New World Horizon

Players slam New World's recent changes via Steam reviewsNov 21, 2021 - EurogamerAmazon's MMO, New World, has seen its aggregate user reviews on Steam fall from "mostly positive" to "mixed" in the last 30 days. As spotted by TheGamer, feedback seems mostly to criticise the game's "grind" and its litany of bugs and issues. "It saddens me to have to write a negative review," wrote one player. "The game has a great foundation but is pretty much completely screwed over by bad decisions from higher-ups." In a lengthy update on the official forum, community manager Luxendra explained that while there were plans to introduce mergers, "there are a few action items that need to be addressed" before the team can be "confident that merging worlds will be a net positive experience for our players". "We need to test our technology. We had tested world merges in Closed Beta which caused a persistence issue that has since been resolved, and we continue to test merges with our team and non-public worlds," the post explained, adding that any changes will first be tested in The Public Test Realm from tomorrow (Monday) morning. Despite hitting an impressive all-time concurrent peak of just shy of a million players on 3rd October, Forbes spotted that the numbers on SteamCharts have taken something of a dip, with its concurrent rate falling around 135,000 players every week since launch. As of last week, the MMO sported a concurrent player count of 508,000 - roughly half of what it was at the start of the month. Earlier this month, Amazon U-turned on letting New World players transfer their characters to a server in a different region. Following New World's explosive launch, Amazon asked players to join servers with low wait times as it worked on increasing the population caps of existing servers. When New World launched last month it exploded in popularity, becoming the fifth most-popular game on Steam of all-time by concurrent players. But Amazon struggled to cope with the enormous launch numbers, and server queue wait times ballooned. Now, when a server is full it will be greyed out, with a note to say character creation is not possible. Of course, if you've already created a character on a full server, you can log in (or, queue to log in, anyway) and play with them as normal. Amazon signalled the new system last night as it launched a server status page on its website. At the time of this article's publication, many of the servers are marked as full. New World had a huge launch this week, reaching a peak of 758,543 concurrent players on Steam. It's the fifth most-popular game ever on Steam, according to peak concurrents. Amazon said over a million players entered New World on launch day - and that number has increased each day since. It said that while it expected a big launch, it was "frankly surprised" by the huge influx of players, which led to extremely long queue times. New World launched yesterday and peaked at 707,230 concurrent players - the fifth-highest concurrents figure ever seen on Valve's platform. At one point it was the most popular game on Steam, ahead of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. But this popularity has made for extremely long queue times - for some over nine hours - that has made New World practically unplayable for many customers. In fact, most of the game's negative user reviews on Steam are complaints about these server problems. A subsequent statement from Amazon insisted the beta was "safe to play", and that's now been corroborated by EVGA, after its investigation into the issue revealed hardware failures were the result of dodgy soldering. When reports of card failures began to surface, some users speculated the problem was due to power spikes and overheating caused by uncapped framerates in the New World beta's menus. While Amazon set about capping the framerate as a precautionary measure, EVGA began replacing affected cards and investigating returns to find out exactly what was going on. Sharing its findings with PC World, EVGA has now revealed that while it wasn't able to replicate the issue using a copy of the New World beta, under X-ray analysis the less-than-two-dozen impacted RTX 3090s it received - all originating from an early 2020 production run - displayed "poor workmanship" on the soldering around the MOSFET circuits that powered the cards. The MMO hit a peak concurrents figure of 200,856 on Steam yesterday, making it the sixth most popular game on Valve's platform, ahead of the likes of Rust, Warframe, Rainbow Six Siege and Football Manager 2021. New World is currently in closed beta, with a release date proper set for 31st August. In the statement, Amazon said it had received a "few" reports of players using high-performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure when playing New World. "New World makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We have seen no indication of widespread issues with 3090s, either in the beta or during our many months of alpha testing," the statement continues. As most of my gaming has been deep in the thick of the jungles where there is little dialog, this oversight has been around quite awhile, So my apologies.May 18th UpdateMay 18, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsWe restored back to the original save system which hopefully should work in all locations now and increased the spawns in the outer zones and islands. In a recent playthrough, it just seamed like the faster movement system made combat just way to easy in the later stages of the game and perhaps a bit boring so we stepped things up a bit with a reduced damage on higher tier weapons and the stunning blows. Hope You Guys Enjoy!! stay safe and good huntingpatch roll backMay 16, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsI discovered an issue within the save game update so I have had to roll back the game version until I can work a fix.Bug fixes 4/6/21Apr 6, 2021 - Community Announcementsjust testing a few fixesFeb 20 Update - The Dreaded Save GameFeb 20, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsI wanted to address a complaint New Players were having with saving their game progress, which in the past was done by "Getting a room" at the Tavern or Building a Completed House and sleeping there. In either case the Save was intentional and In a large world with remote islands where construction are possible anywhere it can be easy to get stuck in a really bad situation, or perhaps by accident ruin your characters reputation and suddenly not want a save game. But recent reviews from new players have me a bit on the fence, so for this I thought I would try a new save game approach which will move the starting point from the Docks"starting area" to Town or to any house currently under construction or built. Hopefully this will give newer players an easier launch getting into the wild, but also does open the risk of perhaps getting stuck in the wilds. So for this I say, be careful and use those save game slot :P As always, your feedback is welcome!Feb 2021 Patch NotesFeb 13, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsWe had several patches this week, so I wanted to give a quick summary here. First, I have removed the speech from the npcs as my voice acting quality was very poor and it wasnt really worth slowing up the dialog system which is now very quick to skip right over those long winded storylines. We have managed to get all the old Combat Skills into the new directional swing system while maintaining the freedom of movement on all skills with the exception of the spin attacks that still leave the player in place while attacking. We will continue testing as it has somewhat lowered the difficulty of combat slightly, but the change does seem to be much more fast placed, removing the clunky stop and go actions from the old combat system. We have changed the vaulting and climbing skill so now it should only attempt a climb while Holding "Run" and Pressing Forward. As the run key was pulling double duty with the camera zoom, it made camera navigation difficult up close around the npcs. We have also added a tool tip popup to many of the non tool based skills that I think alot of players might have been missing - Opening Hatches, Harvesting Plants, Disabling Traps, Reloading and Firing Cannons. Im sure Ive missed many more, but with it in place it should be easy to add in the rest as we rediscover them. And Finally. A Level of Detail System! How we made it this far without one is beyond me, anyways, you should now see a more properly reduced resolution as objects move away from the player. The reduction does appear to really give a nice boost to performance. As always, If ya find anything wrong or any ideas on how to make things better, hit me up, I love hearing from ya all. Hope you all enjoy the update, stay safe and good hunting!!Part 2 - Combat PatchFeb 12, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsSome minor tweaks to Spin Combat Moves and Skill Que.
