Expeditions: Rome

About the next Expeditions title...May 20, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsLet’s catch you up. With the notable exception of a peculiar and mysterious patch for Expeditions: Rome that was released in November of 2024, it’s been radio silence from us for roughly 2 years. Though speculation ran wild about the origin of the patch, no official explanation was ever given. We are finally ready to reveal that Campfire Cabal is still alive. Though we did have to say goodbye to many of our colleagues, the studio survived and a compact team continued the project we had started in 2022. At the end of March of 2025, we received the green light to scale up slightly and transition into full production. If you follow the insider news, you are aware that it’s been a rough couple of years in the game industry. Investment dried up, studios shut down, countless developers lost their jobs, and games were cancelled left and right. We are extremely grateful that there were people within the Group who fought to keep us alive through the turmoil, and that we can now emerge on the other side with renewed vigour. And as for this game we’ve been working on? If you’ve guessed that we’re making the next instalment in the Expeditions series, you guessed 100% correct. Campfire Cabal was established as stewards of the Expeditions series of historical RPGs. And yes, it was we who patched Expeditions: Rome back in November 2024. We’re not yet ready to reveal more details of this next instalment, but we can confirm that just like every Expeditions game, it’s set in a new period of our history and in a new part of the world for the series. And just like every Expeditions game, this one will be another step up in quality from its predecessor. We can’t wait to reveal more about the game itself and show you what we’ve been working on. In the meantime, we hope you’ll have fun sharing your ideas and guesses in the Steam forums or on our Discord. We’ll don our most convincing poker faces. The Campfire Cabal Team Expeditions Rome 1.6 Patch NotesNov 20, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsGameplay improvements: No unique items drop randomly anymore. The handful of unique items that formerly did so are now spread across Act 1 and the first half of Act 2. Additionally, some predetermined Linen drops have been added as well to increase the availability of that resource. Changed the flow of Pacification missions so you no longer have to run your world map avatar to a level entrance point: When you retrieve a Pacification mission, you now get to assign the Companion and Praetorians directly from the conversation with the Primus, which will start a timeline event. You can then proceed as normal, and when the timeline event triggers, the selected party will enter the pacification level. New Game Option: Disable Pacifications. This option disables turn-based pacification missions (except the first tutorial pacification), forcing all pacifications to be of the Legion mission type. New Game Option: Auto Praetorian Management. This option disables the need to manually equip gear and select skills on non-companion praetorians and automatically handles this for the player. You will still need to manage your own character and main companions. Adjusted Rural Village pacification “Burn Lumber” to only require you to burn 9 of the 12 stacks of lumber. Adjusted the Rural Village pacification “Save Legionarii” to be slightly easier. Adjust the Forest Caravan pacification “Protect Official” to be slightly easier. Customisation unlocks: All themes, emblems, and trophies from Twitch drop campaigns are now available by default for everyone. Added one additional colour theme unlock for players who also own Expeditions: Viking. Added one additional colour theme unlock for players who also own Expeditions: Conquistador. Added one new colour theme unlock to each of the two primary Act 4 paths. Added the THQN theme and emblem as a default unlock. Fixes: Fixed a bug that could cause the game to freeze after starting Act 4 on the Die is Cast path (previously, this freeze could be resolved by pressing escape twice and waiting 10 seconds). Fixed a mistake that caused the unique item Spectacle to drop as only a schematic instead of the actual item. This fix is retroactive: When loading an existing save, if you have the schematic, you will now receive the actual item. Changed the piercing damage affix of Tutankhamon’s Dagger from a % modifier (that didn’t do anything on this weapon) to a corresponding flat addition modifier. Note: in existing save-games you will need to dismantle and recraft the weapon for this to take effect. Fixed a bug that caused the Gracing Shot skill to receive its accuracy penalty twice. Fixed a bug where a specific sequence could cause you to get stuck in the Golden Wolf quest during the step where you must talk to Lunja. Existing saves stuck in this state should also now resolve themselves upon re-loading in the new version. Fixed an issue where in most cases you were unable to craft Tier 2 and 3 version of the Cocles unique armour. Fixed...Still Thinking About the Roman Empire? The turn-based RPG game's first expansion, Death or Glory, is out now, and it adds a new gladiator character class. There's also a bunch of gladiator-type stuff to do, such as fighting lions and tigers and possibly dying for the entertainment of bloodthirsty crowds. In addition to the new gladiator character class, Death or Glory adds a new arena to each region of the campaign map. Each of those features its own unique questline, in which you'll have to battle new characters in competitions for audience approval. You can play these as part of the vanilla campaign, or you can hop straight into gladiator mode and start fighting it out. The gladiator class has three subclasses. There's the Murmillo, a heavily armed variant who's tough as nails; the Provocator, who can manipulate opponents' morale; and there's the Retiarius, a high-mobility class whose greatest weapon is their sharp wits. Between the three, there are a total of 24 new class skills, and you can opt to play as a gladiator yourself, have one of your companions take on the role, or recruit new gladiators into your party. The system has been streamlined to rely fully on pitting your centurions’ command specialisations against those of the enemy army to unlock particular effects that can turn the tide of battle. All stratagems have been redesigned to add or remove specialisation points, and several balance changes have also been made to the system. Most importantly, manpower attrition is now based fully on the size of the opposing army. The tutorials surrounding legion battles and centurion recruitment have been updated to account for the changes, and expanded to explain the system in more detail. Along with the built-in UI elements that provide an overview of how elements of the system work, we hope that you will find this system to be more straight-forward and more engaging than the previous design. Have fun! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40416622/dd2a1bc0df33e33225eef9c33392906b8ddaed67.jpgPatch 1.3Mar 29, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsBug Fixes: ● Added some additional checks to ensure the Legion Battle crowd music stops after the battle ends. ● Fixed an issue where un-assigning the Player Character from the Hospital assignment early could cause issues. ● Fixed an issue on the Rubicon involving letting the intro cutscene player and then loading the auto-save can get stuck on a black loading screen. ● Fixed an issue where it’s possible to get the briefing for Pacifications even though the quest is not active under certain circumstances. ● Fixed an issue where the Arcana Imperii achievement would not unlock with some dialog branches. Updates: ● Made it possible to access the Outpost Manager features from the world map so long as you are “near” a controlled Outpost: Water will automatically be replenished when within range No food or water will be consumed when within range of the outpost Praetorians that are done with assignments will be set back to Ready State Can assign Praetorians to tasks Can pick up crafted items ● Added a few new tutorials for the new features. ● Changed uncompleted Pacification Quests to fail after Sieges are completed instead of when the Siege quest is started. Balance Changes: ● Adjusted the balance of multiple Legion Missions. Mostly reduced some of the reward ranges and reduced slaves cost on a Pacification Legion Mission variation. Notably reduced the Food rewards from Hunting Grounds. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40416622/4752e28ad654ae06f4aaa33e1a34c8c11c4e293d.jpgDevDiary 19 - Legion Battle Update and Gamepad SupportMar 14, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsAve! After a small break, we have another DevDiary for you with an update on two of the major things we’ve been working on for Expeditions: Rome. Since our last update, we’ve made excellent progress on the new legion battle system, and we’re pleased to report that it’s shaping up to be a lot more interesting than the old minigame. At the same time, we’ve been working to improve our gamepad support to get rid of the cursor emulation in most parts of the game, to make it a better experience to play Rome from the comfort of your couch. Find out more Here {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40416622/4752e28ad654ae06f4aaa33e1a34c8c11c4e293d.jpg1.2.1Feb 17, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsBug Fixes ● Fixed an issue on the Greece - Mountain Village, Africa - Tiny Desert Camp, and Gaul - Coastal Village Pacifications that could cause the player to get stuck on the map under certain conditions. ● Fixed an issue where characters who were treating an injury in the Triage UI would still be treating injuries on characters who were fully healed by the Temple of Asclepius travel event or when transitioning between the Rome portions of the game. The fix should also resolve any instances of this happening in current save files. ● Fixed a bug where the barracks recruits screen would sometimes recruit the wrong character entirely. ● Fixed an issue on the Quarry instance where players could get stuck after the encounter if they were in a certain spot of the map when the encounter was over. ● Fixed an issue with the catapults in the Chalkedon Siege not being able to be destroyed by fire. ● Fixed an issue with the reverb audio effect not functioning correctly. ● More fixes for the Dangerous Dunes travel event not functioning correctly under certain situations. ● Fixed an issue on the insane difficulty where certain enemies were applying Bleeding or Weakened even when their attacks miss. Updates ● Updated pacification quests so that any incomplete pacification quests will fail when transitioning to a new region (this will not retroactively update save files that have already moved to a new region). ● Adjusted the volume of the combat emotes to be a little more audible. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40416622/53b31a5518fdd26ec00c26f9cf57a91c7480c52e.pngThe "little" Patch - V1.2.0Feb 9, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsBug Fixes - Continued stabilization updates to address reported game crashes. - Fixed an issue where a legion task would not be synced with a re-calculated navigation path, causing it to fail arbitrarily. - Fixed incorrect team setup of two different tanneries that was preventing the player from capturing them under some circumstances. These tanneries are now correctly part of the Egypt team instead of the Nasamonian team. - Fixed an issue whereby non-companion praetorians could get dialogue during or immediately after fights where they had been killed, and might possibly even show up with dialogue in a few specific world map events. - Fixed an issue where the status effect from the Gracing Shot skill was removed after the first encounter. - Changed the upgraded version of Gracing Shot so it now reduces damage by 25% but shreds Armour. - Fixed an issue where praetorians who were renamed would revert back to their default names when they were dismissed during the Rome intermissions. - Fixed an issue where characters with randomized names would get names. - Fixed an edge case where the end of an encounter in Campus Martius triggered a one-liner dialogue and an autosave at the same time, which would create a broken save. - Fixed an issue in the Pharaoh fight where the Iron Man autosave after combat would load into an incorrect state. Now the autosave is delayed until after the post-combat dialogue so it will work correctly. - Fixed an issue where the side quest “A Tighter Ship” would not fail if not completed before the end of the Greece campaign. - Fixed some gaps in the roofs of the Family Villa. - Fixed a window decal in the Rome Streets still displaying when the building fades away due to camera collision. - Fixed an issue with loot boxes being able to be opened from a very long distance away in the Mytilene Harbor level. - Fixed an issue in the Gladiator School where chairs had the white interactable highlight when they were not interactable. - Fixed a ragdoll physics issue with Caeso in the Senate encounter during the quest “The Die is Cast”. - Fixed some characters being too close to each other in the Senate so that they could overlap each other. Spread them apart a bit more. - Changed some cover in the Beach Village level from “High” cover to “Low” cover which fits the level geometry better. - Also fixed an issue in the Beach Village where players could fall through a hole. - Fixed that one of the level transition horses in the Beach Village only showed up at night. - Fixed not being able to loot a chest in Beach Village. - Fixed not being able to loot a chest in Gaul Coastal Village. - Fixed a stack of cargo that could not be looted in the Your Money or Your Life random encounter level. - Fixed that the names of Mysia and Troas were swapped around in the item description of the contract between Mithridates and Theophilus. - Fixed a hex in the Quarry in Africa where characters could get stuck. - Also fixed an issue in the Quarry where a barr...DevDiary 18 - Legion Battle ImprovementsFeb 8, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsLatest dev diary is now live and can be found Here We've been listening to everyone's feedback on Legion Battles and are looking to make some big changes. If you lose the encounter, all injuries will be cleared when you wake up later. 2.
