Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 faces more layoffs following recent lead departuresMay 29, 2022 - VG247Things aren't looking so good for Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13, as the studio receives more layoffs following recent lead departures. Earlier this month, a report detailed that Hangar 13 is working on a new Mafia game, this time a prequel, and that multiple big departures had taken place at the company. Studio head Haden Blackman was one of them, alongside chief operating officer Matthew Urban. Now, after already having received two sets of layoffs in 2017 and 2018, the studio has gone through further layoffs, as reported by Kotaku. According to the report, layoffs have occurred at all three sites across the world, with almost 50 losing their jobs at Hangar 13's Novato, California office. "I know it sucks," said Nick Baynes, Blackman's replacement and head of the Brighton, UK office, in a staff meeting earlier this week. According to Kotaku, Hanger 13 studio head Haden Blackman is departing the studio after seven years at the company, as announced by 2K Games earlier this week. The report states that 2K Games wrote in an email to staff that Blackman is going to "pursue his passion at a new endeavor," and Kotaku believes that the move comes with a new Mafia game in development, supposedly a prequel. "We are grateful for Haden’s leadership in establishing Hangar 13, building and uniting teams in Novato, Brighton and Czech, and releasing multiple studio-defining Mafia games and collections," wrote 2K in the internal email, as shared by VentureBeat. "What Haden helped build will continue to carry forward and grow for years to come. We support all of our employees pursuing their passions, and we wish nothing but the best for him in what’s next." Read more Mafia: Definitive Edition Out NowSep 29, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsSome 18 years after the critically acclaimed Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven first invited players to live the life of a gangster during the Prohibition Era, we're excited to announce that Mafia: Definitive Edition—a complete remake of the original game—is now available. The centerpiece of the Mafia: Trilogy bundle, Mafia: Definitive Edition tells the story of Tommy Angelo, a Lost Heaven cab driver who becomes enamored with a life in organized crime after an opportune brush with the Italian Mafia. It's the same enthralling story you might remember from the 2002 game, but fully remade from the ground-up and expanded, with beautiful presentation including stunning new visuals and an original orchestral score. The missions you take on after joining the ranks of a crime family at war are faithful to those that Tommy first tackled in 2002, but play quite differently courtesy of reworked vehicle handling, enhanced melee combat, a new cover system, the introduction of motorcycles, and a host of other improvements. Mafia: Definitive Edition is more accessible than the original game by design, but there are difficulty settings to suit newcomers and experienced mafiosos alike, including the most challenging Classic Difficulty setting, which incorporates a number of old-school Mafia features. In another nod to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, Mafia: Definitive Edition also includes a Free Ride mode that lets you explore the map and search for hidden collectibles and secrets at your own pace. Mafia: Definitive Edition has been a labor of love for Hangar 13 and will continue to be even now that the game has launched. We've been paying close attention to your feedback, and we're planning to update the game with additional HUD customization options and some other cool stuff in the coming weeks. Check back for more details soon. Whether this will be your first time experiencing Tommy Angelo's story or your fiftieth, we hope you enjoy your time with Mafia: Definitive Edition and we're excited to hear about your adventures in and around Lost Heaven.Mafia: Definitive Edition remake officially announced for AugustMay 19, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun A real pretty remake of Mafia is coming on August 28, 2K announced today. After accidentally blowing the surprise last week, they’ve now made Mafia: Definitive Edition official. As well as remaking the 2002 wiseguy ’em up, they’ve given the less-good 2010 sequel Mafia II a less-dramatic remastering, which is due to launch today as a free update. And Mafia III is getting its DLC thrown in for free. Together, they call this Mafia: Trilogy. (more…) 2K announce an announcement for next week that's definitely a Mafia remakeMay 13, 2020 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunDon’t ya love a teaser trailer for an announcement that’s also a trailer for a game that’s coming out in three months? Classic. 2K have put up a new Mafia trailer today to announce that they’ll make a real announcement next week. At least part of the reveal looks to be a remake of the original gangster ’em up Mafia game, according to a Microsoft Store page that’s already floating around. (more…) Mafia teases a return after two years of criminal radio silenceMay 10, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Mafia is back online. Two years after its last post, longer still since the last piece of Mafia III DLC came and went, the open-world crime ’em up’s Twitter account has poked the hornet’s nest by tweeting out one word earlier today. Are they teasing a sequel? Lining up for a remaster? Or is this just a quiet love of familial bonds from an online brand? Right now, it’s anyone’s guess. (more…) Mafia returns to sale after vanishing for five yearsOct 20, 2017 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunAfter five years of not being sold for download anywhere (and long being out-of-print on disc), the first Mafia has returned to sale. GOG this week dredged the digital bay, hauled the crime ’em up out, and chipped off its concrete boots to re-release it DRM-free. This version has an edited soundtrack with the licensed music removed, mind. Presumably music licenses expiring is what got the game pulled from sale back in 2012. I’ve not played Mafia since ooh it was on CD, so I am tempted to see how it feels 15 years after it came out – and after two sequels of varying quality and direction. Given that this was the first public showing of the game, which probably won’t see release until the second half of 2016, that’s to be expected. The vertical slice shown had a lot to cover: a new city, a new time period, a new protagonist, and a new take on open world criminal conquest. Perhaps it’s understandable that the new was hammered home with all the subtlety of a blow from Mjolnir, but it’s fair to say that the road to New Orleans looks rather treacherous. And that brings us to item number one…Get 80% off Mafia II!Jul 29, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsGet 80% off Mafia II! Get ready for #Mafia3 news August 5. It was a baffling mystery that set alight the minds’ of the world’s greatest detectives and the games press. The clues were right in front of us all but what did they mean?
