Killmonday Games started with the idea of achieving creative freedom in the form of video games. Interactive experiences that would explore life in-itself, and with it play and the whole range of feelings. As you know, we have released two games, Fran Bow and Little Misfortune, giving us economic freedom. After the release of Little Misfortune, we wanted to expand the company, from being two people, Isak and I, to a larger team, so we could release something more complex. The journey into expanding the company was incredibly scary and difficult, as none of us had previous experience being company owners and for that matter, bosses. We just wanted to create! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33917899/d931a23800ffc30c9dc8c90e5d82d7c16e0ce05b.gif Details from the project "Benjamin Game" To make possible the goal of expanding the company to later create more complex games, Isak and I got to take the role of “boss” and start guiding others to understand our vision. But things were not as expected. There were a lot of Human Resources matters to attend. With more people we needed better communication skills. We needed to understand how to delegate and how to navigate the everyday with feedback, guidance and creativity. I saw the need to study, to gain insights on how things could be done. I read several books about company building, management systems and how to be a better leader. I attended a few courses in leadership both digitally and on sight. All of this, while also keeping an eye on the team as individuals, guiding the game projects we were creating and managing the Killmonday Shop. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33917899/a45e7ba28f6e090c3391bf48cd1c0dc8d6d0391d.gif Details from the project "Fran Bow 2" My body was becoming a sad, angry, resentful husk, as I got less and less help from my partner, as the system to drive the company became more complex. Isak was withdrawing from the responsibility as the stress was eating him alive. And indeed, I have no idea how I kept carrying this goal forward for so long myself. I was tired and saw no meaning in a lot of things I was doing, but it was for the “greater good”. The bigger game! While I was getting sicker and sicker. And this is due to my incapability to ask for help, open up and show myself vulnerable. I wasn’t able to ask for the right support and I was being a people pleaser with my employees. *Side note: This made them respect me less and less. We did achieve a lot of things during this period, though, but my energy wasn’t keeping up and it wasn’t sustainable. And many of the projects weren’t completed either. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33917899/666e8bfb880e57015b1216cf08e3b420fc6da520.gif {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33917899/64bca406293a1534ec01cd82d0efc248dded8571.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33917899/c1ffa4c08172c34c6edce6340c3ea8424344347a.png Details from Fran Bow Chapter 6 I was focused on achieving, to feel more secure about myself, my worth. Good luck! The delightfully weird adventure Little Misfortune has releasedSep 18, 2019 - GamingOnLinuxFrom the creator of Fran Bow and sharing the same world comes another slightly strange adventure with Little Misfortune, out today with Linux support. Little Misfortune, the game about a girl and the voice in her head, is out todaySep 18, 2019 - PC GamerLittle Misfortune is an oddball, oddly creepy adventure game from Fran Bow studio Killmonday Games about a little girl and her friend, Mr. Voice, who convinces her to embark upon a quest in the woods to discover Eternal Happiness. It looks and sounds kind of cute, as long as you don't pay too much mind to the underlying concept of a young girl being led into the forest by a voice in her head. That's pretty clearly disturbing—and, as far as I can tell, far closer to what the game is actually like. The list of individual features hints at more weirdness. You can pet a doggy, a fishy, a wolfie, the Kraken, the kitty and the foxy; you can also visit a pet cemetery with a shovel. Fall in love. Commit petty crimes. There's a monster! Despite the often unpleasant strangeness all around her, Little Misfortune herself seems quite nice: She seeks Eternal Happiness not for herself, but as a gift for her mother, who doesn't talk to her and drinks too much "juice." And remember: There is no right or wrong. Only consequences. It looks like there will be moments of humor and sadness, and a pretty dark tone throughout, but the art, music, and voices are excellent, and as an exploration-adventure that careens off into unexpected (and also sometimes unpleasant—Little Misfortune's home life is really not good) places, I think it looks promising. For those who don't share my confidence (or would just like a better idea of what exactly is going on here), a demo is available from Steam and Itch.io; the full game can be had at Steam, GOG, Humble, and Origin. Eternal happiness awaits when Little Misfortune arrives later this monthSep 3, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Nominative determinism, eh? It should be outlawed. If I’d been unfortunate enough to have “Misfortune” penned on my birth certificate I’d be off to the Deed Poll before even leaving the hospital. That’s negligent parenting, Mrs Hernandez, and I’ll see you in court – even if you do happen to be a skeleton. Fran Bow might’ve gotten off easy, but Killmonday’s follow-up Little Misfortune is basically kicking their young lead while she’s down. (more…) Fran Bow dev's adorably macabre narrative adventure Little Misfortune is out this monthSep 2, 2019 - EurogamerKillmonday Games, the developer behind 2015's delightfully macabre fairytale horror Fran Bow, has announced that its next deliciously sinister adventure, Little Misfortune, will be making its way to PC on 18th September. Little Miss Fortune, which unfolds in the same wonderfully off-kilter universe as its predecessor, tells the story of Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, an 8-year-old girl on a quest to find Eternal Happiness as a gift for her mother. She's aided by her newfound friend Mr. Voice, and together they venture into the woods "where mysteries are unraveled and a little bit of bad luck unfolds." Killmonday describes Little Misfortune as an "exploration-focussed interactive story", in which the choices you make will have consequences. As events unfold, you'll be given the chance to "pet a doggy, a fishy, a wolfie, the Kraken, the kitty, and the foxy", visit a pet cemetery with a shovel, fall in love, and commit petty crimes. Which sounds like a weekend well spent. Read more Killing Bugs Patch v.1.1; Haunted EditionApr 26, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThanks for everyone giving us feedback on the demo and reporting in bugs! Super appreciated! We have been working the entire week after launch with fixing as much as we can and making sure it's stable. You can read below what we have changed, and if there is still spooky bugs occuring, don't hesitate telling us! Hope you had a great time with Misfortune! Now we're going back to getting the full game done :) LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE! • Deutsch misspelled as Deutch in Options/Language • Subtitles are sometimes hard to read. Added a little bit more shadow to subtitles (Will probably go through some more iterations for the full game) • Game is fully supported by Windows 7 • Problems with drop in framerate in “secret hiding spot” • Activation of “pick up the coloring book question” when using the key to advance thru Misfortune’s diary in the “secret hiding spot”. • PostFx checkbox doesn’t always keep setting when scenes change. • Made subtitles centered for easier reading • Vase puzzle has a larger area to grab and snap, and with more visual cues to when you can pick a piece up. • Fixed overlapping menu text elements in all languages. • V-sync and PostFX are ON by default. • Close button “Close ” shows correct translation now. • V-sync remembers if it was on/off when closing the game • Made the Choice text less Bold. • Art improvements for the vase puzzle when completed. • Intro video changed to WebM format for better performance. • Rare occasions made the game not return to normal speed after making a choice. • UI art improvements. • Performance fixes for the backyard. Little Misfortune demo is delightfully darkApr 23, 2019 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunCall me a masochist, but I’m a sucker for a depressing story – especially one that comes in a deceptively adorable package. Developers Killmonday Games cater to weirdos like me with their beautifully creepy stories, first with the Alice-in-Wonderlandesque Fran Bow and now with their latest game, Little Misfortune. Its demo launched on Steam and Itch.io today, a short tale of growing up, hell, and glitter. (more…) Little Misfortune is a disturbing adventure about an 8-year-old girl on a walk in the woodsApr 22, 2019 - PC GamerLittle Misfortune is an adventure game about an eight-year-old girl, Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, who follows her new friend Mr. Voice into the deep, dark forest to seek Eternal Happiness as a gift for her mother. Sounds fine, right?  The game is all about exploration, choices, and consequences, and yes, it looks... a bit strange. But that's fine, because as of today there's a demo, so you can see what it's all about before you commit.  It's a short demo, about 15 minutes long, but it "sets the tone for the whole game," according to the description, with an introduction to the main characters, gameplay, "and the darkly mysterious world of Misfortune." It's available from Steam or, if you prefer the no-DRM route, from Itch.io—which also enables you to toss a few bucks at the developers, if you really like what you see.  I'm honestly not sure what to make of it at this point. The Steam description includes a list of features that make it sound like a spooky-cute tale—something Tim Burton might whip up for the Cartoon Network, maybe.  * You may pet a doggy, a fishy, a wolfie, the Kraken, the kitty and the foxy. * Visit a pet cemetery with a shovel. * Now with real human voices: Hear Misfortune say some pretty cute things! * Missing children. * There's a monster! * Fall in love. * Commit petty crimes. But the demo itself hints at something much darker: It looks cute but it sure doesn't play that way. Misfortune's father is abusive, her mother is neglectful, and her home life—as you'd expect, given all that—appears extremely dysfunctional.  The previous game from developer Killmonday Games might offer some insight into what to expect. Fran Bow, released in 2015, is a "creepy adventure" about a young girl "struggling with a mental disorder and an unfair destiny." It sounds awfully dark too—Fran Bow is institutionalized after witnessing the murder of her parents—but has an overwhelmingly positive user score on Steam, across more than 4200 reviews.    As unsettling as it is, I think it's very promising, too. The interface is simplistic, but the art, music, and voice work are excellent. If the story can come up to the same level, Little Misfortune could be quite an experience. It's expected to be released later this year, and there's a website with more up at littlemisfortune.com.    Demo released!Apr 22, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsGood morning sweet people! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/33917899/02eb9bfdec26379f6693f63ef124682a4d3b255b.jpg You can now finally play a little part of our new game Little Misfortune!
