From Alpha Centauri To Apocalypse: The Design And Inspirations Behind Frozen Synapse 2Apr 20, 2016 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunFrozen Synapse 2 is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting games I’ve ever seen. I’ve spent a long time considering how best to put my thoughts about it into words, having met with Paul Kilduff-Taylor, composer of lovely electronica and co-founder of Mode 7 Games, to see how development was progressing. The simple fact is, it ticks so many boxes in the ‘dream game’ column that extreme enthusiasm is entirely appropriate. Here’s why. … Open World Tactics: Frozen Synapse 2 AnnouncedFeb 10, 2016 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunWhat a time to be alive. Not a moon pie in sight but 2016 is already looking like a fantastic smorgasbord of tactical treats. It’s early February and yet we’ve already seen XCOM 2 and Darkest Dungeon. Now, to make my turn-based existence even more exciting, Mode 7 have announced a full-blown sequel to the supremely entertaining Frozen Synapse . Rather than going with Endzones or Cortexes, as with their sporty spin-off, the team have gone with the self-explanatory Frozen Synapse 2 . Details are thin on the ground but it’ll be “open world” and it’s coming this year. … Controller UpdateMay 14, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsThis is a small update to the game which adds support for game controllers. Currently the game only supports the Xbox 360 controller (and 3rd party compatible controllers) on Windows but on OS X and Linux it supports a wide variety of controllers including the PS3 and PS4 ones. Frozen Cortex may have replaced the glistening muscle with lubricated machines, but the principle is the same. Out on the field, the players use their skills and training to follow the orders of a tactical technician. The initial release lacked the kind of statistical backdrop that a good manager can drown in though, so the news that Mode 7 were adding a fully simulated management mode was marvelous. Now it’s here, in the form of a free update, and it stole my weekend. … Easy Mode and Older League ModesMay 1, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsTwo important things to point out from the Manager Update: - There's now an Easy Mode which lets you see the AI's plans before they are committed. This is a great way to help new players learn the game, so if you see anyone struggling to get started then point them in that direction. - The previous League modes which were available from the Single Player Menu are STILL THERE! They're now available by clicking "Basic Leagues" on the right-hand side of the Single Player menu.Easy Mode and Older League ModesMay 1, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsTwo important things to point out from the Manager Update: - There's now an Easy Mode which lets you see the AI's plans before they are committed. It’s effectively a new league mode which has a much more in-depth simulation to the other modes. Here’s a breakdown: Simulate games with full AI in a convenient top-down view Players have mechanical failures and injuries! My favourite is “serious head disconnection” Lots and lots and lots of stats for individual matches and the entire season Manage your team and jiggle your salary cap Bid against other teams for free agents 90-team college league, college draft and end-of-season megatournament New betting options; bet on the C.O.L.L.E.G.E. league and on the GCL Spend your gambling winnings on visual customisation for your team Boost your salary cap with good performance and try to become a dynasty team We also fixed a load of bugs and put in a couple of little features: the biggest one is allowing you to skip the 3D outcomes - we listened! We really hope you like it - please do let us know about any bugs or problems you find and we’ll do our best to fix them. That’s why Frozen Cortex hasn’t been stealing my evenings, despite the quality of the tense, tactical in-match action. Mode 7 have just announced a major singleplayer update, however, and it sounds like exactly what’s needed to convert the futuresport sim from occasional pleasure to glorious time thief. You can play the beta version right now by opting in. Details and instructions below. … Frozen Cortex Manager update in beta - please helpApr 14, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsHere's a note from our Lead Designer and Programmer Ian... Hey guys. Our big single player update has been released on the "staging2" branch on Steam on Windows - (right click the game, properties, betas, then select staging2). It's pretty big - it has full AI simming of other matches, a salary cap, player bidding, injuries, player stats, AI strategy stettings, a 90 team college league with players leaving for a GCL draft, and more. Please play it and give lots of feedback so we can polish it up nicely for proper release. To get there, choose the middle Single player option (Global Cortex League) and then either choose Manager Easy or Manager from the next menu. (Right now easy only allows you to see AI plans in matches.) Thanks, IanWot I Think: Frozen CortexFeb 24, 2015 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunFrozen Cortex , formerly Frozen Endzone, is a futuristic American Football analogue where surprisingly graceful robots take the place of fleshy, armour-clad men. It’s evocative of Speedball and Blood Bowl, but it’s really Frozen Synapse wrapped in the theme of competitive team sports. The result’s a purely strategic and tactical game, entirely absent RNG, with players taking their turns simultaneously. I’m quite bad at it.Patch for frequent crashes on OS X and Knockout Easy SavesFeb 23, 2015 - Community AnnouncementsWe've put out a patch that will hopefully fix the crashes people have been experiencing on OS X. We've got a couple of major issues that we're addressing right now. The most major is the OSX crash which a lot of you are seeing - we should have a patch for this by tomorrow evening. My apologies that this one got through. Those affected should crash much less/not at all on "low" graphics settings, but that's not really any kind of fix - just letting you know. We'll have this sorted out within 48 hours. I've also seen a couple of single player crashes reported - we will release an update later this week (as early as tuesday if possible but I'll see how easy it is to replicate those reports) solving those issues. After that there are a couple of more minor gameplay annoyances that have been reported - I'll try to get those addressed this week as well. One that has been reported a couple of times is the AI illegally throwing over a high block. I'm almost certain this is how it looks in the Outcome but not what's actually happened - but I will be addressing all reports. When reporting a bug please follow the instructions here: http://forums.mode7games.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10494 Thanks again, Ian"Update from Lead Programmer Ian Hardingham on Bug Issues (including Mac OSX crashes)Feb 22, 2015 - Community Announcements"Hey guys - thanks for buying and playing Frozen Cortex.
