Mass Effect 3

Video reveals what it was like inside BioWare during the Mass Effect 3 ending controversyOct 23, 2021 - EurogamerA new video has shed light on what it was like inside BioWare during the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy. The video below, from People Make Games, includes a raft of interviews with former BioWare developers who discuss the events leading up to the release of Mass Effect 3 in March 2012, the backlash to its ending, and the decision to update the game to address the complaints. Mass Effect 3 contained one of the most controversial endings in video game history. It presented players with three choices - each resulting in a different end state for the galaxy - but in gameplay terms there was little difference between them. Writing on the Mass Effect reddit, former BioWare designer Richard Boisvert explained the Easter egg was his creation, and there was a specific path players had to follow in order to see it properly. "As far as I know no one ever stumbled upon it," Boisvert wrote. THERE MAY BE MASS EFFECT SPOILERS AHEAD. Original party member Tali'Zorah is a quarian whose face has been one of the most popular online discussion topics about Mass Effect. Throughout the series, her face is concealed due to her having to wear a suit that protects her from disease. Read more In Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the trilogy's best ending is still available if you only play ME3May 14, 2021 - EurogamerMass Effect Legendary Edition features BioWare's full trilogy in its most accessible form yet - but it also lets you pick and choose to play individual games. Perhaps you just want to play Mass Effect 3? Or maybe you want to start with ME2, as the series fleshes out its roster of characters, and skip ME1's Mako? Well, all of this - as it always did - plays into the trilogy's big finale. Avoiding spoilers, it's worth remembering that whatever Shepard's own individual choices might be, these choices are also affected by how many War Assets you've collected across the trilogy. Read more Plotting a course: how Mass Effect 3 brought the trilogy to a closeMay 14, 2021 - EurogamerWhatever you think of Mass Effect 3's final moments, it's fair to say BioWare's third chapter brought the trilogy to a close in style. Over the course of the game, every squadmate past and present gets their turn in the spotlight, major story arcs get revisited and tied off, and Shepard is prepped for their last big mission. But how did BioWare begin planning Mass Effect 3? How much was set in stone already? And how did the studio start tackling the headache of (potentially) killing off everyone in Mass Effect 2's extraordinary Suicide Mission? To celebrate the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, I sat down for an extended interview with lead writer Mac Walters to discuss how the game's story was set down - and some of the things which changed along the way. Read on for new details of cut ideas and swapped missions, plus an early idea for an Easter egg which would have ended the whole trilogy in the first half hour of Mass Effect 1. Fair warning: if you've not yet played the Mass Effect trilogy, this article discusses plot points from throughout. New Mass Effect teaser trailer has Liara in itDec 10, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun I can hardly believe my eyes, but BioWare just revealed a teaser trailer for the next Mass Effect at The Game Awards – and Liara was in it. Blue space-wife Liara from the Mass effect trilogy was in the new Mass Effect teaser, exploring a snowy planet and picking up a discarded piece of N7 armour. What does this mean for Mass Effect 5? Will it be set in the Milky Way after all? Is Andromeda done? Who knows! Watch the trailer below and come be excited with me. (more…) Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah announce departure from BioWareDec 3, 2020 - EurogamerBioWare general manager Casey Hudson and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah have announced their departure from the studio. Hudson began his tenure at BioWare back in 1998, eventually serving as project director on the likes of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. He parted way with the company for the first time in 2014, but returned, after a brief spell at Microsoft, in 2017. In a new post announcing his retirement from the position of general manager at BioWare in order to "make way for the next generation of studio leaders", Casey wrote, "It's not an easy decision to make, and big changes like this always come with a certain degree of sadness." Mass Effect! Mass Effect!” to will news about BioWare’s sci-fi series into being. This week, our dark magic has summoned three (3!) new images of some lovely artwork for the next Mass Effect game, which the developers revealed they were working on during their N7 Day celebrations. Oooh but what can we decipher this time? Well, I already said it about the first teaser image, but I reckon these new ones even further suggest that Mass Effect 5 will be a sequel to Andromeda. (more…) Mass Effect modders have been unofficially remastering the trilogy for yearsNov 9, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun It’s been seven years since the original Mass Effect trilogy ended, and even now modders are working on all kinds of additions and improvements to Commander Shepard’s adventures. During the N7 Day celebrations on Saturday, BioWare announced the official Mass Effect remasters, but the modding community also took it as a chance to show some of the unofficial upgrades they’ve been working on over the last year. They made a video to showcase it all – and it even has a cameo from DudeShep himself, Mark Meer. For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form. It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements. As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before. Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. It will be available in Spring 2021. More information to come in the new year!BioWare are making a new Mass EffectNov 7, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Three years after Mass Effect: Andromeda failed to ignite a new sci-fi RPG saga, developers BioWare today announced they are working on “the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe.” Huh! Sure, everyone expected them to announce remasters of the original trilogy today (because chat about them has been leaking for months) but this was a surprise bonus. BioWare give no hints about the new Mass Effect’s plot, setting, or anything, simply saying they’re in the “early stages” of development. While I imagine it’s yonks away, I’m quite excited. (more…) Mass Effect: Legendary Edition remasters Shephard's stellar trilogy next yearNov 7, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Talk about the worst-kept secret in the galaxy. After months of rumbling and speculation, BioWare today announced the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, bringing all three (quiet, Andromeda) Mass Effect games into one remastered collection next year. While not full remakes, the Legendary collection spruces up Commander Shephard’s ageing space saga with better visuals, smoother performance, and all the extra DLC packed into the Normandy’s cargo bays. (more…) What if BioWare announced Mass Effect 5 this weekend?Nov 5, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun N7 Day, or Mass Effect day as you might know it, is right around the corner. This Saturday, a couple of BioWare devs and a load of the original trilogy’s voice cast are holding a “very special” panel to celebrate. Now, there are suspicions and whisperings of what may or may not be said at this panel – it would be baffling if all this fanfare wasn’t to reveal the long-rumoured remasters of Commander Shepard’s adventures. But what if! What if they threw a complete curveball and announced a fifth Mass Effect game? (more…)
