Halo custodian 343 had previously said its focus on The Master Chief Collection meant it had no plans to return to Halo Wars 2, the Creative Assembly-developed real-time strategy game released in 2017. But now all the MCC titles are on PC, some had wondered whether 343 would return to updating Halo Wars 2 with new content. The news, sadly, is that Halo Wars 2 is done. Read more Play RTS Halo Wars for free next weekendOct 13, 2018 - PC GamerHalo RTS spin-off Halo Wars is having a free weekend on Steam that will start next Thursday and run until Sunday. It'll be worth jumping on: it's a solid RTS with a decent campaign that you'll enjoy even if you're not a fan of the Halo series. A weekend should give you more than enough time to get a feel for it and decide whether to buy it—or, you could just blast through the story in a couple of days and then leave it alone if you're not fussed about the multiplayer. It's the Definitive Edition, which arrived on Steam last year, that will be free from October 18-21, according to Gamespot. Halo Wars was first released on the Xbox 360 in 2009, and came to the PC remastered in 2016, but only bundled with its sequel, Halo Wars 2. The Definitive Edition is the standalone version.  There's no word yet on whether the game will go on sale during or after the free weekend: it's currently priced at $19.99 on Steam. A small update is rolling out today with improvements and fixes to a few issues the team has been tracking. Here's what's included with this patch: Added Single Player Campaign Leaderboards. Added support for keyboard text to toggle between global (/g) and team (/t) chat. Text chat sender names are now colored according to player color. Fixed various graphics errors that sometimes occurred when a large number of units were on screen at the same time. Optimized CU download sizes. Any future CUs will be much smaller. Fixed a few small crashes that were happening in obscure scenarios. Added an anti-trolling fix. Any player kicked from a lobby will not be able to rejoin for a period of time. PC Leaderboards should now say LEADERBOARDS (FRIENDS) in the header to help clarify that Leaderboards on PC are friends-only. Corrected an issue that was preventing PC users from setting desired AA values for cards that support 16x. Fixed a bug that meant changes to Graphics Options resets were occasionally not being saved. When typing chat messages, camera control will no longer be affected when using keys that also control camera movement. Fixed a crash that sometimes occurred during excessive chat messaging. We’ve addressed an issue with texture resolution changes when switching from Low to High or High to Low graphics settings. Game language will now be based on whatever language is selected in the Steam client. As always, thank you for your feedback and continued support of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition! We hope you had a great weekend playing Halo Wars: Definitive Edition here on Steam. We have another hotfix release today that addresses a few more issues the team has been tracking since release: We’ve updated Multiplayer session browsing to be searchable worldwide. Previously, players weren’t seeing games registered outside of the region set in their Steam client. You’ll now see all sessions globally regardless of your region. The game will now notify you if the Steam Overlay is disabled when you’re trying to use functions that depend on the Overlay (i.e. viewing user profiles and inviting friends). The GameConfig.dat is now more robust against bad data, which should help eliminate a crash on launch for a small number of players. We’ve also added a -safemode flag to startup, which will ignore reading the GameConfig.dat if you’ve selected settings your PC doesn’t support. This will allow players to launch the game and revert settings if needed. We’ll monitor the rollout of this update and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact on Multiplayer sessions. As always, thank you for sharing feedback and please do let us know if you encounter issues. If you do experience a problem or issue, please try to include as much detail as you can (PC specs, OS, and if you’ve been able to reproduce the issue, how you’ve done so). We're thrilled to be here and greatly appreciate your support. Speaking of support, we’ve been monitoring community feedback closely since launch and we’ve just released a hot-fix to address a few issues that have been reported by players. The hotfix moves Universal CRT to App-Local deployment, so users should no longer have to manually install VC redists. It also removes a dependency on Windows Media Foundation, which was affecting players with Windows N editions. We’re aware of a few other issues and are working diligently to resolve them – further updates are on the way. As always, please keep the great feedback coming! Thank youNow Available on Steam - Halo Wars: Definitive EditionApr 20, 2017 - Product ReleaseHalo Wars: Definitive Edition is Now Available on Steam! Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is an enhanced version of the real-time strategy classic, Halo Wars, updated to run natively on PC. Halo Wars: Definitive Edition includes improved graphics, new achievements and all of the DLC created for the landmark real-time strategy game. Halo Wars: Definitive Edition to debut on Steam later this weekApr 17, 2017 - PC GamerHalo Wars: Definitive Edition, an enhanced version of the 2009 Xbox 360 RTS, was released for the PC late last year—but only as part of a bundle with Halo Wars 2. Microsoft did however say that the game would be given a standalone release sometime in 2017, and so it transpired today that the arrival is just a few days away. Even better, it's on Steam.  In fact, as far as I can tell it's currently only available on Steam. The Windows Store app lists it separately, but at last look the entry still indicated that it's "available only as part of a bundle," specifically the Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition package. Not that it likely matters too much, since I imagine most (not all, but most) potential players would rather opt for the Steam version anyway.    The Steam release has been "updated to run natively on PC," with "improved graphics, new achievements, and all the DLC" that was released for the console version. Controller support, Steam Cloud saves, and Steam leaderboards are in there, too. One thing that is not, however, is compatibility with the Windows Store version for online play: "Network play for this product is exclusive to Steam," the listing says. "Cross-play with Windows Store versions of the same game is not supported."  Halo Wars: Definitive Edition will go live on Steam on April 20. A price hasn't been revealed yet, but this is what you'll need to play:  The Unggoy:  * OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or higher; * Processor: Intel Core i3 or Equivalent; * Memory: 4 GB RAM; * Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4200 NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M AMD Radeon R5 M240; * DirectX: Version 11; * Network: Broadband Internet connection; * Storage: 12 GB available space; The Sangheili: * OS: Windows 10 64-bit; * Processor: Intel Core i5 or Equivalent; * Memory: 8 GB RAM; * Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 560, 650, 750 AMD HD 5850, 6870, 7790; * DirectX: Version 11; * Network: Broadband Internet connection; * Storage: 12 GB available space;
