Aside from WandaVision, it's one of the few things Marvel Studios has produced that actually reflects how broad superhero comics can be. They are so much more than banter and big monster fights, but that's largely all we get from the MCU. While She Hulk does dabble in these things, it's more Ally McBeal than Avengers, and the result is immensely entertaining. Developers thinking of pitching a superhero game should take note... The latest one I've been toying around with is an Ace Attorney bot that turns certain Reddit threads into a courtroom drama scene. Getting it all to work requires a few things. First up you should sign up to Steamtable and Reddit, and bot creator Micah Price explains that you'll need to "set the appropriate env vars to use the bot". You'll also need to download the game sprites from court-records, and the music from khinsider. Once that's all out the way, you can head to any of the subreddits the bot supports and type in '!objectionbot' or '!objection-bot' to get things rolling. While not every subreddit is supported, there are plenty to try. You can head to the Politics or Soccer pages if you like, but I went straight to CyberpunkGame - what can I say? It's topical. Subreddits for Destiny 2, Star Citizen, and Fortnite are also supported - have fun. Read the rest of the story... And now that that's out of the way, it looks like Capcom and Microsoft are teasing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy coming to Game Pass. A Twitter exchange between the official accounts suggests an announcement may be imminent. The exchange began with the official account for Dragon Quest announcing that Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age was now on Game Pass for PC and Xbox. The official Ace Attorney account replied with a thinking emoji, and then the Xbox Game Pass account replied pointing fingers at both and asking "What's happening!?" On the hellscape that is Twitter, corporate accounts can be prone to offhand exchanges like this, but the companies involved make this seem like an obvious hint. The Ace Attorney account doesn't tweet other than to advertise - this is the second post since July - and the Game Pass account is prone to slightly goofy hints. For Rainbow Six Siege, we got a picture of six rainbows over a castle being attacked right before the multiplayer game dropped on the Xbox part of the service. These detective games could very easily follow suit. Read the rest of the story... Why I love Miles Edgeworth in Ace AttorneyOct 4, 2019 - PC GamerNot a whole lot of game franchises offer character development that bridges several instalments. It’s easy to see why—you don’t want to make it too hard for people joining a franchise late to get up to speed with what happened to its heroes. Sometimes however, you get a chance to start at the beginning, especially now, thanks to all these re-releases.  That’s how I met Miles Edgeworth. Miles is Ace Attorney’s not-so-secret star, because his relationship with protagonist Phoenix Wright supplies much of the game’s narrative backbone. Due to it giving you different cases to solve, I expected Ace Attorney to be a collection of comedic, but ultimately unrelated one-shots. But Miles quickly establishes himself as your ongoing antagonist, and he makes a great anime foil—a fop with the most dramatic fashion sense, a permanent scowl and no time for nonsense.  His alarming reputation succeeds him. Miles, they whisper in the hallways, doesn’t care about justice, he only cares about upholding his conviction record. What a revelation then, an unexpected delight, that this grumpy fellow cares about justice very much indeed. Behind his stoic shell hides one of the most dramatic backstories I’ve had the pleasure of discovering in a long time. Rise and fall Miles Edgeworth’s story is so good to me because it takes the bully who otherwise might have become a villain and offers him redemption. Miles and Phoenix go way back. They became childhood friends after Miles stood up for Phoenix in a dramatic classroom trial, inspiring the latter to take up a career as a defence attorney. But their paths diverged, chiefly due to the trauma Edgeworth experienced when his father died—trauma that would fuel his relentless chase of criminals later on. Without giving too much away, the backstory is still almost hilariously overwrought, but all in all we can understand Miles’ motive. He became vulnerable and was basically led astray into the role of Phoenix’s adversary. Only when he becomes a suspect himself and has to deal with the feelings of helplessness he inflicted onto others does Edgeworth understand what he’s done.  Edgeworth admits this to himself, which leads him to help Phoenix out more than once and even grudgingly accept help. It’s so enjoyable to watch, particularly because he doesn’t ever unthaw. Miles doesn’t become nice or, God forbid, soft. At first, this makes Edgeworth more akin to a running gag, the fop who gets flustered by the shenanigans around him. But every once in a while his shell cracks and something endearing slips out—like how he’s a massive fan of Ace Attorney’s in-game TV show Steel Samurai.  While part of Edgeworth’s slow transformation comes from the fact that he can’t seem to beat Wright in court, he is only able to truly move on when he finds closure regarding his father&#x...After half my life, Ace Attorney's re-release brought me full circleJun 23, 2019 - EurogamerMany, many people have stories about how video games have impacted them. It's rarer for a series to be a continuous, changing influence on half of your life. And yet somehow Ace Attorney, a comedy game about lawyers, became bizarrely foundational to my teenage years - and then jarringly alien in my 20s. So when the original trilogy was remastered earlier this year, it felt like so much more than the chance to revisit a classic. It seemed an invitation to reflect on an influence lasting more than a decade, kicked off by a video game, that ended up nowhere near where I expected it to. The first time I ever saw Ace Attorney being played, I was 12. The first game was already five years old, having made the transition from the Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo DS by the time I glimpsed it over a friend's shoulder. She was playing one of the tense courtroom battles and, for reasons long lost to time, I was immediately hooked by the concept. The investigative sequences were less interesting to me, but this was a blessing in disguise. My friend soon got fed up of calling me over when she was back to arguing her case in front of a judge, and I wasn't understanding the story properly from those fragments anyway, so I picked up my own copy and tore through it, falling in love with the characters and story. Read more Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy reviewApr 13, 2019 - PC GamerBefore I became familiar with Japanese media, I associated courtroom dramas with the no-nonsense rulings of Judge Judy or the uber-serious suspense of A Few Good Men. Meanwhile, in Japan's fictional courtrooms, the silly and the dramatic is found in equal measure, making it a hugely popular genre. This is especially true of Ace Attorney, which imbues its trials with all the visual and stylistic trappings of an engaging anime serial. Ace Attorney is the latest in a line of HD remasters of Capcom's previously console-only games. Prior to Ace Attorney, hardly any visual novels were officially localised, and even now it’s still a niche that more commonly brings to mind dating games over adventure. Ace Attorney's courtroom setting and goofy humour still set it apart; both from visual novels and games at large. Trials range from ridiculous to genuinely suspenseful. Rather than just a collection of selectable player reactions, Phoenix Wright is one of the few main characters in this type of game who gets to freely express himself. While he often seems overwhelmed by the shenanigans around him, he genuinely cares—making me care in turn. You learn everything you need to know to become a winner in the courtroom during your very first case. Fresh from law school, defence attorney Phoenix has promised to get his best friend Larry Butz acquitted of murder.  Your clients are generally hapless people like him, and in order to keep them out of jail, you have to identify the true culprit and then—to  quote Wright—"put the pressure on until they squeal". First you listen to a witness's testimony, then pick it apart statement by statement during the cross-examination. You can ask a witness to clarify ("Hold it!") or expose inaccuracies and straight-up lies by presenting a piece of contradicting evidence ("Objection!"). All evidence is handily collected in the court record, which you can access at any time. Presenting evidence can be frustrating however, because not only do you have to present the right piece, it also has to be presented at the right moment. If a witness is elaborating on a prior statement in their next sentence, either seem like viable moments to object, but the game will only acknowledge the right sentence to do so. Get it wrong, and you'll be penalised and lose part of a health bar. The more is on the line, the more health you stand to lose, but you can save at any time from the options menu. Diagnosis: Murder  Starting with the second of 14 episodes, you also put your Sherlock Holmes hat on and do some sleuthing ahead of a court date. Looking for clues out in the world is an unwieldy affair, as you have to move from screen to screen in a certain order and randomly click just about anything that could be of interest. Sometimes you move about aimlessly without knowing what to do next until a person appears out of nowhere or you've finished all av...Now Available on Steam - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy / 123Apr 9, 2019 - Product ReleasePhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy / 123 is Now Available on Steam! Become Phoenix Wright and experience the thrill of battle as you fight to save your innocent clients in a court of law. Play all 14 episodes, spanning the first three games, in one gorgeous collection. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is coming to PCFeb 28, 2019 - PC GamerOn April 9 we'll finally have the chance to enjoy Phoenix Wright on PC. The Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy package contains the 14 episodes that make up the first three games. It's available to pre-purchase on Steam now for $29.99/£29.99 Phoenix Wright started out on handhelds like the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS. It's a comedy adventure game series in which you snoop around crime scenes and talk to suspects to gather clues. At the climax of the case you deploy these clues as smackdowns in absurd but surprisingly tense courtroom scenes. They are great games to travel with, and the DS version encouraged people to yell "OBJECTION" into their device to trigger Wright's famous point. I'm not sure how well they will translate to a full-monitor desk setup, but it's nice to have the option. The trilogy is also coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
