Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. With the 2019-20 NHL season now resuming, we have a surprise bonus update for FHM6. Normally, we wouldn't be releasing an update this late in the year, but this season has been far from normal. And with the next season starting much later this year, we're going to be releasing FHM7 later than we typically do, so this should help tide everyone over until that time comes. Development of FHM7 is progressing nicely; we just hit a major development milestone this morning. However, among other things, the entire match engine is being rebuilt from the ground up, so a little extra development and testing time is a useful thing for us to have right now. There will be more FHM7 information coming soon, once we have things in a state where we can show screenshots. Later today, we'll also be re-releasing the 2019-20 season continuation save file we created earlier, with updated rosters and the 24-team playoff, so you can simulate the rest of this season with the real data and format (although the playoffs won't be in August.) There are three new additions in the update: the 24-team 2020 NHL playoff system has been added as a selectable option in the league edit and custom setup screens, the new Seattle Kraken jerseys and logo are included, and we've added an option to let the AI handle uniform number assignment without user intervention. We've also included a variety of bug fixes. We had to very careful about what changes we made, since dealing with unforeseen complications isn't something we have much time for right now, but did manage to address a number of problems. Changes: -the NHL's 2020 24-team playoff system has been added to the playoff options in League Edit and Custom Setups (it's listed as "NHL 2020 (12 team per Conf)", at the bottom of the list) -official logo and uniform graphics for the Seattle Kraken have been added (thanks to Hockey13Playa for letting us use his uniform and helmet files) - you will still need to expand the league normally, but if you choose Seattle Kraken as a name, you'll get the real graphics for them -added an option (in Manager options, "Manager Jersey Numbers") to let the AI handle jersey number assignment for your team. If you activate this after the start of the game, you may see one or two final manual number assignment requests if you have some pending. Additionally, you may need to deal with off-season number change requests from your current players on your own. -fixed a crash when using AI Setup Organization on teams other than the user's that are close enough to the cap to trigger the "AI may trade players" warning message -added a failsafe to prevent sharp declines in team staff budgets over time. If this is already happening in your game, you should see a significant jump in your staff ...Summer Sale! FHM 6 is 75% off - just $9.99!!!Jun 25, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsIt's Summer Sale time! This hotfix is primarily to correct some issues with historical player imports that were leading to crashes and possibly save corruption. Additionally, we included a couple of other things that could be done without risk of causing new problems. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. Changes: -fixes stability problems that were appearing after adding several players via historical import -fixed issues with historical player import that led to players getting incorrect nationalities and birthplaces -fixed crash when changing teams while looking at the profile of a retired player -the "NMC's Must Be Protected" option in the Expansion Draft setup will now work properly, i.e. it'll force NMC players onto protected listsFHM6 Hotfix, Version 6.8.78, Now AvailableApr 1, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsA new hotfix update for Franchise Hockey Manager 6, version 6.8.78, has just been released. This hotfix corrects a number of issues with 6.7.74 that we didn't want to leave uncorrected in the final version of FHM6. Barring the discovery of a critical problem in this version, this will be the last update for the game. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. Changes: -the later Central Scouting updates now work properly again -added a warning preventing the game from continuing (and probably crashing) if user's team is about to play a game while there are players listed in the lines who aren't dressed -fixed "not enough skaters" warning in leagues that allow 20+ skaters but don't require 4 defensive pairs -made it impossible to drag-and-drop scratched players onto a line from the dressed list -fixed potential lockup/crash when rapidly scrolling through players while viewing the ratings tab of the player screen -team rosters for 2019-20 teams in Exhibition Games now use the current rosters instead of the season-start ones -several dozen South African players will no longer generate every time a standard game is reloaded. This will not remove any existing players created by that bug, but most of those should rapidly retire and disappear over the next few years of the game -players now have their draft eligibility re-evaluated after edits are made, so edits that should them ineligible (e.g. increasing age) will now properly prevent them from being drafted -the "Starts Today" message about the Olympics no longer lists two Group B's in the text, instead of Group B and Group C -the AVCO Cup Playoffs (WHA) now re-seeds properly after every round -the "Remove team" option on the league structure editor now has a yes/no confirmation dialogue -on the rules screen, the Belarusian Extraleague Group A no longer has Playdowns marked "yes" -if league evolution is disabled in a game where the WHA is active, the WHA draft logs between 79-80 and the current season will no longer be unselectable -retired players are now incluided in the player_master.csv file, and a column named "retired" has been added at the end to indicate their status (1 = retired) -fixed error in calculating average league contract standard after caps is edited, had been causing multiple issues with signing foreign players and players signing for excessively low amounts -list of national teams available for takeover at the start of the game will now scroll to the bottom properly, regardless of game resolution -most of the recent history on the League-History-Awards screen will no longer disappear after importing some historical players -trading deadline for the first Swedish Hockey League season is now January 31, 2020, instead of a year later -fixed schedule length error in 1992-93 and 1993-94 that was forcing the NHL schedule to regenerate in those seasons -removed minimum...FHM Update 6.7.74 Now AvailableMar 10, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThe sixth and final post-release update for FHM6, version 6.7.74, has just been released. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. This is slightly later than anticipated, owing to a few last-minute issues we wanted to clean up, but it's now ready to go. The previous hotfix included some of the things that were originally planned for this update, so there's not much in the way of new features this time, just the post-trading-deadline roster update and a general cleanup of some lingering issues and a few newly-discovered ones. The database update is as of March 1 and covers all the playable leagues and most of the significant nonplayable ones. Yes, David Ayres is in. This will be the final update for FHM6, barring any hotfixes needed if we discover serious problems with this version. This has been a very successful release for us, and we thank everyone who's purchased the game and offered help, feedback and suggestions for improving the game. We'll now be moving on to development of FHM7; we have some big things planned for the next version, and we look forward to sharing them with you during the offseason. Gameplay Changes -the AI should no longer allow a lot of high-potential goalie prospects to become UFA's when their first contract expires -the UK Challenge Cup now allows the user to play out games normally when his team is involved instead of only simming them -adjusted the Euro Hockey Tour tournament dates to avoid conflict with some European league schedules, and the Beijer Hockey Games will now skip Olympic years to avoid a conflict there -the Chance Liga Pre-Playoff winners should now be matched to the correct first-round playoff opponent -adjusted the season-split format for the EBEL to match the new structure for this year - the top 5 teams after 40 games go to the top group (Platzierungsrunde) and the bottom 6 to the lower one (Qualifikationsrunde) instead of 6 to the top and 5 to the bottom -the Suomi-Sarja teams in the upper group after the 30-game split (Ylempi Jatkosarja) no longer play 7 games too many -the first round of the VHL playoffs is now best-of-7 -the series between the top 2 teams in the Allsvenskan to determine which one goes to the SHL Relegation tournament directly and which one has to go to the Pre-Relegation tournament is now best-of-5 -adjusted player movement of free agents to nonplayable teams to restrict the movement of NHL-caliber players to lower-level leagues -added the real expansion draft exemptions to historical so these teams don't have to protect players: in the 1992 NHL expansion draft, San Jose; in 1999, Nashville; and in 2000, Atlanta and Nashville -minor league teams in historical will never sign players, preventing the NHL/WHA teams from ever signing those players -fixed issue that was preventing the AI in historical games from giving qualifying offers to most RFA's in the first ...Announcing Out of the Park Baseball 21!Feb 21, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsOut of the Park Baseball 21 - the 21st version of the award-winning sports strategy franchise - delivers the most new features and improvements in series history! Check it out today!FHM6 Hotfix, Version 6.6.70, Now AvaialbleFeb 19, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsA new hotfix update for Franchise Hockey Manager 6, version 6.6.70, has just been released. This hotfix is primarily to correct a problem with 6.6.68 that made games in leagues with 19-skater rosters impossible to continue, another bug that could break all the team budgets in custom games with historical finances activated, and a couple of other things we didn't want to leave unfixed for several weeks. However, unlike a typical hotfix, the problems took a while to become evident, and we'd already made a bunch of other fixes, changes, and additions by that point. So, this is really somewhere between a hotfix and a full update. One new feature we'd been planning to include in the final update in March, the ability to start a new standard game in control of a national team, is included. But it hasn't been tested extensively, so be aware that it's possible we may run into some unanticipated issues with it that'll get fixed in the March update. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. Changes -fixed the "not enough skaters" warning preventing the user from playing games in leagues that use 19-skater rosters -starting a custom game with historical finances turned on no longer sets all the team budgets to $0 -added ability to start as a national team GM in a standard game -traded salary-retained players should now show their correct cap hit/salary for the new team, instead of showing the league minimum salary value in some situations -preseason tryout offers should now work properly for the user's team again -the salary obligations tab now counts players on two-way contracts at their lower salary if they're not on the active roster or injured list (i.e., are on loan or in the minors) - so it will match the Player Payroll amount on the team finances screen; however, note that it'll only be an exact match on July 1 - as the season progresses and players move on and off the roster and up and down from the farm, the Player Payroll number will reflect the total amount the team has spent to date plus the amount the team would theoretically spend with its current roster for the remainder of the season (you can see this calculation in the Budget Information box of the Team Finances screen) -the Continue button should now always open the draft window when a draft needs to be completed - this hadn't been happening consistently with certain leagues and drafts -fixed potential crash caused by missing player contract data -while watching a game, if you open the boxscore while game is underway and click on the name of one of the goalscorers, it now opens the correct profile -sorting by fitness on the lineup screen's dressed list will now sort in the correct order -when the Winnipeg 1974 challenge is successful, the user should now actually get the achievement, in addition to the in-game notification that he succeeded -fixed occasional failure of p...FHM6 Update #5, Version 6.6.68, Now AvailableFeb 6, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThe fifth post-release update for FHM6, version 6.6.68, has just been released. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. After adding some larger fixtures in the last two updates, we've spent more time on this one on smaller additions and fixes, and there are a lot of them; details are below. That's not to say we've completely cleared out our bug/request/wish lists, but they're probably in better shape now than they've ever been in the history of the series, so we should have the game in a nice, stable place for you as we wind up work on 6. There will be one more major update after this one (and possibly some hotfixes if serious issues are found in either); we expect to release that sometime after the NHL trading deadline (February 24). It'll likely be out a little later after the deadline than in previous years, since we're already relatively close to that date and we want to leave enough time for proper testing and database review. After that, we'll still be active on the forums and elsewhere, but most of the development effort will begin to shift over to FHM 7 unless something critically wrong is discovered with 6. Playable team rosters for the "Current" quickstart have been updated as of (approximately) February 2 and some adjustments have also been made to nonplayable leagues. The scope of the database updates in the final update will be larger and should cover most, if not all, of the significant nonplayable leagues. Gameplay Changes -added the option to retain salary in trades - the trading interface now has an option (in leagues with a salary cap) to allow a team to absorb, in 5% increments, up to 50% of the player's salary after the trade. after the trade is executed, the retained salary is adding to the former team's Cap Hit Penalties and removed from the player's salary and cap hit (using the Cap Hit Penalties this way is a necessary compromise at the moment since we don't want to make a signficant data structure change in an update; in FHM7 we'll likely separate cap penalties and retained salary into two categories) a team can only have Cap Hit Penalties up to 15% of the overall salary cap; the retention option may be lowered (or removed) if a team is close to (or over) this amount already the amount of retained salary cannot lower the player's overall cap hit to an amount below the minimum salary (this isn't actually an NHL rule, but if we don't do this it would break the trade AI by creating players with contracts below the threshold it can evaluate properly) the AI will change its evaluation of players with retained salary to reflect their increased/decreased value to it, but it will not make retained salary offers itself at the moment (that's going to require some significant trade AI rewriting for it to use retained salary appropriately) -the Belarusian league will now play the second half of its schedule inst...FHM 6 is 50% off - just $19.99 - during the Honda NHL All-Star Game Sale!Jan 24, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsTo celebrate the Honda NHL All-Star Game, we're delighted to offer Franchise Hockey Manager 6 for 50% off - just $19.99! FHM6 Update #4, Version 6.5.63, Now Available!Dec 18, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThe fourth post-release update for FHM6, version 6.5.63, has just been released. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. Since we've turned this update around relatively quickly while also adding some significant new features, this is a little lighter on the bug fix list than normal, although that's also a product of the list being comparatively shorter than it usually is at this point in the year. But the next update will probably swing a little more back towards cleaning up those issues as opposed to introducing new ones like we've done this time. That said, this time we have some early Christmas presents in the form of three significant new features: 1. We've added the ability to import historical players to existing games via a similar method to the player creation button: go to the league edit screen with Commissioner Mode turned on and you'll see an "Import a historical player" button just below the Create Player one (if you're just turning it on now, you'll need to leave and return to that screen for it to update.) Clicking it allows you to type in a player name, and once you've found the intended player on the list of historical players, to choose which season's version of him you want to import. He'll appear as he would in a historical game created in that season. This will work with any mode; you can add 1983 Wayne Gretzky to a modern game, put 2018 Connor McDavid into a custom game or the 1917 NHL, etc. This should make life much easier for those of you who want to do things like create an all-time all-star league. A couple of notes, though: first, there are a few players in the historical database that I created for reasons other than in-game use, e.g. various 19th century players to get a Hall of Fame with all the real members. Not all of them have a proper ratings set, so you may get some strange players if you try to import them. I'll try to get that stuff cleaned up soon so everybody you can find is functional, but for now if you import somebody who wasn't an NHL/WHA/PCHA player (those all should be fine), you should check his ratings to see if he's looking like you expect. And second, really extreme mismatches in talent (dropping Wayne Gretzky in his prime into the UK's NIHL, for example) tend to create mismatches on the player-on-player level that are a little beyond what the scope of the game engine can handle best, so those players will not be quite as effective as you may expect (not that they won't dominate; they will, it just may not turn a bad team into an undefeatable one as the player gets 10+ goals a game on his own.) 2. The UK Challenge Cup has been added as a tournament. It was originally scheduled to be included back in the release version but had to be delayed due to a format change that required quite a bit of new coding. It's viewable via the EIHL league menu (similar to how the Spengler Cup/M...FHM6 Update #3, Version 6.4.59, Now AvailableNov 28, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThe third post-release update for FHM6, version 6.4.59, has just been released. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. As mentioned in the last update, we're a little ahead of the game right now on the content we were planning to add via updates. The big addition in this update, user-configurable Expansion Drafts, was originally planned for the pre-Christmas update, but it was finished early, so here it is. We'll probably still refine it a bit in that update, tentatively planned the week before Christmas, but getting it done ahead of schedule should let us fit a few more new things into that one. The "autoplay screen" standings option that many people requested also made it in to this update, as did some revisions to the training screen. On the downside, there's unfortunately still nothing new to report regarding the issue with drag-and-drop and photo import features that we had to disable on the Fastspring version, and the intermittent issue that's occasionally corrupting the facegen images so only the lower quarter of them are visible. We're continuing to try to find solutions for these and hope we'll have something for you soon. Current Rosters: The current rosters (as of November 25) are now available as a starting option: "Current 2019-20", which is now the default for new standard games (but you can still choose the opening night option instead.) We'll be continuing to update the rosters through the NHL trading deadline, so most, if not all, of the updates from this point forward will have a new database with the current rosters. Note that if you have jersey, logo, etc. mods currently set up in the OpeningDay.quick folder, you'll need to move them over to the same spot in the Current.quick folder for them to work in games started with that database. Expansion Draft Configuration: New in this update is a major addition to the expansion draft process: the ability to configure the details of expansion drafts via a new tab in the league edit screen, so you can have control over exactly how these drafts are run, instead of being stuck with just the default rules. The configurable fields for the expansion draft setup are: Name of Draft (default is "(Leaguename) Expansion (Season Start Year)") Number of Rounds (allowed range 1-99, this is the total number of rounds the draft ruins) Draft Date: (allows user to select the month/day the draft is held on, default is July 2 - year is always the season start year and can't be changed) Maximum Goalies Protected Per Team (allowed range 1-5, default 1, the number of draft-eligible goalies each established team can protect) Maximum Defencemen Protected Per Team (allowed range 0-20, default 3, the number of draft-eligible defencemen each established team can protect) Maximum Forwards Protected Per Team (allowed range 0-30, default 7, the number of draft-eligible forwards each establishe...FHM6 Update #2, Version 6.3.53, Now AvailableNov 1, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThe second post-release update for FHM6, version 6.3.53, has just been released. Your existing savegames will be compatible with the updated game, but some of the update's fixes may not retroactively correct certain problems in existing saves. As we did last year, now that we've dealt with the most serious bugs and the smaller ones that were simplest to fix, we'll now take a slightly longer amount of time, probably a month or so, before the next update (barring any major issues that need a hotfix before then.) That'll give us a little more time to work on some things that need a longer timeframe for coding and testing. Originally, we'd planned the first "content" update that would add some significant new features to be the pre-Christmas one, but given the state of the game at the moment we think we may be able to move a few smaller things we'd planned for that into the late November update instead. One (new colour coding for the roster screen) actually made it into this one. Regarding the issue with drag-and-drop and photo import features we've had to disable on the Fastspring version: as noted previously, we have an idea where the problems are occurring. However, our attempts at getting some help from the third-party vendor whose software we believe to be the source of the issues have not, unfortunately, been productive yet. We're going to continue to press them for some kind of solution; however, since we're going to have a little more time before the next update, we'll be able to try some alternative solutions from our side as well. The database has had many fixes and revisions, but the rosters are not updated with post-opening night moves yet. The first "Current Roster" quickstart will likely come in the next update. Changes: Gameplay: -adjusted schedule generator to better balance the schedule when adding a single expansion team to a league -faceoffs will now be located properly when a penalty that results in a power play occurs (i.e. in the defensive zone) -added option to disable suspensions (File-Setup/Options-Game Settings-Other Options) -toned down the skill levels of some of the better historical teams in the early-mid 80's -fixed problem that was causing some team budgets, particularly in Europe, to get large adjustments upwards unnecessarily -fixed issue with some players not being marked properly as requiring NHL entry-level contracts -the Tipsport Extraliga preplayoffs no longer take a week to start after the end of the regular season (causing issues later in the playoffs where the finals overlap with the World Championships) -fixed problem with some players who should be covered by the NHL-CHL agreement not getting the option to be returned to junior -when an empty-net goal is scored in the in-game view, the goal is no longer shown as being scored on the player who assisted on it -preseason lineups for the AI will now use tryout players much more frequently -teams added to historical games via the structure editor's Add Team opti...
