While your team rests, they'll also boost the overall production of your player base. Imagine returning to the game to find your resources have grown thanks to the strategic breaks your mercenaries take. Buckle up as we dive into the latest, most exciting updates from the world of Lost Region. Let's kick off with some groundbreaking news and features that are sure to enhance your gaming experience! Check out our social pages. LinkedIn Facebook 1. Next-Level Gaming: Unreal Engine 5.3 Upgrade Big news for tech enthusiasts! Lost Region has made a significant leap by transitioning from Unreal Engine 5.1 to Unreal Engine 5.3. This upgrade isn't just a small step. It's a giant leap for gamer-kind! Why, you ask? Well, Unreal Engine 5.3 is fixing a lot of issues the list would take another blog to describe. Overall this means smoother gameplay, breathtaking graphics, and an immersive experience that will make you feel like you're actually living in the Lost Region. Also, it would ease further development. 2. Train While You're Away: Introducing Training Facilities Now, this is a game-changer for all the busy bees out there! Lost Region introduces training facilities in players' bases. Picture this: your mercenaries are leveling up and honing their skills, even when you're not in the game. But remember, not all skills can be mastered in a cozy base. Some require the heat of battle, the taste of lead and blood. Your mercenaries will need to step onto the battlefield eventually to acquire certain elite skills. Of course, such training would cost money, so to sustain the training facility you'll need to make money while you are online. 3. Community Challenges: Powering Up with Unity In the Lost Region, unity might be a rare commodity among factions, but when it comes to community challenges, everyone's on the same page. An example of such a challenge is re-launching the dam, for instance. This isn't just any task; it's a mission that unites all players for a common goal - free electricity for everyone! But here's the twist: post-launch, the dam becomes a coveted conquest point. It can be damaged and put out of action, leading to the loss of those sweet bonuses and triggering the need to restart the challenge. It's up to the players to protect and sustain this crucial infrastructure. Talk about having the power in your hands! That's all for this month's edition of Lost Region Monthly. Stay tuned for more updates! 🎮🌟 Lost Region Development PlansDec 26, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone, my name is Konstantine Lisetskiy, and I am the co-founder and CTO of Farom Studio. In this post, I would like to update you on the current status of Lost Region's development, when it will be available, the plans for Lost Region, and the studio's long-term vision. Firstly, Lost Region is still in active development, and we have not stopped working on the game for a single day. It's a ambitious project that requires significant capital and time investment, and while we have already invested a lot, we still need time for version 1.0. We want to avoid releasing incomplete patches, and we are reevaluating some aspects and mechanics planned for the game. As a result, it is not ready for a wide audience showcase at the moment. Secondly, we plan to have a closed beta for those who have already purchased the game, but it will be when the beta reaches version 0.9, which is still far away, and it won't last long. The beta is crucial for stress testing servers, the game's economy system, and determining the optimal player capacity on one server. After the initial setback, where we received 19% positive reviews due to a lack of QA at the start, relying on the community, we have decided to move away from using volunteers for testing. Our fault lies in not thoroughly checking and possibly trusting the wrong individuals. However, our optimism regarding the project remains, and we still believe in it. In our plans, we aim to make the game free, as we want to see many players in the world of Lost Region and support the game with updates for many years. There will be a premium account in the game, and for those who purchased the game before version 1.0, this account will be granted for life. When players hear about a free version, they often think about monetization. We assure you that the emphasis will be on industry-standard customization of characters, bases, and transport. We do not plan to introduce any imbalance through purchases, as it would harm the game in its early days. And the final point, regarding the studio's plans. Since the early access release of LR, our team has grown from 5 to almost 60 people. Our studio actively engages in outsourcing other projects to fund the development of Lost Region. Next year, we plan to showcase our second game, which is already in the production stage and will bring in additional funds to invest in Lost Region's development. In the past year, we received the Epic Megagrant and the Amazon AWS grant for servers. Both grants assist us in the project's development, but it's still not enough to cover all our needs. Keep an eye on the studio's updates; we will keep you informed as new information comes in. Happy New Year! Konstantine Lisetskiy Farom Studio CTODevelopment News #1Dec 22, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/66524e6dda1b1cea0757d9e9927be3b73eabf8e0.png Welcome to the updated version of weekly news, development news! Check out our social pages. LinkedIn Facebook 1. Faction Bases Reworked: A Tale of Two Factions The Anarchists: Cobra The Cobra faction, known for their rebellious spirit and disdain for the old world order, has undergone a major transformation. Their base is no longer just a prison; it's a bustling town teeming with activities. Imagine wandering through lively streets, where stores and markets offer a variety of goods. Need a break from the chaos? Relax at the local pub or engage in crafting in the new production area. The Defenders: Sentinel Alliance The Sentinel Alliance, staunch defenders of the old world's remnants, also have a revamped base. Picture a more structured and orderly town paced in the airport, reflecting their disciplined nature. Here, you'll find quest givers who'll challenge you with intriguing missions. Fancy some downtime? Try your hand at mini-games like poker or darts, or hone your skills at the shooting range with an array of guns available for purchase. Game Design Insight: Mini-games within a game not only provide variety but also allow players to engage with the game world in a more relaxed setting, often offering a break from the main storyline. 2. Capturing: A New Way to Acquire Mercenaries In the unforgiving world of "Lost Region", every decision counts, especially when it comes to survival. Our new capturing mechanic introduces a strategic element to acquiring mercenaries. Encounter a downed enemy? You now have the choice to save them, potentially gaining a new, already leveled-up mercenary with unique skills. But remember, not all are willing to join your cause, adding a layer of unpredictability to each encounter. New Twist: While your mercenaries are safe from being captured by enemies, there's a thrilling element of risk involved. If a mercenary is Missing In Action (MIA) – left behind and not saved by you – their fate takes a mysterious turn. The world of "Lost Region" is ever-evolving, and an MIA mercenary could reappear in various scenarios. Imagine the suspense of encountering a former ally, now a potential adversary, in an unexpected twist of fate! Weekly News #198Nov 7, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Winter is coming, and so is weekly news! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Dynamic weather system The weather changes are not merely cosmetic but also play a significant role in the gameplay. For instance, since winter is coming, there is a chance that it will be cold and snowy. Players will need appropriate winter gear to survive. Without it, they risk frostbite and reduced stamina. Water, if not stored in a thermal container, may freeze, making it inaccessible until it thaws. During summer, the weather could become very hot and lead to Drought. In a drought, water becomes a precious resource. Mercenaries will consume water more quickly, highlighting the importance of hydration. Failing to wear a hat can even lead to sunstroke, making headgear a vital part of your survival kit. And not to mention that your base that could have some agricultural activity can be affected as well. The dynamic weather system extends beyond survival and affects the in-game economy. Resources like food and water become scarcer during extreme weather conditions, leading to increased market prices and the potential for economic exploitation. Smart players can adapt their strategies to profit from these fluctuations. Scavenging is a core aspect of Lost Region's gameplay, and weather conditions add complexity. During winter, players must prioritize finding shelter and warm clothing. In droughts, hunting for water sources becomes a top priority. Adapting to the weather and planning your scavenging trips accordingly can mean the difference between life and death in the Lost Region. Monthly news Lost Region is moving to monthly instead of weekly news. The reason is that we already implemented all that it is in GDD (game design document), and right now, we are focusing on balancing and merging all the features. Major updates would be displaced in monthly news and a summary of the project's results. Stay warm, folks! Weekly News #197Oct 27, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Rise your hands for the weekly news! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Hands up! Baby, hands up! A new emote - "Hands Up." Initially designed for player-to-player interactions, this emote now opens up a whole new dimension of engagement with NPCs in the game. By triggering the "Hands Up" emote, players can convey their intention to surrender or seek peace during encounters with NPCs. This emote serves as a non-verbal signal, indicating that you are willing to de-escalate a situation and avoid confrontation. What makes the "Hands Up" emote truly fascinating is that it can influence how NPCs react to your presence. Depending on several factors, NPCs may decide to cease their attacks, providing you with an opportunity to negotiate or escape. The outcome of using the "Hands Up" emote is not solely random; it depends on various factors, including: -Reputation with NPC Faction: Your standing with the NPC faction plays a crucial role in determining whether they will respond positively to your gesture. -Number of NPCs Defeated: If you've defeated other NPCs from the same faction, it might affect how they react to your gesture. -Player Toughness: Player toughness is a new parameter, and we'll reveal more details in an upcoming Weekly News. It will help the game determine whether you are a seasoned player or a newcomer, impacting how NPCs perceive your actions. Hands down for weekly, but hands up for the upcoming weekend!Weekly News #196Oct 20, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Cross weekly news! Lets get to the news! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Crosshair? No-more! To elevate the immersion and challenge of Lost Region, the development team has decided to bid farewell to the traditional GUI crosshair. This bold move is designed to provide players with a more authentic and immersive experience, encouraging you to rely on your instincts, aim, and precision when taking down your adversaries. Without the trusty crosshair to guide your shots, the shooting system has received a significant overhaul to ensure comfortable and precise aiming. The updated shooting mechanics will make targeting more realistic, requiring you to rely on the iron sights of your weapon. This means you'll need to hone your skills and adapt to various weapons, each with its unique feel and aiming characteristics. For players who still prefer having a visual aid for aiming, the development team has introduced an innovative solution – the Laser Sight. This nifty accessory attaches to your weapon, providing a visible laser beam to help you target your shots accurately. The laser sight aims to offer the best of both worlds, catering to those who miss the crosshair and those who want to keep the realism alive. Now use that laser sight to point yourself somewhere nice! Have a great weekend! ;)Weekly News #195Oct 15, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Weekly news. A little bit of optimization a little bit of features. Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Optimizations As the Lost Region universe continues to grow and evolve, our development team is dedicated to ensuring that your gameplay remains smooth and immersive. With the addition of new locations and the expansion of existing ones, it's crucial that our open world is not only visually stunning but also performs optimally on a wide range of gaming systems. The optimization process is a top priority for us. Here's a glimpse of what we're doing to ensure that you enjoy a seamless gaming experience in our expansive open world: 1. Streamlined Assets: Our team is diligently optimizing assets, removing any unnecessary elements to reduce the strain on your hardware. 2. Textures and Shaders: We're fine-tuning textures and shaders to strike the perfect balance between visual fidelity and performance. 3. Level-of-Detail (LOD) Systems: Implementing LOD systems ensures that objects in the distance are rendered at lower detail levels, helping maintain a high frame rate without sacrificing visual quality. This is a routine stage that takes some time, but without it it would be hard to play LR on PCs that are not mega machines. SOS Survival in Lost Region is a thrilling challenge, but we're thrilled to introduce a game-changing feature that will add a new layer of realism, tension, and camaraderie to your solo adventures. Get ready for the SOS feature, a lifeline in the wilderness that will test your wit, timing, and reputation in the game. Players often find themselves facing difficult situations when traveling alone. Whether it's a sudden ambush, a shortage of supplies, or an overwhelming horde of foes, you no longer have to face these perils on your own. Thanks to the SOS feature, your cry for help can be heard by your friendly factions. As previously mentioned in our news blog, the SOS feature is tied to the walkie-talkie item. Players who possess a walkie-talkie will have the means to call for help. SOS is not a free pass to assistance. When you call for help, it comes at a cost. You will need to spend a portion of your hard-earned reputation points to request the assistance of your friendly faction. We are balancing the feature so that it will not be the all-time solution, further updates coming in next news blogs. HAGW. It is my new way to say Have A Great Weekend! ;)Weekly News #194Oct 6, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Small and wanted weekly news! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Small things that matter A portion of realism for your eyes. In most survival games, there are a lot of things you can loot, and most of them are just materials in different forms, we also have a lot of things that you can convert to materials but we also want to add meaning to small items that you can find in the game, some of them still can be used in a different way. For instance, map, if don't have any you will not see the locations around, however, if your mercenary is local (perk that could occur) he will know some of the locations. Walkie-talkie, simple as that, enables you to speak with squad mates and use global chat. A pen, a very simple thing that will allow you to place markers on the map, or if you still don't have a map draw one by using pen and some paper. And of course, small combinations that are already common for players such as you need a can opener or a knife or a screwdriver to open a can. Most wanted Faction will be able to place players who are bothering them too much on the most wanted board, meaning that other players would be able to earn some money (depending on the wanted player). But this feature doesn't finish there, since players could be aggressive to each other, those who are willing to pay will be able to put other players on this board. Unlike faction, players do need to meet some requirements to be able to put other players on the wanted board. 1. Player must commit a kill against another player merc. 2. Player must have enough money to pay the reward 3. Player who wants to place player on the wanted board can't be on the wanted board himself Note that when we say player we do mean players mercenary. Unlike this small wanted weekly news, have a big but still wanted weekend! ;)Weekly News #193Sep 29, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg WNR! Weekly news round here! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Returning to global events In one of the previous weekly news round, we've shared some details regarding global events. We have returned to this feature in order to rebalance it a bit. Firstly new players will not be able to participate in such events until they've finished introduction missions and get some gear. The second change is that PMC would be placed in battle with other PMCs or if there are none with people who fight in the squad. These changes are crucial to control the PMC zerg rush on those events. Moreover, rewards would be granted depending on your outcome for the global event, meaning only winning would be rewarded. However, the losing side would be compensated a bit depending on the event itself and the reputation factor with the major faction. Since this is one of the milestones of the game we need to keep a close eye on this feature. PMC in global events Unlike solo players or regular players' squads PMC participation in global event would be slightly more complicated. First of all in order to participate in global events as PMC someone with the needed permission needs to put the PMC in a global event round, which would unlock specific rewards for PMCs in case if they are on the winning side and they've actually done something to achieve this victory. However, in order to perform this action the PMC would need to have resources to sustain the operation, basically, PMC would need fuel and ammo to sustain the operation, which would be deposited once the operation is launched. The rewards would become bigger for PMCs, but only decent PMCs would be able to participate in this kind of events. Those who are not that tough would need to level up the PMC or participate in the event as a regular players squad or as a solo merc. As always, have an outstanding weekend! ;)Weekly News #192Sep 22, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Autumn cleaning and weekly news! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Optimization round There has been a lot of content added to the game and that is why we need to perform rounds of optimization. The optimization would be both graphical and code, during this period of time we will not develop any new features, only content will continue to be produced. The larger the map becomes the more often we need to return to optimization to ensure that thing called streaming will not be googled by our players. Along with optimizing, there would be a bug-fixing round which is also the reason for the pause in feature development. During this pause, we will confirm a vertical slice of all features that are now in game. Friends Squad While game-play features are on pause social features continue to expand. If you have friends or people that you are always welcome to play with you can create an everlasting squad which would be free to access by your friends and they will be able to sign into squad automatically. This is a small user experience improvement that will save a couple of seconds of clicking. We are also working on some features regarding friends mercenaries, but can't share details right now. Social features would be one of the main focuses of the game, we it to feel like you are playing a coop game until you meet another coop gang. Keep friends close and best friends even closer! Have a great weekend! ;)Weekly News #191Sep 16, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg It's Saturday, my dudes! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Base Players as you know also will have base. We will provide different variations for players to pick. After finishing the intro player would choose from 3 types of bases, every one of which would have its own bonuses. Hidden cave base would have an opportunity to have an additional entry spot on the global map, which would provide more flexible looting, but it would take more resources to build something in the cave as well and it would be more expensive to maintain the cave base. The second variant is the farm base which would provide food and water, the farm base would be the most balanced in terms of cost and maintenance, using this base players would less think about the base itself since the base is self-sufficient enough. The third is industrial base, this is the best option for players who like to build and manage the base, the industrial base would be placed in an abandoned factory which would provide additional production capacity, but this type of base would require fuel and electricity to be sufficient, the best option for crafting and building fans. Craft or buy We are working to make craft not only the way to craft yourself something good but also the way to earn money. If you have merc who is good at crafting you would be able to advance his skills and as a result, he would be able to craft top-quality gear. That gear can't be bought from NPC traders, so the only way to obtain this kind of stuff is to craft or buy it from other players. Also, we are working on new ways of player interaction, which will allow us to lease the craftsman to other players, yet another way to earn money without killing. Basically making mercs your most valuable assets, losing them would be a big no-no. That's all for this week, have a great weekend folks! ;)Weekly News #190Sep 8, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg We are back! Weekly news, how I missed them. Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook HQ additions Faction HQ is a social hub with marketplaces and a lot of activities that can be performed in these places. To be able to access, you will need at least a neutral relationship with the faction itself. Previously, these places were used just to trade, shop, and meet other players without fear of getting shot. Now it would be another entry point of the world map as well as another exit point. However, the faction would take something as a payment for security exit from the map. That is until you reach a higher reputation with the faction so that they will see you as their own member. Note that while it is safer to exit the location from faction HQ, all people around you know where those HQs are, so you are not completely safe. Keeping between factions You might noticed that we are making the game the way that players would be able to choose one of the factions or choose none. For those who don't want to be aligned with any faction, even though it would give certain benefits, we are adding raids on faction bases. It may sound like an easier way to obtain certain faction technologies, but there are different bases with different technologies stored, so it may take some time before you get what you want. This trick allows lone wolves (players who don't want to be faction allies) and players from opposite factions to get access to stuff that is provided by the factions that players don't have access to. We are still working on it. We need to balance some things out so that one method would not be greater than the other. Faction news! Have a great weekend, folks! :)Gamescom 2023 ResultsSep 1, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsGamescom 2023 Results Hey, gamers and game enthusiasts! Let's roll up. Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook Long term PMC contracts Another addition to PMC (clans) would be long-term contracts. These contracts can be created by the PMC owner or any other PMC member who would have the rights to create such contracts. These contracts are resource focused, meaning that the subject of the contract would be some kind of resource both rare and common. There will be an option to either make this contract public or PMC only, it will allow PMC to use the freelancers to obtain resources and reward their own privates for their hard work since public contracts can be accepted by PMC members as well. This is just a small piece of the PMC mechanics we are working on. PMC ownership A private Military Company is a business, bloody and dirty. And what usually happens to this kind of business? It either will be taken, it will be closed or it would be sold. We are adding an option to sell your PMC which will automatically rank up the buyer to the owner and rank down the seller to private (by default). Optionally you will be able to set terms with details, such as the rank which will be seller after the operation is completed and whether it would be possible to fire the seller afterward. PMC cost can't be less than the PMC assets that would be transferred to the buyer. So if you see that PMC bank is getting cleared, you might ask the command what is going on. That was a PMC weekly, PMC ya guys next time! I mean cya ;)Weekly News #188Jul 21, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33156564/1ad47a8f9dcfc69408f5502db99c60083993b162.jpg Watch your step! Weekly News! Check the full weekly report on our social pages. linkedin facebook New ways to die New ways to die, is a way to describe shortly the work we've doing. We've added a lot of traps that would be used by NPCs and might be used by players. Trap could be a poison one that would cut other players capability to run or to escape. It would mess with vision, sound, and many other aspects would become damaged one way or another. There will be antidotes, but antidotes are expensive and it would require skills and resources to craft those. We also added traps that would harm by dealing permanent (with the opportunity to remove it) damage to stats, these traps will not be able to kill your opponent but they would weaken him for a long time. This is a small part of traps collection and NPCs would use them. The next post would also spread some light on countermeasures against such tactics. Class Update Mercenaries have different skills and while in Lost Region players could be everybody, some of the mercenaries are better in mining and trap art others are better at brute force fighting and sniping. Meaning different mercs would learn different skills at different speed, and some skills would be capped by level. We are working to make all classes would be useful, however, some are much better in different situations. For example, fighting in offices buildings, or tunnels makes trappers the most dangerous enemies. Since they can set traps really fast, and the traps they placed are much more dangerous. Also, trappers know how those things work, so for them it much easier to find those traps disarm them, and even reuse them. So if you are going on a mission that would involve close quarters think about trapper. Currently, we have 8 classes and we are working on several more. We will update about the progress shortly As always, have fun on the weekend! Cya guys next week! ;)
