So even though this is a very big update I will only quickly highlight some of the most important things implemented from last update. Some of The New Features In Latest Beta Patch v0.698: Quests are now fully voice acted. There are 3 new gladiators, 8 new enemies and one more boss. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/eeee98f8c25308f0ea28c42e9675d06a40db7a99.gif Quests have been updated to use those actual enemies (before the Baroness would call you to fight skeletons, but you'd be just fighting good old ghouls that we had in the game.) You can enable simple tutorial explaining basics of the game. After finishing battles, you'll see hints about some gameplay mechanics that will help explain game better. There is a new soundtrack for quest battle (we intent to update it and make it a bit faster, but it's close) Permadeath now has option to refund 30% of the gold that you lost on fallen gladiator (including the value of his items as well) At start, you can choose blue or red color for your team. Here’s what is new in the latest beta update: Instructing Gladiators Who To Attack -Now you are able to instruct your Gladiators on how much they should prioritize each individual enemy. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/31c7ded8c88b291d8446c204ed07bc72b1b574bf.gif -General Gladiator AI instructions are now simplified. They still affect Gladiator behaviour but individual enemy priorities have much more weight over general setting. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/c81dd1c97ee8ec5057ff054d926177aaaab20d7c.jpg -One very important setting can be found for support Gladiators like Priestess. This checkbox is instructing her to help out gladiators that are under attack and in need of her support. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/05ad6d019c1b003d01f1e4ba515e2c1d1a2514dc.jpg It’s turned on by default. But if you plan to execute different tactics and want her to behave purely based on your instructions, you can turn it off. -Here is an example of how gladiators instructions can be used to gain advantage -There is also a feature allowing you to see priority sliders just by rolling over you gladiators. Gladiator Code and AI Improvements -One of the most important things we had to do is change how gladiators send buffs to each other. Till now, one ability attack could only send one buff. For instance Berserker Orc can Kick an enemy and send them Knock Down buff. But the code did not allow us to also send another buff. For instance we could not send Burning buff as well. Preventing us from combining all kinds of fun things. Now this code has been rewritten and we can send any amount of buffs we like in one attack. Meaning that if let’s say Cryomancer had certain items or learned some passive abilities he could: Knock Down an enemy, set them Burning and Freeze them all at the same time. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/6bbd129b567a15a1c1e10c91aabefd6dee73dbb3.gif We don’t have those combinations in the game yet, but new gladiator abilities are coming some time after Early Access, many of which will be passive abilities that will upgrade their current abilities and make them send some of the synergetic buffs. And we’ll also add items that can do that. For now we already have an item called Knockdown Gloves. When given to a melee gladiator, that gladiator will Knockdown enemy with first attack. Smarter Gladiators Aiming to improve gladiators behaviour we have few improved things. Combining with gladiator instructions you can tell Cryomancer or Brigand if they should focus on protecting an ally. Freezing them or throwing a net. In this example you can see that by default Cryomancer will throw freeze to protect the archer as she will benefit the most from being able to get away form melee enemies. But if you turn off the “Ally That is Under Attack” checkbox, Cryomancer will focus on the biggest group of enemies ins...Early Access Release Date! There is so much work to be done till then, but we’re giving it all we have. It’s been almost 1 year since the release of Demo-Prologue and game has grown a lot. Especially because of your suggestions and valuable feedback that made the game so much better! We are planing to keep working full time on the game during Early Access and add all new features we want and lots of new content. What is new in version 0.649? If you prefer video version of the update we have it on youtube, together with some in gameplay examples: Items Around 100 new items There are now about 100 items in the game. You’ll start with raggy and cheap items and as you grow you’ll be able to afford more and more powerful items. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/294484719078896153da9b2699e5ad34feafdc7f.gif Universal Items For Synergetic Strategies This is the new type of items called Universal Items. They do not have a level because they are based on percentages and are useful throughout the whole game. Here is one example: Spiked Chestplate {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/7e842cde2fc12480f187a19a5c4cf0ae3f9ec27b.png This item returns percentage of damage dealt to gladiator. (We had something similar but we moved it to Universal item type now) Most of currently implemented Universal Items are focused on Synergy. Like: Arrowhead of Frost {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/d87c6d6c52017970aec603403654db759c45999d.png Item that make gladiator's projectiles deals 30% higher damage to frozen enemies. So you can combine this with Cryomancers freeze ability for maximum efficiency. Each Universal item has Basic, Rare and Epic version. Each less frequent in shop, more expensive but stronger. Eventually we plan to make a crafting system where you can combine 3 lower tier Universal items to craft one higher tier item. Consumable Item Slots Finally we have a solution for consumable items that will make them useful. Now gladiators have one slot for consumable item so you can still have powerfully equipped gladiator and make them even stronger with consumable. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/f259b40a97cb0adf1bde071a9afe8ad022863957.jpg They are also now a bit cheaper and a bit stronger than before. Item Shop In item shop you can find Regular, Consumable and Universal items. Till now shop used to provide tier of items that are the same as last championship arena you defeated. Now from time to time, there is a chance to get an more advanced item from tier above. There are several very serious issues that can make or break the game. Here are the main ones: There is a lot of waiting in the game where you just watch time pass and wait for opportunity to do something. Optimal way of playing is to just build one small team of gladiators and make them as powerful as possible. We are losing a lot of strategic elements this way. What we intended in first place is that you'd build a larger group of gladiators and use them tactically. Have your top gladiators but also your less effective gladiators that are still useful. Now that you can assign stat points to gladiators as they level up, the stat balancing issues are more obvious than ever before. Game could use more depth. We want that "Easy to start, but hard to master" mentality in the game. But our "Hard to master" part of the formula could use some work. And more smaller things that could make gameplay more engaging. Thanks to all your feedback, as well as ideas from discord, and watching streamers on Twitch like Hillhome and especially form an amazing analysis video from TooTechnical on youtube we put together a list of things we believe will fix all these issues and make the game at least twice as good. After putting all these together and thinking it through here is what we are planing to do: Video is lengthy. But I go through most important things in first 30 minutes. Each battle getting harder than the previous one. Finishing each 3rd battle brings the item reward. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/6998f7bf2cb4d9248ae43610132ed2aaf75fc822.jpg Although at this point we are considering is we should keep this feature or go back to the way it was. Just now before the update we realized some issues this feature might bring. For example, if you keep losing some arena, and you maxed out all ring of death modes there won't be much to do, but wait for championship. But for this update we’ll keep it to hear what you guys think and we'll consider what to do in next update. Better Gladiator AI and Priority Points Panel Each gladiator now has their own priority setting. Before we had some custom settings on some gladiators. Like Worg targeting back-line enemies. But it was limited and flawed. Now with each gladiator having their own setting they should behave a little bit smarter. For example, all gladiators highly prioritize enemies that they can attack immediately. Making Worg stop to fight any enemy he comes across. But now this setting is turned off for him, so you can be sure that he’ll run past the front-line fighters and rush towards the back-line ranged and support enemies. Priority Points Panel You can turn on Priority Points toggle during battle. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/3eece60bdbf47b2ceff44db3925935175ceeb8c0.jpg While it’s turned on, when you click on your gladiator, instead of Unit Info Panel, you will see the units priority points and be able to adjust them. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/aab1a25ce6388721c12121932c161e75c3566ae0.jpg They all already have default setting that work the best in most scenarios as they are. But you can tweak them to make them behave differently in some situations. Again with Worg example. If you don’t want him to rush towards back line, turn on the “Enemies In Reach” toggle and he’ll behave like he did before. Or even lower his priority of ranged and support enemies and he’ll behave like a Berserker and just fight whoever is nearest. Rolling over each of those stats will give you some description of what they do. These setting are saved. So in order to keep track of gladiators that have changed priority points there is a small asterisk mark on units whose points are changed. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/8c2b03831ad618d13bf90f7da23bb507d02c7176.jpg Overall you are easily able to play the game without ever using this tool if you don’t prefer to go to deep into it. We started improving gladiators AI (Still long road ahead but we're restructuring code and they might behave a bit different in some situations already) Ring of Death gold inflation fixed (Now the further you get in the game, more gold it will provide). We're intending on further updating Ring of Death feature in the next patch. So each of the modes would have it's own rank and goal is to climb as high as possible. But this mode will come only after Early Access as it will take a lot of time to create different bosses. We gathered your feedback from the last big closed beta update and from people following the development. Our main goal right now is to make the gameplay loop more fun, engaging, and with more things to play with. Here’s what’s new in v0.600: New Timeline Timelines now consist of a full month with 30 days included, instead of 10. Throughout the month, the timeline will move to the left, displaying info about things that are coming your way. Those include: gladiator/shop updates, shop discounts, current weather and upcoming weather, when you will have to pay your gladiator’s wages and when the championship is going to happen. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36651033/ba858df8286426fae74247b8a8dfee887ad62223.gif Gladiator wages are always at day 30 and are paid automatically (if you don’t have enough gold, the gold will go into negative value, but you will not lose your gladiators). On the bottom right corner of the screen you’ll see text indicating how much gold was spent on gladiator wages. Championships are always held on the first day of each month. The activities you do throughout the month serve to prepare you for the most important part of progressing in the game: winning the championship. There is now a weather system that affects gladiators in combat. But there are arenas like Ancient Temple or Hollow Mountain that always have the same weather buff so you know what to expect there. From time to time a gladiator or item shop discount will appear on the timeline and you’ll be able to see how long the discounts last. After playing this arena, it will become available again in 7 days. In this arena you’ll be able to choose 3 different modes: Blind fight Choose your gladiators without seeing the enemy team. One VS One Choose a single gladiator to fight against an enemy champion. One VS Many Choose a single gladiator to fight against many enemies. We want to make Championships a BIG deal. They will be available only at every 30th day (end of the month). And at one point we will also add a boss fights at the end of each championship and of course a larger reward for wining. Making you feel great once you beat the championship and move forward in the game. But during these 30 days we’ll have quest, and we also want to add another type of arena that can be started at any point you want to. But after finishing it, it would have 7 days cooldown before it can be played again. Theme of the Brainstorming Session The theme of this brainstorming session is this new arena that will be playable at any point with 7 days of cooldown. The current idea that we have for this new arena (Ring of Death - current name) would let you choose 3 types of gameplay whenever you start it (it can be more than 3 if we figure out more fun things) Blind Fight You select your team and lock it down. And only after choosing your gladiators, you will see the enemy team appear. You can then change positions of your gladiators and items they carry. But you can not change the gladiators themselves. 1vs1 Melee Fight Here you can see the gladiator that you are about to fight. But arena has barricades around fighters making it very small, so it’s intended for proving your strongest melee fighting gladiator. Betting Two teams are already in the arena. And you can place a bet on the team you think will win (not using your gladiators at all) We are still thinking about those types of gameplay and want to make them more interesting. Perhaps we can have more than 3 type, and then as you progress in the game, new random modes would be unlocked. But what better way to think about new types of gameplay, than to brainstorm it with you guys :) So in this Twitch Stream what we want to brainstorm with you the new and interesting gameplay types that can be chosen in this arena. Here are the few guidelines: Once we start brainstorming I’ll set the counter and brainstorming will last 45 minutes. (If you still have ideas after the 45 minutes expire, join our Discord Community and tell us about them in #feedback channel) I will not judge any idea. At this stream we only want to generate as much as possible. Write anything you like, no matter if it’s wrong or ridiculous. Bad or out of place ideas can be an excellent pathway for a new more creative and excellent ideas that we wouldn’t arrive at if we didn’t start with wrong idea that lead us up to the right one. Updated Gladiator Guild Now it’s simplified and made into a panel because there was no purpose in previous design where you would place buildings around each other. We got feedback from many people that this was the weakest part of the game. Here is what’s new: Two random gladiator buildings unlock after finishing each arena. There is Revival Temple building that lets you bring units back from death (this is disabled on PermaDeath mode). Gladiator and Inventory slots can be upgraded at bottom of the panel. Upgrading specific gladiator building increased that gladiators inventory space and experience gain. Updated Gladiator Info Panel Panel is visually changed to nicely show all stats and quirks. More stats are now shown like: Range and Type of Attack. Knowing Type of Attack is useful because you can compare it to enemy defences and see what kinds of attacks they can defend from (and vice versa). Timeline There are days, weeks, and years (no days limitations anymore). In upcoming updates this feature will be connected with weather system. Gladiator Wages At middle of the week you'll need to pay gladiators wages. Higher level and better gladiator quirks makes their wages higher. Gladiators Dying and Reviving Now gladiators die in normal more too. But you can revive them. This will cost you a mana crystal and time. Higher level gladiators take more days to get revived. You can upgrade Reviving Temple in guild to reduce the time it takes. (PermaDeath mode still exists but in this mode there is no reviving) Quests and Events During the week quests will appear from different factions asking you for favors. Championships are organized at end of the week and quests serve to help you prepare. Faction Reputations You have reputation with each of the 3 factions. Higher the reputation, higher the quest rewards. But in future updates we’ll add the main quest lines for each of those factions and you’ll need reputation to start those quests and also to continue the next ones. Boss Fights You may encounter two boss fights in quests. Bank Place where you can buy or sell resources. Also where you can loan some coin to bounce back if you find yourself in bad situation. This update is based on that feedback (with some slight exceptions) But first, we should quickly explain how points (like damage points) for Abilities are calculated. Each Ability takes its stats from base stats: Strength, Agility and Intelligence. Let's take for example Knight’s Melee Attack Damage stat. But then when he is too close to the enemy he has to use fists because his Melee Attack with axe has minimum range. It’s our fault for not including this in description. We will do that soon in Beta version of the game (Changing text descriptions in Prologue is problematic now because we have 13 languages so it's very time consuming contacting every translator and we need to focus on new features) -Punch *Damage points increased by 15% Brigand -Throw Spear *Damage points per strength reduced from 5 to 4 Cryomancer Note: The problem with Cryomancers Frost Bolt was that after freezing the enemy, the enemy should not be able to move for next 4 seconds. But then, for example, the friendly Archer, who should be ideal combination with Cryomancer, would shoot that enemy, and the movement speed would reset and enemy would start moving again. This is now fixed. So you can be sure that enemies who are frozen will stay in place. Also Frost Bolt was blockable by any Block ability (Knights or Marauders) but now it’s unavoidable and it will freeze any target it hits. So we won’t buff Cryomancer yet since he already might be too powerful now that he can actually keep enemies in place as it was intended. Damage is 134 and it is formed from STRENGTH and AGILITY stats. Each STRENGTH point is giving 5 damage points (5*20=100), and each AGILITY point is giving 2 damage points. (2*17=34). So we have a total of 100+34=134 damage. Same goes for every other stat. We haven't shown stats for cooldown or execution speed yet because they are very small and weird looking. But we will eventually let you guys turn on an option that show those stats as well. After battle is finished there is no more pop up panel with continue and surrender. Game just continues.
