Grand Theft Auto III

After more than two years, GTA 3 has an amazing new speedrun recordJan 9, 2024 - PCGamesNHow long does it take you to finish Grand Theft Auto 3? Rockstar's pioneering open-world crime game might seem small by today's standards, but even focusing entirely on the story missions, it's still massive. Portland. Staunton Island. Shoreside Vale. All the races, the gunfights, the nightmare of Espresso 2 Go. If you finished GTA 3 in less than ten hours, you'd probably think that was pretty fast. Well, as we wait for the arrival of GTA 6, it turns out there are still new ways to bend, break, and accelerate Grand Theft Auto 3, and finish it in world-record time. It's taken more than two years, but with AGDQ about to kick off, GTA 3 speedruns have a new champion. Read the rest of the story... Few names are as industry-defining as the Grand Theft Auto series, so it's no surprise that we're all eagerly waiting to see exactly what Rockstar Games has in store for us next. But before the success of GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Bully, it was the trilogy of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas that truly elevated the company to, well, rockstar levels within the game industry, and if you've never experienced them yourself or simply fancy revisiting the classics, a new Steam sale is here to make it cheaper. But then came GTA Definitive Edition. Over a year since Grand Theft Auto DE launched, we're still waiting on bug fixes from Rockstar (and maybe a Red Dead Redemption 2 update, while they're at it). Nevertheless, GTA Definitive Edition is now on the Epic Games Store, after its recent arrival on Steam. It's still buggy, but it's going for cheap, so might be worth another try as we wait - and wait - for the GTA 6 release date. Read the rest of the story... Despite a 50% discount however, the remasters of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are struggling to find a substantive player base on Valve's platform, as many of the bugs and visual issues that hampered the original launch of Definitive Edition remain in the re-release. Hopefully the new GTA Trilogy 1.04 update will get this collection of some of the best open-world games ever made back on track. The GTA Trilogy remasters came out in November last year and were immediately called out by groups of players due to a large number of issues with all three games, including some "unintentionally included" files that got it pulled from sale on PC. Take-Two's CEO promised that fixes were coming, and sure enough, today Rockstar Games released patch 1.04 for the Grand Theft Auto trilogy with a lot of improvements listed. The full patch notes can be found here. According to Rockstar Intel, on PC these updates require 18.5GB for GTA San Andreas, 8.9GB for GTA Vice City, and 4.18GB for GTA III, so they're all pretty sizeable. Read the rest of the story... Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is out, and while I hate to put too many qualitative statements about a game here in a news story, there's no way around it. It's bad. Rockstar previously provided an update on the "unexpected technical issues" plaguing the remastered open-world games and promised patches are coming and the originals getting relisted. One of those has happened, at least, although not in the way everyone would like. The original versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas are now available for free for anyone who purchased the new Trilogy - or plans to pick it up before July 1, 2022. However, there is no word on when the classic trilogy will be relisted on the Rockstar launcher to buy as a separate bundle as the developer promised - or whether the games will come back to Steam or any other PC storefronts after they were pulled in October. Despite the new versions of these classic games having higher system requirements than Rockstar's more recent Red Dead Redemption 2, anyone with an Nvidia graphics card can use Nvidia DLSS quickly and easily boost fps. The proprietary upscaling technique has provided substantial frame rate improvements with minimal loss to picture quality in many major titles, thanks to its use of artificial intelligence. While the games don't feature ray tracing, Rockstar has implemented a "completely rebuilt lighting system" as well as higher resolution textures, improved effects, and larger draw distances. With the release of a newly remastered version of the classic open-world game, it's time to make your own chaotic fun using the best GTA Trilogy cheat codes. Liberty City is a fantastic playground for a bit of the old ultra-violence, especially with the freedom to make a tank appear out of nowhere. There are more bizarre cheats, too, including ones that affect the weather, manipulate time, and tinker with your character's outfit. Here you'll find some of the useful cheat codes to use in GTA 3, though there are more out there. Before using cheats, make sure you save your game, and don't save over it once activated as this could potentially corrupt your save file. Do take care when you're inputting codes, as you can't see the codes on the screen and they won't work if you make a single mistake. Of course, given that this is a collection of multiple games, there are different GTA Vice City cheat codes, and GTA San Andreas cheat codes. Read the rest of the story... While the cause of the leak hasn't been confirmed, some players claim that the trilogy was briefly available early on the PlayStation Store in Australia. Players are sharing footage from the game on YouTube and Reddit, so you might want to keep your eyes averted if you want to avoid spoilers. As spotted by VGC, one player has shared over one hour of footage on YouTube that spans all three remastered games: Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Aside from the jazzed-up graphics, you can see new features like the weapon wheel from later GTA games and the ability to restart failed missions pronto. Elsewhere, players are reporting on Twitter and Reddit that a select few people got access to the game through the PlayStation Store in Australia ahead of time. It doesn't seem to be a simple case of being in the country, though, as one Reddit user reports that they couldn't access the game, so it's likely someone may have swiftly fixed the reported error. Contrary to initial reports, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will launch this year, but there's a catch - it's going to be exclusive to the Rockstar Games Launcher, and the original games will be removed from Steam prior to launch. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition hits PC via the Rockstar Launcher, Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S and X this year. Existing versions of the games will be removed from all console and PC digital storefronts, including Steam, starting the week of October 11. If you already own the games, you'll still be able to install and play them. So get them while you can. As the name suggests, The Trilogy will feature GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Rockstar says in a press release that the collection will "feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals". They will resemble a "heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title" - alongside an updated UI, but with gameplay which sticks "true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible". What's so significant about this particular project is that it's built on completely reverse engineered source code of Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It's also been ported over to the Nintendo Switch, Playstation Vita and Nintendo Wii U. Under US law, reverse engineering is generally legal. To further minimise encroachment of the law, the developers avoided using any leaked source code, and any copyrighted assets such as music, dialogue and images. Rather, players need to own the original game in order to get those assets. Take-Two claims it's "pretty flexible" when it comes to such things, but it will take action when there's "bad behaviour" or "the economy is threatened". "In terms of takedowns, we're pretty flexible, frankly," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says during today's financial earnings call, in response to a question about the DMCA takedowns from an investor. "That said, if the economy is threatened, or if there's bad behaviour, and we know how to define that, then we would issue a takedown notice." The reverse-engineering projects for GTA 3 and Vice City were pulled from GitHub earlier this year. The projects had already offered a range of improvements to the original open-world games, reducing loading times and introducing better controller compatibility. There were also plans for further improvements, such as ray tracing. Read the rest of the story...
