Nebula Within

Breaking Free, Being FreeMar 16, 2022 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/20dea65e6c6c44315782c0d13cdb1845806af9e2.jpg You heard that right, starting April 1st, Nebula Within will be completely, entirely, free! To start, I want to express my utmost gratitude and thanks to everyone who purchased the game since launch. I have always been a frugal gamer, so choosing to purchase a game, no matter the cost, has always been a huge deal to me. To know that 215 people chose to purchase my game is an absolute honor. Each of you has helped validate my experiences and recoup some time I spent developing Nebula Within, and for that, I feel truly grateful. Your actions and feedback have meant the world to me. That said, I'm no longer at a point in my life where I feel the need to charge for this work of art (and I do believe games are art). I would rather open the opportunity to play Nebula Within to anyone who is curious or interested. I spent much of my own life not playing games I was interested in because I didn't have the money to spare on them. If any project is to address that experience, Nebula Within has got to be it. Moving forward, I hope more folks will be able to access this experience. If you're reading this after April 1st 2022, the game is yours! If you're reading this and have purchased Nebula Within, the game, my heart, and my gratitude is yours. As will forever be the case, reach out if you have any thoughts, concerns, requests, or comments. I'm a real human being. And just because Nebula Within is going free does not mean I will no longer be here with open ears, an open mind, and a desire to help. Honored to be your dev, -NickThank You for exploring 100 Nebulas!Feb 3, 2021 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/87dad7f189cb81c151c6764ced6798b1f4950704.jpg Thanks to you, Nebula Within recently sold its 100th copy. As a fairly unusual indie game created by an unknown developer, I was doubtful it would ever get this far. While there are games on Steam that have sold 10 times as many copies in the same amount of time that it takes to get hit by a tiny purple triangle, they can't match the feeling of gratitude I feel right now. For starters, this game was never meant to be a "commercial product." It has always been an independent passion project, a gaming haiku, so to speak. Made specifically for a real human like you. Because of that, I feel so humbled that 100 other people have explored their own nebulae too. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who played the game, accepted a free copy from me, purchased a retail copy, left a review, streamed it on Twitch, told a friend, added it to your wishlist, or participated in any other form of support that I've neglected to mention. From the bottom (all the way to the top) of my heart, THANK YOU Nebulatic Update #3: CVD Friendly Sprites & Contrast/Flashing OptionsJan 10, 2021 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/28d79854c0caa6f35fc1f97bd55b2d077ce100c5.jpg This is a very minor update but will impact you most if: You and/or your friends have some form of color vision deficiency. The sprites which differentiate you from your friends when playing local co-op (or via Steam's Remote Play) are no longer just differentiated by color. Each player has a unique sprite, which should make identification easier for folks with some kind of CVD. Hope this helps those of you who like to play with friends! You are sensitive to contrast and/or flashes. There are now options in the Calibrate menu to freely adjust the in-game contrast and presence of "hit flashes" (color changes that occur when an object is hit) to your liking. This should make the game easier to play for those of you who either want or need the game's contrast to be reduced/increased and flashing to be enabled/disabled. Always trying my best to make the experience comfortable for everyone, so if you want to see any accessibility changes, don't hesitate to ask! Everyone deserves to enjoy the same things. Tune In to the Original Soundtrack for Nebula Within!Dec 30, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/bb599d49f5d765f6b9107f2fa8a5c97ff524075f.jpg By popular demand, the thoughtful soundscapes that Alaric Qin created for Nebula Within will be available in the Original Soundtrack starting January 29th! On that day, all the tracks present in the game will be available for your listening pleasure on Steam, Spotify, and other major music platforms. It is our hope that these soundscapes can continue to transport you both inside and outside the Nebula Within. Enormous thanks to Alaric Qin for sculpting these melodies and to you for supporting Nebula Within. May you follow the beat of your proverbial drums, even when the sound grows distant, -NickGoodbye 2020: A New Year's DiscountDec 21, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/fda33c956239988b745dc27c146a164cae1760d3.jpg To commemorate the end of the life-marathon that was the year 2020, Nebula Within will be on sale for 75% off during the Steam Winter Sale (December 22 - January 5th). This time of year can get hard for a number of reasons, so I've marked down the price to make it as affordable as possible. I know what it feels like to not afford the games you want to play, so this is dedicated specifically to anyone who's ever been in that boat before. If you've been waiting for a better opportunity to pick the game up, now's a great time to do so. Nebulatic Update #2: Color Vision Deficiency SupportDec 10, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/aa90a59b552627268faa6c0fbfa2ad650fb76a91.jpg This is a very minor update but will impact you most if: You have some form of color vision deficiency. There are now options in the Calibrate menu to freely adjust the in-game colors to your liking. Sorry this took so long everyone! I'm not color vision deficient myself and I really wanted to make sure I could make something flexible enough for all players. Everyone's vision is different and, ultimately, you'll know what works best for you more than I will. Even still, I'm not sure this will make everyone happy, but it's a start (I'm only human!). This isn't the end of CVD support: a future update will also include differences for vessel designs so players can distinguish themselves more easily when playing with friends. Don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like me to tweak something for you. It's my goal to make this game as accessible as possible. Nebulatic Update #1: Photosensitivity and AchievementsNov 14, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/c327f7e2931f93d2822c8fa61177815d417e0f98.jpg This is a very minor update but will impact you most if: You have photosensitivity. There is now a warning at the start of the game that should have been there long ago. Additionally, transcending isn't quite as bright as it was in the past. You can tweak the "glow" of the game in the Calibrate Menu if this still isn't comfortable for you. Nebula Within has officially launched!Oct 20, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/3db34c9519d0171aa32a5e5c1f0b6ad002a92f3e.jpg It's been a long time coming, but here we are! Nebula Within is finally available. Six months to the day after the stay-at-home order was issued in my state, I'm happy to say this game can finally move from the computer in my closet (aka my office) to yours. Take the plunge, contemplate, and explore the entirety of the Nebulatic Diary today. I want to take this moment to thank everyone who lent me a hand along the way. All of you kind souls are thanked and named at the start of The Nebulatic Diary, as I frankly couldn't think of a better place to honor you. To everyone who wishlisted and to everyone who grabs a copy at some point - I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope it's everything you wanted it to be. I tried my best LIVE with the Dev on World Mental Health Day Oct 3, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/230cb6394f274648696dc0e8e35fd9e784d30152.jpg We're all human beings. And you know what? 2020's been a doo-doo year in a lot of ways. In honor of World Mental Health Day, let's have a live stream where I'll play Nebula within, we can all hang out, relax, and be good to ourselves. Join here or on Twitch on Saturday October 10th I'm not a mental health professional by any means - I'm just a dude who made a game and cares. Hop in and we can talk about anything, be it this game or anything else on your heart/mind. Even if you don't stop by, try to take some time out of your Saturday to care for yourself. That can be hard to do most of the time, so don't feel like there's any one "right" way. Just know that there are other people out here who are all floating on their own tiny little boats in this big ocean around you too. You are not alone. The gates to the Nebula Within have opened...Sep 30, 2020 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37597434/50dda2e613a9876a1f0f5e3b21421eb70cd24ebd.jpg Experience the colorful & contemplative twin-stick shooter of your consciousness before it comes out: the totally free demo for Nebula Within is available now!
