RAID World War II

Update 22 Progress ReportJan 22, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsThis newsletter is taking more dev time than the update, Newyears was almost a month ago Welcome to the new year, Raiders! We've been working hard ever since Update 21 to make the next update, we're still getting the hang of scoping updates out so this one ended up being waaaay too much work for us to push in a reasonable time- BUT we wanted to keep everyone updated on what we've got so far since we've been very silent for some time and we have a few new players who may be unaware that development is still actually going on RAID. So no more waiting, we have a wall of text for you to enjoy! Talent Skill System The new skills are really fun to play with we've found, but they're difficult to balance and a lot of work to implement and bug test, so the initial release of update 22 will not have a ton, but here's some of new skills and warcry options that might interest you all! Recon: "Silver Bullet" When activated enemies will be highlighted through walls All your weapons will have extreme wall penetration When the warcry is active firing will decrease the length of the timer, making precision shooting the focus of the warcry. Assault: "Sentry" When aiming you become almost completely static and gain perfect accuracy. Magazine size is increased when activated without needing to reload Standing still or mounting a turret will drain the warcry half as fast Your damage resistance is greatly increased during the warcry Insurgent: "Hold The Line" On activation a flag is planted where you stand which boosts the players inside its radius. Insurgent: "Pain Train" On activation you charge forwards knocking down and hurting all enemies in your way. Hitting an obstacle that stops your charge will deactivate the warcry leaving you with some remaining charge left. Higher level Pain Train includes an AOE stun on activation. Why is there nothing for Demolitions? We have plans for his future warcry abilities but they will need more work on the systems in place to make work how we want it to work and don't want to delay the update any further. Player Changes Player movement is overall less floaty. Mantling system now lets you climb over waist high walls that you normally would not be able to jump over while carrying heavy items. FPS animations now blend better and have some subtle camera effects along with interactions. (Camera bobbing effects can be decreased in the settings.) Detection should now be a lot more gradual when entering viewcones, Along with some enemy voice indicators for when you're being seen. Enemy and Weapon Overhaul All weapons and enemies have had their stats adjusted to give us a strong base on where we want to balance things, The amount of damage needed to kill enemies should be decreased. Weapon falloff is now less harsh overall, but falls roughly in the 10-30m range. Weapon spread has been changed to have a smaller impact when spraying. Flamer health was changed so headshots can kill easier but is still better to go for the gas tanks. Melee w...RAID: World War II - Update 21.6Dec 16, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello, Raiders! The M.U.G Team has got another small batches of critical fixes for you, that we just could not keep waiting until we can finally deliver the long awaited Update 22! Lots of users on NVIDIA Cards were reporting seemingly random crashing, causing a so called TDR, during gameplay. This should likely be adressed with this patch. TDR Crashes? Wasn't that a driver problem? Yes it was, and still is technically. This was one of those crashes that had us stumped for quite a while, especially because it only happened on users of NVIDIA cards, while the AMD drivers were always running along. Recently we have been experimenting with higher resolution assets for engine performance testing. During those tests we noticed that using decal meshes on them quickly triggered the infamous TDR crash when shooting at it. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/c047915d46c3152c5dfec1fe73e8936ffd106fc6.png Now having a reproducable crash our investigation lead to the shader code responsible for producing those decals. We quickly realized what was happening here: Due to layering issues that sometimes occured a loop got started and ran infinitly, thus triggereing Windows to think that the driver was stuck. The AMD drivers simply noticed this and exited the loop, while others kept iterating until the crash happened. Now a failsafe for this has been implemented in the shader, thus preventing the crash! Our testing showed that this works properly now, but if you happen to get the crash again please let us know! Thought I would share some insights on how we approach these things while we keep working on the next major and long awaited Update - Update 22! Additions and fixes adressed with this update: Fixed TDR crashes related to decal meshes. Reeanbled Ambient Occlusion. Fixed controller navigation for the video settings menus. Fixed doubled input on the stepper controls. Mod users; Please check for broken mods! If your game is not launching and you may have outdated or incompatible mods installed please be sure to completely uninstall mods if you have having immediate issues! In your RAID World War II directory remove IPHLPAPI.dll or WSOCK32.dll files by hand, as verifying game cache will not remove these files.RAID: World War II - Update 21.5 + NEWSSep 27, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello, Raiders! Everyone at the M.U.G. headquarters is still working hard to deliver update 22 for you. In the meantime, here is a small hotfix update to address an issue with game performance from processors with E-Cores. What are E-Cores? E-Cores (Efficiency Cores) is a technology used on 12th and 13th Generation of Intel CPUs that allow optimization of workloads to run on lower power cores that don't require high power of the main cores. Diesel, the game engine for RAID, was not aware of what is an E-Core and what is not, resulting in the engine running tasks that would require more performance on them, ultimately leading to bad FPS. This was mitigated with an engine patch included in this small hotfix. And now when the boring explanation is over, time for some... NEWS! The M.U.G. team consists of a few core members that keep this game progression with each update, which means progress is slow. We said this many times before but it still holds true for now, more than ever. Passion projects can only take up so much of ones time before real life events take precedent. Nevertheless, RAID's next update will be possibly the heaviest update to date. In the last major update's announcement post, we mentioned that there will be a new "Pick 10" system for how to build a character. This can open up to many new build ideas, and ultimately, travel down the road to new war-cry abilities! War-Cry Redux We have been going back and forth on what could we add that would be unique for the game, coming up with some truly bizarre ideas that could fit certain play-styles, but we wanted to do something more with this new concept. We want to include you for this new step in RAID. What does this mean? To our players who still endure with us, we value your time, patience, and feedback; but if you wanted to go the extra mile; we would love to value your creativity and ideas for the upcoming new War-Cry system. RAIDSTORMING SESSIONS This is NOT a competition or a demand from you. We will not restrict multiple ideas from the same person. Go wild - think of something you wish could happen with the mechanics of raid, and create an idea of how it could be implemented in your new War-Cry. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/a8e9d732eed583f3f7d969bf44a169fdef2c0d56.png PLEASE READ: If you decide to share your ideas with us, please be reminded that your entire idea might not make it in the update. It all depends on how it's structured and if it could fit into already existing ideas better; or maybe your idea might have one REALLY good part about it and the rest are duplication of existing newer War-Cries. There are many different elements at play here so keep those ideas coming! Either way, we will try our best to keep your ideas as pure as they are offered, but as with everything with game development, things are always subject to change. In order to participate in this raidstorming session, head over to the official discord server. #blammosweepRAID: World War II - Update 21.4Jul 15, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsCard drops have been tweaked recently to allow more than one card pack to drop per day. We are as ready as we can be to finally push this update to release! Change-log can be found on the announcement from the beta build. However, there is still a main issue we cannot resolve ourselves that will affect many people, which ultimately is entirely a waiting game: Nvidia drivers; TDR crashes. What is a TDR crash and why is it important to list? TDR stands for the Windows "Timeout detection and recovery" feature. Basically, whenever Windows thinks that the graphics card has hung up it will attempt to reset the entire driver causing the game to crash. With the DirectX 11 update of the engine some NVIDIA graphics card drivers seem to trigger this detection on RAID specifically, especially with more computationally intense tasks (like displaying lots of effects). As this is a feature of Windows and the graphics card driver this behavior is sadly out of our control. To fix this issue the graphics card driver would need to get an update preventing this crash, but that will likely still take some time to happen. The game engine will try to recover from this scenario, but a hard driver reset cannot always be securely resolved, thus resulting in the game closing. TDR crashes are found in the crash.txt log: "d3d11 (???) CreateDirect3D11SurfaceFromDXGISurface". Note: This seems to be an isolated issue with Nvidia drivers only - AMD has no issues so far. If you do manage to reproduce this crash on system with an AMD graphics card please reach out to us! (Edit) Please uninstall LUA mods! Lua mods are not supported for updates this large, if your game is not launching and you have mods installed please be sure to remove the IPHLPAPI.dll or WSOCK32.dll files by hand, as verifying game cache will not remove these files. Changelog from u21 Beta This build is a similar build as the u21 beta build, there has not been many additional changes. Vehicles now sync horn honking. Flamer gas tanks should now count as flamer kills. Distraction coins should now be far more reliable. Implemented some animation blending to first person. Added unlimited ammo pile to the camp. Minor changes to challenge card interface. Removed some incorrect voicelines on Countdown. Changed total required gold for the maximum gold pile. Added interactions for bag placing with flak/tank shells. Changes to enemy spawn rates on all difficulties. Vehicle nametags fade at a distance. And more minor changes and bugfixes! The "M.U.G" team We have brought on another community member to help with development of Raid, Xeletron. Ever since we brought him on things have been picking up in pace for the next update. We have a lot to show off for the in-development update 22! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/95266b3d41e66afa844e8cf867f6521bfa6ffc11.png This is a preface is to show a guideline of where some developmental ideas have taken the MUG crew; we cannot guarantee any of the following information will make it into update 22, some things might get cut, delayed or changed heavily. We are finally ready to announce the release of update 21 in open beta state and we need your help to make sure it's working stable before adding it to the main build. All instructions and information about how to participate in beta can be found in our discord server: here! But the code to get into this specific beta is: TotalControlBlammoSweepU21 Please report any bugs or issues to the #public-feedback channel from inside the official discord. We want to give a shout out to all the players who stuck with us as we continue to bring content into the game. It has been almost five years since the launch of RAID, and despite the lack of content from Update 19, we sincerely do thank the community for lifting the moral. This update was made possible by our small team: Ilija, Leon, Rex, Matt, and the Community Moderators. We also give thanks to our publisher, Starbreeze, for allowing continued support with RAID: World War II. These updates, ever since Update 20, have been a passion project to make the game into a better state. And from what Update 21 has to offer, we can confidently say this is a huge step in the right direction. But please remember that with a small team of people, updates will not be as rapid as lets say a live service game or one that has an incentive to update. That being said, we appreciate your continued patience for any update after this one and we hope Update 21 makes RAID closer to the game it should have been since before its launch. Recap A while ago, we made the announcement that the game was re-rated, and so RAID: World War II was finally uncensored in Germany, ending years of our dear counterfeit Adolf. But apart from that, we also teased that Update 21 was indeed happening, and after months of non-stop work here you have it. There is still so much more work to do but to avoid holding back these important changes any longer it was decided to save many of those for future updates. The excitement over Update 20 was great to see! Modders are already hard at work to take advantage of the new modding capabilities, and players have been giving us all kinds of feedback for more content. Thanks to the community, we now have a new batch of content, tweaks and fixes cooked up! Heads up! Due to the large amount of changes made many aspects of your progression will be not applied, You should not lose anything earned but weapon upgrades and skills will need to be reapplied. DirectX 11 One of the biggest changes, for sure, will be the upgrade from DirectX 9 to DirectX 11! You'll definitely see a gigantic boost in performance and decrease to memory usage! Note: There might be subtle shader differences and other minor issues due to the complexity of the changes made to the rendering. You must have a GPU that supports DirectX 11.1 to participate in the beta. Gold Diggers: Outlaw Raid Robbing art galleries and hijacking convoys surely must have been getting old for gold hunting raiders like yourself so we’ve found you an un...RAID: World War II - Newsletter 12/12/2022Dec 12, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello, fellow Raiders! Work is still going strong on the next update with a documented changelog over 100 lines long! Please note the team for update 21 is very small so it will take more time to finalise the update, Patience is key. The upcoming update will be a beta branch to get proper testing in and on the full release of update 21 the version before it will be preserved as its own beta branch if you ever want to go back. In the mean time we have prepared a list of major changes coming: New Outlaw Raid An off the books raid where you block a train passing through an exposed section of underground rail, the train of course is carrying all kinds of valuables. Progress on the level is very close to completion, more gameplay testing is needed and feedback from the beta will go towards updates to the new outlaw raid. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/ecd7bcbee4558834a8c6b3fcbdfc3aeff4930516.jpg New Throwable Type New shipment arrived and it includes a new throwable weapon, It will be very handy for keeping the enemy off those valves. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/149e3fbbde20a783d23840e768f641d46949f73f.jpg Engine Changes A great deal of effort has gone into pushing Diesel engine out of the early 2000s (by a year or two) with changes to rendering, this should include a big performance increase for most GPUs. With these engine changes includes new bundle compression. Improvements to load times. Less restrictive mod_overrides will be included, some file types were not included such as unit files for example. Unfortunately most lua based mods will not work and may need updating. Major Bugfixes The issues with detection and impossible alerts in stealth have been fixed. Flamers armor now spawns correctly so theyre now a real challenge again. Crashlog script stacks are now set up to make reporting crashes easier. And many more... Tweaks Enemy balance is the biggest struggle to manage in Raid due to varying player counts, class preferences and the many issues that need to be resolved with the Ai of the game, there are changes but do not expect them to be permanant as we plan on going through and cleaning up as best as we can in future updates. Some weapons have been balanced to be more enjoyable to use, Specifically weapons like the Sterling SMG. Pickups were changed so now grenades are no longer wasted and will instead decrement. Automatic pickup on smaller ammo/health drops will be enabled, This mechanic has been a fair point of critisism but we dont want to give up on it entirely. Large medical cases return a single down for the user. Recons warcry is less strict with your controls, health regen applies to all weapons with scaling and now includes a ricochet effect exclusive to sniper rifles to handle crowds of enemies better. Outlaw Raids are no longer limited to one, you can collect every outlaw raid and pick which you want to play when you want to play them. Cosmetic items are no longer purely loot drops, they can be bought for gold. Raids with excess obje...RAID is now uncensored!Aug 16, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings, Raiders! Today's announcement is dedicated to our German players. While we were working on Update 20, we got in contact with the USK for RAID to be re-rated so Germans could also have the uncensored version of the game everyone else has. This process is now over, so we can bring you the good news: RAID: World War II is now uncensored for German raiders! If you're in Germany and you see this announcement, you should already have an update available. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/19013f12f33937628929c9f10a06a8f1cb878e70.png Rest In Peace, Fake Hitler. You served us well. If by chance you want to see him, he lives on YouTube. That's not all, though. Update 21 is being worked on, but it's not ready yet. We can give you a teaser for things to come in the future though... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/30493300/e32d1f1be393d423d73627b32bec11ca32156153.jpg Stay tuned for future updates, and remember that we have a Discord where you can find people from the community to play with! If you would like to purchase a copy of RAID for a friend, or if it is a good time for you to pick it up, the game and special edition are both on a 75% discount sale until August 18th, 2022. Yes, we noticed that a lot of new people who buy the game get a very specific crash, and felt the need to fix it so that the game runs, this only affected people with newer CPUs. This should hopefully be working good now (Our testing shows its fine) And since we got a greenlight from our publisher, we also wanted to add the long awaited modding feature, so that modders can add their own files to the game. And while we did all that, there were some things (mostly the XP ) that we wanted to change while we were at it. Why now? Why not earlier?! This is a question that would take way to long to answer. But in short, we have been working on other things in order for our company to survive, and had to put raid on the side, because 1: It takes a lot of developers to do even small things in the diesel engine, and 2: we need to live, and this game is not making us any money, so we needed to put our resources elsewhere. We are also working on something new that hopefully we will be able to show some time soon(TM). Another BIG reason for this is our community, and without our team of COMMUNITY MODS, Draza, Matt, Dysphorid and Sylvanas Windrunner, this would not have been possible, thanks for all the help guys! Also, A very big thank you goes out to LeonTheo02, he is the reason this patch even got made, without his help this would not have been possible, so thank you Leon, for the long nights, the screen shares, and all the digging through the old project, server and code to make this possible. Another thanks goes out to the streamer b33croft, who acted as a tester for the new cpu crash fix, and streamed the game last weekend! Will there be more?! As of now, we do not know, we are definitely open for more. But we will be watching and following people playing, and if we see/find things that break the game, we will do our best to fix it and add more fixes as we go, currently, it just is not something that we can promise. We really do hope that you enjoy the changes, and hope to see some fun new mods, and if we are really luc...The fall of StarbreezeJan 28, 2019 - EurogamerAt Starbreeze's 2016 Christmas meeting, held in a cinema close by to the studio's Stockholm headquarters, CEO Bo Andersson told staff the company was in rude health. Payday 2, a co-op first-person shooter Steam hit, was still making money, virtual reality investments were about getting ahead of the game, and in-development titles, such as Raid: World War 2 and Overkill's The Walking Dead, were on course for success. Starbreeze's top brass even announced a new staff bonus system. The message was loud and clear: Starbreeze had evolved from the plucky developer of Payday into a big, important, successful entertainment company. Just two years later, Starbreeze is on the brink of extinction. Following the disastrous release of Overkill's The Walking Dead in November, Starbreeze's board of directors unceremoniously booted Andersson out of the company. In a remarkable email obtained by Eurogamer and sent to everyone at the company the day after he was fired, Andersson even seems to lament the laziness of some of his staff - the same staff who claim they had just endured months of crunch for a project that was doomed from the start. A day later, Swedish authorities raided Starbreeze's office, arresting two people as part of an investigation into alleged insider trading. Riddled with millions of pounds of debt, Starbreeze has effectively gone into administration and is looking to sell off as many of its ill-advised virtual reality ventures as possible while it still can. The future of Payday, that old reliable cash cow, is in doubt. And for the staff who remain - those who put their blood, sweat and tears into Starbreeze games even as they endured late nights and alleged mismanagement - the threat of layoffs looms. How did things go so badly wrong in such a short space of time? According to over a dozen current and former Starbreeze staff members, who asked to remain anonymous in order to protect their careers, the writing had been on the wall for some time. But even as staff lost faith in the studio and its bosses, nobody, it seemed, thought Starbreeze's fall from grace would turn out to be quite so dramatic. Read more… Raiders! These are some images of such things that were taken out from the official release of the update. The Vault Doors Carried More Labor In the beginning of development for Kelly, there were single gold bars that players had to bring to the escape trucks. It was also very tedious in which the escape/loot trucks were further out than what the release version has it. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/31013dcb8320da76dbc67e75c6b8de574317818e.jpg This seriously could have been a merge of gold rush and forest convoy... mein gott. Cleaning Haus With A Whole Party Here When we first got our hands on the Welrod for the first time... it was interesting to say the least. One of us tested out the new guard spawn system for Kelly. What we found out is that the guard in the bank, if dead, will always respawn another guard from the door to the right inside the bank. This is the aftermath after a minute from the Welrod. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/e5ac58af881c06f1d9b129f130c3830637d196a8.jpg How many guards does it take to make a bad pun about this body count? Nein. Driving Inside A Bank Is Borderline Insanity In the early days of Kelly, there use to be transportation to help carry the extra gold out. That proved to be pointless in the long game since a loot truck could arrive closer to the bank than further away that halts the pacing of the level. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/c80c373d8a3e76b39c8ebbc53e8b792e2be32a7e.jpg It was good cover, but it would be impossible to get it out the bank in time. Welcome to announcement day 3! You have seen the Decoy Coin to lure guards away and improve your stealth gameplay, the new Kelly level which is playable in both loud and stealth, and now... it is time for the addition many of you have requested! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/affa11b9f49ab20b9c59b66a8b63d41d8f7a9d05.png Introducing: Welrod! Introducing the Welrod! This British bolt action, magazine fed suppression pistol was developed during World War II, and the epitome of suppression guns. It was used by the regular forces and the resistance against the Nazi regime, and now the RAID Gang have them! Since we are looking at Stealth as a key gameplay element we want to improve in RAID, there is no better weapon to introduce then the Welrod. Since we also made adjustments to the guards so that they don’t instantly go into an alert, using the Welrod will allow you to sneak up and take out patrols without being seen if timed correctly. Then all you have to do is clean up the bodies and dump them in places the enemy can’t see! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/9da0fba22be990d34bbaa58633f8e13b2d66525d.jpg Changes in stealth: Some levels will now have respawning guards, and their ability to see and find dead bodies is better. So hiding dead Nazi corpses is more important than ever. Remember, Killing Nazis is fun! But you need to clean up after yourself. The respawn guards system is something that we want to go over all levels and add. But this will happen through patches down the line after we get some more feedback from you guys. https://i.imgur.com/DPkjMJ2.gif Yea yea yea... just give us the update and the patch notes... Woah easy there, patch notes will be posted when the update goes live. We tried to get it out today, however you will have to wait until tomorrow ( Friday ) for the update since we and the testers need some more time for the final checks. Until then, stay safe, kill Nazis, and Blammo! See you all tomorrow! Once again we would like to thank community (and master modder/memer) member "Matthelzor" for the artwork!RAID: World War II - Update 19 : DAY 2 RevealMay 16, 2018 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/b0bc03a75bd5f037580cf31e6e69b68441ffb700.png Raiders! Day 2 has come, hopefully you are looking forward to the new Decoy coin! Now if only there were more stealth levels in RAID to use the coin in you say? https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30493300/c168159160e3339e38544ac1e8317166b144d04b.jpg Introducing the new Raid "Kelly"! "Kelly" is the newest raid added for the greediest of players. Kelly can be completed fully in stealth, and there are a couple of new things that we haven't done before here. For example, the weather and time of day are randomized. The level can be played during the day, night, and in heavy fog/rain. This is a new thing that we want to try. We hope to hear your thoughts on wanting to see this more in the future. https://i.imgur.com/oMoIu5E.gif Story Mrs. White and the RAID gang got wind of the Nazis taking a large amount of stolen gold from France into Germany. They are tasked with intercepting and stealing the gold from a temporary Nazi bank. Make sure you steal the gold before it's transported out of Berlin! But, I like to blow shit up.. Do not worry! If the alarm goes off, ( or you simply wish to go loud from the start ) The vault will lock, and the gang will as always use some drastic measure to get into it. A tank is called in and, after you clean the path to the bank for it, the gang uses it together with some cable to simply pull the doors off the hinges. https://i.imgur.com/BzE6bqg.gif Day 3 Check in with us again tomorrow for the day 3 announcement, we got one more thing to show you, and we think you are going to like it! Also, full patch notes and change log tomorrow!
