This has resulted in Take-Two opposing the trademarks filed by Remedy for two different logo designs via the UK’s Intellectual Property Office, as you can see noted on the listings here and here. It’s an interesting situation to say the least, given that the companies entered an agreement to work together to facilitate remakes of the first two Max Payne games just last year. The notices revealing Take-Two’s opposition to the two trademarks linked above were spotted by RespawnFirst, which has reported that Take-Two’s opposition stems from the fact it believes “there exists a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public” regarding Remedy’s logos and its own. According to a statement given by a representative of the actor to TMZ, he passed away surrounded by friends and family on December 17, after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Fellow actor Kevin Dillon was the first to publicly acknowledge McCaffery’s death via a post on Instagram, but there was some initial confusion regarding whether this was actually in reference to the actor, due to the death of an Irish teenager with a similar name being reported around the same time. Following confirmation of his passing, Remedy paid tribute to the actor on Twitter. “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and collaborator James McCaffrey, the iconic voice of Max Payne and Alex Casey,” it said. “His remarkable talent not only gave life to our characters but also left an enduring impact on our community. After a long thirteen years, the follow-up to Remedy's 2010 thriller Alan Wake is finally out, but the developer has a lot more in store. For one, there's the Control sequel and multiplayer spin-off announced in 2021, and last year it was revealed that Remedy are working on remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2. Now, in a recent financial review, Remedy has given us some brief updates on its upcoming projects. According to the report, "Control 2 continues in the proof-of-concept stage. The plans for this sequel are ambitious, and we have seen good progress both in the designs and in the game build. We will continue at this stage for the next few quarters." It sounds like the multiplayer game, currently titled Condor, is a bit further along, as the report notes it "has progressed from the proof-of-concept to the production readiness stage. We have acquired valuable insights into developing service-based games and are now in a better position to create a game players can engage with for years." With Remedy having just released the long-awaited Alan Wake 2 to a pretty stellar reception, Lake and co look to currently be taking a well earned chance to savour the achievement before getting started on any new projects. In an interview with GQ, Lake touched on his humble beginnings in game development, seemingly suggesting that he might not have gifted his likeness to Max Payne had he been aware just how many people would see it. “If I had known how big the whole thing would become, would I have done it? I don’t know, but it would certainly have given me pause,” Lake said. He also noted that his friends, including Remedy cofounder Petri Järvilehto, once jokingly compared his appearance in the photo that eventually became part of the visual foundation of the original Max Payne’s story to that of action heroes Clint Eastwood and Bruce Willis during a flight to E3. One of the greatest games of all time, when I try to explain precisely what makes it so excellent I get so flustered and overexcited all my words just kind of merge into one big sound. Likewise, Max Payne 2, the action-adventure game sequel, remains one of the best games of 2003, especially those levels in the funhouse. With the Alan Wake 2 release date on its way and Remedy also working on the Max Payne remakes, if you haven't sampled the hard-boiled, bullet-time shooters already - or just want to slow-mo dive back into Max Payne after almost 20 years - you can get both games now for under $5. RELATED LINKS: Max Payne gets an AI-enhanced HD mod 20 years on, Max Payne is as stylish as everAug 1, 2021 - EurogamerYou've got to give it to Remedy: they know how to start a story off with a bang. As Max Payne opens, our antihero is on the summit of a skyscraper while sirens wail in the gloom below. "They were all dead," Max says with that famous frown. "The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point." We go back a few years next, to the brutal double murder of Max's wife and newborn child, then follow his revenge mission (guns do the talking, and two wrongs do indeed make a right). By acts two and three, the guns are bigger and the body count has mounted while the web of lies are slowly untangled. The next thing you know, the dénouement comes again - Max back on his perch above the tinny whine of those police cars. Starting at the end and coming full circle means Max is able to narrate the entire tale: a classic literary trick that more games ought to use. The meat of Max's bone-dry narration overlays graphic novel panels that come at the chapter breaks and during levels as well. I spoke to Kiia Kallio, who was in charge of bringing the panels to life. "Initially there were ideas for doing video cutscenes," Kallio tells me, "but there was no budget for that, so graphic novel panels were used as an alternative method of storytelling."
