I vividly remember turning into a tight valley in search of resources, only to be set upon by some terrifying Lovecraftian-inspired leviathan that stalked my little tugboat from below. Paranoia began to set in, the once idyllic ocean warping and twisting, eyeballs swimming before my vision, taunting me. I let out a terrified squeak, not only waking up my snoring dad, but also attracting the attention of the flight attendant, who offered me a bag to breathe into. I'm still not sure whether it's funny in hindsight, or absolutely mortifying. Read the rest of the story... This update addresses what should hopefully be the last round of bugs for The Iron Rig. Patch Notes: Fixes Fixed an issue where the Aurous Anchor could be duplicated. Players who already have excess Aurous Anchors can get rid of them by doing the following: Deploying them all at sea (via Inventory > Cast Overboard). Save and Quit the game. When loading, only 1 will be preserved, which you can collect. Fixed an issue where 16:10 aspect ratios were considered unsupported. Fixed an issue where a handful of ooze spots in Twisted Strand and Stellar Basin could not be cleared under certain conditions. Fixed an issue where SteamDeck detection was not working in certain conditions. Thank you for your continued support! No Man’s Sky's Aquarius update brings a touch of Dredge to the cosmos by letting you become an interstellar fisherpersonSep 4, 2024 - VG247If you enjoy standing by virtual bodies of water and praying that you've picked the right worm to tempt what dwells within to take a little nibble, the latest update for No Man's Sky is definitely for you. Dubbed Aquarius, it arrives today, September 4, and is all about reeling in alien fish via a bunch of new mechanics. Following on from the pretty popular Worlds Update part one - which revamped planet biomes with stuff like fresh weather effects and more immersive water - Hello Games has been inspired by a bit of Reddit fan art to give folks the chance to embrace their inner angler. As outlined in the patch notes and the trailer below, Aquarius adds fishing to the game via new systems that'll let players "explore the universe to find their perfect waterside spot, hopping with fish - sit and relax alone with their thoughts, or with fellow Travelers looking out over alien vistas waiting for a bite." This update fixes a handful of bugs and improves a few areas that have been catching players out since our release of The Iron Rig the other week. Patch Notes: Adjustments Exotic bait no longer requires the correct rod to be equipped in order for it to be placed. You'll still need the correct rod to catch whatever shows up though! The Foreman will make it clearer that you can talk to him if you run out of ooze patches to siphon up. Increased the size of the ooze markers on the map. Added a map marker for the rig's location before you visit it. Added 1-2 nautiloids to each of their spawn locations. Fixes Fixed an item duplication bug. The portal from the Aurous Anchor now visually layers better when placed on ooze. The Leviathan will no longer be able to consume players as they're in the process of docking at the rig. Fixed an issue where one patch of ooze couldn't be fully cleared in Twisted Strand under certain conditions. Fixed an issue where players could mark bait spots on their map, causing a number of flow-on issues with the map and spyglass. A handful of small text fixes. Additionally, the whole team is incredibly grateful for your support. The reception to The Iron Rig has exceeded our expectations, and we're so happy you've enjoyed diving back into the world of DREDGE. They're dotted across the north of Scotland, looming eerily in the distance, often drenched in sea mist and framed by gray skies. Most recently, we saw Still Wakes the Deep transform one of our rigs into a twisted, nightmare-infested hellhole, and Dredge is looking to follow in its footsteps. The...Dredge: The Iron Rig review: A solid reason to reel yourself back into spooky fishingAug 14, 2024 - VG247Dredge, as both me and at least two of my coworkers have written before, is good fun. Its latest bit of DLC, The Iron Rig, is buy and large more of that same kind of fun, but I can’t help but feel that, at least from a narrative perspective, it had the potential to offer a bit more than it does. As you’ve probably gleaned from the name, the central premise of the Iron Rig is that an oil rig has popped up to the north of the game’s established islands. So, as you did with the ice-filled Pale Reach, it’s your job to head to this new landmark and see if it has a need for the finest aquatic life and abominations in the land. When you arrive, you’ll learn from the rig’s foreman that, as is the tradition, something mysterious is afoot. The ships dispatched by the Ironhaven corporation which owns the rig to bring the supplies its workers need to get it properly set up and drilling have sunk, and no one has the foggiest why. Thus begins one of the two central gameplay loops of the DLC - you head out, dredge up some crates belonging to the corporation, and bring them back to the rig to, on this occasion, unlock it as a home base. You would think that with a concept like "fishing game but there's Eldritch horrors" that it might not have made too many waves (pun intended), but you'd be wrong, as Dredge managed to sell one million copies only six months after it launched. And now, that's resulted in a live-action film adaptation coming as a partnership between developer Black Salt Games and production company Story Kitchen. You might not have heard of Story Kitchen, but you certainly will have heard of some of the films its co-founder Dmitri Johnson has been involved in. Johnson served as a co-producer on both of the Sonic the Hedgehog films, as well as the upcoming third one. Dredge is just the latest video game adaptation added to Story Kitchen's slate, too, as it's also working on adaptations of We Happy Few, Tomb Raider, Disco Elysium, It Takes Two, Life is Strange, and even more than that.
