragon flies overhead. The noise is deafening, I'm genuinely terrified, but there's a wondrous sense of majesty. In Runescape Dragonwilds, you are an ant in a world of giants, and that can feel equal parts oppressive and exciting. Read the rest of the story... He'll temporarily be in two places at once. He's been doing this for ages, but nobody's been in two places at the same time to witness it. We've fixed an issue where gem drop frequency was hampered by you actually being too good at mining when reloading into a world. We've resolved a crash in the spells UI. As prices seem to increase exponentially - the base edition of GTA 6 is rumored to run you $100 - and microtransactions continue to cause backlash in live-service titles, striking the balance is becoming a fine art. Jagex's pricing structure has come under fire before, with a recent survey fanning the flames. So, when Runescape Dragonwilds launched in early access as a premium, one-time purchase priced at $29.99 / £25.99, it raised some eyebrows - prime competitor Valheim clocks in at $19.99 / £15.49, for comparison. We would greatly appreciate a Steam Review if you have time 🥺) since we launched RuneScape: Dragonwilds. It feels a little surreal to be able to say it at this stage. From all of us on the team – thank you all so much. We are truly floored by everyone’s response to this game. The team are working incredibly hard to get fixes out to resolve issues that you’re encountering – we’re doing our best, and we’re excited to keep rolling out hotfixes and then scaling into larger patches, too! OK, we can focus on the next headline: It’s Easter! That’s not going to mean much for Ashenfall and RuneScape: Dragonwilds but it does mean that JAGEX IS CLOSED! 🦀MODERATORS ARE ASLEEP! 🦀 We’ve been fully accelerating towards this release (but not crunching because… like… no.) but now we need the team to touch grass IRL rather than in game so we can get some rest and get back at it next week! When are we getting more news? So, we’re on the case. I’ll be preparing our next steps in terms of what we’re presenting to the team based on YOUR FEEDBACK. 🫵 We want to refine what we’re hearing from our social spaces and present them to you so we’re showing our working and methods behind the feedback we deliver to the team. We’re still working on bug fixes and stability for all the platforms, so expect hotfixes as we go. We have a known issues list that we’ve listed on our Website and our Discord. Our Bug reporting channels in Discord are being monitored as well, so make sure you use them! Once again, I want to really say thank you all so much to the entire community for your response to this. We’re confident that we can continue to improve this game and develop it into something truly special that deserves to be part of the RuneScape universe. If you make any bug reports, or suggestions, we will be collecting those up when we’re back on Tuesday. Until then, be good! Mod Doom (Community Manager)
