Arty comes to Commander!Apr 15, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsPatch coming out tonight 10pm UK time Here are our fixes & changes * Fixed spyglass on horseback * Artillery limits are enforced at the troop selection menu, so you know if the limit has been reached * Overhauled menu and in-game UI * Added artillery to commander mode, with AI that can reload the cannon for you, and the ability to toggle between round and grape shot * You can now designate target companies for line infantry to focus fire on, or prioritise in melee * Reduced the range at which your soldiers will automatically engage in melee with nearby enemies, and reduced the distance they will pursue before returning to their line * Overhauled the sounds for all small arms and artillery. All weapons can be heard across the battlefield, and will play distant sounds if you are far away * Tweaked the blood effects a bit to make them more noticeable * Created a new key-based menu system for issuing commands (previous mouse-based menu is also still available in the control options) * Corpse persistence is now configurable in the graphics options, default is 2 minutes, but can be set to 0 for permanent * Soldiers no longer get in each others way or get stuck when forming up * More death animations * Voice commanders for British & American Commanders * Units now visible in Unit select menu * Smaller Mouse cursor We really changed a lot in this, one of our best patches. Lead your very own regiment into battle! In the works since late 2020 RSE has been working hard to bring you the ultimate linebattle gamemode. Working best with teams of 5 players controlling 20 AI each (200 Troops in play), this game mode is only limited by your own CPU, most people will enjoy a smooth experience thanks to the power of Unreal 4! Future UpdateDec 16, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsHi everyone, We wanted to give you an update on the state of the game and where we are in development. We appreciate things have been quiet for the past 6 weeks or so since our last update which introduced offline bot matches and siege support for AI. As a team, we have been working on Prime and Load without a break for over 3 years now while also balancing it with university, jobs, family and so on. We have been using the last few weeks to step back, take a bit of a break and re-evaluate the game and the direction it needs to go. Fundamentally, we know that the game has not been a success and a lot of this has been down to us: awful technical problems at launch, naivety in handling communications, mistakes made in our project management, and just a general lack of experience and resources. The question now is: where do we go from here? This has been a difficult decision to make, but we are planning to release a final content update for the game early next year, exact date TBC, which will include the following: * Commander mode, giving players command of a company of AI soldiers which they can lead against other AI or player-controlled companies * Allow for players to host their own listen servers within the game to remove dependency on dedicated servers for online play * Additional small requests from the community, full list to be decided * Additional bug fixes This will allow people to enjoy the game competitively, but with a game mode better suited to the low population. After this content update, we will not be doing any further development on the game, other than bug and crash fixes. For all those who have contributed to the discussion, posted ideas and generally supported us: we are really grateful for all that you've done, and we are sorry that we couldn't make the game what we hoped it would be. This time we've focused on bringing the game towards a much healthier state for hosting events and playing with your regiment. Many complaints were made towards our graphics / server stability & general clunkyness - we think in this patch we've done a great deal to ease these complaints. Below you will find our *rough* changelog, we've been pushing ourselves hard this month to bring you as much as possible, we may have missed out a few changes. Crash Fixes: * Hopefully some crash fixes when using admin tools and a player leaves just as you're performing an action on them * Fixed a crash when changing movement speed as spectator Artillery: * Fixed jittery dismounting from cannons * Cannons can now be loaded from the side if the front is inaccessible * All troop types can ride as a passenger on the artillery train * Fixed an issue causing the player's view to sometimes become permanently limited if being killed while operating a cannon Cavalry: * Reduced range of the lance slightly * Increased the rate at which a horse slows down when no movement input is provided * Increased the speed penalty when knocking down a player * Players who are knocked down will now have a much smaller hitbox while on the floor, making it very difficult to hit someone on the floor from a horse * Riding while aiming incurs a large accuracy penalty, making shooting while moving much less viable * Fixed momentum calculations in melee not being applied correctly on horseback Melee: * Fixed melee animations to be less bouncy, hopefully the whole thing will be much smoother * Enemy players can no longer get as close to each other, hopefully making melee less frantic as players keep clipping inside each other * Rebalanced momentum and damage for bayonets, melee in general should last longer with less damage being done * Taking damage in melee will momentarily prevent you from priming an attack, hopefully making melee less spammy * You can now fix bayonets (and remove them) with a key binding for weapons that support it * You will now adopt the "advance bayonets" pose after a couple of seconds if marching forwards with a bayonet in melee mode Ranged Combat: * Rebalanced all ranged weapons for damage and viability over distance * Muskets are now less viable at ranges of 100m (110 yards) or longer, with the ideal range being more like 75m (82 yards) * Pistols are now less viable at ranges past 50m (55 yards) * Pistols now only take 10 seconds to reload, vs 15 for a musket and 20 for a rifle * Rifles are viable up to around 125m (135 yards) * Overall, we expect this will reduce the number of long-distance engagements and allow troops to move more freely without worrying about taking heavy damage General Gameplay: * New loadout system. When selecting a troop you can choose a loadout for troops that can have more than one. Practice Mode - You can now play the game in offline mode from the main menu. Select the practice mode to load up an offline version of our Training_Map. This blog is very exciting to both write and present to you as it is the last development blog before the game's initial steam release. Indeed, it is not a typo, Prime & Load: 1776 will be releasing on steam on the 25th of April! Here is our official release trailer! We have all been working hard to polish the game and solve any outstanding issues so that players can enjoy it as soon as possible and after lots of dedication, we have finally reached the point where we can give you a specific release date. What to expect from the release version? Prime & Load will come to you feature complete. Meaning, a wide variety of regiments with line, cavalry, artillery and sapper units are already in the game with 4 different factions to choose from. The game also features a variety of gamemodes including Team Deathmatch, Battle, Siege and Duel. Appart from these major features, you will get to experience different linebattle aspects as never before and of course you can always shoot people's hats off! What to expect from RSE after the release version? We will be working hard with hotfixes and new features to bring to you. People that participated in our semi-public test have already experienced the frequency of our patches. Alongside the release announcement, here is some new content!
