Golden Treasure: The Great Green

Golden Treasure now available in Spanish!Mar 12, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsAfter many months of hard work, the fully-translated Spanish language version of Golden Treasure is now available! Huge thanks go out to our tireless Spanish translator and everyone who helped test the Spanish version of the game. Language can be switched at any time via the Settings menu. We'd love to hear from any new players about their experience in the Great Green. But we're not stopping there! Many people from around the world have voiced their desire to share Golden Treasure with their friends in other languages. Our Chinese localization is making excellent progress, and we hope to have it ready by summer. Our gratitude to those who hold Golden Treasure in their hearts and push us to make it available to even more people is beyond words. May you be blessed! -LudwigDreaming Door Returns! Golden Treasure 2, Story Creator, and MoreAug 11, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThe stars are aligned, and the time has come for the Dreaming Door to open and the studio to embark on a new adventure. Over 10,000 people have now enjoyed Golden Treasure: The Great Green, our first story about coming of age as a dragon on ancient Earth. Though it released to little fanfare, its impact has been deep, and we have been honored to hear from people all over the world about how the game has changed their perceptions of the great and beautiful Onesong in which we all Dance. Since we released the free Time of Creation expansion in 2021, the studio has been resoundingly quiet, largely due to economic realities; touching hearts does not always equal making money. But Dreaming Door Studios was not made to tell just one tale, and The Great Green was never intended to be a lone ship at sea, but instead a harbor. It was a starting point from which even more new and wonderful stories can be told, art can be crafted and shared, and the story of the Draak-Kin People, spanning Time and Space without boundary, can be continued. To that end… Announcing Golden Treasure 2: Hierophant! The next chapter in the Golden Treasure saga will be like the last, but also very different. A young dragon awakens on a fascinating world far from Earth and Sun. Forced at birth into the powerful role of Hierophant, ruler and guide of an entire sentient species, they will very quickly learn that power is both a fang and a chain. With massive resources and thousands of lives at their disposal, the infant Draak-Kin begins to explore a world even more vast and varied than Old Earth, but this time, not at all alone. A grand symphony of discovery, intrigue, diplomacy, conflict and transformation begins. The dragons of Earth will take on new forms, and face a threat far more dangerous than the one that drove them to the stars. Like the Great Green, Hierophant will combine thoughtful writing, creative ideas, beautiful handmade art and outside-the-box philosophy to create something we believe will be original and wonderful. The world of Newhome is unlike any fantasy or science fiction world yet, with unique ecosystems, radically unusual species (no humans or even human-like beings exist on Newhome), new physical laws, and more. However… We shall not build it alone! After having witnessed the beautiful creative abilities of many Golden Treasure players through the art and stories they have created, we’d like to make this journey together! If you are interested in helping us build Newhome, visit our brand-new Dreaming Door Studios Patreon. There, you can learn much more about the world of Newhome and how you can influence its history and people. We would love for you to join us. Newhome awaits! The Story Creator - Out Now! In 2019, we announced that we were working on the “Infinite Green” project, a way of allowing Golden Treasure players to customize their Great Green experience, add to it, or even write whole new stories using the game engine. Though it took three and a half ...The Time of Creation Has Arrived!Apr 15, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsSpring is here, and with it, the sacred Time of Creation. It’s an exciting endeavor for all goodbeasts, and the Draak-Kin are no exception! After many, many months of writing, painting, tweaking and bug-smashing, the Time of Creation content is now ready to be released. This special addition to Golden Treasure: The Great Green adds seven unique events dealing with the creation of the next generation of the Draak. We had originally planned to release this as paid downloadable content, but the price we finally settled on was zero dollars. That’s right… the Time of Creation will be a free update! Version 1.5 of the game will also feature a host of bug fixes. Many thanks go out to the Golden Treasure community for its invaluable help in testing and fixing the new version of the game. With this, we consider the story of the Spiritkeeper complete. We will continue to keep an eye out for bugs, but there are no more major content additions planned. What’s that? You have questions? How exactly does the new content work, and how can I access it? Approximately halfway through Part 3, the player will receive a special message event telling them that the Time of Creation, as the denizens of the Great Green call it, has begun. At that point, new sigils will begin to appear on the map concerning this. Prospective partners and events will appear based on certain conditions, though there are a few which must be sought out. How many eligible Draak-Kin are featured in the expansion? Five Draak, some familiar and some new, are featured in the Time of Creation as potential partners. While it is possible to romance more than one, your reputation will suffer if you are too enterprising, so choose wisely. The future of the Draak-Kin depends on it! What is the new content rated? Is it safe for work, kids, etc.? Though the new events do deal with finding a partner in the act of Creation, this is a process as spiritual as it is physical. Dreaming Door is a place of poetry, not pornography, and neither words nor images will go beyond a PG-13 rating. What’s the status of the mod tools? Work on the Story Creator has been on hiatus for quite some time now, but we’re not giving up on it just yet! Watch this space over the next few months for further updates on bringing your own stories and art to the Great Green. We hope you enjoy the new content, and may you be blessed!Happy Holidays, and our BIGGEST SALE EVER!Dec 22, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThe solstice is upon us! Earth and Sun continue their Dance, and here on the coldward side of the planet things are dark and icy, but will grow lighter and warmer with each passing hour until summer. Many human civilizations are holding festivals of light and plenty to encourage Sun’s long journey back to supremacy. And this solstice also brings our biggest sale ever! Right now, Golden Treasure is available on Steam for a whopping for 50% off, as well as its soundtrack! We have never sold the Draak-Kin experience for so little, and we do not intend for it to ever be less. If you have not yet spread your wings, there will never be a better time! It also makes a great Steam gift for a thoughtful person on your list. The “Time of Creation” DLC is but a few weeks away, and will only cost a few dollars American. We look forward to ringing in the new year with new content and stories, and may your solstice bring you peace and power. Happy Holidays from Dreaming Door Studios! The Infinite GreenDec 20, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsGolden Treasure: The Great Green was designed with modding in mind. Though the game already boasts nearly 100 events, the unique map-based open-world structure leaves room for many, many more. Now, at last, players will be able to add their own art, writing and events, making the possibilities truly endless. I speak, of course, of the new Time of Creation content. The DLC includes seven brand-new events in Act 3 centered around continuing the Draak-Kin bloodline, complete with a new Tarot Card to unlock. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of Time of Creation, however, is the Story Creator tool which will be released alongside the new content, allowing our beloved players to craft new events. These events may be Timed Events (to be automatically triggered when the player reaches a certain point or makes certain choices) or Map Events (to be placed on the map and chosen at the player’s convenience). In time, the Great Green may grow to boast dozens or even hundreds more adventures! All players, regardless of whether or not they own the new DLC, will be able to modify their game by adding on the stories of others. The primary vehicle for this will be the Steam Workshop, which allows one to easily download custom content. Given the wonderful fan art, stories and role-playing experiences which the game has already inspired, we are hoping for many, many wonderful new entries to the world of Golden Treasure. Particularly excellent ones may even be selected to be patched into the main game (with the creator’s permission, of course). The Time of Creation DLC will mark the end of Dreaming Door’s creative journey on our first major project. Once it is released, we will turn towards the next entry in the Golden Treasure series. A great deal of design work has already been done on it, and it promises to be a completely different gameplay experience from the first, though it will feature the same high-quality art and writing for which Golden Treasure has become known. With the writing and art nearly complete, you may expect to see Time of Creation available within the month. We offer our most sincere apologies for the delay, and hope that you will join us in exploring the many meanings of Creation through this singular addition to Dreaming Door’s first gaming experience.November Rain (and update)Nov 4, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsAlas, if only it were just rain. The snow has already begun to fall here, and the coldward part of the Great Mother will soon enter its slumber and awaken to a new Turning. In the meantime, Dreaming Door Studios is hard at work on the expansion of Golden Treasure: The Great Green. Entitled Time of Creation, it adds several new events to Part 3 of the game in which the player has opportunities to help forge the next generation of the Draak-Kin. Are you worthy of performing the sacred Dance of Creation, and if so, whom might you choose (and who might choose you)? We are also working quite hard on our custom event creator. This tool will allow others to create, edit and implement their own wondrous encounters. We’ll share more details on that in the coming weeks, as well as on how the expansion will be available and for what price. (It will certainly not be more than $5 American, but we are still considering the minutiae.) While we had hoped to have it ready for all of our beloved Dreamers at the end of October, Life once again decided to interfere. Our writer/director was out of commission for over a month, pushing the release date back at least to the end of November accordingly. Rest assured that no time is being wasted! To help ease the pain, here is a sneak peek at the art for the first event of the Time of Creation. When you witness this in your journey, you will know that the Time has come! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34952300/098d2f6d2326574ab3f43dd31dc779646b9c05c7.jpgGolden Treasure Week-long Sale: 25% Off!Aug 26, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsWe are happy to announce that Golden Treasure: The Great Green will be at its lowest price ever! For the next week, the game will be 25% off! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34952300/7ef5689c288e5d34caef9d3e4cb0b423e7a13c65.jpg This is the best deal you will be able to get for some time! If you've been waiting to start your life as a dragon, now is your chance! We at Dreaming Door are hard at work expanding the game for the Time of Creation. The studio is abuzz with energy preparing for modding, additional story content and some other things that are still in progress. Until that is ready to be revealed, please take the chance to live the Golden Treasure experience at a reduced price. The Time of Creation Approaches!Aug 20, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsIn Golden Treasure: The Great Green, there exists no shortage of things to Destroy. Goodbeasts, No-Tails, dominions, possibilities… Destruction is an unavoidable fact of existence for any Draak-Kin. But every Kin also knows that Destruction is but one aspect of Life. What of its mirror-mate, Creation? What of making new experiences, perspectives, works of art, and even new Draak-Kin? Only those who dare to Create shall touch the Time-shadowed realm beyond their own existence. It is therefore with pride and excitement that Dreaming Door Studios announces its upcoming expansion for Golden Treasure: The Great Green. Entitled Time of Creation, it will add exciting new features and encounters to the open-world narrative exploration and adventure game. Time of Creation will add several new events to Part 3 in which the player can experience their first mating season as a mature Draak. Never-before-seen dragons join with long-time rivals in seeking to create the next generation of the True Children of Above and Below. Will you be able to prove your worth and win a chance to perform the sacred Dance of Creation? New hand-painted events and a new Tarot Card await those bold and wise enough to find the best mate with whom to continue the ancient legacy of the Kin. But this is only the beginning! From the first days of development, we have dreamed of others being able to create and share their own stories of the Draak with us. Over the next few moons, we will endeavor to finish work on a set of tools allowing others to modify the game with new events, art and encounters, or even to make their own entirely new sagas using the Golden Treasure framework. We hope to have this new expansion released by the end of October, 2019. Further details shall emerge in the coming weeks. You are a Creator. The potential to reveal new aspects of Reality has always slept within you. What will you bring forth from yourself? What new journeys will spring from your own? Be not afraid; to Create is noble, natural and beautiful, and the Time of Creation is coming! News From The Great GreenJul 23, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings, o Kin! One month ago, Golden Treasure: The Great Green was released on Steam. It represented the first fruits of years of labor for our small but dedicated team, and the response we have received from players has been overwhelming. As its creator, I was unsure whether Golden Treasure’s blend of adventure, philosophy, art and dragons would be enjoyed and understood by others. It seems I need not have worried. We currently hold a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with positive review averages in the high nineties. 86 players have written reviews about the experience, calling it “a masterpiece”, a “hidden gem” and much more. A few smaller-to-mid-sized sites have acknowledged us with review scores ranging from great to fantastic. Our deepest thanks go out to those who let their feelings about Golden Treasure be known. Perhaps the most gratifying responses of them all have been private. Quite a few total strangers have e-mailed me to let me know how deeply the game touched them. Some even said that the game’s beauty and message of hope as well as its deeply connected and yet non-human perspective helped them find some measure of personal peace. To hear such things has been the honor of a lifetime. For an artist, the ultimate blessing is to know that one’s work has been taken in and understood by others. We who carry dragons in our hearts have not always been embraced by the masses, but by the love which I have received in response to Golden Treasure, we are very far from alone in this world. It is for such reasons that I am left with no choice but to call Golden Treasure: The Great Green an Artistic Success. Despite this, the game is, as of a month after released, not yet a Commercial Success. Perhaps because it differs so greatly from the tendencies and tone of the industry at large, not a single major review or print site has deigned to review Golden Treasure: The Great Green. The world at large remains ignorant of its existence. We have many plans for the expansion of Golden Treasure’s world and the beginnings of a sequel have in fact already been laid down. After finishing The Great Green (and it is NOT yet finished - the Time of Creation is coming) a sequel is planned for each of the game’s primary endings. Hopefully, the upcoming weeks and months will see at least one acknowledgement from a major news source, and the interest will bring us the resources we need to keep on making experiences such as The Great Green. In the meantime, we offer our deepest appreciation to all of those who have sung out for us. In response, we will continue to persevere on the path which we have chosen, a path which leads to an undiscovered wilderness filled with beauty, strife and truth, a silver mirror for that which has been forgotten but which shines from every leaf in the forest and every star in the sky. May you be blessed, LudwigChange Log - Version 1.1.0Jul 8, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsVersion 1.1.0 Changes You may have noticed smaller changes being pushed out with out change logs. Here is a rundown of the changes. The Gallery Added access from the main menu to the Gallery. The Gallery checks on which scenes you have ever visited in the game in all lives and lets you see them again with out having to reach them during a new life. You can revisit these scenes as they were in the game, featuring the gentle parallax and animations normally present, or view the scene as a still piece of art. Scenes in the gallery include artist credits, credits for scene conception and writing, as well as Director's commentary from Ludwig. True Credits While you are able to take a look at who made the game from the main menu at any time, only by beating the game will you find the True Credits. These credits, once unlocked, will replace the original credits found on the main menu, allowing you to view them any time you'd like. Improvements Holding down the continue button allows you to speed through the text until a scene fade or an option appears. The Grade Up animation has faster individual skips and now has a full skip button. The New Day transition can now be skipped by clicking. The player Draak's body shows much more obvious changes based on current elemental mastery. Shins in Part 2 and Part 3 use new assets. No more collecting small shiny pebbles as a young adult draak. Audio improvements across the board, including a full set of sounds, music and ambiance for Part 3. Brace has been improved from 50% physical damage reduction to 75%. Armor has been increased at base from 1 to 3. Armor II has been decreased from 10 to 7. This means more damage reduction to reduce the difficulty of Part 1, but not so much damage reduction overall in parts 2 and 3. Other fixes include Removing a null room from failure against Unforgetting. Temporarily removed steam achievement unlocks so that we can add them all in at once. Look forward to showing off your tarots as Steam Achievements. Full screen is set as the default setting. With correct letter and pillar boxing, this works for more screen resolutions. Removed the ability to keep Shining Eye between part 2 and part 3. Finishing the game clears out your save file so there is no continue button on the main menu that just takes you right before the end with nothing to do but read the ending lines again. Reduced the difficulty of Allmother's Compassion Labyrinth. Removed the ability for Ants to use the powers of treasures. Various text edits and updates. Version 0.5.1 and 0.5.2 Change Log Additional audio updates for Part 2, Part 3 and the Compassion Labyrinth Fixed a bug in which the game would softlock in Part 1 if defeating the No Tails outside of the den and then defeating Twist in battle Shiny things were not visible due to a scaling error Changed a font in the game pertaining to a hidden message Capitalization on the words Body and Mind in pertaining to beings Updated a flash found in the Fire br...Q&A: Just What Will You Do In Golden Treasure?Jun 12, 2019 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34952300/63d09c9f3da761bc3c70c9068a79edd3feee06c5.jpg Dreaming Door’s first project, Golden Treasure: The Great Green, has now been officially announced and the full release is coming to Steam in June! This, of course, raises quite a few questions. In the coming weeks, we will attempt to answer some of these. We'll start with a few commonly-received inquiries: Do I actually play as a dragon in this game, or is it just about dragons? Yes, you are completely and wholly draconic in this game. You will literally have the experience of hatching from your egg, and will be one of the blessed Kin (which is what they call themselves - other beings call them the Draak) until the moment you die (or stop playing). To which genre will Golden Treasure belong? This is a frequent question, and it's honestly a little hard to answer. The best one we can give is that it is “deep role-playing". You, as a dragon, are in charge of your own life, and can choose how to spend your time. Will you hunt? Explore? Engage an owl in a riddle contest? Battle a rival for a lost artifact? Gather treasure? Seek enlightenment? The dragon you are will evolve with each choice. There are thousands of choices in the game, and each one matters. But this isn't just a choose-your-own-adventure thing - you have statistics, based on the elements, which are key in everything from being swift enough to run down a deer or being fierce enough to incinerate a bear to being eloquent enough to convince a heron to give up frogs, etc. The game features complex hunting and combat systems, and even first-person labyrinths. You must hunt regularly to stay alive, and you are exploring an open world to reveal new opportunities and ways to spend your time. Though this is a true RPG and you have attributes, you have no levels. There is no such thing as Experience Points - you learn and grow by, well, learning and growing. Magic isn't just a button you click, it's a secret of the universe which you will have to learn and fully internalize. We're striving to deliver the experience of truly being a dragon in mind and spirit as well as body, so we call it "deep roleplaying”. Others have called it a “dragon simulator”, which isn’t inaccurate either, though this description may bring to mind something quite different from the hand-painted, challenging and thoughtful experience that is Golden Treasure. So the first game is "Golden Treasure - The Great Green". Does that mean you're planning on other Golden Treasure games? Oh, yes! Most certainly. Plans exist for 5 Golden Treasure games in the long term, although of course which ones will find their way into full development will depend on how the first one is received. The life of a dragon is filled with too many possibilities to be addressed in just one game. The Great Green will be focused on life in the forest and the spirit of the land itself, but dragons don't always live in forests - each new...Beta Change Log CollectionJun 7, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsFor the last two weeks, we have been hard at work on Golden Treasure: The Great Green, getting feedback from our many testers and implementing fixes. We've been in communication with these testers, delivering our change logs directly to them whenever we made updates. However, now that the game is available to reviewers and select others, we have decided to share these change logs publicly in the actual steam community group for Golden Treasure. This is because once the game is released, we want to keep the community involved in the changes we make. Check out the change logs below on the changes we made during the beta testing period. A natural question which has arisen from this revelation: Will the player be able to interact with other dragons, and if so, how? The simple answer is a resounding YES! As for how, read on. As apex predators who require a vast amount of food to survive, dragons do not have a cuddly share-and-share-alike mentality. Territory is a matter of life and death to them in the most literal sense. The presence of another of the Kin in the territory of a Draak means that their livelihood is at stake and their treasure trove is threatened. A solitary life and sole dominion over a large territory is both a necessity and a point of pride; through territorial conflict, dragons evolve so that only the strongest survive. Progress is built through boldness, cleverness and blood, and dragons are not at all ashamed of such a reality. This is not to say that dragons only ever fight, however. A complex system of ritual observances exists to allow the Draak to communicate with each other. This arose naturally from a clear necessity, namely mating season. If a dragon will not allow other dragons into their territory during that rather important time, they will not create offspring, and, well, you don't have to be Charles Darwin to see that as a massive failure. From a series of dances and "songs" created long ago to ask permission to enter another Draak's territory for prospective mating purposes, several time-honored rituals developed which allowed dragons to create a kind of "safe space" for all kinds of interactions with others of their kind. Many learned that trade and the sharing of information helped their chances of survival. Conversation, negotiation and both physical and mental forms of competition such as riddle contests are not uncommon. Once the player establishes their territory, they will be able to meet with other dragons who own neighboring territories. Below, you can see an early appearance of a dragon nicknamed Tempest (proper dragon names are very long, and so most become known by monikers), who rules over several hundred square miles of marshland known as the Empire of Reeds. Tempest is strong with the element of water and is therefore eloquent and empathetic, but any who take it lightly (yes, “it” - dragons have no concept of gender outside of mating season) will find themselves facing a raging storm. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34952300/d903f2c8b490cabda6e230db73c424a1e2d8fc3f.jpg If summoned at the territorial boundary with the proper Song of Annunciation, Tempest will be happy to converse and trade with the player occasionally. Enter its territory without permission or waste its time, however, and you might be treated to the full meaning of its name. Treating with neighbors is the most common form of communication with other dragons, but several other...What Exactly is Golden Treasure: The Great Green?May 29, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsBecome a dragon and rule over ancient Earth in this deep role-playing experience from new Detroit-based studio Dreaming Door. What would life be like if we were intelligent, but not social? If we were powerful, but could not survive without finding harmony with nature? If we were covered in only our own scales and feathers, and not synthetic fibers or the skins of dead animals? In Golden Treasure: The Great Green, players will enter the mind and body of a dragon and experience life from the point of view of these fascinating creatures. From infancy to adulthood, you will learn what life would be like if you were born Draak-kin, one of the True Children of Above and Below, greatest of the Great Mother's offspring.
